I would recommend this place if buying clothes though they are on the pricey side for second hand clothes. I wouldn't recommend selling here. I have brought clothes to sell here before. This time round , they only took one item out of the bag that was not tied. I had waited over 2hours and they didn't bother to open the second bag. In my other bag I had clothes with tags on it still. I waited over 2 hours they only took 2 mins to look at one item .While I went to cash out all they did was talk. Lots of clothes and shoes for men and women available here. Plenty of choices if you just want to browse while you wait to trade in your clothes. Major thing to note: they only take in "trendy, current, casual" clothing here. You can either get a percentage of what would sell or store credit back. They give you a little token and take your number and depending on how many people are ahead of you, it can be an hour wait or more for them to get to your stuff. Plenty of shops and things to look around while you wait though. The neighborhood is pretty cute too! Only a few of my things got bought. I mostly had business or business casual clothes that weren't from top clothing brands. Will probably just take the rest of my stuff to Goodwill. read more

Witnessing the overly privileged customers attempting to sell their last season/yesterday's wear and expressing their distaste for the value they're being offered was very amusing from my end but absolutely not necessary. I went to Crossroads during the week sometime around noon. I did no previous research, I was just hoping I did not need an appointment. Fortunately you do not. There is a sign in list that you add your name too and simply wait to be called or texted. I was number 10. I found out that you can also hold your place in line via the app or online. They will text you and you have 10min to arrive. They will NOT wait the 10min for you to arrive, further holding up the line, you will just be next upon your arrival. The store is nice. The only reason I didn't shop around was because I need to get rid of clothes, not add to it. Because I had a bunch of jeans to sell, I did check out the jean selection. There was nothing for tall women. I'm 5'10. I don't hold that against them, it's tough to find long inseams in department stores also. I had free time on my hands so I went on yelp to check the reviews. Lots of negative experiences. The main one was wait time. I didn't even consider that this could be a long process, but as someone stated, people bring in loads of stuff. I only had one tote sized bag btw. Fortunately, from start to finish, I was in there maybe an hour. However, i don't believe everyone on the list came arrived in time for their appointment. I had about 16 items to sell. They bought maybe 7 of those items. I had 1 formal dress and 6 pairs of skinny jeans that they passed on. It's ok to ask questions (politely!). I was told formal dresses and skinny jeans don't sell at that location. Understandable. I have sandals that I forgot to bring. I asked if they were taking those at this time, she said not yet, wait a few months. IF you have the space to hold your items, you can always try to sell again depending on the season. I have never bought or sell second hand clothes but after doing a deep closet cleaning I had a bunch of clothes taking space and thought about selling them. I stopped by on a Monday morning, it was busy, I was number 7 when I got on the list and it took about 1.5 hours for them to call my name, it was my first experience and I learned a couple of things. - they don't take fast fashion brands. - you can add yourself on the waitlist ahead of time by downloading the app. But come in with time to spare. - keep track of the parking meters or park in the back. - they will price your items at their judgment, and if you want the cash they would give you 30% of the given value, but if you want store credit instead they will give you 50%, ( I recommend the store credit, they have a great selection of brands and items) - if you are buying- try the things on store ( you'll have plenty of time). Overall my experience was good, the staff was friendly, although only 4 items made it through, I understood a lot about how they curate the items they buy, so next time I wouldn't carry big bags full of things that they don't take . read more

I once came up on hella nice jackets/coats from here a couple years ago - some designer brand too. But that was really just that one time... every other time I've dropped by, I didn't really see anything that caught my eye. But hey, it's a consignment store so it's always gonna be a hit or miss. Today, I came in and actually found a few decent items. Went to the register and ended up paying $72 for 2 tops and a Nike hoodie... a bit confused why it cost so much but I just figured maybe the stuff I was buying was actually good quality/never worn designer stuff. I figured it's still a lot cheaper than what I normally would pay for if they were brand new, so whatever... I later realize I should've said something while I was still at the register. I have been selling to and buying from Crossroads for over 20 years, especially at the College Avenue location, even before they moved to the current address. the long wait can be a drag, but that is because I don't use their app. Therefore I just have to accept the reality of waiting and worse, ending up not selling anything. Taste is a subjective thing. They are, after all, a fashion forward second hand shop. Please don't blame the buyers for not choosing your items. Except for a rare experience of rudeness from eons ago, I have never encountered unpleasant treatment. The staff there are all very friendly, from getting clothes for you to try on, to ringing up your purchases. And, the designer items are a steal, if you can spot them. My rating is based off of the many times I've come here to sell and my luck today. This is a seller's haven if you want to get rid of some of your old clothes that are in good condition. I almost always sell most of the items I bring in, but just make sure to pay attention to what they're accepting for the season. I stopped in twice today, once after having lunch across the street. I came up on a Sherpa jacket in a men's L for me - gotta love oversized! The price was right at $28. I liked a few other things including an brand new Adidas top and biker short set and a pair of Nike air Max. I want to point out how helpful Martel was. He let me know that I could place the items on hold until the next day AND that I could download an app to hold my place in line before getting to the store. That's some good customer service. I didn't about the app and it's such a useful tip for sellers. I returned after 7 today and picked up what I put on hold after trading some items in. I'm thoroughly pleased. Crossroads can be hit or miss when it comes to finding some things. I just so happened to luck out as I've been looking for a jacket like the one I've purchased all winter. Basically, I paid $36 for everything I got after trade. POSITIVE PERK: Srsly, the Adidas set being brand new and marked down significantly was everything for me. read more

Overall, I had a good experience trying to sell my clothes here at Crossroads. I would just advise that the shop reform the way in which it calls people forward for purchases. I had made an appointment via the Crossroads Trading app, and had arrived at the store WAY ahead of my place in line. I was waiting near the buying counter for my number to be called, but for whatever reason, I was skipped without warning. Thankfully, the staff were more than accommodating, and slot me in right after the next buy, however, it was a little nerve wrecking as the wait times can be quite long if you need to wait in line again. Other than that, I think the prices are fair. It's quite unfortunate that they only buy what is in "season" or what is appropriate for the current climate, which means I will have to come back to make another sale. read more

I've been buying and selling clothing for a few years and it's definitely hit or miss on shopping. Some days I come in and leave empty handed and other times I found great gems. I find they overprice items just on the brand name alone even when the style is questionable. As a seller, the process can take a long time. Signing up on the app wait-list is recommended and needed because otherwise you are waiting for hours. What a brilliant time I had here at crossroads the other day! Coming from the UK, this experience was all very new to me and the workers were more than happy to help guide me through this experience. The waitlist was easy to navigate and I browsed a bit while waiting. I love the mix of styles and sizes that they offer and when it was my turn, I was greeted with a smile and nice conversation. I went to sell some items and the woman who helped me was great. She explained to me why she wouldn't buy some items, as well as the reason behind why I couldn't donate items. She then directed me to the cashier to get the cash for a jacket I sold. This is where things could have been better. There was no warmth, no hello, but an immediate ask for my phone number as soon as I said I had sold something. When I requested cash, i was asked if wanted cash. I had to ask for it 3 times, in the forms of "please", "yes, please" and then simply "yes". That's all I have to share. YMMV here, but it was on OK experience. I wouldn't come running back to this store the next time I have something to sell though. read more

Selling experience: Absolutely rude customer service. Don't accept waitlist members if you're not willing to help them with the right attitude. I joined the waitlist later on a Saturday (about 5pm, with "Next Up" status hitting at 7pm). I was surprised they would accept this late of a sell but I went with it. When I entered the store and walked towards the sell desk, the first thing the guy said to me was "We're not buying anymore today," with a huge attitude. I told him I was next up on the list and asked if they were not doing that anymore. He said put your stuff to the side and I'll help you next. All with an eye roll. When it was my turn I walk up and try basic kindness "hi how are you", which doesn't get me anywhere. He barks just leave the clothes here and I'll call you when I'm done. I mention there is a box in the bag I'd like to keep and he completely ignores me (doesn't even look up). Just turn away late waitlist members if you're going to treat them less than human. I come here often and unfortunately I never have a positive experience with the service as just someone buying or selling. Today I used the app to add my name to the line, for there quickly to check in and then wasn't called for 35 minutes. When I checked in the one seller said she'd called out my name, but I definitely did not here her. Perhaps their music is too loud because I was paying it attention and remained close to the front. With only one buyer working, which I think is wild since it's a Saturday and super busy selling day, she said it'd be at least 20 more minutes. (A tee-shirt that has a Supreme label, but is Mossy Oak camoflauge, threadbare but has the brandname is tagged for $42.50!!) Waste of time and picky buyers. If you have masochistic and get off on feeling insulted and looked down upon for your fashion choices, come to Crossroads. I came in with decent and trendy clothes and shoes (attempting to sell them plenty of styles listed on their own advert postcard as things they buy) but clearly none of it was good enough??? Every time I try to sell, I'm left realizing the mistake again, of being judged by lame and pretentious people and their hypocritical policies. Crossroads has some quality finds! They really do have actual cute and wearable pieces. They're not like other thrift stores where you have to really sift through tons of random junk or bad quality clothing to find gems; they have tons of gems and great finds right there in front of you! The negative is that for a second-hand store they really are expensive. There is no reason you should be charging $28.99 for a random top from H&M. I'm VERY sure the top itself was almost the same price brand new. The vintage clothes are fairly priced, but that's far and few in between. Lower the prices a smidge, and I'd be there all the time and feel justified in buying their used clothing! Other than that, Crossroads is a good thrift store with many good finds. read more

Being blunt I'm a long time customer of this location and when I went in today I was SHOCKED at the shift in pricing. I'm not sure if this specific store is under new management or if this is a change across all locations, but everything was insanely overpriced. I came across one or two things that had the old price tag and those were the only items under $20. Lots of new tags reading $23.17 or $50+. Even taking into account that 3% surcharge they implemented a while back I picked up pieces that were priced WAYYYY over market value for what it is. I was really surprised because I used to love this spot for buying and selling clothes. It used to be trendy AND affordable. First time selling at Crossroad and I came to this location first. I was assisted by store manager, Meg. I came in with 5 plus garbage bags at 7pm close to closing. Anyone should have been annoyed and she was super patience and helpful. Working in retail I can imagine it being chaotic and was able to power through and helped remaining customers on the waitlist before closing. Meg's customer service was over and beyond - just really awesome. She knows her stuff and work efficiently. I witnessed her multitasking by managing the front, back and delegate what needs to be done so her remaining staffs would not struggle to leave late. I will definitely come again. Meg was amazing! So after coming back a few times, I figured it was time for an update! Due to COVID restrictions, you have to call one day in advance to schedule an appointment and you can only bring up to 50 items. The girl on the phone informed me that they book one day in advance and their slots fill up quick, so call right when they open! When you book a slot, they will tell you exactly what they're accepting at the moment. My selling experiences here have gotten better throughout my visits. I love how the girls are more transparent about why they didn't take certain items I brought in. Sometimes, they'll even advise to come back with some of the same items when they're more in season. With the added transparency, I was able to cater to exactly what they were looking for and they took a majority of my items during my most recent visit. In terms of selection, I still enjoy how they have a mix of different brands that cater to different tastes and price ranges. I wasn't looking to buy new clothes THIS TIME since I just decluttered my closet but the store is well organized and clean. Sections are easy to shop and everything is sized! read more

i can't believe I waited 1.5hrs to sell my clothes.. first I called in to make sure it wasn't busy and the girl on the phone said it wasn't busy to sell clothes so, I went straight there within 13 mins. I was still patient when I got there even though there were 10 people in front of me lol... THEN, they didn't even take my clothes. Her reasoning was because I had brands such as, Forever21, H&M, Nike, Adidas, Aldo... So, if anyone has any of those brands to sell then, don't go there I guess lol. Negative star. As many people have already said, the customer service here is outright rude. Very, very, unnecessarily rude. Basically, my review is the same as John Philips', Christie M.'s, etc. The buyer seemed like a miserable person who's only joy in life was dumping his misery on Crossroads customers. That, and loudly complaining about a coworker with another coworker right in front of customers (ironically, it was about how rude and inconsiderate she was). It created a negative environment from the start and I should have just left. It's apparent that Crossroads doesn't care about their customer service and the whole business seems to be going down hill for years now. Cause and effect. I'd rather donate my items to a non-profit thrift store that's trying to do some good. read more

I came in, saw the employees (young Asian man and Black woman) greet the person ahead of me, then look at me and completely look away. Microaggression #1. They then stared at me wide-eyed and sheepish the entire time I shopped, being so violently hostile of me existing in this store that I felt extremely uncomfortable and unwelcome. I come here often, and I've spent a LOT of money at this store. Usually, it's okay. There's a light skinned dude there that's mostly chill. But this was not okay, and I am so angry. A lot of people are rude and prejudiced against Black people shopping in Oakland, so I'm used to it, but it sucks for a place that you like to turn on you. read more

If you ever wanted to see the effects of the gentrification in Oakland and what it has done to communities who have called The Town home for years look no further. What used to be a vibrant and must see city has completely changed over the years. The street this store is on is a stunning reminder of how much Oakland has changed over the years. As for the store itself. Situated pretty far out of the way its hard to locate to begin with. Then upon entering you're instantly struck with the feeling that you're not necessarily welcome on the premises. I'm not sure when it became a social norm to pay people to make your potential customers feel unwelcome yet that is the vibe I have gotten when visiting this store. This past trip I lasted no more than 2 minutes within the store before leaving. Since I was in the area at the time I thought why not stop in spend a few bucks and browse the selection barely made it to the Men's section of the store before deciding I did not want to partake in the all too familiar reaction garnering comments made by "customers." Since the world is made to wear masks I see how P.O.C. are now viewed in an even more negative context being that not only are they minorities but you also can't clearly identify them. Which at this location is even more stunning considering the city it is located in very close to one of the most well known universities in the country which alleges its progressive and welcoming to people of all walks of life. Overall this place is not the best place to go if you're of African decent. Online shopping is unfortunately still the best route to take as it takes profiling out of the equation. Online shopping will value not only your business but due to no profiling it will enhance your shopping experience. WHEN: Tuesday @2:30pm I was happy to learn that they've been open again to buy! What's different now is that you'd have to make an appointment and bring no more than 50 items at this location. There is a parking lot behind the shop where you can shop for free. As I entered I was greeted with such a friendly welcome by an associate. At the entrance is a table with hand sanitizer. He thanked me for being on time and although I was 15 minutes early to my appointment, I was taken care of right away! While I waited I noticed that customers who enter must be acknowledged by an associate first (with a friendly greeting) before entering, which I greatly appreciated! This was Martel and he was super friendly and professional! I really appreciated him! Customers must wear a mask, and may be asked to wait outside if the shop reaches its limited capacity, which gives plenty space for shoppers. While my bags of clothes were being taken a look at, I was able to shop around or go outside. The whole process was pretty quick and I was in and out in like 20 minutes! I was given the option of 30% cash of the selling price or 50% in store credits. They didn't buy much from me (3 items) since they are quite particular with what they buy. Course you do get more on larger brands. My time here was simple and easy. Lugging all my things back to the car was easy since parking was just outside in the shared lot. Thank you!!! read more

I asked if they were still doing the program where you can donate a few cents if you don't get a bag, and was met with an unnecessarily rude response. She told me she had worked there for two years and they never did that, well maybe she should stop because you're obviously you're not cut out for customer service. Like what's the point in snapping back at me for asking a simple question. Great way to ruin a day and a shopping experience. By the way they did used to have this program so shes wrong. Crossroads is one of those "I-can't-even-say-hit-or-miss-because-it's-pretty-much-always-miss" spots. Maybe once in a while you'll find the perfect cut of 7 for All jeans here, but for the most part you'll be frustrated by cheap hanger after cheap hanger that you'll have to struggle with to see any garment. The staff are typically rude, but I had a really pleasant experience on my January 2022 visit. Didn't exactly make up for 5-8 years of being treated like a nuisance to the store, but it helped. I would definitely recommend scheduling an appointment for any selling, and make sure to be on time. Alright, so I had probably the best experience I have ever and will ever have at Crossroads today. And it was still bogus as h-e-double-you-know-what. The staff, even when kind and courteous, are usually too busy talking to each other or showing each other memes on their phones to do their actual job. That's primarily the reason that selling here is a mega nightmare. Even when the counter folks try to be attentive, they're just not cutting it. I waited for 2 hours today with only 15 people ahead of me. "They had huge bags!" you're assuming. Or "the seller was just one of those finicky annoying folks who wants to argue about every item that wasn't accepted." Nah, boo. This was solely by way of these cashiers and clerks are more interested in personal conversations than professionalism. To make it all the worse, they genuinely seemed cool! They just didn't perform their jobs well. After waiting 2 hours, I still had to mull idly about as they finished their conversation (according to them, Insecure should never have ended. I agree, and that's exactly what I mean by liking them but not liking their work ethic... Or lack thereof.) I always try to make the most of my old duds before donating, but I think the people of my community are much more well-deserving than this company. Lame-o. read more

There were some good finds for sure, but I saw very cheap quality clothing that was being sold at ~$20, which I don't think is even the retail price of those pieces.
