The gentleman who prepared my sandwiches was welcoming and warm. He took time to construct beautiful sandwiches with the perfect amount of ingredients. I also ordered a taro smoothie. It was delicious and extra taro-y. The gentleman asked me if I've tried fresh taro before. I haven't. He told me next time I should try their fresh taro smoothie. My SO got himself a pepperoni pizza. We both grabbed bottled soda. We had an opportunity to chat a little with the cook too who is also very nice. A parton who is clearly known to the staff came in and had a long, friendly chat with staff while we ate. Just before we left some high school students came in. This is absolutely a neighborhood spot. The pastry on my empanada is very good. Flakey, thin, holds together well. I would have preferred less pastry for the amount of filling. Most bites were air. The ground beef was seasoned well enough but I think I was looking for more spice and maybe a little heat. Still, it was enjoyable. The vegetable empanada was bell peppers, onions and mushrooms with a little bit of cheese. Same result. I was looking for more filling, spice and heat. Don't get me wrong. They are good. I did enjoy them. And for all I know, this is the way abuela makes them. Everyone has their own preferences. This is just me. Take it as you will. My SO enjoyed his pizza. That's all I got from him. The best thing to happen to this restaurant was the take over by Angelina's. I have been ordering for years as well as my husband has. He always get the chunk style steak and cheese for the past 30 years. Recently we ordered after the take over, he noticed a BIG difference in the quality of the sub. He likes it better now than how Santoro's did them. I recently ordered the BLT sub which really did suck but now it is the BEST! Same with the Chicken Tender sub. Also BIG KUDOS for the prices and the quality. Not many sub shops left where you can order 3 quality large subs and a large fry and FEED 3 PEOPLE with fries left over for under $30!!! Ive have good luck with take out until this was delivered from Santos's in Lowell Burnt hot dog dried up and 1 piece of cheese in the grilled cheese sandwich? When i called them the guy was a complete ass about it. And im not a kind person when im pissed. Needless to say i won't be ordering from there again and they wont be delivering to me.
