I have been working out at Iconic for almost 4 months now and had zero CrossFit experience. I was nervous to join at first but after a few days in the gym I felt right at home. The coaches and gym staff were so helpful. The workouts are preprogrammed for you and if your new they will give you options to make sure your safe and you get a great workout in the process. They teach you the proper lifting technic and movement standards. As well as the members at the gym are right there to cheer you on and motivate you to give it your best. Not only have I enjoyed going to Iconic but I have lost almost 50 pounds by just going to the gym 4-5 days a week and making smarter food choices. Like I get winded going up the stairs but John has been so helpful in making each workout of the day doable for me. It's a hundred times better than any personal trainer or any other gym I have ever had. CrossFit Escondido is much more than a gym. Yes, you will absolutely get in fantastic shape if you go regularly, but it's also a family. The owners, Patrick, Ashley, Deryk, and Chris truly care about all their members. They always take the extra time to make sure everyone is safe and gets a great workout no matter their current level of fitness. The members are also a great bunch. It's not uncommon to see them cheering on other members at the end of a really tough workout. High fives and fist bumps happen after every workout. CrossFit may seem intimidating to newbies, but the coaches will modify the workouts so that you will get a great workout no matter your fitness level. We have members of all ages, backgrounds and fitness levels. CrossFit Escondido also requires all new members to go through a set of intro classes so that they aren't just thrown into the deep end of the pool. All the coaches at CrossFit Escondido are knowledgeable, caring, and incredibly supportive. They'll push you, but always in a positive and safe way. (No drill instructors here.) The gym is really big and the equipment is in great shape. There is always plenty of room for the classes to do the workout and for other athletes to train on special moves, work on Olympic lifting, stretch, and cool down. If you want to finally get in shape or take your fitness to the next level and actually have a good time doing it, give CrossFit Escondido a try. It will hurt, but you'll have a dozen new friends suffering with you (CrossFit is always taught as a class). The owners of the gym also go out of their way to create a sense of community. We have BBQs, movie nights, and group outings. I love being a member of CrossFit Escondido. Going to the gym is just an excuse to hang out with some of my favorite people in the world. From day one we were treated with professionalism. John was excellent in communication with us prior to coming in and afterwards. We took an evening to check out the place and we were quickly in the mix of learning and a work out. Michael does a great job explaining the movements and makes sure you understand without getting injured. Between the three owners you couldn't ask for more complete team. There are no egos but only encouragement. Over the last couple of weeks we have met a number of people that have been at General Athletics from 1 month to years of training... Everyone is very supportive; everything you would want from a team sport gym. The gym is very open and allows for multiple activities to go on at the same time. The trainers and the programming are outstanding which is really the key to any CrossFit box. I have been going for about three weeks now since i 'graduated' from the foundation classes. Short form: This is one of the best workouts; best gyms; best people I've ever worked out with. Why? My preconceived notions of any Crossfit gym were all a result of a bad experience where I was thrown in with zero knowledge of the workouts the classes and the level of fitness i was at or the class was it. In short I lasted maybe 15minutes before I threw up and nearly passed out. After that I was done with the idea of going to Crossfit ever since i saw it as super douchey, arrogant and what not. After moving to Escondido last year I started up at Chuze ( because it was cheap, and clean) and deciding to create a program for myself to go every other day. That lasted maybe a week or so. I hamster-wheeled it each time i went; got bored; got too many work emails on my phone and decided to leave. My friends in the Bay Area started Crossfit maybe 9 months before I moved and i definitely noticed the change in their physique but just how amp'ed they seemed to be going to the gym all the time - prior to that we were all pretty much burned on the whole gym thing being a glorified night club. So recently i thought i would give it a shot at Escondido Crossfit since I saw the blazing reviews and it had always been something that I wanted to try, despite my bad experience. That, and I had seen my friends not just get results at but really enjoy going to the gym. The one's in L.A for acting gigs, and the ones in SF for training for their crazy marathons where people set things on fire... I decided to check it out and wandered down to "maybe" go to a free class "the next day" when it was Chris (one of the owner/coaches) who suggested I come back in an hr and try it for free. So i did since i had nothing to lose and no work to excuse myself from. I was so glad I did. This place really has broken any perceptions of what I have had. As soon as I completed my five foundation classes I joined. You can see it in the coaches. Their enthusiasm they bring, their passion and commitment to their classes. It definitely feels very cooperative. They are patient, which if you are a total newbie like I am is feels super less daunting. They obviously do this not just as a "job" but as a lifestyle and something they are very passionate about. And it really shows. The classes will kick your ass. Completely. You will not have a "pretty" workout where you can just sorta chill and do cardio and check your cellphone. These classes have really, really whipped my ass to the point where I have had literally zero strength left. But, afterward? That pay off on the way home is like i have never had before. It really, really feels super cathartic to work all day, or whatever it is you do, and get well and truly broken down worked out sweaty and exhausted. I've never slept better! Side note: Drink lots of water throughout the day as Ashley advised me. LOTS. I enjoy the sense of camaraderie and the variation of the classes. Each day is a challenge, a new one, and it's great to watch yourself improve in areas you really had no notion of improving in before. Put it this way: At my old gym i would be able to create all manner of reasons why i couldn't be arsed going. Here I actually like going. I actually enjoy the workouts (except running but that's because riding bikes has eff'd my knees up over the years) and the way they challenge my body and my sense of commitment and persevering. I can't stress enough how the coaches here: Chris; Derek; Ashley and the rest whom I have yet to have a class with REALLY make this place the awesome place it is. If you think you will be flailing around left to your own devices and stumped on a workout: you're wrong. They all should be super proud of their place in the community. So this is only week three-sih - proper - and I am stoked to see where it goes. If you have thought about taking a class, just jump in feet-first and it will totally change your mind. There are ladies here my mum's age that are in way better shape than I, so if you think it is a young kids game then think again. It's pretty much for anyone. Seriously all my preconceptions that I either had to be like Thor to go, or know EVERY exercise in and out beginning to end in order to just do one class, or that it would be like the miserable gym classes at my boys school in England have totally been redefined. read more

First off this place is big, like 7,000 square feet big. So it's a nice change of pace from other crossfit gyms in the area. The amount of space comfortably houses all of the high quality Rogue equipment, a full class, and so many activities! The programming is well thought out and creates a great foundation to be a better crossfitter. The hardcore fire breather athlete and the average Joe/Jane that wants to get in better shape will have a challenge. The coaching staff is experienced, helpful, and motivating. I have been going to this gym for about a year consistently and they have never done less than to exceed all my expectations. Every person is friendly, welcoming, & inspiring. The coaches truly care about your progress, your experience, and your health. The best warm ups & strength programming ever compared to other CrossFit gyms I have been a member at. I like this place so much, I almost don't want others to know about it so I can have it to myself :-). The number of members seems to grow quickly. Apart from the fact that this is a huge and very well equipped facility, it is really the coaches that make this box worth coming to. They are so encouraging and genuinely care about bringing out all your potential. They give you this "personal trainer" feeling, even when we are working in out in a group of 10. I am new to CrossFit and was intimidated by the idea of joining the group workouts with the experienced "lifters". But the coaches eliminated that fear pretty much instantly and made me feel like part of the group. Both, the coaches and members create a highly motivating, rewarding and energizing atmosphere. I am coming here 3-4 times a week, and no matter what mood I am in when I arrive, I am always in a great mood afterwards! That is probably my favorite part. read more

I joined almost 2 months ago and it was the best decision I could have made for the future of my health. I have not worked out in over 10 years and Chris and his staff couldn't be anymore inviting and helpful. It can be intimidating to walk into a Olympic training center. But you really do get one on one coaching in a class setting where you work at your own level. I walked away from fitness about ten years ago. Since then I have slowly been gaining weight and losing muscle. The typical gym just want appealing to me anymore and frankly I just couldn't find the motivation to go. My father in law told me about CrossFit and I was highly skeptical. It seemed similar to these other PB90x or "Insanity" type routines that I have tried in the past. But after the wife joined Iconic last summer and I witnessed her physical and mental transformation, I thought to myself, I should just try it. I had no idea what to expect. I walked in day one and was greeted by the nicest and most inviting staff. My anxiety was immediately gone and the team took time to educate me on the methodology, form, process and expectations. My first class was invigorating!!! The honeymoon period lasted about a day and then bam! Those first two weeks got pretty tough. But once I crested that two week threshold my body changed. I was starting to get physically conditioned, my breathing felt better, I started to sleep better, I could think sharper,... the results started to show in more than just the physical sense. Now I am absolutely addicted. I want to go to Crossfit Iconic because I feel so much better everyday. My confidence has grown, I have started to shed a lot of weight and my muscle definition is coming back. I can't believe after ten years that I could get back into shape so quickly. What is so surprising is that you really get to know all the staff and members really well. They are all so incredibly nice and truly interested in your success. Crossfit Escondido has been a haven for me since moving to California from Austin. I live just a few blocks from their location, and initially my thinking was that if they were halfway decent they would work given their proximity to home. They have surpassed my expectations in every way. My background in Crossfit reaches back nearly three years now, having started at Crossfit Central in Austin in July of 2012 as a total rookie who didn't know how to do an airsquat. I'm not the fittest, nor am I the fastest or strongest, but I'm fitter and faster and stronger than I was three years ago, and these guys have had a big role in helping me improve in the last 8 months. The coaches are VERY plugged into each athlete's strengths and weaknesses, and the programming is really smart, they stay very true to the mission and are constantly varying the movements each week. I feel very confident that I am getting the kind of training I need to be my best at this box. Central was a pretty well oiled machine, which was a perfect place for me to get started over in TX, and I've dropped into many boxes around the Country, not everything works, but these guys, they are young and the gym is still relatively small compared to what I'm used to, but they get it done right. Skills are monitored and the coaches are constantly giving feedback to improve technique, strength, and keep athletes safe. There is a lot of individual focus, even in a bigger class. There is a day each week dedicated to Olympic lifting, which I love, since many times in a regular class it's hard to devote time to the complicated movements that go into a clean or a snatch. The atmosphere is lighthearted and upbeat, and I'm pretty sure more people know my name there than I even realize. There is a strong sense of community, and people support each other beyond the gym, which is one of the things I love most about Crossfit. Athletes are always motivating each other, people are encouraged to stay consistent in their workouts. The value is awesome as well. I pay the same price for unlimited monthly workouts that I paid for 8 workouts per month in Austin. All in all, a pretty awesome place that I have come to call home in my new home on the west coast, I love walking across the street and working out here each day. read more
