Our daughter, Aviana, joined Willow Tree in 2021, during COVID, as part of the first Tiger class when she was three years old. After a wonderful nanny-share at home--where we could closely observe and control every aspect of her day--my wife and I were understandably nervous about transitioning her to preschool. We did extensive research and toured nearly ten preschools and daycares. Willow Tree immediately stood out. From the very beginning, it was clear that the director, Liu, and the entire staff were genuinely loving and attentive caregivers. From her first day, Aviana loved going to school. Her development accelerated noticeably--she made friends, gained confidence, and even happily ate the school-made lunches. We initially had questions about the Mandarin immersion program and whether it might delay Aviana's English development. Liu reassured us that the opposite would be true, explaining that children's brains at that age are "like sponges," capable of absorbing far more than we often realize. She was absolutely right. Aviana's English continued to flourish, and her Mandarin grew from zero to a working knowledge of the language--truly incredible. To sum it up: if we had to do it all over again, we would choose Willow Tree without hesitation. Two years later, we enrolled our younger daughter, Amelia, when she was just a year and a half old. She began in the Bunny class, moved on to Penguin, and is now in Tiger. She loves it. Her Mandarin is now as strong as her English, even though we speak only English at home. On more than one occasion, I've caught Amelia dreaming in Mandarin--a constant reminder of how much she has learned in such a short time. Willow Tree has provided an exceptional academic and developmental foundation for both of our girls, along with a truly welcoming and supportive community. As Amelia prepares to graduate, we know we'll remain connected through the friendships our daughters have built and the families we've come to know beyond the classroom. Willow Tree preschool has been a great experience for our daughter. She joined the Penguin class just after she turned 2 years old and her Mandarin Chinese has blossomed from the exposure at the school. I'm so surprised how much Chinese she can understand and speak and she can even sing songs in Chinese. While I can speak Chinese, I usually forget to so it's great to know she's able to learn it at school. The teachers we've been exposed to at WT have all been warm and inviting. Our daughter doesn't warm easily and the transition was long and difficult but the teachers embraced her with love and care. I was a little skeptical at first to hear there were 20 kids, such a big class, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Because there are 20 kids, there are also 3-4 teachers. By having extra teachers, this helps when a kid or two are having a meltdown or just need a little extra love and attention. With some of the kids in the class being older and being able to better regulate and play with themselves, this left the extra teachers to help with the younger, new kids who needed extra help. We attended a different preschool briefly before WT where there were 7 kids and 1 teacher and that teacher seemed to just be in survival mode because they couldn't get to all the kids that needed attention or assistance. Whereas the WT teachers always seemed happy and had good energy. We also love Liu, the director. She cares deeply for the kids and brings amazing energy. My daughter is in their Bunny class and we have had a wonderful experience to date. The teachers are very communicative and we catch up frequently on her development, interests, and areas for more monitoring. The teachers have been so kind to her and to us, and I feel confident and comfortable knowing she is in a safe and nurturing space. She has gotten exposure to music, dancing, reading, art and of course - language and culture. My daughter has learned a lot of mandarin in school and often surprises me with the new words she learns! Where she has development areas, they have also told me about them and what they've done to help. This is the first time we have ever left a negative review online. Unfortunately, our experience with Willow Tree Bilingual Preschool New location) was deeply disappointing and, at times, traumatizing for our family. We understand that not every school is the right fit for every child. However, we felt that the school's management failed our family in significant ways. The playground is too small for children over 3 years old, and on rainy days, the children seemed to spend almost the entire day indoors, which is especially concerning during the winter when rain is frequent. We also found the teaching to be insufficiently engaging and not well designed for young children. For example, circle time was often overly long, and children ages 2.5 to 4.5 were taught in the same way in the class, with the teacher simply lecturing and reading rather than using methods that were appropriate for young children. Most importantly, we were deeply hurt by what we felt was a lack of understanding about how to appropriately guide and support children ages 3 to 5. When problems arose, the school seemed to place the responsibility on the parents rather than reflecting on how the school itself could better help. We were contacted repeatedly about our child's "misbehavior" and were expected to correct everything immediately, while the class itself seemed to lack the resources and knowledge needed to support an overwhelmed sensitive child. We put in a great deal of time, energy, and effort, yet it became clear to us that the school was not capable of supporting our child and viewed him more as a burden than as a 3-year-old who needed care, patience, and understanding. Looking back, I regret trusting this school and doubting my child, especially after seeing how much better he is doing and how much he is thriving in a new environment where he has more outdoor time and is treated with patience and support, while he had shown many regressions in Willow Tree. I only wish we had left sooner. I hope the administrator understands that running a preschool is not just about business, but also about professionalism, responsibility, and conscience. read more

We've been at this daycare for about 8 months, and it has honestly meant a lot to our family. Our daughter is in the Bunny Class, and the teachers there are amazing. They are always smiling, warm, and full of positive energy. You can feel that they truly care about the kids, not just in what they say, but in how they show up every day. They are incredibly patient and attentive. They take time to understand each child and are always willing to listen to parents. It never feels rushed or dismissive, which we really appreciate. One of the things that stands out the most is how loving they are. They comfort the kids, hold them, and pay attention to their little personalities and needs. That kind of care is hard to find and means everything as a parent. We also love how engaging the program is. There's a lot of singing, reading, and creative activities. The crafts are so thoughtful and creative, and we end up keeping almost all of them. They also celebrate different holidays, and the monthly themed photos are something we really look forward to. This is the best Chinese immersion preschool in Seattle. Why? Glad you asked. I've got two kids at this school. Kid one is 5 and the kid two is 1.7 years old. I'm a white guy and the wife is Asian, but not that kind of Asian. Well, ethnically that kind of Asian but culturally 1st gen Khmer. Anyway... I put Kid 1 into a Chinese immersion school so I could practice Mandarin, which I had been learning since he was born. And of course experiencing other cultures, yada yada. We started at Washington International, which was good if you had the right teacher, but we wanted something better from the school itself. When Kid 1 started there, he came home absolutely ecstatic and told us all the things he did. But we already knew because we were watching his day through regular updates on an app. Not just an occasional photo like you'd get with Rover or whatever, but eeeevrything. You get photos and videos yeah, but you also see their schedule for the day. You see their mood, what and how much they ate (yeah they cook all of their food in-house), when and how long they napped, and you see when they went to the bathroom and what they accomplished in there. Well, you don't SEE it they tell you. Activities here are plentiful, and your kid can do extras like soccer or dance class. They do occasional field trips to the near by park where you'll pick them up sopping wet from the wading pool. Every day they bring home something to show you that they made in school. Kid 2 just started last year, and is blossoming here. When I drop him off he just walks towards the bunny class door and is literally greeted by the teachers with open arms. He doesn't even look back and is ready to get to work right away. But my favorite part is the holidays. They go ALL OUT for each holiday, both American and Chinese. They decorate so much that it makes our house boring when they come home. Both parents and teachers go all out for each birthday too. Graduations are huge here. They spend weeks practicing dance numbers, wear amazing costumes, and give the kids the best send-off possible. The director of this place, Liu, handles business. She is always there interacting with the kids and genuinely loves each one of them. We've seen her deal with some pretty stressful issues over the past few years, and was always communicative and decisive. Angela, the Assistant Director, wakes me up in the morning with her energy and is always on top of the instruction the kids receive. She is quick to relay both positive and constructive feedback so you're not trying to wade through all the politeness. She genuinely cares about creating a community for the kids and their parents and will bend over backwards to ensure they are over-prepared for kindergarten. All of the other teachers here are fantastic. This school is a magnet for talented teachers that want your kid to learn and have fun. We couldn't be happier and are going to miss this place when Kid 2 graduates. read more

We had a great experience with the new school on 85th. The teachers are all so enthusiastic, kind, and patient. My son learned so much and truly enjoyed all the arts, play time, park visits, and soccer practice. He speaks Mandarin now at home! The new building is really nice and it has only three classrooms so it has a cozy friendly feeling but the classrooms are huge so the kids have a lot of space to play even indoors. I also really loved the food. They feed the kids Chinese food and delicious hot meals. Additionally for an added fee they have longer hours for those who have to work early or later which is a great option. read more

I've been working at Willow Tree for a while now, and it has really become more than just a workplace to me. I feel happy coming in each day, knowing I get to help our kiddos grow and learn with love and patience. It's a very special feeling. One thing I really appreciate is our teacher-to-student ratio. We love Willow Tree and recommend this school/daycare to everyone! Our son, Cedar, has been so happy, engaged, and loving the care at Willow Tree. When we used to take him to a different daycare, he cried for over 2.5 months at drop off. On the 3rd day of Willow Tree, he willingly went to the teacher and waved "goodbye!" It was the relief we needed. Since then, Cedar runs to school from the car and we can see a huge change in how happy he is. My child attended Willow Tree preschool (85th ave location) for two months. I withdrew him because this school did not adequately protect my child from a teacher's behavior. I'm sharing this so parents can make an informed decision on who to trust with their child. I wish I had been made aware of prior incidents (at the 15th ave location) before entrusting my 2.5 year old to them. According to one teacher's report, there were several incidents involving the lead teacher's behavior towards my 2.5 year old. These included: * Yanking child around and screaming * Withholding snacks because he didn't clean up on time * Throwing sand on him and saying "how do you like that" * Putting a cushion and another kid on top of him as retaliation for him jumping on some kids on the couch while he was crying and calling for another teacher to save him After this behavior was reported to the director: * The administration sent an email to all parents stating there was "no evidence of harm to any child" and the "teacher is moving to a non-teaching, administrative role" (only later did we find out the teacher was the assistant director, and that the incidents mainly involved our child). * This email also included that "Last year, concerns were raised about one teacher's conduct. After review, we removed the teacher from the classroom, provided additional coaching/training, and issued a formal warning. The new campus operates as a separate legal entity, and its HR records are maintained separately." * Since the e-mail had no details, and since our child had shown some erratic behavior at daycare recently, we responded 4 hours later asking if our child was involved. We soon get a response saying "let's meet in person tomorrow". * At the meeting, the director detailed the above incidents, all involving our child, with the (accused) teacher in the room, defending and denying her actions. They said that they had been about to reach out to us to schedule this meeting when we responded to the original email. * The director seemed very upset at the junior teacher who reported this, blaming her for not coming forward sooner, but I also would be afraid to come forward if this was the response. * One week after we withdrew our child and reported these incidents to the licensor, one administrator resigned in protest to how the entire incident was handled, and the offending teacher was let go (unclear if she resigned or was fired). Bad teachers happen and are hard to screen for, but good administration can take action to protect children and we do not believe this administration is protecting children: * This teacher was made the lead teacher of the new campus despite having been recently (last year) placed on leave at the other campus. * Initially, this teacher was promoted to assistant director in response to the alleged behavior * The administration did not proactively reach out to the parents of the impacted children (just a general email to all parents) * The separate legal entity language makes us feel like there is a shell game to protect bad teachers by moving them between campuses We would once again like to thank the teacher that was brave enough to report this behavior. read more

Our 2-year-old son has been going to Willow Tree for the past 6 months, and it is hands down one of the best decisions we've ever made. We could have never dreamed up such a place. Every teacher and director is so wonderfully kind, caring, and experienced. Our son LOVES his teachers. The curriculum and activities are well structured and thought out. Cultural celebrations abound, and there is always a fun theme running. There is a strong focus on emotional intelligence (sharing, helping, being kind) in addition to language learning (our son is nearly as fluent in Mandarin as he is in English already!). We also appreciate their dedication to hygiene and prompt communication of any illness present in classrooms. The parent community is very active, inclusive, and friendly. Everything is run so professionally; we receive videos, photos, updates, and any other communications throughout the day. Watching our son dance, jump, and sing along to his favorite songs with his teachers and friends with a big smile on his face brings us never-ending joy. What we appreciate most of all is that we feel so comfortable leaving our son in the care of Willow Tree. For all the reasons above, but also because they really treat the whole family unit as important. In the first month, when drop offs were difficult, we received photos/videos within 5 minutes of us leaving to show how our son was doing (almost always, totally fine). They have welcomed our son's grandparents into the community for birthday celebrations, pick ups/drop offs, and even parent-teacher conferences. It surprises me how often I run into the Directors (Su laoshi and Angie laoshi) during pick up, who will - unprompted - tell me how my son's day was, what went well, and what he's working on. They oversee the entire school, so it's incredible to me that they are so in touch with every single student. It really shows how much they genuinely care about the kids there. We've only fallen more in love with Willow Tree in the last 6 months, and are so grateful to have found the right place for our family read more

We had been on the waitlist for some time now and to be honest, it was hard for us to think about transitioning our child after being with a nanny and coop for so long. However, with Willow Tree I felt like it was the perfect place for us to have our daughter be and my intuition was correct!! I cannot say enough good things about Willow Tree! My daughter attended this preschool for two years since she was 2 years old, and every day was a fantastic adventure for her. Although she has moved on to the next stage of her education, the impact of her time at Willow Tree is still evident in her development. During my daughter's time at Willow Tree, there was minimal turnover of the teachers at the school allowing teachers to know all unique aspects of my child and my child developed strong bonds with her teachers. The open communication between the preschool and parents was greatly appreciated. I have different channels to stay informed about my daughter's progress and daily activities. 1. Rare to find at most preschools, Willow Tree teachers will upload pictures and videos to a parent app so parents can see different activities kids did throughout the day. Also, parents can see the lunch provided to kids. 2. At pick-up/drop-off, besides warm welcomes and hugs for good bye, I can easily talk to teachers to know about my kid's day. 3. There is also regular teacher-parents conference in which teachers and parents will discuss more details about child's development. 4. Parents are also open to schedule in person meetings with school directors to communicate anything. Willow Tree puts a lot of effort to create a playful and educational curriculum. Besides its bilingual nature and daily circle time/crafting/outdoor time, my child enrolled in Soccer, Arts, Dance, Music classes to enrich her experience. This past summer, the school also created summer theme field trips to parks/farms/library, invited staff for science experiments and invited ranger to show kids different animals. My child was busy exploring and happy at Willow Tree every day. Also worth to mention, to showcase the children's achievements during the year, Willow Tree will hold a graduation ceremony every year and it was so blessing to watch kids collaborate and perform what they learned. The facilities at Willow Tree are clean, safe, and well-maintained. I always felt confident and at ease knowing my daughter was in such a nurturing environment. Except daily routine cleaning, the school hired cleaning staff to deep clean the facility every week. Last but not the least, Willow Tree really puts Children and Parents as priority. Willow Tree is so parent's friendly. Both of me and my husband work, it's extremely helpful for my family that Willow Tree offers early/after care and stay open as much as they can while I am confident my child is safe and happy at the school. Our 3.5yrs old son goes to Willow Tree Chinese Preschool. He is in the pre-schooler class now. The class has a very good curriculum(balance of study, story reading, writing, creative play, outdoor play, park once a week). He started as a toddler in this school when he was 2 years old and had never been to any other school before this. The teachers and the director have taken care of him in transitioning and socialising . They are very warm and friendly. They helped greatly in developing his social, emotional and cognitive skills. They send daily updates at school and are very quick to respond to our texts and calls at any time. My son loves his school and friends and looks forward to it everyday. We do not speak Chinese, but he is very good at speaking Mandarin Chinese. Highly recommend to parents looking for a good place for their kids to start schooling at. read more

Many people were surprised or even shocked to hear that we still send our 4-year-old to preschool despite wave after wave of covid spikes. Indeed, covid risks exist in daycares, but as parents dealing with uncertainty, anxiety, and exhaustion everyday, we feel we have to weigh the risk of covid against the risk of losing the loving and caring relationship with other members of the household. After weighing these risks every weekday morning for 6 months, I can say, with a great deal of certainty, that I feel safe dropping my son off at Willow Tree, that he is happy to be with his friends and teachers, and that the teachers care about these children's safety and wellbeing more than anything else. Why do I say that? 1. Strict cleaning protocols are followed. Mask wearing is built into the kids' routines. Temperature checks twice a day. 2. My son eats much better at school than at home. He brings home crafts he made, talks about what he did at school, and gets excited about the weekly show-and-tell. His communication improved tremendously. 3. Teacher sends detailed daily reports with pictures through an app. In addition, they always reach out to parents promptly for anything unusual. Their thoroughness and sense of urgency is absolutely amazing. Willow Tree is also a nice community. My son is a happy and relaxed guy when I pick him up everyday. One day he told me the school is a fun place to be. The Willow Tree has a great teacher to student ratio. The teachers and the owner are professional and caring. He has never had diaper rash! The school provides organic fresh fruit, veggies and meat daily. The meal is freshly cooked! I have been working at Willow Tree for over two years. I really enjoy the loving and supportive working environment here. All my colleagues are so nice and professional. The director is the best leader I have ever seen. She manages the school so well and she treats all the staff and children as her family. It's so amazing that she remembers all the teachers and children's birthdays and celebrates with us at school. Every festival is valued in our school. According to the different festivals, we decorate the classroom, teach the kids during circle time, do related activities in the small group, and hold a celebration on some special festivals. We're so happy we found Willow Tree and feel so lucky that our son was able to start with them as soon as they opened. We toured several preschools and knew immediately this one was the best fit, due to their after-care hours, the Mandarin bilingual program, and the warm, caring teachers. This school is the best thing to happen to us! When my daughter's nanny had to leave due to personal reasons, we were left on the spot. Willow Tree got us in immediately for a tour and I was instantly impressed. The facility has been recently renovated and feels very new and clean. The teachers had created a very calm environment in a room full of toddlers. We are a biracial family and my daughter speaks mostly english at home, she has had no issue with the transition of speaking Chinese during the day and english with us in the evening. The teachers are very friendly and I can tell that they are truly passionate. Teacher Liu, Teacher Misim, and Teacher Lee have become family as they have taken amazing care of my daughter. They provide meals, structured lessons along with free play, and have a wonderful outdoor space. My kid have been here for a while, and she really likes teachers and school! This is a great place, they are very very clean, so they rarely got sick unlike other preschools or daycares. Kids behaviors are really good, we do not need to worry about accidents. My kid improved quickly after couple weeks, she starts learning new songs and poem in Chinese and English. Well organized school, have music, soccer and dancing classes teaches by professional teachers, they also provide lunch, videos, and pictures every day. This is my second review about willow trees preschool . I had been sent my son to 3 daycares. This is the only school that my son is eager to attend every day. Every day, I get a report about the kid's school life. my son will become an elementary school student. I wish I had found this school earlier as I really feel my son gets a good care, make friends and learn knowledge here. My daughter has been going to Willow Tree Preschool for 4 months and we couldn't be happier. They are very meticulous about hygiene and safety, which I really appreciate during Covid time. Every day we bring her, we feel secure in the knowledge that she will be safe, happy, and cared for like a family member. Last summer during Covid-19, I looked for a summer school for my younger son. I found Willow Tree Chinese Bilingual School through a referral. To my surprise, this school significantly exceeded my expectation that I decided to transfer my son to Willow Tree. -Environment: Willow Tree is located at a very convenient neighborhood. It was freshly remodeled in 2020. All the facilities are new. -Owner/Teachers: Ms. Su, the owner of Willow Tree, is probably one of the most caring, loving and passionate teacher I've ever seen. Every morning, Ms. Su will greet each child at the door. At pickup time, she will talk to each parent and remember what each child ate for lunch, how much he/she ate and how well he/she slept. She would give each child a good-bye hug saying "I love you". My son has special needs on diet and Ms. Su listened to our needs and tried her best to help my son to eat better. Since my son has attended Willow Tree, he has gained weight significantly and successfully weaned from his feeding tube because he doesn't need it anymore. He eats so much better at school because Ms. Su always encourages him in a very positive yet gentle way. I cannot express how grateful we are to Ms. Su for her help and love. Weaning from his feeding tube is probably one of the most important milestone in his life. My son loves Ms. Su so much that he even wants to be her baby:) Ms. Su also has the talent to find the best bilingual teachers. All the teachers have advanced education degrees, which are not common in most preschools in the area. They are all very caring, loving and talented! I kept receiving lots of creative crafts and projects from my son's backpack. -Meals: Willow Tree provides homemade hot meals every day. Most of the ingredients are organic. My son is a picky eater but he finishes all his food and asks for more almost everyday. -Curriculum/Bilingual Education Willow Tree has one half-day English teacher and a few full-day Chinese teachers. There are two English circle time in the morning and two Chinese circle time, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. They use a good curriculum to teach the kids Chinese characters. -Overall I am very satisfied with my experience with Willow Tree. 2020 and 2021 is a stressful year for everyone, and I am glad that my son is very happy at school in loving and caring hands. read more

My son started WillowTree at the age of 4 (preschool) and "graduated" at 6 (kindergarten) and we have been very happy with our choice. The school is clean and safe (e.g. mask, temperature check, personal hygiene). Staff and teachers are professionally trained and attentive to kids' needs. The classes offer balanced learning/play experiences, with art & crafts, math, reading & writing, as well as social/emotional activities such as field-trips, play-together & show-and-tell (kids take turns to present their favorite book/toys in front of the group). The class-size is small. Our son had several favorite teachers. The native English speaker teaches the English portion. We noticed that half of the students come from Chinese speaking family, and half from English speaking family. Our son made many friends from different culture background. Overall, this school provides a fun & safe setting for kids to play/learn/interact, a well crafted curriculum that prepares them for elementary school (e.g. reading/writing, math), and a bilingual language immersion experience with small class size & attentive teachers. read more

Our 3.5 year old son has been attending this school for over half a year, and the care is incredible. Teacher Su has amazing energy, warmth, and passion. She greets each kid with a huge hug in the morning, and gives every parent a personalized debrief upon pick up. I have no idea how she is able to be so personally attentive to every child but we are deeply grateful. The school is very clean, the kids actually learn stuff, do proper Chinese lessons, eat well, and just have a great time. My son is adopted and had a hard time at another highly rated preschool - he would cry upon drop off and always looked desperate to be picked up, even after a full month there. At Teacher Su's, within days our son would excitedly run to the car when we told him it was time for school. He could barely speak when he first enrolled and the other day randomly counted to 30 - in English and Chinese! It's also more than just a daycare - the teachers work on sharing and playing well. Teacher Su lets me know what we should work on at home and keeps us updated on her view of my son's progress. With COVID, Teacher Su went above and beyond. Responsibly, she closed the school during initial lockdown. Upon careful re-opening, she is taking all precautions to help ensure the students and families stay safe, even if it means she has to have difficult conversations with parents who are less respectful of COVID guidelines. COVID has brought out a lot of people's true colors, for better and worse, and in Teacher Su's case it was definitely for the better. My kid has been there for 4 months. This is an awesome place, with good indoor and outdoor facilities. The teachers are nice, patient and caring the kids. The courses are interesting and loved by my kid, including language (English / Chinese), reading, math, art and handcraft. We are glad to see our kid making progress everyday there. She also forms good habit to be more patient at home, like reading and working on handcraft. My kid loves this school, and makes a lot of friends there. Besides, it provides the detail online daily update for kid's journey at school. Overall, we are very satisfied with this school and would highly recommend it. read more

My twin boys have been going to another branch location of Willow Tree Chinese Bilingual preschool at Shoreline for almost two years now since they were 2. We love the teachers and the school. They made so many good friends in school and learn lots of good value through the teacher great patient of teaching. They looking forward to go to school everyday. Teacher Liu is a great communicator, she always let the parents knows what to expect for children's growth at their age, which certainly makes working moms like many of us more relief. My kids now speak Chinese to me and English to their father at home. They also learns to read many Chinese and English words and love to read books. They are now learning how to add in Math, which is shocking to me and the kids really enjoy doing math by counting the numbers in both Chinese and English. We couldn't thank the teachers and school enough for such great program and especially a loving environment to grow up with. read more
