Shah's Halal Food opened a location in Lowell on Mammoth Road, in the former Chen's Kitchen space…read morenext door to 7-Eleven. This Long Island NY based Halal chain has been expanding from the Tri State area into New England. There are also plenty of competing Halal food trucks in NYC. The space was remodeled which is an order at the counter place with lighted menu screens and indoor table seating. They also offer online ordering and DoorDash delivery. They offer platters, salads, gyros, cheese steak subs, burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries, chicken nuggets & wings, baklava, and drinks in the cooler. The pricing seems fair. On my way back home, I stopped by Shah's Halal Food Lowell for takeout. I placed my online pickup order through DoorDash since I had credits. I ordered the Beef Chapli & Chips Platter ($11.99 plus tax) and Assorted Baklava ($3.49 plus tax). My online order was all set to go in about 13 minutes. The platter had soft seasoned ground beef kabobs, thin pakora chips, served over soft basmati rice and a mix green salad with creamy white sauce plus the optional hot sauces too. The platter had good savory and spicy flavors. The prepackaged assorted baklava was a good sweet treat for the after meal. I would definitely stop by again for more Halal takeout. I can already sense that Shah's could be expanding into NH, since the demand for Halal food is there. This Lowell branch is about 10 minutes to NH on Mammoth Road.

They had more sauce variety than other places but I went with the typical white sauce and spicy. The rice was good, but the color was just not vibrant yellow like im use to but don't let that scare you. The meats are all precooked and just sits in a heating tray, so the food wasn't super hot. Overall not terrible, one upside is that they're open until 1 or 2 am on weekends.

Unfortunately, Santoro's steak and cheese subs are not as good as they used to be…read more Santoro's sub shop has changed owners several years ago. While I was in town I got a steak and cheese and I was very dissatisfied with it. The steak was so finely ground, it was like shredded cheese. The taste wasn't bad but they also put very little condiments underneath the steak and cheese. The following night, I went to Market Basket grocery store and purchased their steak and cheese sub that tasted so much better, for half the price. ($5.99) Hopefully the other items on their menu aren't as bad. I'm not sure and I may not waste my money to find out.

Sad to say I have been ordering from here for years. Always enjoyed the food and the quick service…read more Had a small issue with the order, so I called. After speaking with the manager, I can say my business is done with them. The food was made incorrectly, and I offered to show them proof clearly listed in the order history. He answered with, I can send me pictures on how his systemprinted the order. Obviously something is not working corectly. I can see if I made the mistake, however that was not what happened. Easiest fix, so simple ! They showed on the receipt (taped to the sub) steak and cheese with no cheese add banana peppers. Please look at the photos to see if this says anywhere at all..... no cheese?!?!?. Was very rude and extremely poor with customer service. After being spoken to in such a way I decided to let them know I'm going to take my business elsewhere moving forward. The managers answer to that was go ahead no problem have a good day and hung up. We have been ordering from them for years 150-250 a month easily if not more. I guess they dont need the business from us no more, than manager made that clearly understood.

As this is Latinx heritage month, seems like a perfect time to finally check them out. This is a tiny little store front. Most of the building is taken up by kitchen and storage. There are 2 two-tops and 1 four-top table for dining-in. Tables are very nice and the area was clean. An open kitchen over looks the dining area. A cashier stand, where you order, is to the left of the entrance. Menu boards are located on the wall above the open kitchen. A cooler across from the cashier holds bottled soda, water and tea. The cashier was super personable and answered a couple of silly questions from me. (I always have questions. So many questions!) I had to try the empanadas of course and they offer several varieties. My SO got himself a pepperoni pizza. We both grabbed bottled soda. We had an opportunity to chat a little with the cook too who is also very nice. A parton who is clearly known to the staff came in and had a long, friendly chat with staff while we ate. Just before we left some high school students came in. This is absolutely a neighborhood spot. The pastry on my empanada is very good. Flakey, thin, holds together well. I would have preferred less pastry for the amount of filling. Most bites were air. The ground beef was seasoned well enough but I think I was looking for more spice and maybe a little heat. Still, it was enjoyable. The vegetable empanada was bell peppers, onions and mushrooms with a little bit of cheese. Same result. I was looking for more filling, spice and heat. Don't get me wrong. They are good. I did enjoy them. And for all I know, this is the way abuela makes them. Everyone has their own preferences. This is just me. Take it as you will. My SO enjoyed his pizza. That's all I got from him. Sorry I can't elaborate. This is a small store front right off a neighborhood. On street parking is free. You may have to walk a bit from your parking spot, but as mentioned, this is really a neighborhood spot the locals frequent. There does not appear to be a public restroom inside. I didn't ask. Staff were lovely. Food is good.
