Crossgates is a big mall with tons of great stores and a movie theater. The food court is also very good especially China Max and Wendy's. The problem is Crossgates can be very dirty and a lot of bad people go there. There was a shooting here just last year. There are tons of good restaurants such as Cinnabon, Melting Pot, and Auntie Anne's. They also have a Dicks Sporting Goods which is nice. The security guards are terrible they don't actually do anything to the people causing trouble, but they also harass me for an ID. Why do I need an ID to go to the mall. Overall, Crossgates has a lot of good stores and restaurants, but it can be dirty and crowded. read more

Immense mall. The two floors we explored were just packed with a real diverse variety of stores. We saw higher end places and then stores I've never seen in a mall like 'As Seen On TV' and an interesting comic book and game store that seemed like a higher end FYE. Lots of restaurants (food court and standalone) and it wasn't too busy when we were there early on a Friday evening but did fill up by the time we were leaving (probably 2 hours later). There's a lot of entertainment options as they had a theater and some fun adventure type things on the third floor. Very clean and security had a big presence as we saw them working every few stores. Scene: Yours truly was standing against the wall waiting for my partner to meet me when a salesman from a kiosk approached. Swine: "Can I show you something?" Me: "No, thanks." Swine: "Oh come now, I'll show you this blah blah." Me: "No, thank you." Swine: "But why?" Me: "Look, I'm not going to buy anything." Swine: "Why be cheap?" Me: "Don't insult me. What's wrong with you? I'm telling you I'm not going to buy anything from you and you insult me?" He went to try to sell his product to someone else but I followed him and told him he shouldn't be insulting people. I got a mumbled apology and would have continued to follow him around but my partner showed up and I had better places to be. I don't like how many kiosks are at the Crossgates Mall and the tactics that the people who work there use. read more

I'll keep this review short and (bitter) sweet. Unless they get rid of the overly aggressive kiosk workers and survey takers roaming within I will not step foot in this mall's corridors. I don't like being harassed throughout my entire shopping experience. I'll gladly enter a store or a restaurant with it's own exterior entry but that is it. read more

There's not too much to love about this place, it's too big, the parking lots are a nightmare and there's this weird funky mildewy odor throughout the place. I can't handle the chaos, the hordes of teenage girls pushing their parents into credit card debt and the incredibly annoying kiosk people. I don't need their cell phone crap, their hand lotion, their cheesy clothing etc. And don't get me started on how this Macy's is a pale imitation of Colonie Center. The only reason I come here usually is for H&M and DSW. If they would move I'd never darken the door here again. read more

When you see license plates from Vermont, you know this is the mall TO BE AT SON. I used to do stupid stuff here as a junior high and high schooler all the time, browse Victoria's Secret looking to pick up girls, making fun of Abercrombie and Fitch, criticizing Hot Topic, actually buying something from one of the following: Best Buy, DSW, Macy's, that's probably it. I've gotten racist comments here, I've seen 2 instances of actual Nazism here, I've seen whole cheerleading teams here perform a routine before seeing Bring It On (I own that movie it RULES). I've seen people beat dance dance revolution while screaming obscenities at them. I've tried that vendor across the way from the Regal 18 popcorn stand. Its ok. I've seen one space go through 5 different stores. I've been to the Hooters and recognized the waitresses from class. I've been to the Ruby Tuesdays and embarrassed myself thoroughly. I remember the Hoyts 12, which eventually became a great place to catch up on second run movies for cheaper, its still the nicest non-stadium seating theater I've been to. The amount of mullets I've seen accosting their wives or husbands in the parking lot by Best Buy rivals the Super Wal-Mart in Clifton Park. If I'm home for the holidays I don't do my shopping anywhere else, because you'll find anything you are looking for here. Its really big and has a lot of variety to it, better than most malls, and it has a crowd that's ripe for picking at. When Latham Circle caved in when I was really young and became a shithole, this was the mall growing up where we used to go after school and just bum around for a bit and eat at the Taco Bell or Wendy's. They used to have Harry's sandwiches there, but no more. Their arcade was once expansive as well. I remember when it was half its size. I remember when teens could go there whenever and not be stopped by silly rules (why bar the biggest mall demographic that is able to drive from being in there unsupervised after what is it now, 6pm?). I hate malls. I really do; living in New York makes you hate them even more. But its a great meeting place, great place to shop, the 2 levels really helps crowd control, everything is tacky, and well its a good place to go back to and be like wow, I was that kid years ago. Its a temporal mark of how I've grown. Oh and I'm sorry about walking out with wet floor signs from Lord and Taylors. They're in Chris Cabin's garage if you ever need them back. read more

Oh Crossgates. Don't get me wrong, I really do enjoy some of your stores. You have an American Eagle, a J.Crew and a H&M. Other than that, you're not really offering that much. It's a large mall.. but all of the stores are national chains, and are a dime a dozen. Also, I get such a sense of dread upon entering Crossgates that I'd rather drive over to the Berkshire mall (or Colonie). I agree with the other reviewers and say that the vendors are awful. If I wanted hair straightening tools or a T-mobile phone, I'd walk up to your kiosk. If I'm walking past you with my head down, I probably don't want to be bothered. read more

Must be the biggest mall I've been to. This place made me feel like I was in a city. Not that Albany isn't a city. It was just very deserted the day I visited. It was quite a transformation being in the mall. Plenty of people bustling around at every corner. This mall has all the stores I usually go to. I don't think I've even completed my walk around the entire place. The Forever21 was humungous! It was a department store unto its own. I've never seen anything like it. And I'm a city girl. I started getting a headache, and admittedly a little lost, after looking around for 15 minutes. The food court was small given how big the mall was. Food seemed cheap, but I didn't try. Use Colonie Mall if possible. I mostly go to Crossgates for Bestbuy when I can't wait for mail order delivery or Crossgates is playing a movie I can't see elsewhere. It's a big mall with lots of low quality merchandise, food and customers. The Macy's at Colonie even has a better selection than the Macy's in Crossgates. I would say Crossgates has superior ass watching to Colonie Mall if that's your sort of thing to do in a mall. read more

Biggest Mall in the Whatever. Maybe it's the biggest in New York, maybe the whole northeast. Who knows, but it is huge. It takes 15 minutes to walk from one end to the other, and that doesn't take into account a few short offshoots. Add on the top level, and if you want to just see all the stores here, count on it taking longer than a half hour. Your usual junk is there, the usual crappy food, the Gap / Old Navy / Banana Republic corner. The place is usually pretty clean, no riff-raff as Mom would say. And they've got an Apple store. And two Orange Juliuses. Those are worth the trip alone. The prices might not be the best, but if you want it, it's here. Somewhere. EDIT: Crossgates has just banned teenagers from their mall if they don't have parents with them. It's too bad I can't give more than five stars! Good job, Crossgates! read more

Freshman year in college, this place was a hang out when my friends and I couldn't find free alcohol. Oh good times.... Crossgates is the largest mall in the Albany region. Its competitor is the Colonie Center, only a few exits away off of highway 87. The difference between the two is that Colonie Center has Sephora, Cheesecake and PF Changs. Crossgates may have more restaurants built inside the mall, but I prefer the former. I give Crossgates the 5 star because it is the only place I went to for shopping. And you would have found me shopping at H&M and Forever21. read more

For a small city like Albany, this mall is humungo! It has something for everyone, from the low-end shops like H&M to the high-end stores like Coach. This is a shopper's haven (especially young women)! There are several restaurants where shoppers can dine at other than the typical food court selections. There's even a movie theatre inside the mall that has a large menu of theatre foods, and video games to play. A good-size gym is in the mall too, and it's hardly ever crowded. One little negative about this mall is that its too huge - you may have to walk all the way to the other end of the mall to get to a store. So you have to kinda plan your shopping visit strategically. Parking is also difficult at times so shoppers beware. read more

I have stopped several times over the years here while driving the road from Montreal to New York City or vice versa. It is extremely easy to get here while driving south bound has you just keep driving to the end of the "Northway" and you end up here! It's practical as you can grab a coffee, hit the restroom and get an accessory from the Apple Store or Best Buy. There is a good choice of other shops if you feel so incline. Not the best place to stop however if you look for fine food. read more

Some people like indoor shopping malls and some don't. I like going to the good ones every now and again. The shopping and restaurant options in this mall are pretty good and the atmosphere is actually relatively enjoyable. It is a two-level facility with several notable names throughout such as Best Buy, Pottery Barn, Old Navy, Gap and Dick's Sporting Goods. JC Penney's, Lord and Taylor's and Macy's are the anchors. Opened in 1984, it is not as old as some malls having just past its 30th anniversary not long ago. It is quite sizable with over 250 stores and about 1.7 million square feet of retail space. For its size, the layout is actually pleasantly manageable. The facility is well kept creating a very nice ambiance in which to spend time. The food court is nice and the restaurant choices are reasonably good as well. As far as conventional-style malls are concerned, this one is certainly above average. read more

Malls are never entirely pleasant ordeals. Crossgates at one point was the biggest mall in New York state or some other dubious honor. There was even the story of the controversial t-shirt, and the breast feeding sit-ins. What's more they've had problems with "da youth" since when youre living upstate, there is really no place else for kids to go. I get here on occasion to go to the movies. The theaters are decent, but I like Colonie ones better. That said there are also a lot of stores, and the food court usually has some free samples being passed out. Go for it! read more

I haven't been to this mall in over ten years, since I moved to the west coast, and I must admit this place looks 100x's better than it used too!! There are lots of new high end stores, a few new lounge/bar entertainment spots and overall I was pretty impressed with what I saw!! Considering this is smallbany... It gets crowded, and it gets hot in there - but all in all, I love Crossgates. I'm not used to having a variety of stores to shop at being from Southeastern Ohio/West Virginia and all, so I'm always delighted when I stroll around Crossgates. Although H&M can get a tad messy and the bathrooms aren't the cleanest (it's always incredibly busy), I still dig the shopping experience. I went into the AT&T store with my teenage son to get some help with our new phones that were purchased from a different AT&T store. Jason waited on us and was so accommodating. He didn't rush us, was very thorough and helpful. I will definitely seek him out and recommend him to any person who is interested in a new phone, AT&T tv, or accessories. This mall is so 1980s, but just before I left the Capital Area I grew to find it oddly comforting. As a poor grad student, I found solace in student discounts, people watching, and the theater. We like this place. Perfect in size this mall caters to everyone's shopping interests. From fashionable clothing stores to various entertainment outlets with Best Buy as one of its anchors you can easily lose yourself here on a weekend afternoon. Families - if they so desire - can follow their interest then meet later for a meal at the various dining venues or take in a movie. Plenty of options here. Easily accessible off a main highway. Parking is plentiful and free (apparently this latest mall thievery hasn't hit Albany yet). With Crossgates Mall's comfortable layout stores can be located quickly. A nice enormous size mall, which means there's a variety of shops to shop in. This means lots of shoppers and mall cops. Got stopped because I looked younger than eighteen and apparently there are hours where kids cannot walk around by themselves. Overall, I wouldn't shop here unless there's something important I need to get. Everything in this mall specifically is about 5% more expensive than everywhere else. For example, the taco bell's $5 box is not $5 dollars, it's actually more than $6. Yes, one of the nicest, big malls in the state, but you'll pay extra for it shopping here. read more

This mall has everything. Movies, Dave and Busters, high end shopping and under $5 shopping. Variety of food in the courtyard and has some restaurants. We tried Ruby Tuesdays but there was no host to seat us so we left. The mall is clean, bright and I highly recommend this mall. I love this mall. It's enormous, has terrific stores, and provides a great shopping experience for the residents of the Capital Region. It has a great movie theatre that's clean and not sketchy, and the stores are awesome. The shopping is wonderful, particularly for the area. I wish I lived closer to Albany so that I could make this mall my regular shopping destination. Unlike the Westchester - which I do love - Crossgates is a nice, normal mall that caters to normal people and not just to those that drive an Audi. A great shopping experience. read more

Crossgate Mall security needs to learn some manners! Learn it quickly! They can do their job but do it with courtesy! Unless they are racist who discriminate against non-whites. I call the mall office and they transferred me to their security office. Security desk refused to deal with my complaint and put me into a hold which lasted for minutes. With such attitudes, all of the security officers needs to learn some manners before the ACLU brings them on charges for racial profiling and harassment. In addition, they don't wear name tags or identify themselves, if they don't have name tags. Is Albany back in the 1950's! Wake up! I am calling Crossgate Management on Tuesday to officially blast them for their guards rude behavior in the 21st century! Don't get me wrong, doing their job is one thing! I bought a $2000 laptop from here, plus a $350 warranty. The thing was a piece of crap with a ton of bugs. (Don't Buy the Lenovo Yoga laptop if you're an artist who's trying out digital art, it's no better than the surface pro, and it's 4 times the price for!) I tried to return it, brand new in the box with the receipt and everything that came with it, and they wouldn't let me. They told me the time for returning it had expired, which was true, but I guess I assumed since the computer was brand new and still in the box, they might make an exception. They offered to exchange it for a $120 gift card. yes, you read that right, they offered me a $120 gift card for a $2350 purchase. Also, it is IMPOSSIBLE to get in touch with anyone at this store over the phone. I scheduled an appointment at Geek Squad, and the morning I was scheduled, I tried to call them to let them know I might be 10 or 15 minutes late. and to ask if I should bother coming at all or just schedule a new appointment some other time. I called 3 times, and every time, once i finally got past the automated system, the phone would just ring for ~10 minutes, then hang up. Of course this whole ordeal took me over a an half hour so I gave up on my appointment. While I'm complaining, I also want to say a few things about Best Buy's website and Customer Service number even though these complaints have more to do with Best Buy as a company than the specific store at crossgates. my charger broke, so I called the customer service number to see if the charger was covered under my warranty. Pretty simple question right? NOBODY could tell me. I literally spent OVER AN HOUR getting transferred from department to department, explaining my situation over and over as clearly as possible, and getting put on hold before I finally just gave up. I tried to use their chat option online but I'm pretty sure it was a bot, not a real person. Although i gave her all my information and stated the question very clearly, "she" gave me many completely unintelligible answers. Finally she told me didn't "know anything about that" and told me I would have to go to the store. This whole interaction also took over an hour. I also want to stress that I've worked in customer service so I know how hard it as, and I'm always very nice and very clear when I talk to customer service representatives. I usually don't write bad reviews, or reviews at all. But best buy wasted so much of my time and money I felt like I couldn't just do nothing. TLDR: BEST BUY DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS. "GEEK SQUAD" IS BULLSHIT. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY WITH THIS STORE. read more

We were in area and decided to check out this mall. Around the main entrance has a transportation hub for buses to park for dropping and picking up riders. It has the usual stores including Macy's, JC Penny and Dicks. It also has a Dave and Buster's right inside the mall. They have plenty of parking and it was not too crowded. One night we were trying to get dinner and decided to try to the food court. The typical mall sections like Wendy's, Charlie's, and Sabarro. When trying to figure out where we were going to eat we walked past Cajun Cafe and was bombarded by two staff members. One who gave us a sample then the other telling us to get in the line. We then walked to the other Asian Chow place with the same result. Needless to say we did not eat there as they were too pushy. If you go to the food court watch out for them stalking you. I tried to avoid them when I purchased other food items and felt very unconformable at the food court. Overall, the mall was okay if you need to go shopping or hang out just watch out for the food court people. read more

Im not a mall rat so I really dont like going to any mall. But as far as malls go its a good one. Has everything all malls have. I know the area well so i park as close as possible to where i want to go, get in, and then get out. I avoid the area all together during the holidays because parking is horrible and the roadways never planned on having that much traffic... ever. Not a fan. Directories are not helpful --can't search by type of store only by alpha so if you don't know what store you want you have to scroll through them all. Stores were closed on Labor Day, a day many people can actually take off to shop. Lots of strong smells coming out of stores make the walk and shopping experience unpleasant. Crossgates is definitely my get away during the winter months and my place for retail therapy. Parking near an entrance to the mall is never an issue between the 3 entries at Macy's alone, doesn't even cover a dent in 20+ entrances to the facility. Don't get me wrong, the holiday season can be packed but finding a spot to park isn't that bad. Even the amount of handicap spots are scattered out fairly. Before even entering the mall, you may notice the amount of smokers is low due to crossgates being a smoke free property. The mall security is properly dispatch at different wings of the mall during morning and evening hours, willing to assist anyone. Shopping at a variety of stores at crossgates never disappoints. Unlike other malls which seem to be filled with just gift and clothing shops, cross gates expands from the average mall. Crossgates allows you to shop for kitchen appliances, toys, sporting goods, furniture ,clothing, jewelry and electronics. Crossgates unfortunately does have a few flaws like any where else. The regal movie theater for the past 10 years has always given me an issue with how loud people are. Sure, this happens at a lot of theaters but the crowd is always unpleasant. You can laugh and cry at certain times but please be consider others that have mannerisms. I truly love the stores but lacking a bookstore upsets me after the closing of borders, I love my ereader but having to drive 15 minutes to a Barnes noble at Colonie Center is a hassle most of the time between Central ave and Wolf road. Overall, Crossgates is a great place to check out in Albany especially staying on a long business trip at the capital or taking the family out during cold days. read more

I stayed at the Tru Hotel across the parking lot, and found the the mall is a good place for meals and walk around. One side of the mall seems to have independent named stores while the name brands were located on the other end. The signs could have been better, as it will not clear where the food court was. Typical suburban mall... nothing special, but nothing terrible. read more

I've watched Crossgates Mall grow for more than 30 years, and since its controversial beginnings as a wrecker of the pine bush it continues to remake itself. Although grand illusions of being a *destination* like Mall of America gradually deflated, the mall remains a viable source of goods and services for the region. A natural haven for all the things that make us conformist$ to the chain retail outlets of the American Way, the Mall also fosters local businesses like Happy Cappuccino. I'd like to see more and more development in this direction. As someone who's boycotted then been drawn back by the Apple store I've had mixed feelings, but it has stayed through thick and thin. read more
