Alright, I suppose it's about time for me to write this review. I've been going to Marlow's Fitness…read moresince January 20th. I know that exact date because that was the date I read the Yelp reviews and texted a couple of friends and held my breath and jumped in this "Marlow's Movement" thing whole hog. It was... painful. It many ways. Physically of course with the weight lifting and whatnot. But also emotionally. It's bizarrely difficult to go from a generally sedentary lifestyle to something that requires five days a week and twice on Saturdays. Not. Joking. It's like slipping into someone else's life. It's not bad -- just uncomfortable. His program uses a couple of things to get you to show up and keep going. 1. Accountability: You're accountable to your team and to the program. Your participation, steps, team, weight goals, etc are all being tracked through your fitbit and myfitnesspal. 2. A reward system: If your team or you "win" the program, then you go on an all expenses paid trip to Cancun. You stay at an all-inclusive resort with the other winners. 3. Community: Since all classes are small (14 peopleish) you get to know everyone else in the movement. You become this kind of "we're all in this together" family. 4. Uncomplicated Workouts: 30 minutes of whatever cardio you prefer and 30 minutes of 45 second intervals of weights/body weight exercises. Also you'll participate in some external activities - 5Ks, Saturday morning walks, a scavenger hunt. I lost weight and continue to go to class, building my muscle, getting in better shape and it's legitimately the first time I've been able to keep it off and continue to workout. I mean, I love the ease of crash diets but just feels better.

Shoal Creek was not far from my place, so i booked an appointment with Cory to learn about it. I signed up, and started my commitment to working out 4-5 days a week, even on days when i had previously made excuses for myself on why i couldnt work out, because of a work schedule or whatever i had invented to get out of physical activity, and adhering to their meal plan, which also required more planning and cooking than i was used to. I fell in love. Even though i don't like doing burpees, a year and a half after i started the trial, i'm still going, still hitting 5 days a week, still challenging myself every class that i attend. These workouts are not things that i would do if i was working out by myself, which is a good thing, and the sense of community and camaraderie keep me going. I attend the morning classes since i work nights, so Trent is the trainer that i see most often, and he really helps to make sure that no matter what your fitness level is, there's an option for you. His demeanor also makes me feel really at ease and is very encouraging. Also, with everything that's happened in the last 6 months, all the Covid shut downs and mandates, the trainers were working hard to give us content, Zoom classes and recorded workouts with modifications and options for weights from things that can be found in the household... I did not gain any Covid weight, and i attribute that to having workouts available, and having access to the meal plan, which are pretty easy to prepare, and pretty tasty... and now that they've reopened, they keep it clean and have a great environment to make me feel safe. I love this place, and love the compliments that i get from people that have noticed the difference from my attendance. And i feel great!

Like you know when you had a great workout, I felt that today. So effective and I felt like I was pushing myself. Also what I really like that other gyms miss is the help and motivation from instructors. THIS is the most important thing, form and breathing technique and they help you through each station. The zeal for finding something to new to do in the form exercise led me to SWEAT440 Highland. It is essentially a cross fit / boot camp type workout divided into 4 stations including cardio and strength training at each station. Each exercise series is done three times at each station. It is important to note that there are monitors at each station highlighting which exercise you should be doing by place your name over the exercise display. This cross fit / boot camp type training is popular and some variation of this training is done by other fitness groups. Pros: It is 40 minutes in total, which allows you to get in and get out pretty quickly. SWEAT440 provides a full body work out. They also have onsite showers in case you need to shower before work. The exercises are rather straightforward and easy to do. Con: Anti-bacterial wipes are available throughout your workout, however, you are not asked to clean the equipment until the last round of your third set at a station. For a resident germaphobe, that was a bit offputting. I must say I did get a great workout.

What a great experience so far. Requested information via the Yelp projects and John from Austin…read moreSimply Fit reached out promptly. Scheduled a call to review my needs and was able to get into Eric's schedule for a Friday assessment. The gym is quaint and quiet, I've driven by a million times. The parking is a bit odd, a few spots up front where you have to reverse onto S Lamar when exiting...sooo that can be a challenge. They have parking in the rear of the building which is great however there is a single entry way and well, not sure how multiple cars could park and get out. Just know your reverse skills need to be on point. The gym inside has everything you'd need and since it's not open to the public it's just the clients and trainers. That means no waiting for machines and no one looking at you while you're there. Eric is great, he's very easy to talk to and made the whole experience easy. Upon arrival we walked through the questionnaire filled out online to find out the why behind the personal training inquiry. He then did a body scan for weight and fat %, took blood pressure three times as well. Gave a quick tour of the gym and how things work then it was onto the physical movement assessment. Nothing too crazy, range of motion and flexibility tasks. Took an hour for the initial visit and came back the next day to finish a few small exercises then learn the warm up needed prior to sessions. No membership needed as you buy the session in backs, 5, 10, 20 and can be used how you want. Like that there's no long term contract to sign. Session will start in the next week or so with focus on building/repairing the base/functional imbalances before getting into the fun part. Time will tell how this goes, wish me luck!

In the past year…read moreworking out with him as my trainer 3x a week (from February 25-February 26) I lost 15 pounds... now it's May I've lost 20, but honestly, that is only a surface component of the impact I've felt. More importantly, I drink so much less without really noticing, I eat better and I've built muscle and carved out a lean version of me that's much stronger and less achy than the me I've known for so long. I feel stronger and more stable in my body than I have in my adulthood, and it really does make me feel like I have more energy. I think because I do. Nick's approach goes far beyond just "working out." He has helped me improve my stability, mobility, posture, and overall strength in a way that feels sustainable and deeply functional. It's also just so pleasant to work out with him, I never dread the gym because we go hard, but not so hard that you just want to get out of there, and yet the results are still great! One of the biggest changes I've noticed is in my shoulders and neck. I've had long-time sloped shoulders and neck tension that used to bother me by the end of every workday, and now I'm moving through my days essentially pain-free. Nick is thoughtful, knowledgeable, humble, encouraging, and incredibly good at building a program around your actual body, your goals, and your life. I feel stronger, healthier, more confident, and more connected to my body because of his training. I cannot recommend Nick enough!! See my before and after - not that the outside is really what matters most, but how you feel inside.
