I'm updating my review to add back a star to 4 total. Some improvements I've noticed lately: - More frequent communication on social media and elsewhere digitally to members about happenings at the gym - Equipment repairs and even replacements of things like rope attachments for cables are happening quickly - Cleanliness overall is really good; I almost always see someone cleaning something when I'm there - Staff has been very friendly and helpful I also recently got a second gym membership at Planet Fitness* and have tried out several of their locations in northern Virginia since. And it's very clear what the difference between a ~$20 membership and a ~$60 membership get you. Compared to the 'chain gyms,' TFE is: - Way cleaner and better maintained, especially the locker room - Has a sauna, always a big bonus - Has additional strength training equipment, 1:1 cables, and weights that go up higher for those of us who are more experienced *Three big reasons I sprung for the outside membership: 1) TFE hours are rough sometimes to fit into my schedule especially the weekend hours. 24/7 gym is a necessity for me sometimes, even if I have to settle for a slightly less intense facility. 2) The day passes are so expensive. I imagine I can't be the only person who has a significant other or family member who doesn't live in the area but visits frequently enough to want to come to the gym. My girlfriend lives in Arlington so it'd be crazy for her to pay this gym's membership price to workout on the weekends with me, but it's actually cheaper for me to get a black card at PF than to buy even a couple day passes at TFE. I would recommend to TFE to think up its own version of a black card to allow for unlimited guests, perhaps throw in some massages at the salon inside the facility, etc. 3) It's month-to-month so there's no risk involved to try it. I understand why non-chains can't do this though as they likely rely on the people who sign up and then never come to keep crowds down but stay operational. Overall, TFE is great and you seem to get what you pay for compared to cheaper chain gym options, but I would love better weekend hours and more flexibility in bringing occasional guests as part of the membership. read more

Great location in the One London area. Clean Facilites, friendly staff, locker rooms have a very hot sauna. Plenty of fitness classes! Since I'm just traveling for work I used classpass to try a few different classes here and they were all great. Absolutely will come back whenever I'm in the area. read more

I absolutely love the One Loudoun location of The Fitness Equation in Ashburn. It's bright, spacious, and has a fantastic atmosphere, especially with the sauna and having the salon inside is just bonus if your trying to get things done. But what really stands out to me is how much the management truly listens to its members. I've had the pleasure of interacting with Jason, the VP, multiple times over the years of being a member, and I can honestly say he really values customer feedback. This time, I reached out about the price for bringing a guest--whether it's a friend from out of town, a girls' day, a date, or even your kiddo. The original cost felt a bit too high to be reasonable for members who want to share the experience with others. Within a week of submitting my feedback, Jason actually set up a face-to-face meeting to discuss it, and he announced a new, much more reasonable policy had just launched to address it. I was able to confirm the updated policy the very next week when I brought a guest with me to work out. It was a lovely experience, and this responsiveness makes me want to use the gym even more often. It's great to know that my voice as a member is heard, and I can't wait to continue coming back to such a well-managed and welcoming gym! read more

Amazing view, clean areas and the friendliest crew!!! Joined in March since I wanted to see how much would a higher rate membership get me and I was in for a world of surprise. Early morning jogging in front of the giant panes that give a view to one loudoun and top golf look so beautiful. Also walking around and feeling a fresh aroma while pumping iron feels so refreshing. Completely recommend, may feel a little off about the contract at the beginning for 1-3 years of commitment but it is a way to ensure both parties will take responsibility of each other. When seen from working out there it seems fair, especially due to the great service all employees give. read more

My husband, two children, and myself have been using The Fitness Equation in One Loudoun for a year, and almost daily for 8 months. The staff is so welcoming and accommodating, especially great with the kids. I can't say enough good things about the childcare, they are so sweet with the kids. My 1 and 2 year old were both scared when we first started going, and now they beg to go to the gym to see Ms. Brianna and Ms. Savannah. As for the gym itself: I love that classes are included. Group fitness was a huge jump start in my fitness journey. Everything is very clean and you can tell the employees are really attentive of any issues. I recommend the fitness equation to everyone, but especially moms looking to get back into fitness after kids. I've lost 90 pounds this past year and I fully believe it's because of the support of the instructors, and childcare at the fitness equation. read more

Really nice mid-tier gym with huge basketball court, rock climbing wall, mid and body studio, and spacious HIIT studios with group workouts and really clean bathrooms and spacious lockers. I like how the chantilmy/ south riding location even has a robeks juice bar, very convenient. It would be nicer if they can include indoor and outdoor pools along with a boxing studio. Oh and the ashburn studio has an in house hair salon, which is a bit surprising but a nice additional touch. read more

As a former LA Fitness member for years, I can confidently say that The Fitness Equation (TFE) is an upgrade. Starting with the positives, TFE offers significantly higher-quality and newer lifting equipment. The gym itself is clean, with a notably better locker room. Additionally, the clientele is far more pleasant compared to the occasional obnoxious behavior I encountered at LA Fitness. I imagine this is partly due to TFE's higher membership price, which brings me to a couple of downsides. If you're looking for a more affordable gym option, LA Fitness or Planet Fitness would be better choices; TFE provides a premium experience. Another drawback is the limited square footage for lifting space. I'd be thrilled if the Ashburn location could expand to the lower floors to allow more room for equipment. I noticed the gym lacks a few crucial pieces of equipment, especially the seated plate-loaded tricep dip machine. That said, the variety of lifting equipment they do have--including accessories like the Belt Squat Machine and chain belts for tricep dips--is impressive. I'd rate it 8/10. These days, LA Fitness doesn't even offer accessories like chain belts due to theft or budget constraints, and finding a belt squat machine there is unheard of. Overall, switching to TFE from LA has been a great decision. The staff has been very friendly so far, and I'm looking forward to calling this gym home. read more

I like this gym. It is never super crowded and it has all of the equipment you'll need for a variety of workouts.

I've been a member here for a few years now. I've always enjoyed working out here because of their complete workout equipment. There is room for improvement though. Men's showers room needs an upgrade or at least some maintenance (i.e. urinals are broken). Besides that, their staff are friendly and the general workout area is always clean. Some new mats in the Crossfit room would be nice. Most of them are so used, they shed a bit while using them. I understand this goes with wear and tear. But a little upgrade would be nice. read more

TFE has been my fitness and wellness home since it has opened circa 2014! The management team of Jason and Jonathan at the One Loudoun facility has been undefeated on our requests. Also, the current Fitness manager Ed is also undefeated too! Very welcoming, inclusive, and full of knowledge, with expertise. The facility itself has never smelled any better and is always somehow clean. I equate this gym as upscale and luxurious compared to the other gyms in area. I've been here since the opening of this gym and originally signed up before it had even finished building. I never had any issues signing up, ending a membership, or anything of that sort with the staff. I still have a membership with this gym but did end a membership for someone who was under my family plan due to relocation - never had any issue with that. Before The Fitness Equation, I had a membership at LA Fitness. Going to LA Fitness was fine since it had a lot of equipment and my membership was at both the Dulles and Leesburg location, but I much prefer The Fitness Equation. I have also been a regular at Gold's Gym in Ashburn just because I had a friend who was a member there. The part where the Fitness Equation beats both of them is how you never have to really wait too long to use a specific machine on days where you weight-lift. It's honestly pretty empty at all times in comparison to most gyms I've been to, which I really like. Another way it shines over other gyms is the cleanliness. I've never had ANY issues with it being dirty or anything of that nature in the Women's changing room. Also, you don't have to bring your own lock for a locker in the changing room, which you do need to do at both LA Fitness and Gold's Gym. There's not a shortage of lockers either! There's a bunch outside of the changing rooms and if you need a bigger locker, you can just snag one inside the Women's or Men's room. I've also seen front desk staff come up and clean the machines/treadmills during their shift. I can't comment on the group classes at The Fitness Equation much since I mostly go there to do my own workouts, but I have taken a Yoga and Zumba class there with my friend and I enjoyed it. I usually go early in the morning (anywhere from 5am to 7am) or later in the evening (7pm to 9pm) and I've never had issues getting a machine. I also really enjoy their Functional Training room, which some gyms do not have. Staff is friendly and they recently added in a mini fridge near the front desk area where you can buy drinks and charge it to your account if you ever forget your water bottle (or pay by cash/card too I think). The only gripe I have are the hours. Because of my busy schedule, I wish the weekend hours were extended longer (it closes at 9PM on Saturdays and 8PM on Sundays). However, I have noticed over the years they have been working on that and I have seen them extend it. Not a huge gripe but it's something I value that the other gyms have...either open for longer hours or they have a section of the gym designated for after hours (like Gold's Gym). Overall, a happy customer and probably won't be switching gyms anytime soon unless I have to relocate. read more

My husband and I have been members since opening. The restrooms and work out areas as far as cleanliness are deplorable and need improvement. Free weights are not re-stacked, the wipes are left around on the floors and windows. This has just started to happen since Covid-19's arrival. It takes minimal effort for everyone to take responsibility for cleaning up behind themselves. We love the gym but it needs to get back to the way it use to be.....people being more responsible as adults and adhering to the rules. With that being said, TFE is a beautiful place. We have enjoyed our multiple years of membership here. There is no comparison to other gyms in the area. You never have to wait to use equipment, it's a stress-free environment, offers convenient hours of operation, and last but not least, TFE has a highly trained and professional staff who provide excellent customer care and service. Jason is the VIP at TFE. We've known him since the the gym first opened (approximately 4 years ago). He's kept an "open door " policy and is always visible and reachable to members. He is more than likely to be found on the floor than behind closed doors. He goes beyond the call of duty making sure members are provided excellent customer care and satisfaction. Jason takes pride in the reputation of TFE. He is also an extremely business minded person who will represent, support and stand compassionately behind affairs and events in the community. With the many challenges that COVID-19 has brought to TFE and many businesses alike (i. e., hiring, employee retention, vendors etc.), Jason manages to successfully address and resolve them. It would greatly help and be greatly appreciated if EVERYONE pitches in and do their very best in keeping TFE/One Loudoun rated #1! I'm a huge fan of this gym and have been a member since they open. It has a basketball court and a powerlifting area with turf on the bottom floor. It has a cafe that has closed and changed concepts a few times. My only gripe is not having many alternate squat variation machines but was told they will be refreshing their equipment. Spoke to a rep today and confirmed my monthly fee for a 12 month membership with 10% discount. Was told that I needed to sign up with the member services rep I met with initially, E. This was fine as E gave me a business card with a label on it that said $0.00 sign up fee. Walked in. Saw E Stated my name and told him I was here to sign up. Went upstairs to his desk. Told him about my previous conversation. 12 month membership $59/month with discount. He pulls out a binder and says something about giving me a visualization. This is where it gets interesting. Immediately felt like one of those timeshare gigs where they pull out the gotcha binder and you feel like you just wasted your time. Listened to his line then told him I didn't want their FitIQ package. E goes back to the sign up fee at which time I present him with his business card with a $0.00 sign up fee label on it. E now starts heading down the "either or" path where he indicates it's either pay for FitIQ or pay the sign up fee. I cut the conversation. Tossed E's business card on his desk and tell him he can keep it and walk. There are plenty of good gyms in the Northern Virginia area. Find one with upfront fees and sales people. read more

Shady sales techniques and deceiving membership service. They'll try to mislead you into a multi-year contract that cannot be canceled. Even after the contract is up they'll continue to charge you month-to-month and you have to contact another separate company to stop the charges. They'll probably try to defend all of this in some way but to prospective members just be warned, the entire business model is very shady. Also pursuing legal action over a gym membership is ridiculous. read more

As a customer, the Fitness Equation is a business, and they do require a contract for membership. Be careful of what you sign up for, they will pursue you for the total amount, regardless of reason or circumstances. Facility is ok, and the staff for the most part is nice. My whole experience with them after the fact that we withdrew from membership due to a family tragedy did not register. In fact, they pursued the balance of the contract with dog of an attorney, and with additional attorney fees. So my advice, to prospective people joining this gym, be sure to check your contract. The gym is on the pricier side, but you do get a lot of amenities for what you're paying for. They've recently added new machines and work quickly to fix the broken machines. Our only complaint has really been related to cancelling the contract due to moving out of the area. You have to provide documentation proving you're moving and will owe 35% of whatever fees are left on your contract. We thought this was a little excessive for a gym membership cancellation, but Jason K. was very helpful regarding our concerns/complaints and helped to get the cancellation request taken care of! read more

Eh...I am the market for a new gym so I checked this one out. I checked them out online and the facility seemed nice and their website boasts no fees No maintenance fee No processing fee No annual fee ( via their website) I spoke to sales over the phone and was told they could do a membership for 1.55 a day. I show up at 5:15 and the place was practically empty. I never seen a gym so empty. I asked the front desk person if he liked it and was told..."everything is new" which while nice is not a yes or a no. I took a tour and it looked nice even though my current facility has way more equipment but my current gym also has way more people. My first thought was...are there enough ellipticals for everyone??? After the tour, they showed me the pricing. Now they didn't exactly lie BUT...it was beyond sketchy...the rate they quoted me was for three years....who signs a three year lease for a gym??? They had two and one year but for more money...I would never even sign a two year contract for a gym-crazy. They lied about having no fees, there is an enrollment fee of 120.00 and initial payment of 99.00 so not so much no fees they have fees but just different names. The one year lease is mid 60s per month. If you have to break your contract, you pay 30% of the remaining term or they claim you can transfer it to another person (also crazy so you can sublease gym memberships) At this point, all my intuition told me to get OUT of there. I made up some excuse...I had to think about it...the guy told me why not fill out the paperwork and then just text me yes or no (lol do I look stupid). Also he stated the reason it was empty was that their kid gym was open all the time instead of closed from 12-4...okay...but their demographic from the three people there seemed early 20s so....okay...and they would not let me leave there with the pricing sheet (also weird) don't worry I took a picture and attached it to this review But for me, no. Contract options crazy. No one is signing a three year gym contract, pricing structure ridiculous, deceptive sales techniques ( more used car lot then gym). read more

I have been a member of The Fitness Equation in Ashburn since moving during the summer of 2022 to One Loudoun. I love the convenience of walking there! The front desk staff are friendly, professional and very helpful. I have found classes that meet my needs & really enjoy them. I love "Barre" with Marilyn & "Deep Stretch" with La Toria. I recently tried "TFE Cycle Express" and "TFE Strong Express" with Doreen and love both those classes. All 3 instructors are wonderful!! Plus I have met many nice people in the classes. read more

Upstairs has a TON of weights, kettle bells and there are a PLETHORA of machines- both muscle and cardio....I love doing my cardio looking out over the 'burbs from the second high second story.
