Thanks to Google and luck from above we found Cheever's Towing and Ron's Auto. We were in a position where we had no choice and could have been easily abused (think of the movie Vacation). My car wasn't starting consistently and I needed to get to the hospital to see my son in the NICU…read more I scheduled an appointment with them for the next day and when I arrived they moved a car that they were actively working on to honor my appointment time. Within maybe 2-3 minutes they had already ran the necessary diagnostics on the alternator and battery to determine it was definitely the battery. They found that my car takes a special kind of battery that they've never worked with before. That didn't stop them from ordering said battery and having it delivered and ready for me the very next morning. They called me and said they could replace it quickly for me. I drove right over and they stopped what they were doing to quickly replace my battery with the new one. When it was all said and done, they charged me half of what the Subaru dealership said they were going to charge me for the same work. They spent a grand total of a few minutes of my time to get me fully squared away. I, personally, have never received such great service from a repair place. Couldn't recommend them more!

After another auto parts store 'tested my battery and alternator' and sent me on my way with no…read moreproblems found, I found myself stuck unable to start twice over the weekend. I decided to try a different place which happened to be O'Reilly. First thing they said, battery very bad. Good. Suspected problem confirmed. Then rather than sell me a battery and install it, they pointed out these cars with the new engine stop/start at traffic lights have two batteries! There's a small one that powers the aux equipment while the engine is off and alternator is not running at these annoying 'engine off' traffic lights. Their computer instructed them to send customer to professional (dealer) service for determination and replacement of proper battery, this to avoid accidental damage to computers. I can understand there must be circuitry that ties the output from the alternator to both batteries and there may be voltage somewhere you don't anticipate. So you could buy a battery and probably replace it at home being extra cautious but that's too much liability for a store which is not a service center. O'Reillys jumped the car, got me started and sent me on my way to my dealer, no charge. This made me have a bit more faith in them going forward than the other store in town.
