However, I have a long-standing problem with all OTF studios in general. I am unable to make a single acquaintance so far. I have been hoping to find a gf or at least a friend through these workouts and sessions. So far it has not panned out. They say keep trying, but it's the mentality that OTF promotes that is to blame. Almost all members arrive on the dot at class time and leave the studio right when it ends. Certainly some of them do it out of spite. The fact remains that one will have a better chance at finding a unicorn than forging social connections through these studios. I have been going repeatedly about half a dozen or so times to the Leesburg studio. It has not worked out once. I am inherently shy so I can never get a word out to start with. Also most people either ignore me or look like they want to do bad things to me. I should clarify, Leesburg is not my home studio. I have Unlimited membership, and I pay 180$ per month for it. That is way too much in my opinion. Certainly not to get ambivalent treatment from the front desk and the coaches here. Certainly not to swing and a miss a hundred percent of a time, with all the members here. It pains me incredibly that even though I want to forge meaningful social connections through here, the mentality that OTF promotes is the exact opposite of it. I do not have anyone to partner and do the work outs with. I cannot meet or befriend anyone in these work outs, in order to partner with them in the future. Hence, an eternal catch 22, and hence a lower rating. I will likely revisit, but I cannot recommend. I am overall reconsidering my membership as I pay way too much monthly for no real benefit other than exercise, and the thing is that socially and mentally this is rather draining for me, without even a single acquaintance at OTF in general.

I'm updating my review to add back a star to 4 total. Some improvements I've noticed lately:…read more - More frequent communication on social media and elsewhere digitally to members about happenings at the gym - Equipment repairs and even replacements of things like rope attachments for cables are happening quickly - Cleanliness overall is really good; I almost always see someone cleaning something when I'm there - Staff has been very friendly and helpful I also recently got a second gym membership at Planet Fitness* and have tried out several of their locations in northern Virginia since. And it's very clear what the difference between a ~$20 membership and a ~$60 membership get you. Compared to the 'chain gyms,' TFE is: - Way cleaner and better maintained, especially the locker room - Has a sauna, always a big bonus - Has additional strength training equipment, 1:1 cables, and weights that go up higher for those of us who are more experienced *Three big reasons I sprung for the outside membership: 1) TFE hours are rough sometimes to fit into my schedule especially the weekend hours. 24/7 gym is a necessity for me sometimes, even if I have to settle for a slightly less intense facility. 2) The day passes are so expensive. I imagine I can't be the only person who has a significant other or family member who doesn't live in the area but visits frequently enough to want to come to the gym. My girlfriend lives in Arlington so it'd be crazy for her to pay this gym's membership price to workout on the weekends with me, but it's actually cheaper for me to get a black card at PF than to buy even a couple day passes at TFE. I would recommend to TFE to think up its own version of a black card to allow for unlimited guests, perhaps throw in some massages at the salon inside the facility, etc. 3) It's month-to-month so there's no risk involved to try it. I understand why non-chains can't do this though as they likely rely on the people who sign up and then never come to keep crowds down but stay operational. Overall, TFE is great and you seem to get what you pay for compared to cheaper chain gym options, but I would love better weekend hours and more flexibility in bringing occasional guests as part of the membership.
