There was a time, years ago, when I would gatekeep Pretty Penny because I wanted all the wonderfulness for myself but now that online shopping is keeping people home more, I want everyone to know this is a must stop. Not only that, it's a must stop often, as things are always changing. The owner has a great eye for color and prints and the quality and variety are unmatched. Sarah and her wonderful store are both so special. I am very grateful to have discovered Pretty Penny, when I was desperately searching for my wedding dress, which was a saga lasting months. I bought online my first dress, which I had to return as the dress unfortunately did not fit. Then I ordered a 2nd dress from Etsy, but the Etsy vendor had decided to make some "tweaks" to the design. I had been too stressed to even think about it, so I put off trying it on again. This was about 2 weeks before my wedding and my best friend had flown in from Spain the day before. She insisted I try it on again. Although she tried to carefully hide the look of horror on her face regarding dress #2, I was whisked out the door in 15 mins of trying it on, to find a new dress. My BFF remembered Pretty Penny from years earlier when she lived in Berkeley. And somehow, we pulled up in front, there was an open parking spot immediately in front of the store (on Telegraph!), we walked in the front door, and on the very first rack there was a gorgeous 2-piece bias-cut satin dress -- the type for which I had been looking for months! My BFF immediately seized it, held it up, and a nice customer at the front of the store observed what a great wedding dress it would be. The clouds parted! However, not only does Sarah have a great eye and a very curated collection, she's also incredibly kind and helpful. She pulled multiple dresses out of the back for me to take a look (although my first love prevailed). She also recommended an excellent local tailor for the small alteration I wanted done, and he did excellent work. I really appreciated her. There is so much pressure on everything being perfect for your wedding, and I really struggled to find the right dress. I was so grateful in that moment for how everything came together courtesy of Sarah and Pretty Penny. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!! Honestly my experience isn't too recent. I am new to yelp and my experience with them was so terrible it was worth writing about. Especially as my roommate had a semi similar terrible experience with the owner recently!! First off the owner takes alot of offense if you as about the previous business. When I asked her ehat happened to the other shop that was here she responded in a ride eye roll tone. I wasn't implying I wasn't happy about her shop I was just curious. As I was shopping and looking around I overheard the owner talking so terribly of what I am guessing was a customer maybe possible co-worker or friend. whoever it was it was really, really bad. It made me super uncomfortable. I have been in the clothing business for a long time, its my job professionally. Altough alot of her products are great and pleasing on the eye her vintage tee's (I heard were from her husbands closet btw) are priced at $120-$300 which insane. I made a comment and she attacked me in a really aggressive way. She just happens to be a really aggress person in general. I heard from multiple friends after I said what happened t me that she has done things like that in the past and was known in the community as rude. She is nice and then on moment not nice. She talks about the rich, her customers in such a evil way. And has no problem telling you to leave her store if you question her. She also has her husband working there and they double team I don't want to make this some bash fest but I would like the owner and community to know about this and hopefully this will help her change. Maybe she is getting burnt out, maybe its covid or mental health but it would be nice if the owner could then hire someone to help. the whole purpose is customer service and the rule is fake it if you have to since connecting with clients is apart of the gig. read more

Really pretty sad experience entering this shop today. The location was previously a clothing store that I frequented whenever I was within walking distance. Today I popped in after many months to find that the space is now owned by Pretty Penny. I remarked that I didn't know that the previous store (Rue La La) was no longer there and was still in a bit of shock and sadness over the previous tenants no longer being there when the shop person or owner told me "it was not for me". She said I walked in with an attitude and didn't think that her shop was "for me", in essence, asking me to leave. I realize some of us may be lacking the in-person social skills we once had before the pandemic but this was straight up rude. I have no idea what assumptions she made about me in that moment but I was legitimately and innocently commenting about the closure of the previous shop which had zero to do with the current business. The clothing looked beautiful and the presentation was nice but I don't know why anyone would want to walk through those doors to be treated in that way. read more
