Brought lunch to my fiancé during his break and he asked if I wanted to get something to drink, so he brought me to Cafe 12 for me to try. Really cute blackboard menu and intriguing items. I decided to try the white sangria iced tea, as I actually love sangria, and I'd say it's not bad at all! Really refreshing. He got the Power smoothie and it felt really energizing, tasted like a healthy version of Trix yogurt. One sip blasted me away LOL. Stopped in today for a quick lunch; had the Honey Bee sandwich on incredibly fresh multi grain bread. Tons of meat!! Had the Orange Rosemary cookie as a treat after. Cute inside...there are elevated table tops but no seating for them. There is seating inside and is decorated cutely. Recommend reaching out to area photographers and replace decor with local artwork for sale/display. We will be back to try the beignets! They do take Apple Pay. read more

Fast, fresh, decent under seasoned food. I got coffee and Avocado toast he got a simple egg and cheese on English. We were the only 2 customer s so our food came out super fast. The menu is (too) big and there was a case with baked items, hopefully good, idk. The lack of customers made us wonder how fthey sell enough to keep all the ingredients fresh. But it was fine. For the price you're paying here (a bit on the expensive side), you'll get a little bit of the Boston food experience in the town of Chelmsford. Inside there are colorful, fun decors all around the cafe. It's very inviting. It's a cute little breakfast/lunch/dessert spot with a unique twist. Apple Streusel Pancakes- Delish! The pancake was light and fluffy and the apple crisp was the perfect topping. Bacon Waffle "Bene"- The sauce kind of threw us off. It was supposed to be a maple hollandaise but it tasted like gravy. It's a bit murky. Crognet- I'm not sure how long it was sitting there on display but it was slightly on the stale side so we popped it in the microwave for a few second when we got back and it was okay. Sugary. Chai Tea Latte (Hot)- Very good. Cinnamon spiced goodness. Overall Service: The gals behind the cashier was adorable and friendly. The manager however had her work station set up on a table right next to us which felt a bit awkward because she was just standing there. Saturday morning - bright sunny day after 5 days of blah weather. Place is jumping. Takes about 5 mins to get thru the line (ordering takeout). Modern interior with 3 tall chairs at a window bar and 5-6 tables. While it is small inside it doesn't feel cramped. Nice selection of both standard and kicked up breakfast / lunch fare Beignets! Pickup service is fast (I've never waited more than 15 minutes when calling in an order) and the people are nice! We arrived a little before 10 AM and there was a couple finishing up their meal. The breakfast and lunch menu was written in chalk on the black board but of course I already knew what I wanted from stalking their new website, their Facebook and their Yelp page. There was a display case with cupcakes, brownies, macaroons and other assorted pastries. We were sold and got a few desserts to go. We placed and paid for our order at the counter and found a table. The restaurant has just cleared out so we had it all to ourselves. The cafe is kinda set up like a self serve where you can grab your own condiments and tap water. You also return the dishes to the bin, Panera style. The food took less than 5 minutes from the time we ordered until it was brought to our table. We split a few different things. All the dishes were beautifully presented with fruit garnishes on an aqua dish. I felt like I was at a cool brunch eatery in the city! The first dish was the Bacon Waffle "Bene" which had 2 poached eggs, bacon and maple hollandaise sauce over a bacon Belgian waffle. The dish was served with home fries. Although I had to request an extra side of hollandaise sauce, the dish was amazing! Usually I have my waffles with sweet topping like I do at Chip's but the salty contrast from the bacon was a nice change. The home fries were made with white and red skin potatoes and had a perfect crisp from the pan sear. The waffle monte cristo was not on their regular breakfast menu but I made a special request for it since I saw it previously posted on ther FB page as a special. They were able to accommodate our request. The waffle "bread" held together the Dietz and Watson ham and gooey cheese and was served with maple syrup. The dish had a nice sweet and salty contrast. Of course we had to get the beignets! Beginets are delicious deep fried French pastries usually served with powered sugar. It's a breakfast staple in New Orleans. Each order came with 3 large pieces and was served with your choice of dipping sauce. Chocolate, honey and caramel was available when we visited. If you wanted to try more than once sauce, you could do so for an extra .50 cents. The beignets were indeed piping hot when brought to our table in a cute fryer basket display. They were such a guilty pleasure. The dough was soft as I pulled it apart with my fingers. The powder made a mess on the plates and my shirt but I didn't care. I was in heaven. We loved everything we ordered. I admit the meal was a bit on the heavier side. Scrumptious! We ordered breakfast here a few weeks ago upon moving into the neighborhood. We selected the avocado toast and a pork-heavy breakfast bowl. All the ingredients were well cooked, well seasoned, and hot. The spicy ketchup was special, and the avocado was so soft and smooth. One of the more thoughtful and high quality sandwiches you can get in town. Boars head, fresh baguette, creative menu. While I've only had lunch there, it seems to be a very trendy and well equipped unassuming food spot. If you live in the area definitely try it out. They have coffees, breakfast wraps, smoothies, salads, sandwiches and more. Wonderful spot for delicious homemade food, great coffee, and solid selection of treats. I've had both breakfast and lunch here and both haven't disappointed yet! My sandwich yesterday was on warm and soft amazing focaccia bread and all the ingredients were obviously fresh and hadn't been frozen at anytime. In regards to the comments of price vs portion size I will say that the portions I have received are perfect and are in line with what people should be eating for a normal meal size. Yes, some will view the prices as slightttllyyyy on the high side for what it is, but in exchange for that you are receiving high quality ingredients and food that has been freshly prepared, a trade-off that is well worth it. However I do not understand how people can think this is overpriced when going to a place like Panera will cost you at least the same if not more, and this is much much better. After passing by this little place a million times, my GF and I tried it yesterday for breakfast and were more than pleasantly surprised. It's a counter service restaurant with seating available. We each ordered the Wakey Bowl. The presentation was beautiful and tasted even better than it looked. The flavors and textures were perfectly balanced (although I would have liked the potatoes to be done a little more). Apparently they make fresh beignets every Saturday morning. Now, I have had beignets at Cafe Dumond in Jackson Sq New Orleans so to compare them would not be fair. That being said, Cafe 12 does a better job than most. So happy to have found this place, just wish the menu was a little more expansive but I understand why it needs to be limited due to the limited space. We stopped here for a late breakfast yesterday. I'm not much of a cupcake person, but going to a cupcake bakery and not getting a cupcake is like ordering the chicken at a steakhouse, so I went for it. The vanilla-squared cupcake I got (vanilla cake, vanilla icing. Cute.) was moist, flavorful, and not overpoweringly sweet. I also got a little almond croissant which was excellent and I wish was bigger. I AM, however, a sandwich person. I am a harsh, harsh judge of bacon, egg, and cheeses, and the one I got was perfect. The bacon was thick and meaty, the egg just runny enough, the cheese perfectly melted, the english muffin fork, rather than knife, split, and they asked if I wanted ketchup which, let me tell you, was a wonderful and unexpected surprise - getting ketchup for egg sandwiches in New England can be a fight. Great find close downtown... Menu is fresh and and fun. Food was filling and flavorful. Tried a tiramisu flavored iced coffe and enjoyed it even though it was just a flavor syrup. Would have preferred to have a fresh squeezed OJ to pair with one of the best breakfasts we have had in town, but other than that all went well. This place is really cute. For a small town like Chelmsford, it really is a treat ( pun not intended). I got their latte and note that they use pods so don't expect anything artisan-like such as latte art. But it fixes a coffee craving just fine. I got their strawberry shortcake, chocolate velvet, s'mores cupcake and a muffin. They were all really good - moist, sweet and flavourful. Service is friendly and warm. I woke up today, on my birthday, to find no dairy in the house due to my forgetfulness in grocery shopping yesterday. That makes for a poor breakfast around here. I was thinking of baking myself a cake, but decided that I didn't want a whole cake in the house, plus I don't have any cake pans, which is a serious impediment to baking a cake. Also, the aforementioned lack of dairy presents a baking problem for many recipes. So I searched around online and found that the Sugar Bake Shoppe is a new business started by a young entrepreneur that uses real butter, cream and eggs, which is how I bake. I don't eat stuff made with oil or margarine or other sub-par substitutions. It's simply not worth the calories. I decided to get some cupcakes here. I got Apple Crisp, Peanut Butter Cup, Almond Joy and Chocolate Raspberry. These cupcakes are piled high with frosting for a pretty decorative effect, but if you spread it out over the sliced open cake, it's pretty darn good, especially since it's butter, not margarine. The candy-bar named cakes had no candy in them (yay!), they were just made with ingredients that echoed the candy (chocolate and peanut butter, coconut, toasted almonds and chocolate). I probably should have gotten the plain chocolate and plain vanilla to really sample them, but... it's my birthday and I'll eat crazy flavor combinations if I want to! My husband enjoyed the Apple Crisp, which we split before he went to work... I couldn't resist and sliced the others in half to sample for the rest of my not-nutritionally-balanced breakfast. I'll have to wait until he gets home to hear what he thinks of the other ones. The cakes are not too sweet, and neither is the frosting. They are dense, rich and buttery, they are not weirdly moist the way that boxstorebought ones are, and I tend to associate that weird moistness with oil-based cakes that lack flavor and have ingredients that I think are only covered in advanced chemistry classes, so if you're expecting something that will ball up in the roof of your mouth like wonder bread and hurt your throat with overpowering sweeteners, these are not for you, just head back to the supermarket... The 4 cupcakes were $12 and change, which may seem expensive, but again, they're made by hand in small batches, with real ingredients. I think they're appropriately priced for what they are. read more

I got the rancher sandwhich which was delicious! We enjoyed everything enough to justify the added cost for sure. I have tried a few other sandwhiches on the menu and they were all equally as tasty. I stopped at this bakery this morning. I had heard about the delicious cupcakes. Generally, I do not like cake because most commercially available cakes are made from a mix which means they taste of cardboard. These cakes are the real thing. As a home baker, I know the real thing when I taste it. I was on my way to work, a 45 minute drive from Chelmsford, so I took a cupcake with me, ordered a latte and a cranberry biscotti. Both were excellent. The latte was neither bitter nor slightly-to-too sweet as a Starbucks latte can be. The biscotti was amazing. Terrific. I took home a chocolate cupcake with white frosting, a caramel glaze and a nut on top. Now, here is the real story. I left Chelmsford went to work in Worcester (taught for 3 and 1/2 hours) then drove home to the Pioneer Valley. I finally ate my cupcake at 9:00 pm, 11 hours after I bought it. It was still moist, still fresh, still delicious. In fact, I smeared the frosting a great deal trying to get the paper off the cupcake. What are these people who say the cupcakes are dry talking about? Have they lived exclusively on muffins from Stop and Shop which are greasily moist and taste of cardboard? i might raise the rating after trying a few more flavors. Who knows but as you can see from my narrative, this bakery is not exactly next door. BTW, why do grocery stores continue to sell their sub-par baked goods? They're just awful! read more

This is a hard review to write. On one hand, this place is full of potential. It looks like it offers quite a variety of breakfast and lunch nibbles and treats, while keeping a modern/quaint little vibe. On the other hand, the portion sizes, prices, and overall quality control of the offerings haven't met my expectations. This is my third time at Cafe 12, and it was fairly busy. We ordered the starter, a breakfast sandwich, and some other stuff. Overall, the seasoning was veeeeerrry lackluster. The homefries were cooked well, but they lacked serious flavor (try more onion, garlic and/or salt and pepper). Ketchup was the only thing adding flavor. The breakfast sandwich had no cheese on it (yes, it was supposed to) and the frittata wasn't warm. For the money, it just doesn't deliver. This was the theme much like the last time we ate here (the lemon ricotta pancakes were fairly bland). For beverages, we opted for flavored coffees and for the cup size, there was an INSANE amount of sweetness added. We actually had to dump out half and fill it with normal coffee. Please cut down the flavor shot pumps to like...half of what you use. It is a shame, because we really like the vibe, the people seem nice, but the product just doesn't live up to the environment. Cupcakes worth living for, try the Pumpkin Head "brewed" with Pumpkin Head beer, topped with a sweet cream cheese frosting, dusted with cinnamon sugar. Delicious. Get the cupcake card, every 12 bought you get a free one. New flavors every day they post on their FB page. They also serve light breakfast and lunch, sandwiches and such. I'm using my wife's account again. I have been wanting to go to Cafe 12 for 6 months it's a 5 mins drive from my church and it seems like a amazing place to talk the verses over and grab some good made from starch breakfast. As you walk in you see a help wanted sign for cook and maybe some other position. Cafe 12 has a great decor it's small but not too small and is very colorful. When you walk in your hit by a colorful display of baked goods and from what I can tell is the claim to fame the-cupcakes. You order from the black board, pay and take a seat. (Kinda odd to pay 1st) The waffles my 4 year old daughter got were the best part although she ate all that was served to her she was still hungry. My egg sandwich that was not cooked to my liking was tiny: one egg fried dry one slice of tomato cut thin, 2 pieces of onion, a few red peppers and finally a HALF slice D&W cheese all housed on a dry english muffin. Made me sad. My wife's sandwich was a ok size and the extra cost of avocado $.95 is maybe one thin slice cut in half making it 2. Payed almost $32 bucks and still left very hungry and did I mention that my 4 year old daughter was still hungry. We had to go else were to get more food and pay more money to another place because ordering any more food would have broke the bank. At the end of the meal my daughter wanted a cupcake sure it's the claim to fame right......served cold most likely because it made with butter but the frosting was ice cold, well more like hard. This would have been a amazing cc if served at room temperature or not as cold as the flavors were there but could not hit my taste buds because of the temperature. I did call Kate (owner) who is VERY nice and defiantly has the passion for baking and grit needed to own a restaurant. I informed her of my disliking she went over the prices to ensure I was charged the right amount and offered me a free sandwich next time I wanted to come by. Nice offer however it may not be worth it as I would need to feed the rest of my family and still pay a high price for small amounts of food. Writing this is review is sad to me as I can see and "feel" that this local spot has the ideas and concepts of a cafe (hence the 3*)but maybe not the right person working the grill (Did I mention the help wanted sign) I would have given 2* over all as many other people have already mention the high prices but feel 2 1/2 stars is fair My advise STICK TO THE WAFFLES!!!! read more

I stopped in for the first time this weekend. I got two sandwiches for my boyfriend and me - the smokehouse and chicken caprese. Both were delicious! The price for the high quality was also incredibly fair, and I loved that each sandwich came with a pickle and small cookie. I was happy to see an actual bakery in Chelmsford open up and wanted to get a "real bakery" birthday cake for my daughters birthday instead of the usual Market Basket or Stop and Shop blah stuff. I ordered an 8 inch marble (per her request) with buttercream frosting for pick up the next day. The person who took the order seemed unsure uf they could have a cake ready in 24 hours...?? This is a bakery right? How much notice do you need? She said they make everything to order, understandable and good but still seemed weird. Anyway, picked up the cake next day and it was very pretty, white chocolate flowers in pink and purple, nice. Now the not so good. The cake was very dry and you could see from the edges that it was very overdone, dark brown and hard. Also, the frosting was more like supermarket sugary frosting than buttercream. I used to work in a bakery and made the buttercream myself and this was not good. Disapointed so not sure if I will try them again especially at $40 for 1 cake!! read more

I was out visiting a friend in Chelmsford and from what I hear good food places are hard to come by so this place was great, my one complaint would be that some of the clientele seemed a bit hoity toity and my meal ended up being over $20 for breakfast which is usually the cheapest meal of the day. Beyond that everything was great--I got the lemon ricotta pancakes which I would definitely recommend. I didn't think I would be a fan of the blueberry compote when I saw it but it wasn't artificial tasting at all, so I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered a side of home fries because for me it's not brunch without home fries and they were the best part of the meal, I just wish there had been more of them. They were crispy in all the right ways and well seasoned. My friend ordered a maple bacon waffle eggs Benedict which looked great, albeit a little small for the price (only half a waffle). The atmosphere was sunny and open and they had some fun art on the walls. They had the coffee out in urns so you filled your own cup. If you are going to charge $3.00 for a cupcake, it better be consistently moist and tasty every time. In both my experiences, the frosting was delicious but the cake was dry and not fresh.
