Crotched has been open for about 20 years since it closed back in the 90s. Since that time they have made a lot of improvements and changes but a lot of things still have stayed the same. The chair lifts are starting to show their age and there are some areas of the trail that dont have a lot of options for beginners or early intermediate making it more of an intermediate to advanced trail unless you are comfortable with just going on 1-2 trails for the day as a beginner. They roll out a lot of rental equipment and some how keep it in really decent space they have an army of people doing lessons and for the most part they seem to find dencent respectful stsff to manage the facility. On the weekend it can be a long walk to the facility they can really fill up the parking lot so take advantage of the drop off area and then park. read more

Crotched is one of the least known, smaller, and most isolated ski and board areas of the Vail Resorts acquisitions, but also a fun and beautiful place suitable for everyone. During the day, families can enjoy a good active day among the variety of trails and glades. The mountain features 1,016 vertical feet with a high-speed quad, a fixed grip quad, a triple chair, a double chair, and a magic carpet. Crotched has 100 acres of ski terrain, and 25 runs, the longest of which is 1.2 miles. For a small area, it is quite versatile in its terrain, having a well-maintained terrain park among other features. All terrain is covered by an advanced snowmaking system. All the facilities are contained in one building, so keeping track of kids isn't hard to do. The resort is also regionally popular as one of the best night skiing locations in the state. Most runs and lifts have a space or astrological theme. Comet Drop, Supernova, Lift Off, Meteor, Galaxy, The Rocket, Comet, and Shooting Star are but a few of the names at the mountain. The main lodge is the basic building at Crotched. It is a huge building resembling an aircraft hangar and about the size of one. Within it, every conceivable customer service and resort management activity takes place. For beginners, two areas with lifts on each side of the mountain provide a smoother beginning. On the West side, the West Lift, a fixed double, takes the boarder/skier up to several, very scenic, green runs such as Supernova and ReEntry, as well as a beautifully maintained glade, Final Frontier. On the East side of the resort, the Valley lift, a fixed quad, leads to the terrain park, and several blue and green runs. Although small, Crotched Mountain is very well-designed and offers family amenities and comforts that would be found in larger places. Easy in, easy out. With the recent storm the trails are great. A little icy in some heavily traveled trails. Longest I stood in line was maybe 5 mins, which is nothing. Showed up in the afternoon and was able to get a parking spot right up front. Definitely will be back. Downstairs in the lodge there are cubbies you can rent which are lockable, and then there are tons of open air cubbies that are free, just keep in mind they're not secured. read more

A hidden gem in the Monadnocks, my first time, impressed! Been skiing for 4 decades and thought Crotched wouldn't be a big enough ski area to have fun; I was wrong. All trails were open despite a lack of natural now, the trails had great snow coverage and were groomed to near perfection. There's enough variety of skiing including steep drops, moguls and cruisers. The staff and lifties were very personable, not once did the lifts stop like they are constantly at the bigger resorts. Typically love this mountain because it's so affordable! Today we did the Sunday funday 1-5pm lift ticket for $33 but at 4:10 they completely shut down the Valley lift! Why so early?! The lift goes up to an easy trail but getting off the lift is difficult since it's very steep! They were also having trouble with the West lift today and they had a kids race so they shut down a trail for that too. It was a warm day so the mountain was a little icy but overall not bad. We took a break and I got the veggie pizza which was really good and fresh but not very warm. Their fries taste like Burger kings which are okay, and the burger was good, don't recommend the chicken fingers though. read more

Gone waaaaaay downhill. We used to like coming here because there were no lines and a quick drive from boston. The drive's still quick but the lines are insane! There used to be 5 lifts. Now there are only 3: a fast quad, an ancient double and a magic carpet. The terrain park was closed. That said, everyone is very friendly. The lines are now worse than wachusett which was the main reason we stopped going there. It's hard to justify waiting 25 minutes for a short icy run. I think if you only have one good lift you need to restrict the number of tickets sold. read more

I'm a beginner skier and I can absolutely see the potential here, but myself and my BF (who has been a snowboarder for many years) both agree this mountain was a big let down. If I could rate staff alone it would be better (everyone was friendly and knowledgeable), however the set up and experience were not good. There is a MAJOR lack of COVID precautions and I felt unsafe even standing outside (no one even monitoring masking). There were no clear markers for a busy weekend day and it took the about 100 people standing in a big cluster, no social distancing, with no dedicated lines for tickets, rentals, etc. by 9:30am for them to put some kind of precaution into place...and by precaution I mean separate into three lines NOT DISTANCED STILL. This was a big deal because we waited 2hrs to get in, which is fine but not when you're sardined between random people in line during a pandemic..... Additionally, the slopes were really icy, it's the outdoors, it happens, but like I said, I'm a beginner skier and I'm still learning, so it's more difficult for me to do things. Because the slopes were like this and there was again way too big of a crowd with no distancing I couldn't make it past 2 runs. So essentially I wasted $100 on rentals and lift tickets, for two small runs and to wait in a line and risk my health. I spent more time in line than on the mountain. read more

Love Crotched. An intermediate mtn but still plenty of terrain to keep it fun. I can let my kid roam free and not worry about him getting hurt or lost. The Rocket makes this a great mountain. Gets you to the top in 4-ish mins. They did have a couple issues with it early season but it's been fine last few trips. Very laid back and "young" feeling place. Kids won't get yelled at for screwing around and being kids. Good lodge, shop and bar too. Full rental shop on site for the learners. Limited crowds most days too. They have discount tickets online which will save you a few bucks at the window. And don't miss the pond skimming in the spring...! See you there. read more

Ahh... Crotched mountain. The best little mountain in the monadnock region. When the crew is on point, the snow / service can be ridiculous. When they are sucking, do not expect a good experience. You really can't go wrong riding until 3am on the weekend when it's not too cold. This is a smaller mountain great for learning to ski or ride. The park can be OK, again depending on the crew working at the time. I would recommend but not this season (17-18). The snow is super thin. read more

It's sad to see what was once an amazing mountain, run by good hearted and community oriented people become an absolute embarrassment. I'm whole heartedly disappointed with the upper management that currently operates Crotched Mountain. Some of my biggest issues lie with the untrained and unqualified, maintenance staff performing technical repairs on heavy machinery. Along with unsafe, poorly fabricated features in their terrain parks, by individuals who lack proper knowledge as well as ability. Another large reoccurring issue is upper management's response to reasonable criticism from concerned customers as well as passionate, loyal locals in their community. Ultimately nothing will change. If you're looking for a cheap ticket coupled with mediocre riding, a warehouse setting, and a general lack of a fun experience then you have come to the right place. I however would suggest a more customer oriented, exciting, and generally better experience at either Pat's Peak, or Wachusett. Crotched is an example of if you know what you are signing up for, I don't think you will be disappointed. Smaller ski hill, but four lifts that generally seem to be buzzing, good snowmaking ability, and the benefit of being north facing so not in direct sunlight all day. I am not a strong skier, I think I'm the guy for whom they invented that self-rating of 2 on the rental form, and my son is in his second year of snowboarding, so we aren't looking for killer runs. Therefore, knowing what to expect, we've been happy with Crotched the 3 or 4 times we've been there. Only 90+ minutes from the MetroWest/Worcester area, the convenience makes it an easy choice for a day trip. The "lodge" isn't really a lodge -- looks more like a utilitarian bowling alley built in the 70s or 80s. It is fairly large, with a good sized rental area on the ground floor, space with cubbies and lockers in the middle, and a shop area and ticket counters as well. Upstairs is the snack bar, the seating area, and the Onset Pub, the table service bar/restaurant. The most recent time we were in, the pub service wasn't the fastest, and the accuracy wasn't the greatest, but when wearing ski boots I will gladly sit down and order versus lugging around a tray. Plus, part of the experience really is a nice cold beer at the mountain when you take a break. They have a lot of local NH beers, which I respect; unfortunately, in the New England Region, NH may finish 6th of 6 in terms of state brewing prowess. Still, producing New England style ales gives me options and I'll take it. B's burger was good, my pulled chicken was good, and we were back on the slopes. Easy to access all of the different lifts with intermediate terrain. Three terrain parks if you are in to that sort of thing. The only place where there was really a line was the high speed quad, but that was still only a couple of chairs deep. We were basically headed back up as quickly as we could get down. The one thing that was disappointing was they maintained holiday pricing every day of the February break week. The crowd on Friday certainly didn't look like a "holiday", so we got a lot of runs in while we were there, but still a little disappointing that on what looked like an off day we couldn't use the Ski & Ride card discount we purchased at the Boston ski show. Honestly, another place where I would want to go with 3 1/2 stars, but since it is so convenient and since the crowds are generally manageable, I'll round up to a 4. read more

Yesterday was Farten Luther King Day. Thanks to Dr. King we get the day off! So I jumped in my 16 year old car and headed for Crotched Mountian. What a pretty drive. It's not too far from civilization, but you would never know it. Passing through the picture, post card perfect town centers of Amherst, Mont Vernon and Francestown is a real treat. Thanks to Peak Resorts from Missouri you can now ski at the western side of what was once the old Crotched and before that Bobcat and Onset. It was pretty fun. Not real big, but its not terribly small either. Some people are mad because the new chair lift doesnt make it to very top of the mountian. I'd say if it did it wouldn't be much different. The top is right there when you get to the top and it wouldnt be much different. Conditions were good and it wasnt crouded at all. Negative stuff is, the lodge is very ugly and un ski lodge like. Its just a metal sided building. I pretty much made up my whole demographic, but didnt feel as out of place as I would at Wachusett on a Tuesday night. The lift tickets don't even say Crotched. Just Peak Resorts. I'm sorry thats too generic for me. Anyhow it was fun i liked the trails (fun for snowboarding) and the conditions were pretty good. Coming home I made it from the Crotched parking lot to Mystic Avenue in 90 minutes and no I wasn't speeding. read more

This review is directly related to the cafe service. Two of us entered the cafe and purchased a hamburger, a cup of hot chocolate, a cookie, a soda, and a cinnamon bun. As we sat down and started eating we noticed the burger was extremely dried up and clearly has been sitting there for at least a couple hours (health codes state you can only have perishable hot foods out, I didn't bring that up to the to the worker). I politely said "excuse me, this burger is extremely dried out and I noticed the double cheeseburger in the warmer is very juicy could you please take this back and I can pay the difference between the two burgers" The lady I spoke to looked over to the lady in the grill area and they approved my wish. I gladly said thank you as I walked away. We finished all of the food and was very satisfied with the cinnamon bun so I grabbed another one and politely asked if they had any way to warm it up even though it had plastic wrap on it. The 50 year old blonde with a nasty attitude and greasy ponytail snapped at me and said "oh what are you going on about that burger still?" I looked at her and said "no need to be so aggressive and no I actually was very happy with my cinnamon bun so I was getting a second one. It's a burger NOT a cinnamon bun" as I walked about while putting the delicious cinnamon bun down back where I found it. As I was sitting back at my seat telling my friend about the story about 40 feet over I see a door opened about 4" with somebody starting at me. I made my face very clear as I looked directly at her as she closed the door leaving an echoing noice in the large room. I walked back in there minutes later and walked up to her as she said under her breath "ugh don't talk to me". I said "you have given me terrible customer service, I purchased 4-5 items and was coming back to buy another cinnamon bun and you treat me like that? I've been very polite and you treat me like this? You clearly don't know how to do your job and don't know how to provide customer service" As I walked away some kid 25 years of age yelled "loser" Pretty crazy, I understand annoying and rude customers but I was very polite and that's not how a business should be run. Very disappointed in the cafe customer service yet the mountain itself was a good time. This little mountain really packs a punch. The mileage from Boston isn't bad but its the distance off the highway that tacks on extra time going slow on back roads. I can see why some would rather stay on 93 and go to a more direct mountain. The lift ticket prices were a great deal, I believe around $53 for a weekend all day pass. The rental area was nice and spread out. The first pair of boots I tried had a broken tongue but the guy quickly took them out of stock and gave me a new pair. The mountain itself was never crowded and lines were nonexistent. I really felt I got more skiing in by not waiting around then not having to be overly cautious on a crowded slope. The greens are super for beginners who are ready to try a few blues too. If you are skiing with people at different levels you can easily go up the same lifts then meet up at an easier part midway. My husband enjoyed the jumps in the terrain area. They had a few random ones that were not part of the bigger park, so if you are an adult just cruising and want a thrill, a few jumps are offered without the mass of kids in the busier park. There is one main building that houses everything. The upstairs is the cafeteria and bar. I wish the bar could of had more of an atmosphere, it was closed in with lattice wood in a corner of the cafeteria. That aside, the bartenders were awesome and poured a mean drink. While certainly not a large ski area its plenty big for a good nights worth of skiing. Plus, the midnight madness deal is awesome. For $35 you get to ski from 9PM until they close which is 3 AM! So if you manage to stay awake the whole time you basically get a full days skiing in. So I got in a bunch of runs and didn't even have to leave work early or take a day off. It was pretty dead and I never once had to wait in a line at the lifts. That might have had something to do with the fact is was 0 degrees with 20MPH winds which made it feel even colder, but I didn't mind. When I've been other times it was never very crowded either. The only downside is the lifts are older and slower than most other mountains. I also find the staff that work there are a little special. That is not to say they aren't friendly and helpful, but some of them just have a weird vibe about them. Especially the guy who patrols/cleans the lodge area. He really looks like a dude on parole and he somehow manages to watch everyone while not ever making eye contact. Its totally weird. read more

Crotched is really a great place. I don't think I'd plan to spend an entire day there, but you can get so much riding in within a couple hours - I get totally tired out anyway. I try to get there on snow days (I'm a teacher) - especially when the woods are in. I really don't like the lodge - but it is functional. I like that I can park (often, but not always) right near the high speed lift. Pretty drive out from Manchester - quite scenic - bucolic - just be careful of the Francistown cops - speed limit is strictly enforced. read more

This isn't my favorite mountain in New England, it isn't the closest or the farthest away, it doesn't have the most vertical, but what it does have is a midnight madness (Fri - Sat 9:00 to 3:00) that is awesome. The ever present bonfire is a nice way to knock out the chill after hours of riding, and the bar serves good beer till midnight. read more

Nice intimate resort that is great for kids and families. Easy to navigate and offers good variety for all levels. However administration and management is very disorganized and most employees don't know how to operate their computer systems. I registered for lessons and rentals online and it threw the team into serious confusion. There were also long lines of parents trying to check kids into programs with staffers standing around helpless. Other ski areas have taken the effort to work through basic kinks to help checking in go smoother. Additionally if you want to try multi-day rentals you have to re-rent them each day which only adds to the lines. read more

Definitely puts the "crotchety" in Crotched! The ski lift operators bark "PAY ATTENTION" at small children (understand that safety is important but is it necessary to use a rude tone?). They're mean about little kids getting on the lifts but are they strict about clearing the mountain top off-loading area? No. So . . . this isn't the most family friendly place at all. The Radical Kids program requires that you arrive at 8:30 (they don't always stress the importance of being early but like a previous reviewer said, the lines are long and staff doesn't process people quickly), b/c parents are responsible for handling the rentals and outfitting your child for the lesson (at other resorts in the NH area for the same price, the instructors handle all of that saving parents about 40 minutes of prep time and stress). Rentals features a "self serve" boot area, b/c it's so easy to pick your own boots which have weird skate sizing! Guess what empties DIRECTLY into the bunny hill and lesson area? Yeah! The end of a black diamond run! I saw two adults crash into each other, no children, but I'm sure it's happened. Guess what else is right next to the bunny hill? Large swath of parking lot where young ski-men smoke real cigarettes. Typical deep fried ski food fried in soybean oil (for those of you with allergies). Got 3 small fries, 3 chick nuggs, a smartwater, 2 ftn drinks, seltzer, and ice cream sandwich for $57. Radical Kids instructors are lovely, and parking is easy and abundant, though, so two stars! Reasonable prices, short lift lines and a very friendly atmosphere. The instructors are very informative and make learning fun. Excellent snowboarding, excellent attention in the lodge. The variety of terrain provides something for everyone from the toddler skier to expert boarder. Crotched Mountain is not very big but has some really great trails and the surfaces are always just gorgeous. You won't find any icy spots here. Most of the time it's not as crowded as other mountains in NH... Besides tourists most locals do enjoy this mountain as well. This is a perfect place for a great ski day with the family. They also have very good food in the cafeteria at affordable prices. Crotched Mountain is definitely a hidden gem! Went to Crotched Mountain on December 30th, 2013 and their high speed lift, the Crotched "Rocket" wasn't operating for some weird reason (there was no explanation given about what was wrong with it). Since this lift goes to the top of the mountain, it limited some of the longer runs on the mountain and more difficult trails. Trails that were open were mostly geared towards beginners. Lines were shorter than at the bigger mountains however and I was able to get quite a few runs in. Would recommend for beginners and would probably give 4 stars if the Rocket was working when I went. read more

This mountain is what it is. It's a local hill with a friendly feel that allows you to get in either a full day or a half day without breaking the bank (or feel compelled to stay to the last lift to get your money's worth). The new high speed lift is a very welcome addition and cranks you up to the top in 4 minutes. Even on the busiest day the line is insignificant. Terrain is on-par to expectations with a good variety for all skills. I'm not a terrain park kind of guy but it looks like they have their act together in that area. I think every hill trying to stay in business has figured out snow making in NE. The fickleness of NE weather requires it and they do a great job here. There was one comment below on the lodge. It's a building with lockers, cubbies, seating, bathrooms, cafeteria, rental shop, store and the obligatory apres-ski bar. Free Wifi (code on the office window). Is the lodge pretty or architecturally significant - no way but it does the job. I'm here to ski. Really. (and I did have hot water in the bathroom). Verizon LTE works here (and is faster than the wifi) We ski Okemo, Sunapee, Pat's Peak and Crotched throughout the winter. It all depends on what we are looking for. Each provide their own value for what we want at that moment. For those that are not local, it can seem like a bit of a drive. And yes, there are no signs. They are exactly where they say they are via Google Maps and TomTom GPS, I expect other mapping/GPS combos are just as accurate. I had a horrible breakfast experience. They later admitted that they were not ready and apologized. Other friends have had good experiences. I didn't eat one but their burgers looked really good (and large enough to split). Very fair pricing on all accounts. Cons: - limited power outlets for those that are not skiing but on their computers. Just like an older airport, the place did not keep up with where technology was going. - Parking can be a bit of a mess on busy days. They have a "shuttle" for those on the far end of the parking lot. - the midnight madness (open until 3AM) eventually causes some employees to sleep on the floor to be ready for the next morning. They weren't ready to go in the AM. This should not be an acceptable practice. They are tired, grumpy and just not 'with' it. - On busy days, they need to engage a 'nooner groomer' philosophy. After living in Brookline, and now living in Milford, Crotched has been my go-to mountain for the past couple of years. While it's tiny, it's really fun! It's a great place for beginners...all of the trails are extremely easy. Especially the greens! The chairs are pretty fast...and the wait is never long. One thing they excel at is snow making...so if you're a serious skiier and just want to ski for a bit, Crotched is great because they are typically open before a lot of the bigger mountains that don't make snow. I have skiied there 30+ times per season and have had pretty good luck with the conditions. The only place that it's usually icy is the park, go figure, and near the top of the mountain. The best is when it's just snowed and you make fresh tracks, and all the trees are caked in powdery goodness. My only disappointment is that Crotched is becoming a large park mountain...I prefer old fashioned skiing, and I feel like I get a little less with the park being there. It's also a big racing mountain, so you always have the ski racers whizzing by you rudely. You also can be amused by the occasional child plowing down followed by a yelling parent. In the spring they offer a lot of fun activites for everyone to attend, like Big Air and the Spring Carnival, both of which are fun events! Suprisingly their cafeteria food is pretty good. The best fries ever...and delicious pizza and quesidillas. On a saturday it's filled with children running around screaming...especially around lunch time. So get your table early. The best is midnight skiing when no one is there! Even though it's small I still have a lot of fun skiing here. But they've been steadily rising prices, and I find paying $40 for a lift ticket is outrageous when I can spend twice that and ski a way better mountain. Definitely a fun ski, and good for kids though. I'd recommend it to anyone. read more

THE WORST 17 BUCKS SPENT THIS YEAR AND I'LL THINK TWICE ABOUT THIS IN FUTURE last year I skied here for the St. Patricks Day special ...bought the tickets on line beforehand as they required and had an awesome time and had been praising them ever since. But this year did the same and ended up not making the 2 hour each way treck there when the forecast was for rain and slippery travel. Contacted them and spoke to Ann and explained about the 2 hour each way drive and why I decided not to do it and asked if they would consider letting me apply the 17 towards another day of skiing and just pay any difference to meet that days ticket rate. Got a straight out ":No, all sales final". Pretty impersonal and I have to admit that I was warned about the no refund but I really thought they would work with me even just a little. I know it sounds petty but I didnt feel like i was asking for the world or even anything that would be taking any money out of their pockets. Guess I learned my lesson and dont always be fooled by something you think is great when its really just mediocre. You lost my high respect and praise for the mountain Ann; Too quick with the "NO, we're gonna take your money and run, just like we told you we would" ;-( read more

I went to Crotched yesterday, I've loved this mountain every time i've gone for years, and got a tune up for the 1st time there. Everyone was SO helpful, knowledgeable, and quick. The tune up only took 25 min and was inexpensive compared to other mountains. They did a GREAT job too! And the mountain was great as always! 10/10 read more
