I'll preface this review by saying that my experience is based on this particular franchise location, not the Planet Fitness as a whole. This is not my home-base Planet Fitness. I go to the one on the west side of Escondido. However, because of kids going to new schools, I explored the idea of maybe using this location once or twice a week as it's more conveniently located some days.. I thought that my Black Card membership allowed access to all locations, but at this location, this franchise owner doesn't honor that. This location only allows 10 visits, and then you must change your home base to this location. This stipulation is NOT documented on the corporate site. So right off the bat, this wouldn't work for me as I only need it for maybe twice a week while the rest of the week the other location is where I'd go. The actual gym experience here is not desirable on many levels. As many others have mentioned, this location is sketchy. This strip mall is full of random people cruising around the parking lot on bikes, people walking around selling things like jewelry and tamales, and there are homeless all around. Note that there was a small homeless encampment next to the front door of this gym. It's the kind of location you wouldn't let your mom or daughters visit alone at night. So, even if those things could be overlooked, there is still the actual gym itself. It's dark inside. I don't know if they're cutting costs or what. It's not a good vibe at all. The equipment is old and janky here, especially when compared to the west Escondido location. An analogy between the two locations would be a ride at Disneyland versus a ride at a fly-by-night carnival. Disneyland's rides feel secure and safe. The carnival ride? Well, you're literally praying for a quick death if something goes wrong, which is a possibility. Also, the water from their drinking fountain was warm. I don't like this location at all. But for $10 a month, it's probably cheaper to take showers here than at home. read more

Today, December 21, I came in, checked in and said hello to two behind the desk who didn't even acknowledge me. The dude had some impressive holes in his ears. The bathroom has had what looks like human excrement smeared on the trash can lid for days. I've been a member of this gym for 3 years now. It's very affordable and the hours make it so you can get a quick early workout or late at night. The team always greets people as they come in and wish them well as they leave. The gym is a dimmer version than I've seen before but I don't mind it. They have about 20 monitors ranging from News to soap operas. I also highly recommend checking the app before heading over. It displays a crowd meter which helps me decide if it's the right time for me. Only suggestion is better lighting in the parking lot. I want to feel safe when I'm walking to my car while it's dark out. read more

I've been going to Planet Fitness in Escondido on East Valley Pkwy for a couple of years. It is super clean and spacious, and they recently got all kinds of new equipment, which took the gym to the next level! The staff and management are always friendly and welcoming. And you get amenities like the massage chairs, red light therapy rooms, and tanning rooms... for at least half the price of other gyms. I've been a member at this location since 12/09/23. I work closing shifts and this was the only gym around my budget at the time that was 24 hours. I've never had an issue with anyone there, the night crew workers were always cool and even if i was ever late on a fee they'd let me know and allow me to workout, but i would always make my payments regardless. I recently convinced my friend to sign up at this gym , the same night we go to workout, i noticed a newer guy working the desk and when we went in to scan our membership, he immediately stops us and tells us he can't allow my friend workout because he isn't in the 'system', my friend offered to cancel his membership on the app and sign up in person with him, but he refused and said "we can't take payment until 7am". We didn't make it a big deal but mind you, i've purchased drinks before and even made some late fee payments with the other night crew so this was the first time i have ever heard about the payment thing. the next day my friend and I went again , and again we were stopped by the same guy but this time there was no problem with our accounts so he allowed us to continue with our workout. This became a normal pattern though, every time we would scan our memberships he would stop us to make sure our accounts were good, but he would never check anyone else's and I made sure to pay attention to that. about two days- three days ago he was mopping in front of the entrance door and people were entering and exiting going around the cones he set up , he never mentioned anything to the members. As my friend and I went to exit the gym he raises his voice at us and says "can you guys go around the cones please" which frustrated my friend and I because we see him there , we're not gonna walk through his work? It made me more upset that he even had to say anything when he wasn't saying anything to anyone else so at this point i'm assuming he's targeting us. Yesterday around 10pm or 11 pm, i purposely walked behind another member, a couple feet from them , i watched as they went in and scanned their membership and nothing happened, the man was mopping near the windows . Now i walk in scan my membership, he immediately sees me and walks around the desk to check the computer , and tells me I have a late fee and I can't workout. That was the last straw. I felt like we were being harassed and given dirty looks which is why my friend and I are canceling our memberships and are switching to EOS instead. read more

It's pretty simple, I can take this to civil court costing the gym the cost of the membership fees, lawyer fees and court fees as it's clearly illegal to do this. Or you can either refund me the full amount of those ten months, or credit my account 10 months at the gym The contract must allow you or your estate to cancel if you become disabled or die,18 and also if you move more than 25 miles from the facility.19 You may cancel on either of these grounds at any time. "In order to cancel on the basis of disability, the disability must be of a kind that somehow affects your capacity to use or enjoy the club's facilities. A physician must verify the condition.20 In the event of your death, your representative may cancel the contract. You or your representative must request the refund.21" On 1/16/22 I broke three bones in my back and two in my wrist. I was in the hospital for a week. Upon my release I called the Escondido, CA location to pause my location for an indefinite time as I was LEGALLY disabled. I can provide paperwork on that. They told me a manager would call, they never did, upon follow up they told me that I would have to come in to cancel. As I couldn't even walk let alone drive, that wasn't possible. They told me that was the only way to cancel or freeze. As I was in too much pain to deal with pressing matters further, I decided to just let it go. As it is now October, I decided to email them, so we will see how it goes. But for now, the lack of professionalism is ridiculous and getting a one star. Without the 10 month credit, or Refund I will take it to court, as ADA laws do cover membership etc read more

I've been a member of a couple of clubs before. Both clubs wanted everything about me NAME, DOB, CREDIT CARD NUMBER, BANK ACCOUNT NUMBER, BANK ROUTING NUMBER, SSN! When I terminated my membership, they put me through the wringer...why I was terminating, needed a letter from my command stating I was deploying, etc.. I've been wanting to join Planet Fitness for sometime now, but they have the same requirements...they want all my financial information. Why can't they just work out of a credit card? Many businesses do. Also, I suspect the wringer routine again with their requirement for termination to come in physically to a location, or write a letter...for what? ​It's been a while since I gave a positive review. I don't like to give bad reviews, but I can't say the untruth. I work out here 2-3/week but never pay attention to their signs. Didn't come for over a week and all my belongings, including the lock. I asked the front reps what happened, they asked how long I haven't visit. It has been a week. So that was why. We can't leave our belonging overnight, which I both forgot and wasn't aware of. So I wasn't happy. ​ I left a note with the 2 reps with my name, phone #, and the locker #. And 2-3 times I asked the reps to have their manager to contact me. I need my belongings back. The 2 staffs has no idea where it could be. The next day, it was past noon and I didn't hear back from anybody. So I asked to speak to the manager as I came in to workout. The way she took the situation and how she politely and genuinely explained why that was, with a sweet smile. She was sweet and proper so I reciprocate her. She walked me to a room then politely asked me to wait for her to get my belongings. She verified what was in the locker to make sure I was the owner of it. Yes, should verify. I would do the same. I am glad to get my stuff back, and feel bad to have put them through having to cut my lock. Which she said to give me discount if I bought another one. Which I appreciate, but it wasn't that that I gave a positive review. I give this review because of her polite, attentive ways. It was professional, but I know it wasn't just that. It's her understanding to smoothly handle the situations, if it was handled differently, I might have got upset. We need more people like her, to always put ourselves in others' shoes, to properly do things right without others having to point them out or to complain. But I wonder how come the staff had no idea where it could be. Ah well, that's already the past. The present is I had a good experience with the lady manager. read more

Great gym, great place to work out, but terrible customer service. I wanted to work out for one month while I was home from college, so I paid for a month. Covid closed the gyms then they re open a few months later. I check my bank account and realize that planet fitness has been charging my account ever since they reopened! I'm in another state! So I call and ask if they can refund the money since there was obviously a mistake, only about $70, but they refused. I'm pretty sure I'll be going to another gym next summer. Too bad. read more

I just started coming to this gym. I used to belong to YMCA at one point and LA Fitness at another point. So far this is the best bang for your buck. I have the black card but have not had the opportunity to enjoy the extra amenities. Some staff are much friendlier than others. There was an older gentleman my first day there that smiled and made me feel very welcomed. My favorite thing about this gym is that all of the equipment is put into sections by muscle group. My usual gym doesn't open until 7am on weekends so I figured I would give this location a try before work. I checked in, made it as far as the locker rooms, and left. This was at about 6am on a Saturday, and there were not one but two staff members behind the desk who were apparently too busy leaning against the counter with their noses buried in their phones to look up and even acknowledge that someone had walked through the door. The gym was very dimly lit, as was the locker room. Most of the big lockers that I saw had broken latches for your lock, and even the "big" lockers were tiny. I go to the gym at least 4 days a week before work, and there's no way that my backpack and work clothes would fit in the lockers here without my clothes getting completely wrinkled. The locker is hardly even wide enough for just my backpack! So now I am happily sitting in a parking lot in the rain waiting for my usual location to open at 7:00. I'm not saying anyone needs to be sunshine and smiles at 6am on a Saturday, but to barely acknowledge someone when they walk through the door, and walk right up to the counter where you are standing is beyond rude. read more

I don't have any issues with the gym. Other than a disheartening experience with guys sitting on machines to make phone calls. There's no enforcement on the floor. I finished my workout and wanted to get the last two machines for my fitness plan. I watched two guys not use the equipment but sit to talk on their phone. I'm updating my review. It's very frustrating that the circuit room is not monitored at all ever. I do it once a week and there's always ppl in the circuit room not doing circuits getting in the way of ppl who are trying to follow the rules. Yet the sign says it's monitored. Equiptment is actually old- as I found out when I visited other PF locations after I had upgraded to black card. I will say staff is very friendly and some even know my name. I am really liking this gym. I left LA Fitness to come here, and glad I did. I love the fact that they're open 24 hours, minus some holidays. Due to my work hours and getting called in at anytime, I like that I have options to go in whenever. Gym is always clean, there are trash can stations spread throughout the facility. They have a cleaning agent in a spray bottle and paper towels. This is fantastic, I will wipe whatever I'm using first, and afterwards. Working in a Hospital I get super weird about touching things that God knows what is on it. #cooties One of the biggest things for me is walking into a gym and the smell of BO takes over. I have not have this issue here at all. At LA Fitness as soon as you walk into the doors the overwhelming smell of body odor hits you, ew. No thanks. Locker rooms are super clean, the only complaint that I will have is in the last 2 weeks or so the ladies bathroom has been kind of dirty, no toilet paper, no seat covers... typically it's not like that, but other than that the locker room and the showers are super clean. Tons of lockers too btw, bring a lock. They have 2 memberships. I have the black card so basically for 19.99 I can do unlimited tanning if I want, the hydro bed/chair massage unlimited(that's worth it alone) and the body enhancement machine. You get a free shirt, unlimited access to home club, unlimited trainings, I can use any PF, unlimited guest passes, 1/2 price cooler drinks, and 20% off of Reebok products and outlet location. The $10 membership you get a free t-shirt, unlimited trainings, and unlimited access to home club. I just recently started using the body enhancement machine and it's supposed to help with collagen, joints, scars, and a lot more benefits using the infrared lighting. We shall see! There are mixed views about it. Will update in a few weeks. I love using the app, super helpful, you basically can do everything from it, I use it to check in, and to keep track of my workouts. This gym is one of the dirtiest facilities I have ever been in to. When you walk in to the gym you're immediately hit in the face with what smells like dirty cat litter and trash. Also welcomed to the stuffiest room with absolutely no air movement ever. And to top it all off, the equipment is so old that it doesn't even sit in place while you're using it. This place is so poorly taken care of, I will never recommend this location to anyone. Drive 5 minutes down the street and go to a PF that actually takes pride in keeping their gym clean and wants you to enjoy your workout. We had a very bad experience with this place! We stopped going due to the pandemic. We have small children at home and couldn't risk their health. Well I just realized they have been charging us the whole time! We haven't gone once since a year and a half ago!! We assumed since they were initially closed due to COVID they stopped charging us but nope! We called to let them know and they weren't helpful at all and refused to reimburse us! I am not wanting to freeze my membership....this incident occured months ago, I'm all healed at this point n didn't know about freezing my account at the time I was injured... I recently joined planet fitness I signed up for the $20 a month and bring a friend for free deal that they offer. I like that they are 24 hours The tanning rooms and massage chairs are a nice feature. I'm new to working out so I like that I feel comfortable here and not intimidated to try using the machines or weights. Husband and I come here nearly every weekday because it's close and opens early, I'm never surprised anymore at how dirty everything is, dust is layered over the mirrors, mirrors are filthy, floors are gross. We have been to other facilities in the PF family and the staff is always cleaning, this one sadly doesn't know how to keep up on maintaining a clean facility. Then go to use their bosu balls and they are deflated, mats are broken and dirty, machines are broken and plate weights are dirty, I'm talking black marks on your clothes and hands.
