Great local business if you love hot chicken. I've been wanting to try this place out for ages, but it's so specific (only chicken!) that I usually cannot convince my family to go. But today, I decided to do a Costco run and forego their food court, and try out Crossroad Hot Chicken by myself. I ordered online before heading over. Super easy. Food was ready 5 minutes before I got there and packed up well. I got the 3 piece chicken tenders, x-hot, with a side of the greens. The tenders were more like half a chicken breast each. Huge. Very succulent chicken, not dry at all. They were crispy and very spicy. I'm part Thai. After a few bites, I was wishing that I had ordered the mac and cheese instead to help offset the spice, but I persevered. The greens were good, very smoky tasting, but they were overwhelmed by the spicy chicken, so I only recommend them if you get the mild or medium chicken. Really nice staff at the restaurant. Tried this for the first time, even though I'm not a hot chicken fan but my hubby is. When you go thru Yelp, it has a link for their website / online ordering. What I really liked about their app is that it is simple to use, no fuss. They don't have a huge menu but their options are easy to pick. I included some pics in my review. They have quite a few payment options, very convenient. Our 5:30pm order was ready as soon as 15min! When we arrived to pickup, parking was plentiful and the inside was clean. The back of the small restaurant is where the pickup counter is. We have our name and was out in 30seconds, wow, great fast service and with a smile. Now for the food review. The chicken meat portions on the sandwiches are huge, like 2 chicken breast. The breading and crispness was good, had flavor. The actual bun with slaw was a bit lack luster. The mild was a true mild as it should be, almost touching hot but not. My hubby's hot sandwich was also true to heat level... so we were both pretty glad about that. The Mac and cheese, so so cheesy! I do think that for $3 though I should have received a little more. I will say the flavor was a little on the light side though, but that cheesiness definitely was welcome to combat the hot chicken. I'd rate it a 4 outta 5. So for the hot chicken alone, magic answer to that first time visit question if we'd return?... maybe. If hubby is in the mood he said he'd come back. The menu is super simple but sometimes that's good Hot chicken sandwich- mild level is totally tolerable! The slightest bit of heat in my opinion, I usually get medium so that'll be next time. My husband usually gets hot but said he'd do extra hot or their own "Tampa hot" next time. Basically we both could handle a level up so don't worry, not as killer as they make it seem. The flavor profile though was delicious. The hot cross sauce- delicious! Like something I never had before and actually a hint of sweetness. White bbq- hard to describe but def not bbq like at all. I love Hot Chicken. I don't make it to the Brandon area very often, but had to go for work today. I had done some research on Yelp for places nearby to eat... and decided Crossroads sounds good. Kind of hard find... they have no signage visible from the road or the parking lot. But once you park and go up to the enclosed walkway, there it is! Walked in, ordered at the counter, told them to holler when it was ready since I am a little (a lot) hard of hearing. I also sat close to the counter, and saw when the cook set it out. Started to get up... but the gentleman at the counter just waved me down, and brought it to me. Good service! Sandwich was served in kind of deep box, which was not the easiest thing to get the sandwich out of without losing some of the parts and pieces. I did have to put one of the two tenders back in the bun. Also make it difficult to get a good picture for YELP, lol! I ordered HOT.. and yep, it had a nice bite. Chicken was tender and juicy, crust was crunchy, and tasty. It did not appear to have the normal spiced oil treatment that good hot chicken gets though... was not oily, greasy goodness I prefer... but probably healthier for that. Lemme just say, I've eaten a lot of chicken in my life. Not many places have ever stopped me in my tracks, but crossroads hot chicken? Yea, definitely the best I've had. Super flavorful, and the in house made sauces are Bangin! Vincent at the register was really helpful explaining the menu the first time I went and he's been very friendly every time since then. Today for lunch, I took my office for some Nashville hot chicken at Crossroads. Everyone enjoyed it. We headed over to Crossroads for lunch today. We had a hard time finding the place as it is tucked away in the corner of a place, but once inside, we knew what we were after. We all debated what level of heat were were after. I settled on hot and that was ideal for me. My coworkers ordered a mix of hot and extra hot. You can order piece of chicken, sandwiches, or tenders. They are served with chips and they have some unique sides. I went with corn ribs. After our order was placed, we grabbed a big table and the food started to come out. Everyone's food looked great and smelled spicy. We all took our first bite and there was nothing but smiles around the table. The heat from the spice was noticable, but the sweet slaw and sauce tamed it a bit. The chicken was perfectly crispy while moist inside. The sandwich was really good. The corn ribs were very unique. I think they were deep fried, coated in butter, and then dusted in parmesan cheese. I shared them with the table and again, I saw nothing but smiles. Overall, we really enjoyed our visit to Crossroads Hot Chicken. The food was exceptional, service was friendly, and we got in and out in good time. I like this new Nashville hot chicken place. The logo is two cross bone of the drum stick. It look nice. I snap a picture of myself with the real cross bone. The menu is really simple. One page menu with few word that said it all. We got two orders of two pieces dark meat fried chicken with hot and mild. It is got hot for the chicken. I did not go for the the crazy hot. I was very pleased. I went with the chicken sandwich as it comes with hot sauce and there house made blue cheese on the side. It was the perfect amount of heat. I thought I had tried great fried chicken before, but this is on another level. Crossroad Hot Chicken has the best fried chicken I have ever had. I've ordered the "hot" chicken breast and wing two times now, and I'm convinced there is no other fried chicken that compares to this. The "hot" was spicier than what most restaurants would label "hot," so you should take that into consideration when ordering. My wife ordered the "mild" and she said that even that was spicy for her. If you like spicy food, "hot" may be perfect for you, although they also offer "extra hot" and "crazy hot" which I have yet to try. If you don't like spice, they offer "naked." For a side I chose the corn ribs. They are awesome and have changed the way I think about eating corn on the cob. They're a perfect side for fried chicken. I have also tried their mac salad which was good but not my favorite. I was really hyped to try this place out. I heard so many good things from other people, so I had to come grab a bite after work. I was sorely disappointed. I really wish I wasn't. The chicken was very tender and crunchy but my main problem was with the taste. I could not taste a single flavor over the coleslaw that the sandwich comes with. The only thing I tasted was heat, but no actual flavor. Plus, the mac and cheese I got was a premium side (+$3) and it tasted like melted American cheese slices, but that was better than the sandwich. I came here looking for good southern fried chicken. I didn't like how you have to order a wing / breast or thigh / leg combo. Otherwise it's strips. You can't just have wings and thighs. I ordered the fried strips. They tasted over-cooked and were very salty. Tried the corn ribs and potato wedges. Again, too much salt. The wedges tasted like the breading on the strips. I ordered the chicken sandwich in mild and it was not spicy at all. I think I would go for hot next time. The toppings and bun complimented the tenders inside. The tenders were more in a dry rub than sauce, however the chicken was super tender and juicy. The sandwich came with a bag of chips (Lays) and I asked if I could sub mac n cheese but they said I couldn't so I ordered a side. The mac n cheese was good but mostly liquid than noodle. I was tossed between giving a 4 or 5 star review. I say that because there were just a few things that I feel should be said. The sides are definitely small for what they are charging. You do get a choice of coleslaw or macaroni salad that automatically comes with your basket of chicken. You can also substitute your free side with one of their premium sides for an extra $1. It's $3 for each additional side. The sauces are $1.50 each. It's a standard sauce container, and thankfully not as small as the ones they give you at Tijuana Flats. You can definitely ask for more sauce if you need it. They will give you more. I just thought it was odd that a choice of sauce doesn't come with the chicken strip basket, or at least it doesn't reflect that on the menu. It should automatically come with that option. Also, the meal comes in eco-friendly paper containers whether you dine in or take it to-go. This wasn't the most comfortable way to eat our meals at the restaurant. I would have expected an actual basket or even a metal tray. You know, similar to what you would get your hot chicken served on in one of the popular restaurants in Nashville. I just didn't enjoy eating my food out of a box. Sorry, I just had to get all of my gripes out of the way. Hopefully this will change later as the business grows. With all of that said, the food is absolutely delicious. I haven't had hot chicken this good since eating it in Nashville. We each got the breast & wing basket. The chicken was fried perfectly, and was crispy on the outside. The breast of chicken was juicy on the inside. It was not dried out. The seasoning was perfect. I was able to tolerate the mild, which is a good thing. I could barely tolerate the mild heat level when I had hot chicken in Nashville. I honestly can't wait to try the medium heat level next time just to see if I can tolerate it. That cayenne pepper flavor was there which is very important. It's not about the burn for most people. Well, at least not for me and my husband. My husband got the Extra Hot heat level which was plenty hot for him. He has a very high tolerance to hot peppers. I can't even imagine what the Crazy Hot is like. I'm pretty sure my husband will try it eventually. The chicken is served on top of a slice of bread with what I believe were house made pickles. The mac salad was actually pretty good. We got corn ribs as an extra side. They were also delicious, but it was a small portion. You know... like the Green Giant mini corn cob size but cut up into ribs. They season it with spices and that white BBQ sauce. That sauce is so awesome! I'm glad I got some of that sauce on the side even though it was an additional charge. I dipped the hot chicken into it. It made it even more flavorful. There was also a Bevi water machine. You get to select still or sparkling water and any of the 4 flavors. You can also select the flavor strength. Yep, water is good with hot chicken. I'm sure that they will eventually bring in more beverages as the business grows. They had some refrigerated drink selections too. We're definitely going back. We really needed a Nashville hot chicken place in the area. I'm so glad they are here. The wall mural is very cool. The restaurant is clean. Just West of Falkenberg off the crosstown, in a little strip mall with a few eateries and a couple of bars you'll find the best hot chicken in the Tampa area. I stopped off on the way home from work and nearly drove by the place. In a hole-in-the-wall that's little bigger than my living room, Crossroad Hot Chicken's unpretentious menu offers one protein, a couple sides and drinks. They're laser focused on chicken and your only option is how hot. Hot ranges from Naked to Crazy Hot, and even though I'm a chili-head, I ordered the hot--just wanted to try their "normal." I walked in around 4pm and the service was excellent and the place sparkled--definitely not your typical greasy-but-good chicken place. They spice to order with a dry pepper mixture and you can watch them prepare your order from the register. With a warning that you can always make it hotter, but you can't make it less spicy, my hot spice hit the sweet spot--though I'll try the next two levels next couple of times. Went here on a Thursday afternoon to pick up some lunch for the family and try this place out after reading the reviews! Interior has some picnic tables for seating, but is clearly a take-out spot. Ordered two half-chicken meals (medium heat) and a 3-piece tender meal (hot) to-go, various sides and all. One of the chefs said it would be at least a 20 minute wait for the whole thing, and I said it was fine. Food was finished about 35-40 minutes later. I didn't mind, but do with that what you will. I will say the half-chickens were delicious! A bit of sweet, some heat in the background, breading was crisp and the chicken was still moist. The tenders were just as good, but the jump in spice between medium and hot was HUGE! They do NOT skimp on the heat here! The sides were all good, coleslaw, collard greens, mac salad, and corn ribs, but i think might've suffered waiting on the chicken. The fried chickens were cooked upon order- very fresh. The chicken meat was tender and juicy. Even though they were not gigantic size. Coating was not the crunchy type, and it was quite flavorful.
