I cancelled my membership because they have to blast the music so loud on the gym floor (not in classes). Not sure why when 95% of customers have their own headset. Must be for the staff? I switched to 24 where they have a much more peaceful experience with low volume music if any. I complained several time in surveys and to staff but they didnt care. But...If you like very loud music when you work out, this is the place for you. They have a powerful sound system. Feels like a dance club or concert. read more

Hi, my name is Lana. I have been going to this Fit Athletic gym location for over a year. I chose this location from some of the Fit Athletic gyms in San Diego. I live 15 miles from this gym and usually drive on traffic-jam-free highways for half an hour. However, that doesn't scare me. It looks like "To wonderful workout place - seven miles, not a circle" What I mean is that it is essential for me that the gym is clean, with caring, friendly staff, fresh white towels, a vibration platform, a sauna, and a shower. Proteus acquired my membership from BXNG (which was pending cancellation) & charged me $228. I have never visited the gym or authorized a charge. Their management refused to refund it, even though 1.) they did not process the cancellation I submitted to boxing and 2.) the charge was not consistent with my contract (which guaranteed a rate of $128 for the first two billing cycles). read more

I saw a charge for $228 for membership. I have never agreed nor have I authorize any charge for membership. Let alone join the gym. I was a previous member of the BXNG club that went bankrupt in close suddenly. I have never signed a contract for membership and nor did I plan on visiting or using their facility. I left my phone number and no one has called me. I only received the email from management saying that they refuse to refund due to a clause in my original agreement with the previous gym that they said made it legal for them. This is an unauthorized charge that they claim is legal. All they do is share a POS system, and I cannot imagine all the other previous members that were also charge for the same membership fee without any agreement in place. They said that they sent previous emails to me and that I have opened them which is not an agreement just because I open the emails. I will be fighting this as they encourage me to visit the gym and they will cancel my membership. read more

Have been a member for many years because of convenience. They did a remodel recently but still have so many inoperable cardio machines. There are 5 stair mills and only one works. It's been that way for over a year. They keep telling us that they will get the other 4 repaired but it's all just empty promises. They need new machines and need to stop with the band aids. I gave them two stars because the staff is super nice and it's basically empty most days. If the stair mills were replaced or if there was a more permanent fix, would be 4.5 stars. It's the little things that make a difference with gyms, as with most places. read more

The only reason we joined was due to my job having a discount program through the club. We originally paid $80/per month per person but received a notice today that the owner raised prices and our new 'discounted' price with be $108... $8 less than a normal membership. The gym is like a high school with constant drop-off & pick-up lines in front of the entrance. Most days of the week there is sports practice and/or games for local high school teams, and the side turf area is closed during most classes. You will not be able to utilize the extra rooms between 3 pm-7 pm due to back-to-back classes. (FYI: The group fitness instructor, Olga, is very hostile and rude.) The janitor(s) try to do their best with cleaning, but there isn't enough of them, leading to a very dirty area. Even my husband who isn't hard to please believes this gym is overpriced. Per the front desk staff, this gym is under new ownership, and it is very obvious. The other Fit Athletics keep a high standard, but this location? Not. For the price, you are getting a 24-hour fitness-style gym with towel service(s). The drink(s) are overpriced (Alani Nu $6+) and now all of the fridges are empty. My prior review of this gym which you may reference gave it four stars - and although some amenities such as showers and sauna are currently not available, I will maintain the same rating because FIT is at least open post-coronavirus, and does seem to be doing a responsible job of keeping things clean and safe. Update 6/29/20: showers (not sauna) now open. Monday June 15th was the first day for re-opening of the gym, since mid-March 2020: three months closed! The current system requires you to make a workout reservation, up to 7 days in advance, via their new FIT Athletic Club mobile app (a new app, different from the "Fit" app they had before). All reservations are 1 1/2 hours long, followed by a thirty minute deep cleaning during which the gym is kept closed. Update: 6/29/20: reservations now 2 1/2 hours long. The reservation system allows up to 100 to book per time slot, and it doesn't seem too busy. I understand that some lines have piled up just to get into the gym during some time slots, because everyone must enter at the same time. This gym is one of the least crowded gyms I have experienced in San Diego, and it is not crowded post-coronavirus either. Upon arrival, you will find all staff wearing masks - temperature check on entry. No more unlimited towel service - just one small towel issued on entry. Update 6/29/20: bath towels also now available. Masks are optional on the workout floor, but I wore one at all times. I brought one tri-ply mask to wear on the way in and out of the gym - which is mandatory, and wore a different one, that I washed with soap after use, for the workout floor. I noticed maybe a half dozen members wearing masks while working out, but most were bare faced. Coronavirus protection-wise, I understand that the mask protects more from giving rather than receiving the virus, which means that in order for someone to be protected, everyone in the room would need to wear a mask. Inside the gym most everything is actually the same. There was some effort to move some exercise or aerobic machines farther apart, but many are exactly where they always were. Upstairs every other aerobics machine is marked as closed with a blue sign. Downstairs I did not notice any missing equipment other than a row of dumbbells normally located near exit doors that lead to the tennis courts and outside exercise area that were moved upstairs. Bosu, exercise balls, medicine balls, all still there. Most (not all) of the resistance cords still there too. While working out, I took the time - as suggested by the email we were all sent - to wipe down equipment I used before and after, and actually most members seemed to be conscientious about this too. For this they have set out a paper towels and a spray bottle upstairs, and also there are the wet wipes that come out of the dispensers upstairs and down. I did notice a FIT team member wiping down the aerobics equipment upstairs, but downstairs it was left up to us at least during the time the gym is open. Hand sanitizer dispenser on the wall upstairs, but the only one downstairs I believe is near the entrance on what formerly was the Eucalyptus tower refrigerator. Nothing in the outside workout area - no hand sanitizers or wipe down wet towels. I believe there should be more paper towels laid out, as we probably shouldn't be wiping sweat off our faces with the same little one and only towel they give us for the workout, which we sit on while on the machines. Only certain lockers - spaced apart - are unlocked and available for use. The benches are gone from the locker room which I thought odd. So we're supposed to sit on the ground? How is that sanitary. People were being mindful to distance socially, and it was clear that everyone there was just grateful to be back in the gym. I did maintain an every other day semblance of workout (Arnold Schwarzenneger's at home) the past few months, but it was nothing like lifting heavy weights. I already started lifting weights a few days prior to FIT's opening, as I am also a member of a different gym that opened earlier. I am definitely sore after this return to heavy weights after such a long break, but I hope that my strength will return. After this three month break from the gym, I found that I was about 5% weaker on some of the exercises, such as chest and shoulder press, which isn't too bad. I expect it will take a good two months to get back to my prior strength. My aerobics capacity seemed about the same, but then we did start putting in some long distance hiking on decent grades lately. FIT sauna and showers are closed. 1 1/2 hours is actually not quite long enough (for me anyway), to arrive, change clothes, do my aerobics and all my weights, so I started arriiving already suited up and using the locker room pretty much just for drinking water and for making my protein shake after the workout. In all, a good job by FIT, and glad to be back! read more

A fitness club that places interior design first and the bottom line at the bottom of its business model are typically by any definition a failure. Scott Lutwick the so-called owner of FIT is actually nothing more than a figurehead of the anonymous leadership and finance group behind this massive financial mess. A quick look at the corporate filings in the state of California reveal alarming losses every year since the existence of the FIT chain and brand. Lutwick is a grifter with no business acumen or track record of successful enterprise, this is a lifestyle position for Lutwick who has been pocketing 100% of the profits from the branded FIT packaged meal business for years. Not a dime has gone to charity and the owners of the food provider have been stiffed with recourse coming from court filings. With every new location it opens in toney areas such as Little Italy and Carmel Valley the brand accumulates even more debt. Running in the red and stockpiling debt seems to be FIT's only goal with no obvious solution on the horizon. Consider the lease expense, utilities and staffing costs and even a highly overpriced bottle of water can't make up for the illogical money pit. Every year when IRSHA transcends on the San Diego convention center Lutwick parades groups of foreign "investors" through the downtown location offering franchise rights. FIT doesn't have a franchise model in place and every year he fails to secure outside funding due to the companies blackhole of financial catastrophes. The company hires unknowing and ignorant yes men to run its operations. If I told you that " Chad" is their general manager you may ask yourself, are you kidding, the answer is no! Chad is as clueless as the rest of company operating blindly as if he actually has a future. Nobody wants to see folks lose jobs or find themselves in financial straits, however if you work for a company like this it isn't anyone's fault but your own. read more

If I could give this place a negative star rating I would. The gym is filthy and management does not respond to complaints that things are dirty and require cleaning. The locker room is gross and I refuse to use the dirty showers. The workout areas are dirty and often the equipment needs repair, but again, the management will not get it repaired. Ugh!! The trainers are not knowledgeable at all and the fees for training are very high. Management would not let me cancel my membership and attempted to continue to charge me after I canceled it. When I spoke with the manager she was rude and unprofessional and I honestly don't understand how they can stay in business. My friends will not go there for the same reasons. I advise others to be very cautious about agreeing to a contract with them. read more

This was the most common location I utilized since it was closest to where I live. However, not my favorite compared to the other locations and would not invest in a membership solely for this location. CONS: * The locker rooms are not well maintained. Lacked overall supplies (towels, toilet seat covers, toilet paper) * The parking spaces are very tight considering how large the lot is. Patrons are not mindful driving through the parking lot or going in and out of their cars. I have witnessed people open their doors freely and hit my car while I am still sitting in it. * Enjoyed using the kids playcare but it was raised from $40 for 1 child to $70 a month.... INSANE. * Staff are usually seen socializing with one another or sitting on the computers. * Supposed to be a high-end club but still feels like an renovated YMCA. * Outdoor area is not well managed and has limited equipment. What is left out there is definitely left out and not properly stored overnight with the rust to show. I'm appalled at the level of so called 'service' the manager here demonstrated today. After multiple racial comments, berating of my partner who is expecting, and treating me as if I've done something wrong, it's no wonder this gym is on its way out. From the blatant 'accidental double charges' for membership dues. To random 'club upkeep fees' it's no wonder this gym is on its way out and renting space to businesses like Proteus to stay afloat. The facility can get the job done for a workout, for a fraction of the fees you can easily go elsewhere and have a much more pleasant experience. Update: this review resulted in me being BANNED from the gym. I've filed a Better Business Bureau complaint since then and will be moving forward to share the story on KUSI. read more

Here now for a kids birthday party . This is a pretty awesome gym with a large outdoor pool . This athletic club rivals the Bay Club . Parking wasn't an issue but it was still early at 11a. The pool is well organized with life guards . Kids are in one section and adults are in another with swim lanes dedicated to them . Loves . Friend had a reserved section by pool that's shaded with tables , sofas , and benches . The section is quiet and private (even with tons of kids ). They let you bring your own food and drinks . Friend also hired a snow cone truck that's currently parked in the lot by the pool . Easy access . I believe it was $150 for four hours to rent the outdoor space . No one was at front desk though when I came in . So had no idea where to go . Would have loved a tour of this gym as it looks pretty darn cool - read more

I have been a member for years and this gym has really gone downhill. They took out the tennis courts, closed childcare, and shut down the pool. Equipment is CONSISTENTLY broken with no signs of repairs. I have counted at least seven machines broken simultaneously. Not to mention when it rains the gym is littered with buckets because they don't fix the roof. And that isn't because we had an unusually rainy season - this has been going on for YEARS. I am only a member for convenience but it is very frustrating to see all of this money invested in a turf that regular members don't use while even basic maintenance and functionality are overlooked. Pricier than most other places (LAFitness, 24 hour, etc.) BUT it is a luxury gym after all. This means extra amenities like face towels, towels, sauna, shampoo/conditioner/bodysoap... heck, there's even mouthwash. The equipment gets the job done with plenty of weights, benches, racks, machines, and even an outdoor turf area to mix things up a little. Even with COVID clearing up, the housekeeping crew keeps everything sanitized and very maintained. Be sure to ask for Josh! He's a really reliable guy and will go to the moon and back to help anyone out! read more

Thanks to Yelp NCSD, I was able to get a trial membership for 1 month and now I'm a member!!! That 1 month changed my body DRASTICALLY, but then again I was going to the gym 3-4 times a week and sometimes taking back to back fitness classes (Full Body and Interval Spin). I really like the Fit in CM because it's bigger, swimming pool, tennis court, larger fitness room and generally I don't feel claustrophobic. The staff are really friendly, and I have actually met some nice members while taking classes. Free towels, lockers and bathroom amenities are available which I really love. It's not normally crowded but when the classes end sometimes the bathroom and showers are crazy long and you have to wait. I lift sometimes in the big weight area and it's never crowded. People are respectful of one another with space and I don't feel as if people are watching me. Upstairs are the cardio machines and stretching machines which I do enjoy with all the state of the art equipment. There is an initiation fee, monthly fee and then there's an equipment fee that you pay every January. Please ask questions before you sign up! Also, the only downfall is that they don't have all-club access with your membership unless you pay for an upgrade fee. I requested a 2-club access (CM and SB) but was denied. Love the instructors at this location. They have been instrumental towards my wedding body shape for 2016! read more

I had a great experience working out at fit this week. Very friendly staff, clean facilities and not packed with a lot of people. All the equipment is there that you need, and you're always met with a friendly face. Pretty good assortment of drinks and proteins for you after your work out too. Everyone is wearing masks, and they have sprays and wipes if you want to use those as well. I had excellent service from the manager Anne who allowed me to bring a friend who was visiting from out of town and I was also give some cool exercise techniques from Josh. Slippery contracts! Be sure to check your charges every month, annual fees and monthly, and watch out!! A month in advance notice of cancellation not enough. They charge a month in advance and need another month prior to that if you want out or move, they don't care. They removed the tennis courts and the pool is poorly monitored, often closed and dirty. Also, the roof leaks and the temperature control is poor, so it can be super hot inside. All this is sad because the machines are pretty good, locker room nice, and most of the staff is helpful. I went there on a visitor pass years ago and today they emailed me a contract with a bunch or personal info on it and even fake signatures that say I signed up and owe then $130 a month going forward plus a $75 annual fee. The worst thing a business can do these days is not have an outlet for their customers to make an appeal without going to a social media site. To bad fit Athletic Club doesn't have a corporate messaging system, as I would much rather communicate disappointments directly with corporate leadership. My first experience with fit was several years ago in East Village of DT San Diego. I loved the gym and it was always well maintained and clean. A few years back I moved out of DT and joined other gyms. I recently found that fit opened a gym in Carmel Mountain. I was considering changing my membership because I thought fit would be a better choice due to my DT San Diego experience. I visited as a day pass guest to see if it was as nice. When I arrived, I was impressed by the building. You can tell it was something else at one time but it looked promising. Stepping inside you start getting the feeling that it's not the same level as DT, and once you really start looking around and using the facility you realize it's in a much lower level. Like third string level. I asked the receptionist what it was previously and she indicated it was a Frog's gym. Im not surprised that went out. I have to say the employee's I met were over the top friendly and just cool young folks. However, the cleanliness and overall conditions of this club is about a 5 on a scale of 1-10. Some areas that would prove to be a huge improvement: * Clean the equipment. Especially down low. Some pieces are really filthy. * Windows are dirty and smudged. * Keep the locker room clean. I don't think it was cleaned for most of the day when I was there. You can't allow a small locker room go unattended for very long at all. I experienced snot rags on the floor, used towels strewn all over, a stack of used towels thrown over the shower curtain bar, and blood steaks dripping down the inside of the shower curtain. * One of the main reasons I wanted to use this gym is because I wanted to use the saunas. Come to find out there is no steam sauna. The dry sauna looks like it's about 20 years old and that was the last time it was cleaned. Dry saunas need a good power washing at least a couple times per year. * The carpets throughout the gym, especially up the stairs is incredibly filthy. I spoke to the receptionist when I checked in and a different one when I checked out. They were both very nice. I told them my story about belonging to the East Village gym, and they both said, oh, that's a really nice one isn't it? That comment kind of struck me strangely as I thought - shouldn't all of the fit clubs be very nice? How do you build a brand when one is nice and another is not. You can tell the modernization of this gym from a Frog's wasn't thoroughly done. Kind of piecemealed, which is very noticeable. Essentially no nicer than an EOS gym, which in my book is low end.
