false advertising, dangerous and apathy. I didn't give them one star for 3 reasons. 1) the girls at the check-in were very nice and cheerful 2) many of us yelpers don't give credit to 1 star reviews as they are often for ridiculous reasons, written by people who are mad at the world (I am not--in my 700 reviews my average is 4.5 stars!) 3) The boat had a nice/new top (canopy). We have rented boats from Crowley 3 times before this episode. Each time the boats were dirty but functional with no significant issues. This time we rented the polar craft with the nice big engine (90hp). It is advertised to hold "4-6" people with a chair in the front (we have rented this boat before and the chair in front is very useful especially if there are more than 2 of you fishing). There is no way the boat could accommodate 6 as advertised as there are at most 5 chairs and their legal paperwork even says no one can be in the bow when moving so 4 would be the max. Luckily we were only 4, but no seat in the front--we whined about it but the dock hand just said that "this is how it is". We asked if we could move one of the back chairs and he said we could try but that it wouldn't move. We asked about the fish finder and he said it really didn't work. After more complaints by us about the chair and fishfinder he just said "I just work here and this is how the boat is". He proceeded with the standard safety drill and finally told me none of the instruments worked except the bilge pump and not to leave it on for long. BTW the boat was filthy, several generations of birdsh#t and spiderwebs all over the boat including on the seats, on the steering wheel and even on the instrument panel. They make sure that you sign the "no-refund form" several times so we went reluctantly on. The steering had so much play in it that it made it difficult to steer at best and even dangerous at times. We could only use 50% of the power or else the boat raised up so much those in the back would be in danger of falling out and even when standing, the driver could not see forward. Of course the motor pitch (up or down) didn't work. So we puttered out being passed by tiny boats all day. When we came in that afternoon-a couple hours early- the deck hand helped dock the boat. I told him about the huge amount of play in the steering and he responded that all their boats had that much play. I responded that I had been driving boats since I was 8 year old, and had even rented from Crowley and that this boat #75 was not like the rest and it was dangerous. He refuted this and said "the boats are rented everyday and they're all like that" (essentially telling me I'm wrong, blowing me off and in his mind justifying the sad shape of their boats). So as I passed his tip jar I made sure to reciprocate in the "blow off". We've caught a lot of fish here before but with the shape of these boats and employee attitude we will definitely NOT be back!!!! read more

Crowley Lake was the only spot left had fishing licenses. We stopping at three places and finally referred to Lake Crowley. Upon arrival, the clerk was very considerate to us and the two older kids that needed their licenses. I noticed a rental sign , I inquired and we were able to rent one for the next morning. Don't waist your time going to this junkyard. There are plenty of stray dogs running around and no one picks up their poop. Do not get me started with the cigarette buds... they are ALL over the campsite. It is a horrible place for families. Employees walk around looking into campsites just spying on guests. I wouldn't even go back if it was free. The manager/owner is completely unprofessional. I was fraudulently charged $100 for a "disturbance" fee. I say fraudelent because she itemized it as parking. I attempted to discuss the charge, but the manager, Abbie refused to talk. Instead of talking with me she insulted me and my family. The only positive experience was the night sky views. read more

We've been coming here for several years and it has always been an outstanding experience. Crowley is an incredible fishery that is unique in an area that has numerous fishing opportunities. Everyone you come in contact with, from the guys at the front gate and the ladies in the tackle shop, to the guys that work on the boat docks are top notch people with helpful and friendly attitudes. The boat rental process is quick and easy, and the prices are excellent (especially when you consider the crazy prices other boat rental operators are charging in the area). Additionally, given the wind conditions at the lake, the feature where you can extend your half day rental to a full day for $20 is an incredible value. Oh, and the fishing is great. We usually catch a bunch of quality browns, cutthroat's and rainbows. Just got back yesterday and we'll be going back in about 10 days. read more

My family and I, along with friends (4 adults and 4 children total), stayed in Cabin 2 at Crowley Lake Fish Camp from July 10-13. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing due to multiple sanitation and safety concerns. On the first night, we noticed dark debris on the stairs, which we later realized were droppings. The following morning, we found a mouse on the stove eating food left out overnight. We also heard scratching in the walls and ceiling. When we reported the issue, staff gave us two mouse traps, paper towels, and Lysol--but no one was available to help us in person. We ended up cleaning the cabin ourselves and caught three mice during our stay. We contacted the owner, Abby, who dismissed the issue and refused a refund, citing a strict cancellation policy. She claimed she'd never heard of rodent problems in the cabins and suggested the mice may have followed us in--an implausible and frankly unacceptable response. A staff member later admitted he uses water traps outside his own trailer to catch mice nightly, which only confirmed this is a known issue on the property. In addition to the rodent problem, the hot water heater was not working upon arrival. No gloves, masks, or safety equipment were offered, despite us handling the infestation ourselves. I would not recommend this property to anyone until serious steps are taken to address these health and safety concerns. I have reported this incident to Mono County Public Health and encourage others to do the same if they've had similar experiences. read more

It is especially great because I haven't been able to get on a boat in seven years. I am in a wheelchair and they helped me get on the boat with our ramp. You do have to watch out for the shallow areas due to the underwater plants getting stuck on the propeller. Lucky we didn't have that problem. Just got back from another weekend after the opener trip. My annual trip to Lake Crowley was another zero due to the weather (high winds)......again. Literally blown off the lake. Last year almost capsized a 30 hp rental due to high winds and white caping waves. Oh and it seems like the fish stocking is lacking. The ladies in the office are always cheerful and helpful. Boat staff is also great. My only complaint is that i wish Crowley Lake would refund boat rental money when the weather is too terrible and unsafe to go out on the lake. I realize it's hard to predict the high winds in that area but Im sure many share my thoughts. As it stands a few in our annual group will no longer reserve boats. read more

Wife and I went up to Crowley to do some fishing for mothers day weekend and had a great day on Saturday the 10th until we tried to get back to camp. We fished until about 6:45 at the North end of the lake and when we tried to get back to camp the wind was blowing so bad that my wife and I did not feel safe on the lake so we emergency beached our private boat at chalk cliffs and called the Mono County Sheriffs for a ride. The Sheriff department gets 5 stars for helping us out. The next morning at 6am we drove over to the marina and talked to the guy working at the docks about getting a ride out to my boat so that I could get it back before the 40+mph winds were supposed to show up in just a couple hours. If I could give 2 separate reviews I would give the ladies working in the marina store 5 stars for trying to help my wife and I out on Mother's day and 0 stars to the dock staff and the "manager"(who was not on site). I paid the $100 for a tow/ride to my boat and then was told by the guy at the dock that his "manager" said that they wouldn't be able to give me a ride for a few hours, eventhough they only had 3 rental boats reserved for the entire day. I got my refund and then the ladies said why don't you just rent a boat and go out there. I thought why not and paid for the rental boat and walked down to the dock again and the guy working again says that they could not and would not allow me to use a rental boat to go rescue my boat. I inquired why that was and he said again that the "manager" said so. I tried to explain that if I didn't get out there soon that the wind was coming and I would not be able to get it until maybe the next day if I was lucky. He did not care and just said there was nothing he could do. He was very rude and had a terrible attitude. My wife and I had to hike 1.5 miles to rescue our boat as my truck could not make it up the very poorly maintained road. I will never buy anything or recommend a boat rental from this place ever again. It's very disappointing that they don't care about their customers. I've been fishing at this lake for almost 30years and have had great success. Might be time to find a new lake. read more

No complaints! We rented a cabin for a getaway and the check and checkout process was super easy. We were able to park the car in front of the cabin and unload. If you are like hubs...there is zero way around of not wearing DEET here. The bloodsuckers are thick af. I am a gifted princess who never gets bit, but my poor bae survived with DEET. Our cabin (aka tiny house) was older but had plenty of room and an awesome screened in front porch. Most people hear are fishing...but being the veggies we are, we rented a covered pontoon and flew the drone and relaxed. The water is not clear like that area of Lake Meade...thus we couldn't watch hubs brand new professional drone sink to the bottom of the lake when it somehow slid off the edge of the pontoon. This review is of our visit on 9/6/2020. We are from out of town and were looking for a boat rental for 6 adults and 1 school age child, toddler, and baby. We found this location and we paid a rental fee of $275.00 for a boat at around 3:30 pm. We were informed that we were not allowed to dock off shore which was completely fine with and we did not care for since we had little ones and the guys wanted to take advantage of the little time we had to fish from the boat. When we approached the boat we were given life jackets and got in. The male did not inspect the boat at any point when we were waiting or got in the boat. Upon return we removed our life jackets and my husband was given the all clear. The next day we had a charge on our debit card of $75.00. My husband called and was informed that they were charging us for docking the boat and that there was some damage to the propeller. We did not dock the boat at any point during our time there and the whole time we used the boat it worked well. My husband explained this to him and he said there was nothing he could do. I highly advise that you have them inspect the boat in front of you before you get on and afterwards so you don't drive back home and a day later find an additional $75 charge for something you didn't do. Take pictures if you need to and ask for the person's name that is releasing the boat to you and the name of the person you return it. They need to be held accountable. If they are not doing their inspections as they should and only doing at the end of the day it is not fair to charge the last person that used that boat. This is why I am rating 1 star. read more

Crowley Lake is a premier Stillwater trout fishery in the eastern Sierra. For the past 20 years, my family and I have been plying the waters of Crowley from shore, by kayak, float-tube, powerboat, and even guided trips for the consistently quality rainbows, browns, and cutthroats. It's been a long time since the Topp family was running this lake, and Tim Alpers was dumping his big beautiful hatchery fish I to the lake. But like the outcropping of pumice, tuff, and sand that line this big lake, the business has weathered changes in ownership, regulations, and climate with grace. I had occasion to stop into the lake shop this weekend for a quick cup of coffee at 6 am before hitting the water. As always, the ladies in the store were sweet and friendly. Fishing was tough this weekend, with scattered storms and a stiff south breeze that shut down the lake by mid morning, but the rain didn't dampen anyone's spirits. Even the guys running the gate station are always positive, no matter how bad the wind or the fishing get. Dry camping at Crowley is very spartan-- pit toilets, fire rings, and a picnic table rounds out the offerings on the hill above Whiskey Bay. Strangely, there was no toilet paper in the restrooms this trip... Not like them. Crowley Lake camping is not for everyone-- there is no shade, the ground is gravel and sand, days are hot and nights are cold. There are clouds of gnats (midges actually) that don't bite but they... Well, they bug... Scorpions will find your shoes if you leave them out overnight. But if you can set up your tent, weigh down your Easy-Up with buckets of sand or weights, make a big fire, cook over an open fire, enjoy a few cold beers, and wet a line for some big trout, you might want to give Crowley a look. Currently, the water level in Crowley is way down... We need a few good winters of snowpack and rain to get things back the way they should be. Most folks that drive north on the 395 are heading for Mammoth or Yosemite, so unless you're a hardcore trout angler, you can probably find nicer camping at one of the hundreds of other public and private campsites in the Owens valley. Ultimately, this is fine with me. All you people that made your August Yosemite reservations back in April so you can camp under trees? That's cool with me. I like the solitude, and all those nice big fish to myself. read more

Great RV Park RIGHT ON LAKE CROWLEY with lots of trout, some trophy size. The Park is well maintained and they have a camp/fishing store that is fully stocked and has anything a fisherman would need. You can't get a better location. read more

We called Crowley Lake fish camp and reserved a boat for July 14, 2020 to see the columns and do some trout fishing. We reserved the 18-foot Gregor with fish-finder, 60 HP outboard and Bimini top. They were very accommodating as to full-day or half-day our choice decide when we get there. We stopped by the tackle shop the day before to get our fishing licenses. Emily there was very helpful with local information a map and suggestions as to bait! She was friendly and courteous and remembered our names. We arrived for fishing on Wednesday we were assigned their newest boat had a brief instruction and we were on our way. We spent a couple hours exploring the columns and the lakeside, we seen a bald eagle on a ledge overlooking the lake. Then we headed out to deeper water where we drifted with nightcrawlers on 4 lb test line. We caught and released two nice brown trout and a beautiful Sacramento perch. We return to the dock at 5 p.m. the dock attendant was waiting helped us dock and helped us out with our equipment he was very helpful. We would enjoy Crowley Lake again and the service from the Crowley Lake fish camp and tackle shop! Thank you! read more

After 8 days of boondocking at another lake we decided to get a RV spot at Crowley Lake which was $45 a night for full hookups, or so we thought!!! The water pressure was non existent it just dripped out then stopped altogether. So when my husband went to the front gate see what was going on with it he was quickly dismissed by the lady working there. Very helpful- used their advice on a midge zebra type fly and got a nice cutthroat and rainbow trout. Old school customer service- so rare from my parts (LA). Crowley is a great lake. It's huge! There are several places to fish in the lake but most people like the Sandy Point area. Pelican seems to offer some perch. Try to stay away from Alligator Head unless the trout are biting there. AH has tons of mosquitoes gone crazy. Could be because it's near the outhouse or because the fish are plentiful there. All I know is that I was glad to have left the area. The war wombs are still evident on my arms and legs. Boat rental usually cost $90 for a regular boat. They have party boats too...great for a good time with friends who love to fish also. read more

Upon entering our cabin after check-in, there was a strong urine odor present by the sink counter. We've noticed that the countertop next to the stove was wet. I had quickly cleaned the area with sanitizer wipes assuming the odor was from something that was left dirty after previous occupants and did not want our kids to be disgusted. On the second evening of our trip, the smell came back again in the same area. We were preparing to make BBQ and had invited our friends who were staying with their RV. While everyone was preparing to have a great and relaxing time, everything went in a complete opposite direction. We had noticed mice on the sink counter and on the top of our food supply. Mice quickly run away and hide underneath the stove. We did not want to make a scene because our children are terrified and have a phobia of mice and rats, therefore, we keep doors and windows always shut. We tried to keep calm so children wouldn't notice, and refuse to stay in the cabin. We had to throw away our meat supply worth $166.77 (receipt attached, and I've stated that you can see the uncooked meat in plastic bags in the dumpster). After the encounter, we walked to the front gate trying to reach someone and inquire who should be informed of this. However, there was no one at the gate. (Yes, this was before 9pm). I do not recall the exact time as we were all very bothered by the experience. We had to plan with our friends who were staying in their RV to see if our kids can stay with them in case they see these mice. Lastly, in the morning we were trying our best to clean the cabin so the next guests would not have such experience. We were greeted by the cleaning lady stating that the office would charge me additional $65 for the late checkout. I explained to her that we were cleaning the premises and did not want kids to go inside the cabin and see mice. Yes, it did take us longer to vacate the cabin as we were guarding all night in the kitchen while kids were at sleep and did not have time to pack. Additionally, I want to reiterate the fact that I did not appreciate the owners unprofessional and rude approach in front of our kids and friends. I have explained to her that I do not wish to discuss this matter Infront of our kids, as they would be more traumatized and will not be will to accompany us in the future. I have offered her to come inside the cabin so she can see the mice with her own eyes, but she had refused to do so. First you claimed that the cabin is "mouse proof" and then went on saying that "when you stay in nature these types of things are normal". I want you to know that I am a rough country person in nature, and I come to Bishop at least twice a month. I've stayed at almost all lodges and cabins in eastern sierra. I know most property owners and managers around the area as I do spend significant time in that region. My experience and social media reviews of all locations around the area are nothing short of exceptional and I wish I could have done that for your location as well. I would not mention having spiders in beds and little bats living in the patio opening (You have 4), because after all we are in the wilderness. However, having mice inside the cabin contaminating food and everything around is simply unacceptable. This is a real health hazard, but you kept mentioning that if we would have told you earlier, you could have set mouse traps in the cabin. This is after mentioning to you that I don't want my kids to know there are mice in the cabin. She went on to charge $450 for 2 nights and additional $65 bringing the total to $515.
