It's been so frustrating (nightmare level) getting my drivers license worked out. I had to temporarily move to Indiana and I switched my license because it was more than 90 days. I moved back to Illinois and they helped me expedite the process of voided my license so I can be compliant with the DOT. This was a HUGE deal to me and so grateful. I'm not allowed to have two valid drivers license and switching states has cost me work with very good pay. It means the world that they took the time to help me get to where I need to be because the system takes way too long.

I waited in line for 2 hours today in the sun outside to just get inside to wait about 30 more minutes. But when have you ever went to the BMV and been in and out? These people have a job to do and they're trying to keep you safe at the same time. I respect them just as I respect any other person. They are trying to do their job and make sure that it's done correctly, so please be patient with them and understanding. There is one lady in there that isn't nice and understanding, but she could have had a lot of belligerent people come to her today. I do not judge people based off of first time experiences because they may not be that way all the time. Think about the times that you have been upset and had to be at work, you didn't want to smile either. But, they were all very professional and did their job exceptionally well. If you have to bring a little bit more information do that. Be prepared for anything when you come. Bring all proofs of insurance documentation, proofs of address, whatever it is that you think you need bring a little bit more, just in case. It will save you and them a lot of time! It's conveniently located. They are constantly cleaning. It's well lit. The temperature is nice inside. The person who helped me was overly helpful and friendly! I would recommend at this time.

I think there are plenty of folks who also don't know that you're required to make an appointment now, so undoubtedly folks show up uninitiated. I'm not sure if it's for all tasks that one has to make an appointment... when I went to another office to get my temporary disabled permit during my third trimester, they let me in, but maybe they were just being nice? The folks in this location were annoying but maybe it's part of the job description, I don't know. When I was moving from the first line (it's a land of lines in here) to tell them why I was here to the line to get my photo taken, there was no one else in the photo line so I just walked directly to where the front of that line would be. They made me move and walk back around through the stanchions to get to the exact same place I originally was. Uh.... I HATE their "system" of making people write their SSN on a piece of scrap paper. I cannot believe how ridiculous this is--what year is it again?? I really hope one of the upgrades that Alexei is implementing has to do with technology, because it is just wild that they can't somehow provide or route that information another way. They have a red/yellow/green line system which at least makes it easy to route people from this station to that station. The saving grace of these various stations is that maybe it's what makes the appointment so short. I was thankfully out in fewer that 30 minutes.

She really made my experience better, as did the lady conducting the written tests. Give these ladies the raise that they deserve! All of the employees that I encountered were very nice and helpful. I'm sure the person taking my picture had good intentions, but they made me smile with teeth for my photo after I told them multiple times that I didn't want to. It's not a rule in IL that you have to smile with your teeth. So I really ended up paying $30 for a new license photo that I look like a fat lard in. Not really cool. That's the only issue that I had with this whole visit.

I called beforehand, and the automated answering system promised me they were open "Tuesday through Saturday, 9am-5pm, except on national holidays". Apparently this also includes Saturdays-before-national-holidays, which I discovered only after the 20-mile trip. So I drove 40 miles for nothing. But hey, next week when that doubles to 80 miles, at least Lake County Indiana will know I'm not polluting their air! What a joke. Just make sure you are NOWHERE NEAR a national holiday when you come in, and you should be fine.

If you need a new year sticker for your plates, I suggest paying the $10 or so dollars and having them do it right there - NO HASSLE, NOW LINES. I've been using this location for a while now and found that the best thing to do to get in and out the quickest is to go in about 30 - 45 minutes after typical lunch hours. It's almost entirely bereft of cars.
