This is my 3rd annual update for the San Francisco Bay Area's Crossroads Trading stores. As a personal buyer for multiple clients for decades, I've made it a priority to trade, buy and sell at each Crossroad store in the San Francisco Bay Area. After visting the City, East Bay and Southern CA stores, I am still partial and perhaps biased about the new College Avenue store. It is still my favorite Go-To high-end resale store, shopping there when it was across the street over 15-20 years ago. Other reviewers say that the new location has improved, brighter natural lighting with more open visual space and high ceilings for placement of high-end pieces. Their selection is better and consistently checked and maintained. High-end or designer pieces are encased or behind sales counter, allowing more room to move with better access to see, touch and try-on clothing. The dressing rooms are clean, well lit and accessible. The holding area for sellers waiting to sell might get cramped on a weekend and could use more staging or shelf area. It's nice to shop while you wait and not have to sit and watch your bags. Good training and the way its staff treats each customer makes all the difference. Long-time management, Jason, Dikki, Nola Mei, Emily and Diana are stellar and hire and train new employees with a discerning inclusive selection process of open-minded, friendly, and respectful staff. A huge shout out to Mack, Cairo, Rachel and Brooklyne and do excuse me if I've forgotten anyone. When asked if they enjoy working at Crossroads, they had positive attitudes and responses. Their buyers curate pieces carefully, and choose on what will sell for the season and location. They treat their customers with respect and are candid about their selections. I no longer feel slighted if they don't take an expensive item I thought would sell. My favorite brands traded and bought here are Vince, James Perse, APC, Armani, ATM, Theory, Patagonia, Lululemon, Rag and Bone, Acne, Eileen Fisher, A Piece Apart, Levis and more. The men's selections have improved and increased offering multiple top brands. I've bought Marni, Coach, Gavriel Mansur, YSL, and Longchamp purses and backpacks, along with unisex ArcTeryx, Patagonia and Northface backpacks and totes. Their shoes and boots like Prada, Aquatalia, Adidas, Todd's, Pedro Garcia etc., are great and one can still consign top shelf designer pieces. The trendy marks, Madewell, Frame, L'Agence, AGolde, Levis, Dickies and unique streetwear brands are abundant and offer affordable, high-end sunglasses, wallets and jewelry. Buying, selling or trading gently-used, pre-loved pieces that someone bought retail at 300-400% markup, some brand new with tags still attached - and you may just find your hidden gem here. That's funny how they'll pay so little for your clothes (if you're lucky enough to sell anything), but everything they sell is expensive. Anyways, don't go there if you don't want to waste your time, this place is a complete joke. They will treat you like if you're selling them trashy clothes, such a snobby place. read more

I've been to many crossroads locations and this one is okay. I went on a really hot day so they had the door wide open for air flow but that allowed so many flies to roam around the store. I waited a few hours but luckily I was able to walk around to the neighboring stores while I waited. They took 2 items out of 3 bags of gently used name brands. read more

My favorite buy sell trade store in the Bay Area! Their selection is immaculate, always a good amount of reasonably priced designer and a ton of trendy styles. Crossroads is great for a clean & high quality 'thrifting' experience. It's closer to a Berkeley garage sale imo- higher prices than a regular thrift store but fun & well kept clothing. They separate their items by style & type of clothing (active wear vs sweaters vs casual wear, etc) which really helps me focus on what I might be looking for! I also really appreciate the color coordination as well. Pricing is clearly marked & there are a good amount of half priced items as well. Some items, like the sunglasses ($16 each) are all the same price. They keep their pricier/designer items behind the counter and/or in the locked cases by the registers. I appreciate that the store is well kept & the clothes are maintained and sorted for a pleasant shopping experience. I will say that the two times I've gone, I've had a poor customer service experience. Both times, the cashiers didn't notice us in line for awhile. Both times they were all either chatting with each other or on their phones. Once they even looked at us and didn't ask why we were standing in the area marked as the line... I totally get that it's a thrift store & lots of the employees are college students, but some professionalism would be appreciated. read more

The selection and service are fine, but the prices (minus maybe the occasional shoes) are exorbitant and the surprise surcharge feels like a gouge. They really don't need to add that surcharge and I feel like they nickel and dimed me on a $175 worth of purchases. When I asked about it (kindly- without implication that I wouldn't pay it) the otherwise nice person ringing me out, looked at me like I was such a huge Karen for asking why there was an extra $6 tacked on to an already crazy 10.25%. She said "Cost of doing business in the Bay. We have a sign that clearly explains." Uhm, no. I paid it, but won't be going back anytime soon. Crossroads selling review: I mostly went for the experience because a friend told me about it. I sold 4 items for $31, including a Nike item and an OGL skirt, so it definitely felt like they lowballed me a bit. But honestly, I was planning to donate the clothes anyway and mainly wanted to get rid of clutter. What surprised me is how expensive they price everything in-store -- shirts, skirts, and dresses were around $25-40. The only reasonably priced section was the shoes. Such a weird store lol. I probably wouldn't go back unless maybe to trade, but even then the wait didn't feel worth it. Depop was super slow for a couple months, but now it's picking back up and I've already made around $100 selling a few items. At this point my main goal is just clearing out old clothes because I have way too many. read more

It had been a long time since I'd stepped foot inside of Crossroads. I'm happy to report that their new Rockridge location is thoughtfully curated and filled with gems you don't have to hunt hard for to find. You can get on the seller list via their (kinda clunky) app or by signing in at the store. Be forewarned that this location is bustling with sellers so do yourself a favor and hand the staff your bag(s), shop, and then run any other errands you have in the area. Who has time to sit around for your name to be called? I found a bunch of new (to me) tops that were just the summery injection to my wardrobe I'd not known I needed. I sold five pieces and the buyer was very kind in explaining what he looks for and why my other pieces didn't fit what they were successful at reselling (in a highly non-judgemental manner). I've been in a few more times since my last review and this location has improved quite a bit since they moved to their new location. I wonder if they were sorting out some kinks with staffing and training 6+ months ago since my more recent experiences have been pleasant and staff has been friendly and helpful. I've noticed that those who seem to be managers or shift leads are especially great. Overall I would recommend! Helps too if you sign up to sell on the mobile app. read more

I spent time over the last two (2) weekends working with the great folks at Crossroads / Oakland. I was more than a little impressed with the quality and presentation of the items for sale and even more impressed with the friendly, supportive and helpful staff. I'd like to call out both Brooklyne and Dikki who I was fortunate to collaborate with on each of my Saturday visits. I'm digging deep to see if I can find some additional items to bring for sale in the coming weeks and hope to work with Brooklyne and Dikki once again. On my next visit I hope to have a bit more time to browse the selection of men's items as I have seen some interesting pieces on each of my last two visits. I had a positive experience selling a bunch of pairs of shoes here. The process seemed efficient, signed in on a tablet. Waited a little bit and then got a little cash for stuff I was going to donate anyway. Niki was especially helpful. I really don't like leaving negative reviews but I feel like I need to get this one out. Haven't been to a crossroads in a long time but I don't think I'll be shopping or trading at this one again. I put my name in and started shopping. When I went to check my place in line one of the staff members told me it could be a 2 hour wait. I had my baby with me and have one at school so I decided I couldn't risk being late to pick up my kid. I had to drive an hour to this location as it was the closest and had to calculate for an hour back. So I purchased the clothes I was hoping to use my credits for and took a trip back to my car to haul my stuff out. On my second trip, they called my name so I scrambled with my baby back to the car again to haul one of my bags back. After my trade, the buyer asked if I wanted cash or credit I asked if I could return the purchase I just made and use my credit. She seemed flustered and then simply said there was no way to do that, which was echoed by another staff member. So my question then is, do they just not accept returns made within the hour, or did they just not want to? Online it says they do accept returns. Was really stressful bringing my baby in here, but I'm telling you, this business should want new moms... we're not getting rid of our clothes because they're in bad condition, dated or we don't like them, we're getting rid of our clothes because our bodies and lifestyles have changed. I'm saving the trouble next time I'm putting my stuff on Poshmark or doing a clothing swap with my girlfriends, because I feel like every part of this experience was an insult to my time. So I really like crossroads! They have the cutest clothes which says a lot because sometimes consignment stores have good stuff and more often than not they have bad stuff. This location is very picky on what they accept which is great for me because they have good style pickers. The employees are really nice and they treat you with respect. Even if they choose not to buy your clothes they are really friendly about why they chose not to purchase an item. Only downside is the wait which feels like forever but if you put your name down you can leave and they will send you a text. That's what I will do next time instead of sitting and waiting the entire time. I'll sale there again or just go to buy! read more

In terms of shopping and finding good things this is by far the best location to me. *Unfortunately* I always end up finding something I want to buy while waiting to sell/trade my clothes. I have been to a lot of crossroads locations all the way from Sacramento to Santa Cruz and this one is consistently the best one in terms of finding things! If you are selling, be prepared to wait a long time. I don't trust the text notification process here. One time I received the text message after waiting one entire hour and within 2 minutes I was at the cash register and she had already started the next Buy for the next person so I had to wait even longer.... I do appreciate that the buyers here do choose items I consider to be perfectly good items to sell where as the San Carlos/San Jose location sometimes turns downs items that make total sense. Customer service is generally good and there's always someone available for questions etc at the counter. Also glad there's a security guard whenever I've come and grateful they have been attentive and *unfortunately* have to do there jobs with the odd folks that try to hangout there.... Found a pair of basically new "DR. MARTENS Jadon Womens Platform Boots" for $65 and they retail for $209!!!! Excited for that. For the more basic items though like t-shirts/ tanks, if does feel like some items are priced too high but overall happy with my purchases. I'm not much of an in-person shopper but I love Crossroads when I get motivated. Not only is it walking distance, they have already pre screened a bunch of clothing for me. Not many people like shopping with me because I will go through each available item in my size so I'm in the store for a while! The items are separated by size and organized by color. I like to go weekday mornings when they open at 11 as weekends are too crowded. At this hour there sometimes is no one attending the fitting room. The fitting rooms are in the back and you are now allowed to try on 10 things at a time. There are no shipping baskets or carts so 10 is a lot to carry around with you anyway! The assistant will lead you to a room and place a marker with the number of items you are trying on the outside of the door. If you have more than 10 you can have then hold the extras on the rack while you try your first batch. The fitting rooms have mirrors, hooks and a wire rack so you can organize your finds. The floors could use some extra cleaning as both of the rooms I tried today had dust balls and debris in the corners. Once you are done but still shopping you can ask the assistant to hold on to the clothes you want to purchase while you go back out to get more. The men's section has been growing over the years. The shoes are all on top of the clothing racks. There are fancier finds hung on the ceilings which you can ask to take down. The buying section is on one side of the checkout counter and you can sign in on iPad. I tried selling once many years ago but they are picky in what they are buying each season, so now I just shop and listen to them yelling out sellers names when they are done and ready to issue them credit or cash. There are benches along the front wall for those waiting. There are mirrors on pillars if you want to try on jackets or shoes, hats, scarves, bags, things that don't require privacy. There is a half off sale rack in the back. A line for checkout starts amid the clothing racks. They take all forms of payment and offer you bags for 50 cents so bring your own! The card machine takes a while to read your card. You can browse the sun glass and jewelry case below you meanwhile. The employees mostly socialize amongst themselves. You can park free down Chabot, easy walk from Rockridge Bart or meter park right in the front. There are no public restrooms so make sure you have gone before a long shopping spree! read more

I've been a fan of College Crossroads for quite a while. It's one of the rare gems in the area, offering a great selection of vintage clothing especially in the men's section for bigger guys. I've always had great experiences with the staff; they're friendly, knowledgeable about what I'm selling, and offer fair prices in exchange. The new location is also fantastic, with its close proximity to Market Hall for a snack and Pegasus Books for a browse afterward. read more

I had a terrible experience here. I was trying to consign some high end pieces as well as some very "regular", but popular pieces. The woman behind the counter immediately told me that my items wouldn't sell. At the same time, I watched the woman next to me with raggedy, dirty clothing have her items accepted. I am a Black woman; the other customer was white. After that happened, I looked through their clothing racks and found items that were similar to the items I offered, but not as new or clean. I believe this place practices racial discrimination that is either encouraged by the owners (I read another review with the same complaint; and a friend had the same experience); or they don't know this is happening. Because others have complained about this on Yelp, I tend to believe the former. This needs to be addressed. But I will not be returning. read more

i have sold to crossroads before, they usually take a few things, but this time I came in with 7 bags of BEautiful clothes. Well known brands like bebe, diesel, tommy hilfiger, etc in perfect condition. After apparently going through all of it, they tell me they can't take a single piece. I politely questioned why and they explained that I didn't have "marketable" brands. I so want to patronize but perhaps your staff can do better with a little friendliness and welcoming attitude. They seem to barely ever give a cursory glance at you when you enter the store and cross in front of the counter. Also, I can't seem to figure out what level of quality they buy. This review is for buying, not selling clothes. I had about 45 min of downtime as my kid was in her dance class at the Shawl Anderson Center about 10 min walk away. I will admit that as a "very elder" millennial this store is probably not totally catered to me. But that's OK. I liked the vibe anyway. The downsides are that the service when checking out is s l o w. Like even with 1 person ahead of me I was waiting about 7 min (allowing me to mindlessly scroll my phone and put back a pair of Madewell jeans I was on the fence buying) for them to finish the transaction, which looked like it went through without hiccup. That seems long to me. And the fitting room lighting is about as bad as they come - uneven, fluorescent, and at times, very dark like you're in a storeroom. And not very clean. But the upsides - there seem to be a great mix of better fast fashion (Madewell, Zara, Gap) and higher-end items (Coach). Quality was pretty wearable too, nothing too ratty or Goodwill-esque. Didn't see any Old Navy or Target brands, for example. I spotted some almost new Reebok trainers, Birkenstocks, Swedish clogs, a Coach bag. I was looking for jeans and saw a LOT of Madewell (some NWT), a few Levi's, Paige, lots of Zara, Topshop, BR, Gap, etc. Judging by the age of the other shoppers (most 20 years my junior), this seems great. Everything looks moderately current to fashion trends too. Prices are not bad, I did get a pair of good quality Zara wide leg jeans (so trendy) for $18. The NWT Madewell jeans were going for about $24. I'll likely be back, but will allot a LOT more time! (And also time to look for parking, this area of Rockridge is pretty trafficky.) read more

Prices are no more than a few bucks for each item even for brand name items! i got a GAP sweater for 8 dollars here meanwhile the almost same sweater goes for triple at crossroads trading. And this whole buying in what is season and needed for the store- i just dont see the actual method behind this after seeing how things are purchased and the items displayed. I would recommend this place if buying clothes though they are on the pricey side for second hand clothes. I wouldn't recommend selling here. I have brought clothes to sell here before. This time round , they only took one item out of the bag that was not tied. I had waited over 2hours and they didn't bother to open the second bag. In my other bag I had clothes with tags on it still. I waited over 2 hours they only took 2 mins to look at one item .While I went to cash out all they did was talk. Lots of clothes and shoes for men and women available here. Plenty of choices if you just want to browse while you wait to trade in your clothes. Major thing to note: they only take in "trendy, current, casual" clothing here. You can either get a percentage of what would sell or store credit back. They give you a little token and take your number and depending on how many people are ahead of you, it can be an hour wait or more for them to get to your stuff. Plenty of shops and things to look around while you wait though. The neighborhood is pretty cute too! Only a few of my things got bought. I mostly had business or business casual clothes that weren't from top clothing brands. Will probably just take the rest of my stuff to Goodwill. read more

I went to Crossroads during the week sometime around noon. I did no previous research, I was just hoping I did not need an appointment. Fortunately you do not. There is a sign in list that you add your name too and simply wait to be called or texted. I was number 10. I found out that you can also hold your place in line via the app or online. They will text you and you have 10min to arrive. They will NOT wait the 10min for you to arrive, further holding up the line, you will just be next upon your arrival. The store is nice. The only reason I didn't shop around was because I need to get rid of clothes, not add to it. Because I had a bunch of jeans to sell, I did check out the jean selection. There was nothing for tall women. I'm 5'10. I don't hold that against them, it's tough to find long inseams in department stores also. I had free time on my hands so I went on yelp to check the reviews. Lots of negative experiences. The main one was wait time. I didn't even consider that this could be a long process, but as someone stated, people bring in loads of stuff. I only had one tote sized bag btw. Fortunately, from start to finish, I was in there maybe an hour. However, i don't believe everyone on the list came arrived in time for their appointment. I had about 16 items to sell. They bought maybe 7 of those items. I had 1 formal dress and 6 pairs of skinny jeans that they passed on. It's ok to ask questions (politely!). I was told formal dresses and skinny jeans don't sell at that location. Understandable. I have sandals that I forgot to bring. I asked if they were taking those at this time, she said not yet, wait a few months. IF you have the space to hold your items, you can always try to sell again depending on the season.
