Crown Plaza Palo Alto -- Bay Area, y'all gotta do better... but y'all also had some SERIOUS highs Let me start from the beginning. I was looking for a room that could accommodate my family of four in the Bay Area and, even being a Diamond member, finding something that worked was becoming a whole mission. Bay Area, do better! About 24 hours later, I received a call from Ron, who told me he had gotten approval from his manager (I believe it was Isabelle) to help accommodate my situation. I really appreciated Ron actually following up and finding a solution. Then Ron connected me with reservations... And THAT'S where the comedy started. Reservations apparently thought I was lying about my elite status. Not only did they question it, but they actually said it out loud. Whoa buddy... WHERE THEY DO THAT AT?! I disconnected, went into the app, made the reservation myself, then called back to get the upgraded room taken care of. Sometimes you just gotta say, "You know what? Let me handle this." Fast forward to arrival. We pulled up -- and for the sake of the soundtrack, let's just say we were listening to "California Love." Got checked in with nothing but smiles. No silliness. No drama. Just good vibes. Walked into the room, curtains were wide open, the sun was beaming in, and the pool was literally right outside the patio balcony. I'm not gonna lie, I was tempted to hit my best Trey Songz voice: "Diiiive Innnnn... whooaoooooo... SPLASH!" ‍ The room, the view, the atmosphere -- all of it had me thinking, Okayyyy Crown Royal, y'all might have redeemed yourselves! BUT THEN... Somehow, the LAST night of the weekend still had to get shady. My wife and I decided to eat at the hotel restaurant. Looking back, when the server started off the way she did, we probably should've dipped right then. But the hotel experience had been so smooth up to that point that there was no way one person could really flip the whole scene... WRONG!!!! This lady was dissing the restaurant food before we could even properly enjoy it. Saying things like, "I know this isn't five-star..." and basically giving us a whole disclaimer about the food. "No, no, no!" -- in my Dikembe Mutombo voice. My wife insisted we stay, so we did. And honestly, the food was actually pretty nice. The biggest issue wasn't even her poor attitude. It was what happened when we left. Our meal was somewhere in the $60-something range, and somehow the receipt reflected that we had left a tip that we did not authorize. That turned a $60-something meal into damn near a $100 meal. My guy... COME ON NOW. Crown needs a new pawn because she was making all the wrong moves and playing for the other side. The next morning, I went to the front desk to explain what happened. Unfortunately, the response I received didn't make the situation any better. Instead of feeling like my concern was being taken seriously, I felt like I was being made to feel bad for even bringing it up. At that point, it honestly left a bitter taste in our mouths -- and that's probably the most disappointing part. Because here's the thing: the stay was actually going really well. Ron stepped up. The room was nice. The check-in experience was great. The view was beautiful. We were having a good time. Then one restaurant interaction and the way the complaint was handled at the front desk put a cloud over what had otherwise been a really enjoyable stay. So I'm giving Crown Plaza Palo Alto 4 stars, because there was genuinely a lot that I enjoyed. But that last experience definitely needs attention. Ron, thank you for making things happen. Reservations... we need to have a conversation. Restaurant... y'all almost fumbled the whole game. And management -- please look into how tips are being handled and how guest complaints are being addressed, because nobody should leave wondering whether their bill was changed without authorization or feeling uncomfortable for speaking up about it. Still had a good weekend overall... but that ending? Crown Plaza, you were THIS close to checkmate. Still, I feel Crown Plaza deserves another run. We'll be back -- maybe for that bigger upstairs room, this time without the kids! Let's see if we can turn those tables around. read more

Structural Management Failure in Hospitality & Guest Relations As someone who works in management and supervision, I have a high level of respect for operational excellence. From a facilities standpoint, this property is succeeding--the rooms were immaculate and the housekeeping standards are clearly top-tier. However, there is a glaring disconnect between the quality of the facility and the quality of the leadership in the entertainment venues. I had a deeply unprofessional encounter at the on-site bar that highlighted a total lack of conflict resolution training. I was told I was "blocking a service area" and asked to leave without a single prior verbal warning or a professional request to relocate. When I attempted to engage with the manager, Miguel, his approach was the opposite of what I expect from a leader. Instead of utilizing de-escalation techniques, he was confrontational and defensive. From a management perspective, his conduct was a liability; he escalated a minor logistical issue into a negative guest experience. Furthermore, I observed an inconsistent enforcement of rules that suggested a lack of standardized oversight. Final Assessment: The "hard product" (the rooms) is excellent, but the "soft product" (the management leadership) is failing. Miguel's inability to manage a floor without alienating guests is a training gap that needs to be addressed by corporate. Until leadership in the bar/nightclub is held to the same standard as the environmental services team, I cannot recommend this venue. read more

There is a night club at this hotel. I'm on the 4th floor I can hear the music from my room. I called to complain and they said there was nothing they could do. Ummm if you have a night club in your hotel and people are trying to get some sleep why wouldn't you already have proper noise reducing procedures. Loved this hotel. Our room was so quiet. We were at the end of the hall and we had a sliding glass door and a little balcony. Overlooked just the building but it was still cool. Felt like an oasis. Though we hardly spent any time at this location we definitely loved it and if we could do it all over again we would have stayed at this location our whole trip. The staff is extremely friendly, helpful, and courteous (everything you want them to be). There is complimentary parking in the garage to the right of the entrance. The lobby is gorgeous and we had a free social event where they served some finger foods and drinks (water, soda, wine) to the guests that evening. There is a restaurant (for purchase) for meals and a nice big indoor pool. The rooms are nice with no issues at all. I must declare having a church retreat here was probably the best thing ever. This hotel is not very far from my flat. Only 30 minutes away. I am not a huge IHG guy but for large gatherings, it is a very cool place. Meeting rooms are very convenient and bathrooms are very close by. The elevator area makes for a very good resting area. There are nice chairs and sofas for you to sit on. Staff here is very friendly. If you are in a rush to SFO there are available shuttle buses that take you directly to the airport. Drawback: no free breakfast if you are not an IHG member but you are free to bring your own. There are a lot of very cool places nearby to eat which is very nice Warning: be very careful or else you will end up on the freeway again. read more

This has always been our favorite place to stay whenever we have an occasion to celebrate with family and/or friends. The hotel place is clean, nice and presentable. They always have something going on. And this is the only Crowne plaza that has the club/lounge. I believe there are other 2 here in the bay area but doesn't have a club for dancing. The staff are nice and pleasant too. We are locals from the area and we come here 1-2x a year to dance at Club Bistro. Though the DJs are sometimes a hit and/or miss cause when we go it's always a different guy playing. Sometimes they're good and sometimes not so good. Sorry. Its been 3 times that we got this type of suite but you have to book way ahead of time though cause it's tough to get them really. We just got lucky one time cause we decided to share a room for the six of us. Bed is a King size so all 4 girls slept there and 2 boys slept in the living room on the sofa and couch. It comes with a mini kitchen, a bar, a counter and a dining table. Pretty huge good for 4-6. They also have a pool and buffett. One time 6-7 yrs ago we went on a New year's eve party and it was a first come first served as expected. It was a great fun night. Will always come back here. read more

Recently attended the 2025 Women's Summit coordinated by SSK Foundation (Founder Teresa Hoang) with inspiring workshops, engaging speakers, specialty food and jewelry vendors. Crowne Plaza provided the event with a taco bar, salads and desserts (flan and cake). Everything was nicely prepared, the right temperature, fresh and delicious. Granted the proteins (chicken and beef) could've been better seasoned but also, realize they are catering to various palates and spice levels. The flan was amazing with a smooth, rich, creamy yet custardy texture. Perfecto! Staff were friendly, professional and efficient and worked various areas such as the main ballroom room, food and beverage in the foyer and the smaller rooms where they held breakout sessions. The bathrooms were clean and modern. I travel frequently for work and the Crowne Plaza in Foster City was a solid choice during my recent trip. The location is a definite plus, conveniently close to the freeway which made getting around the Bay Area easy, and within minutes of several shopping centers that made grabbing lunch or a quick coffee super convenient. My room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. The bed was great and I appreciated the reliable Wi-Fi and workspace in the room. I was also impressed with the conference facilities. As a frequent visitor to this Crown Plaza I was surprised to condition of the room/421 I had. Dust! Not just dust from let's say a week but dust on the mirrors frame lamps from possibly MONTHS! Now dust in a hotel room that many visitor get should be deep cleaned more often. The last thing we want to be breathing in dead skin floating hair etc. Please have this addressed. If management didn't know, now you know. We enjoy Crown Plaza but this issue is really making us rethink about a return visit. read more

Just checked in, super helpful person at the front desk, could not have been nicer and more professional. Be aware that if you're staying here there are renovations happening, I wasn't made aware of this when booking. I just landed at 1am, and found out there will be all sorts of noise starting early, and water service may be shut down from 8am - 5pm. Conveniently located just by the freeway. Easy to check in. Plenty of parking. Room is decent. Pillow is soft. Bed is nice. Perfect for staying the night if that's all you need to do. Elevator is fast. Now the con part: Bathroom needs some fixing. Toilet tank cover is replaced by a wooden board. Shower is difficult to turn on, needs some man power to turn on. Parking needs a lot of repair. No light even if it's dark. Apparently, it turns on at 6p, but it gets dark around 530p. Almost tripped due to dark, cracked and uneven parking lot. No policy with their pool. Unable to 'private party'. Pool area was unusable due to family having a party taking over the area with tables, drinking and eating inside. Definitely will feel uncomfortable using it like you're invading their space. Yet we have to pay for this unusable service. Kind of a waste, pool is warm too. They leave the pool door open, too. Power went out during a storm, no generator in site. Room got cold quick. No hot water during the outage, as expected. Overall, the sleep was decent and amazing. However, in regards of facility, it's uneventful. Will we be back? Only if it's a night stay as it's convenient. Anything longer, a last option. read more

This was our second year coming to the Crowne Plaza for the New Years event. Everything seemed to be going well we came down to get our wristbands for the event and one security guard proceeded to let us know that it was okay to drink our drinks in the lobby just not upon entering the ballrooms. Before entering the hallway to the first three dance floors my partner put his beverage in the trash can. From about 8-11:30 we were taking breaks from the dance floors and going up to our rooms. When we were coming down at around 11:30 to bring in the new year, one of the security guards near the elevators came up to some of my family members and partner and told them they couldn't have no beverages from upstairs in the lobby at all. My partner told security guard that we were told differently from another security guard earlier in the night but that he understood and would throw it away. We were a group of 8 people and were blocking the aisle from people exiting the elevator and ongoing traffic to the dance floors. As my partner proceeded to move a bit further and in clearance of the aisle so we could all allow people to continue to pass, that same security guard sped fast and got in my partners face. His first words were "Now you're testing me" and began to tell him that he completely disregarded his demand to throw his drink in the trash next to the elevator. The security guard continued being completely disrespectful to my partner and unprofessional calling him a word that one of the managers or person in charge near by heard. As the situation escalated, I began speaking to the manager near by and began explaining to him how the previous security guard had told us something completely different and now this other one is telling us the opposite and making us look like we're all the problem. I told him he could check the cameras and see we were not lying regarding what we were told before. As we all continued to try and enjoy the night. We went up to the front desk to see if we could file a complaint. The receptionist told us they couldn't do anything at the moment but that they could write our names down for contact. My partner asked if there was anyone else he could speak to and they brought out a guy by the last name Herrera. We explained everything that had happened and he basically brushed us off. With only 10 minutes left until midnight we went to one of the ballrooms to try and enjoy the balloon drop and it was extremely crowded we couldn't get in. We went back to the reception and we noticed Herrera was still there and we asked if we could talk to a manager, he laughed and then said he would call someone. Confused as to why he began to laugh. We both told him that there was nothing funny about this situation and that brushing us off was not the solution. One of the managers from many that night came and once again we explained the situation and all he said was " when anyone is breaking the rules, the security guards reinforce them". After our family has been coming here since the 90s a response like that was a slap to the face. Instead of anyone trying to understand and take responsibility for the miscommunication they had amongst their own employees, their solutions was to call the police and get us kicked out. How unprofessional was this. Just because people drink on New Year's Eve doesn't mean they are not making sense or are not in the right. We knew what was not right and tried to have someone correct the situation in case someone else was treated the same or worse. Without listening to us any further, the last manager sent Eddie another one of the security guards to try to either get us kicked out or walked to our hotel room as if we were on time out. All of this was on camera and we continued explaining to the security guard to check so he knew we were not wrong but of course no one did absolutely nothing. This was completely unacceptable and ruined the entire night for us and for our family. We hope your hotel has some time to reflect and correct how to conduct themselves with all guests. Especially when you disrespect and expect respect in return. Not how it works. Do better Crowne Royal. Leadership meeting - we had a leadership meeting here and the Crowne Plaza have 5 star service !! Day 1 - had a sandwiches and salad with desserts! Great spread and excellent service ! We had a great Executive Room on the 7th floor with great views! Day 2 - Continental breakfast with yogurt and oatmeal and also had a 3 course lunch with grilled steak and chicken and also veggies and salad. Had the most divine tres leeches with flan! Business service was great! we also had happy hour at the bar ! Great food had some chicken quesadilla and ahi poke and salmon ! All were delicious ! Stayed here for a family visit. I was uncertain as some other Crowne Plazas I had stayed out seemed outdated but this was not the case. This is upscale from others I had visited. The lobby impresses with an open atrium for dining. The room was clean, quiet and comfortable. The bed was soft and easy to fall asleep in. The bathroom was well maintained with a shower/tub combo. The breakfast buffet is $25. It comes with various fruits, breads, breakfast meats, eggs, cereals. There is an omelet station and a decent breakfast burrito. Coffee, juices, etc are served by a waiter. Parking is in an adjoining garage and free of charge. There is a shopping center nearby with dining options. The site is located near the San Mateo Bridge and about 15 minutes to San Francisco airport (even noticed flight attendants staying here). read more

Solidly average hotel. The location is convenient, right off the 92 and 101, close to SFO. The staff is also helpful and polite. I also dig the indoor palm trees and atrium. The glass elevator was a particular hit with the kids. But every inch of the hotel room was a reminder that this hostel's glory days were long gone. The baseboards were chipped and worn out, fixtures and furnishings outdated. The noise was also an issue. I'm not sure if the windows were simply old, but even on the 5th floor, I could hear the street traffic (of a relatively quiet street). The hallway noise was also audible late at night. read more

We live in Sacramento and we've been coming to this hotel for the past 5 years. This is usually our first stop because it's convenient to visit places and families. After our activities we always enjoyed going to the hotel club at night time. We never had a problem and enjoyed the safe environment. This past weekend my husband and I were enjoying when for no explanation a security kicked my husband out of the club when we demanded a reason they couldn't articulate one. I went back to speak to the bartender where my husband was standing. He stated that my husband was blocking the area where people asked for drinks. With a simple move my husband would've understand. I went back outside and found my husband and the manager of the club "Miguel" arguing. This manager had kicked two other people as well in the same night and they were all furious. This manager Miguel was not professional at all he was on customer's faces and escalated the whole situation unnecessarily. Showed no respect for women. He needs to be removed from this place we never experienced such things. He ruined our night and of course our expectations from such an expensive hotel. People like us travel from far away to enjoy not to be dealing with people like this so called Manager. This guy is a liability for the hotel and customer. We will not be coming to this place for any future event and for sure will warn our friends and family not to visit this place not worth it. read more

We hosted a private party at the Foster City Crowne Plaza Hotel - Bistro Lounge for my daughter's 40th birthday, a milestone celebration and a significant financial investment. The venue itself has a nice local vibe, a good private room, and the convenience of hotel accommodations for out-of-town guests, which is why we chose it. Unfortunately, our experience with the catering department was very disappointing. We began planning over two months in advance, yet communication was difficult and often required multiple follow-ups. Despite requesting to meet in person for guidance on food and beverage decisions, everything was handled by email, and responses were frequently delayed, unclear, or conflicting. The process felt arduous and unsupported. The sales coordinator, Afa, and catering manager, Miguel, were difficult to reach, unhelpful, and seemed largely uninterested in our event. By the time this became clear, invitations had already been sent and changing venues was no longer an option. Adding to the frustration, my daughter -- the guest of honor -- is an event planner by profession, and she was particularly disappointed by the lack of care and follow-through. She shared how important it is for clients to feel that their event matters to the venue and that staff are there to support them every step of the way. Unfortunately, we felt disregarded and unsupported throughout the entire process. On the positive side, the food was very good, and we appreciated the flexibility to decorate. The staff assisting with setup were kind and helpful, especially Eva. However, on the day of the event, service was poor. With multiple events happening simultaneously, used plates and glasses were not cleared unless I left the room to request it -- repeatedly. With limited tabletop space, this took me away from our guests and made the experience stressful. The room was also not very clean, and a broken couch I pointed out was never addressed. The on-site manager never checked in with us during the event, and it has now been over a week with no follow-up at all from catering. Because of the lack of communication, inattentive service, and absence of follow-through -- especially given the importance and cost of the event -- I would not work with this catering team again or host another event in the Bistro Lounge. Breakfast there is a fortune, so we brought food in. Clientele is mainly asian airlines flight staff 20-40 people checking in and out at the same times every morning and evening. Booked 2 night stay. Was told upon check in the club was available Saturday night. I asked if u could hear it from my room as I had early morning and was assured no. I was on 3rd floor room 330. Room was good, sheets super soft. Keurig was good touch. All went sideways when I was woken up at 8am by construction noise directly above me. By 830 it was so bad I got dressed and left. Sat night get to room at 11pm I hear the night club music. Im not sensitive to sound, but I felt like the club was down the hall. Room next to me had guests in room for after party. This lasted till 1am. Saturday morning 8am sharp construction begins. It sounded like they were scraping the floor right above me. I looked out my window and see an contractor with scarf over his mouth, giggles on head get off on 4th floor and walk down my hall. So I know they were there. I get the ai text that goes unmanned asking how my stay was. I reply and get no response. Upon checkout I explain my stay and was told no construction happened above me. Mknd you the lobby is torpedo in plastic, my floor, 3 is tapped in plastic.... but okay Christina...I'm wrong. Maybe I'm just tired because ibsidnt get much sleep while staying at your hotel. Christina did say she'd mention the music to the f&b manager but nothing came of that. I get hotels need to rennovate, but let your guests know. Don't lie and say it didn't happen. Booked this hotel room. Over a month ago, my son was going to Open Sauce. Come to check in I'm told they don't have a room for me because they are under construction and they overbooked. So they will be moving us to another hotel. Of course everything is booked near here. We get relocated to is basically a motel 6, by a freeway. Not the same as where we were staying. Unfortunately we received an unwanted surprise - when we opened to hotel room door the maid was in there setting up a cot but we did not ask for one. The front desk came up and said they had to go back down to check. She came back and gave us a different room. The bathtub was dirty. Overnight there was noise coming from the walls. It sounded like there were rodents in the pipes. The windows were very dirty. There are many other hotels nearby. I wouldn't recommend this one. read more

I kept checking rates on hotels.com where the rates fluctuated a few times until I was able to book a night for about $125 (rates were anywhere from $220, $180, $125 when I was looking). FREE parking which is golden for the SF area. Decently nice rooms with a comfy bed, nice bathroom and shower, WiFi and cable tv. No free breakfast. Front desk staff was super nice. Indoor pool, Japanese food on-site and walking distance to some food spots. No frills. The complex itself is older but the rooms aren't bad at all. I had a view of the freeway and Costco...but who's looking out the window anyways...? Make sure you get a room away from the banquet hall noise. All in all a nice stay. read more
