This was both my daughter's first preschool experience. The outdoor space has brought such a fun nature inclusion to their days. My girls both have loved the large sand area, outdoor play kitchen, canoe, climber, ramps for toy cars, and so much more. I love that outdoor space is available rain or shine for these true Seattle kids. The fully fenced backyard is large, private, secure and so much fun. The indoor space is inviting and well laid out. The Teacher has activities geared for children with all kinds of interests. There is science exploration, a lovely variety of books in the library, playdough, large and fine motor activities, and circle time. It is a gift to go to a school that feels like my children can safely learn and grow, their ideas matter, and where I can build my "village" and community. read more

Crown Hill Cooperative Preschool - Preschools Near Me - Seattle, Washington

This is our first co-op preschool experience and we're in the toddlers class. We enrolled in Crown Hill Explorers because it's Nature Explorer certified (finding a nature centric preschool was important to us, but we weren't old enough for the UW forest school) and because it's twin friendly. Twin friendly for us means an accepting and welcoming community for twins to appear with only caretaker adult in class. Additionally next school year we'll still have a drop off day. There is a wide variety of activities inside and outside for the children to do. I appreciate that each adult job for the school is clearly defined in its handbook. When you're at school with your child you have a specific role to fulfill, with setup and cleanup and discussion instructions listed right on the wall. The price, location, and structure works well for our family. We plan to stay until our kids age out. read more

Please note that I only went once, in the first week of school. Very chaotic and haphazard, disorderly and hectic. The teacher seemed more preoccupied with setting up the space and talking to the parents present than focusing on the children. Outdoor space is nice and large, though somewhat dangerous for young children who don't always look at where they are running (exposed roots, a drop at the edge near the fence to the neighboring property about 3-4 inches wide. Indoors, a play room is offered with cute murals (Corduroy, Dr Seuss...) and about 6 plastic rocking horses! Fun, from the looks of it. Snacks were fine, but not what we are accustomed to giving our little (Cheerios, fish crackers, raisins, craisins). read more

We love this Coop. My son has a great time and always looks forward to seeing the teacher on preschool days. I like the different themes each week for the crafts, storytime and songs. Last week was all about snow and next week will be about friendship. The coop is a great support network for me and the parent education component is a great safe place to discuss parenting questions and bounce ideas off other parents and of course the teachers. read more

Crown Hill Coop Preschool is a wonderful school for 1-3 year olds. Our family is so happy to have found this school and Teacher Janice. If you are looking for a school and teacher who engage the kids in outdoor play and exploration this is for you. The outdoor space is amazing and bigger then other schools in the area. Teacher Janice is also one in a million. With having so many choices on where to send kids,especially for their first school experience, Janice is so warm and welcoming. We just finished 2 years at this preschool with Teacher Janice. The space is bright, welcoming, clean and SAFE. Most of all though, Teacher Janice is the best. She is very thoughtful in her approach - and a nurturing person with an open mind. She plans activities around themes and includes everyone. It wasn't until my oldest moved on from Crown Hill Co-Op that I fully grasped how wonderful this school is. Teacher Janice makes it such a special space for our little ones, and I couldn't be happier with their first introduction to school. Great outdoor area, several rooms inside with different set ups that the kids are able to freely explore, and my children love mimicking back circle time songs at home. Great neighborhood co-op with a great teacher who is really dedicated to the school and has been there for years. Kids go outside almost every day, and a lot of work has been done to add new nature focused activity areas to the outdoor space. Because parents are involved and stay in the classroom, it is very reasonably priced. My older child went through this program and my younger will be following in her footsteps. read more

We have loved our year in the toddler program at Crown Hill Co-op, and plan to return next year to the Pre-3s class. Class starts every morning with outside time in the amazing outdoor classroom. My kiddo loves it out there, and is always discovering different areas to play in each week. His favorites are digging in the mulch, playing with the trucks in the gravel, the basketball hoop placed at toddler height, and the big sandbox. They are just this spring doing updates to the garden and adding a greenhouse. After outside time is snack, and then we split up for free-choice time, with half the parents going into parent education. There's a big room for climbing and riding horses, a dramatics/table toys/library room, an art/sensory room, and a blocks/cars/train table/etc. area in the hallway. Afterward, we do circle time, where Teacher Janice is the star. The kids love her, and it's obvious she loves the kids. She has a theme for each week, and she changes up the things in the rooms and the songs/stories in circle time to go with the theme. She also indulges their whims, taking requests for certain songs again and again. She can bring even the most nervous of tots out of their shell. My kiddo loves preschool, especially circle time, and spends the week talking about Teacher Janice and preschool and singing all the songs. It's been wonderful to watch him grow through the year in the class, becoming more confident and trying new things. Teacher Janice has also been the teacher here forever, so she has a lot of institutional knowledge, which is a great asset to the co-op, as the parents change from year-to-year (even though many return for each new child). I definitely recommend taking a tour to see the space and watching a class! read more
