Here is a simple review -overpriced and pretentious. Food really does not seem to be made fresh or to order...very Sysco like plates of food. Spent WAY too much for Blah food! I do not plan on going back. I am very sadden by comments I have received over my truthful OPINION of CR's, and it is clear that I was right about not returning. There are many more fine restaurants in the area and in much better locations! I have been to CRs two times and both times I was underwhelmed. I believe the food is over rated, it was ok but not great. I requested a full size table when making the reservation and was told that wasn't the policy for "2". After I insisted they agreed. Then once we arrived and they saw we were 2 women they put us in a booth next to the kitchen even though other booths were available. Also there were many other couples sitting at full size tables/booths,,, 2017 and these people are still not gay friendly, I guess they want to keep it a "Talbots, Neiman Marcus" kinda crowd. read more

My husband and I went on a Saturday evening to celebrate Valentines Day. I was so disappointed! The waitress was fine. No real complaints about her. The food was mediocre at best, especially for the prices they charge. We ordered the popovers for an appetizer. ($10). We have had popovers many times at other places. What we received were not popovers! 3 little balls of undercooked dough. We literally each took a bite and left the rest on the plate. We should have sent them back. I got prime rib ($37), which was tough and cold. The 99 has better prime rib! My husband got the scallops. 4 scallops with a mound of lentils for $35! Do yourself a favor.. spend your money elsewhere! read more

My first time to CR's was last evening for a business dinner with a colleague and vendor. Drinks were fine but the main issue I had was the food was not hot rather quite cool. Starting with the appetizers which came to the table in less than 5 minutes from being ordered. It was like they were already prepared and they didn't warm up enough. The meatballs w/sauce were cool and fried calamari had was warm. After waiting in excess of 45mins for dinner to be serviced my thick piece of halibut was thoroughly cooked but again was quite cool in the center. I sent it back and when it was returned it was slightly warming but by no means piping hot. My wife has been wanting to try CR's so I guess I'll give it a second shot but I won't be running back anytime soon. For a restaurant with a Capital Grill atmosphere and prices they've certainly missed the mark with my first visit. read more

People are very nice. First time at CR's though had been to CR Sparks several times. The restaurant is nicely decorated. The food was over salted, and my veal chop had to be returned. The potatoes with my wife's steak too were over salted but not returned. The veal that was redone was very good. Carrot cake was good as well read more

We went to celebrate our Anniversary and they exceeded expectations! Having diet sensitivities (gluten and dairy) as soon as I mentioned it our server, Lisa, made sure that my needs were meet. Have been there many times with friends/family; always good. This time ended it - TERRIBLE!!; filed complaint - NO RESPONSE! 6 guests; one black: she felt singled out for being black; was told to take off her hat or she couldn't come in - she has cancer; no hair; and it was most embarrassing. One guest ordered a coke; it was BAD; Lisa, the server, chose to argue instead of just getting another. two filets ordered medium: one came out WELL, the other almost raw. Rather than get in another bad situation/argument; we traded; my guest said she could deal the raw one; I dealt with the well done. It was a birthday; pre-ordered cake; confirmed that day; never arrived. Oh how I want to love this place. We have gone to this restaurant twice now and have had similar experiences each time. The first time was the week of Christmas. We made dinner reservations and arrived at that time. We were seated promptly however, no server ever arrived at our table. After a lengthy wait and that dreaded feeling that we ended up in a "dead zone" I went to the reception desk to request a server. Someone was sent over to us immediately after that. She mentioned since there was a gathering in another room their tables were reassigned and she was unaware that we were at her table. From that point on things went well. Any place can have a bad day/night so we decided to give CR's another try for Valentine Day Brunch. Hard to believe but this also was a strange experience. The server came to the table promptly and on this day, unlike our first visit, that's where the good part ends. I ordered hot tea which he brought however, he brought no spoon, sugar, or cream. After some time I actually got up from my table and approached him, on the opposite side of the room, to request these items. We placed our order, which he wrote down, and lo and behold, my husband never received his salad as well as he received the wrong order. It had similar components to the dish so my husband was unaware for the first few seconds that things were not correct. We pointed it out to the server who was apologetic and stated that he had used the wrong order key when placing the order and that he doesn't usually work brunch. The management both times offered a free dessert which was very kind however, it makes me wonder how many folks will hang in there as customers after a few times like this? Also, the restaurant is losing money on the free desserts as well as, in our case, the salad that was never received and paid for. These things may seem small in the grand scheme of it but small items here and there add up to big losses in the end. This is a beautiful place it's too bad the help seems a bit off their game. read more

Unfortunately, the service here was not very good and it was ridiculously overpriced. It took very long to order and get our meals. The waitress was rushed, and she kept bumping into us. The appetizers were good (those that were available) but the main course was very disappointing. Two members of the party got burgers, which were dry and cold. One person got lobster mac and cheese, which was also cold and didn't taste good. Even the caesar salad was not very fresh. The steaks were small and not worth the price. Overall, it was not a very good meal. They were out of calamari, french fries, and short rib. Management did take the bad meals off the bill, but what a sad way to celebrate a sweet sixteen. read more

This resturant got off to a bit of a slow start when it opened under current ownership. Service is particular was inconsistent and after a couple visits we backed away from dining a CRs but still stopped in for drinks and aps at the bar With the kinks worked out I believe this is the best resturant in the Seacoast of NH. My husband and I felt rushed, while our food was served lukewarm. Atmosphere was not relaxing or comfortable, perhaps because we felt rushed. Very disappointed that my entree was not hot. Third time here and it didn't get any better, in fact the opposite. I always have a 3 strike rule with restaurants and this one is now out! We ordered cocktails that were both served with limes that looked like they had been sitting behind the bar for weeks. They were not green but almost a brownish in appearance, we took them out and didn't even use them. Even the server commented on them!!! Why would you not look for fresh limes?! Ordered a wedge salad and the middle of the iceberg was brown and spotted! We took apart the lettuce and left all the brown lettuce on a plate so the server could see it. We should have sent it back, we were hoping once he saw how much we pulled out he would have commented. Again he looked right at it and took it away without saying anything. I ordered the seared shrimp with lobster risotto. The shrimp were overcooked and tough and the risotto was baked and cut into a square so more of a patty and you couldn't even taste the lobster. My husband ordered the fish and chips which he liked and probably the only reason I gave it two stars. Our server was pleasant but had a lot of tables so the service isn't quite what we hoped. We are all set with CRs. We were excited when we heard they were coming to the seacoast since we used to enjoy them in Bedford but it's clearly not even close. read more

We've been waiting to try CR's. Admittedly, we weren't jumping to try it based on other reviews, but were pleasantly surprised. We had the caesar salad, clam chowder, sea bass and short ribs. All of the food was very good. The only down sides were the cocktails and the service. The pear cocktail was very sour and i didn't taste much pear but they quickly doctored it to make it better and the Malbec had been sitting out too long. I tend not to go to newly opened restaurants. I think waiting a month is usually a better option as they have time to work some of the kinks out. I went to CR's against my better judgement due to the stellar reputation of CR Sparks. I went monday night ( I think it was their first full week being open), around 7pm. The hostesses were very pleasant and welcoming. The bar was full so we sat at a small hightop in the lounge area. My boyfriend and the waitress both joked about the very small table. The waitress was very very nice and personable. She greated us fairly quickly and took drink order. The drinks did not arrive fairly quickly (a draft beer and glass of wine). The owner was chatting with an extremely loud couple at the table next to us. (I know its the lounge but you could almost hear the pompus old codger outside). He was giving restaurant advice to the owner. So finally, drinks arrived, we decided no app( all but 2 were seafood and there was no soup offered on the menu). My boyfriend ordered the lamb shank and I ordered the bone-in rib roast medium rare. The lamb was bland, mostly tender, but with some chewy parts, polenta good. My beef arrived Well done. I told the waitress. She immediately took the plate and appologized and offered a new correctly cooked beef. Yes please! Our waitress and a manager came back , appologized again, offered me a salad, more bread etc. No thanks. I can wait , no problem. 20 minutes later, a new steak arrived. Cooked medium rare. It was seasoned well and was tender. My boyfriend was finished with his lamb, told our waitress he was through but she never cleared the plate. Maybe she didnt hear him. The owner was very visible chatting with patrons at the bar and all around the restaurant. No visit to our table. No problem, but it didnt go unnoticed by us. We will probably try CR's another time. Ordered the Veal Chop. They gave me a Pork Chop. When I complained they argued with me and told me they did not even have pork on the menu. Unfortunately they do. Chili rubbed Pork Tenderloin. I shared the chop with my guests and the confirmed it was Pork. What ever happened to the customer is always right? I'm not one to make a scene so we paid or bill and left. So... we returned to give them another shot. We had actually gone with another family for Easter fixed menu dinner earlier in the year and food was just OK. Not sure about the service as we were all gabbing away and frankly didn't quite notice the service. This time is was just my wife and I again. We again were seated at a deuce right in the middle of the travel lane to the back of the restaurant. Sat for over 10 minutes with no acknowledgement from anyone. I walked back up to the hostess stand. Older lady walked back to our table with me. Looked over her shoulder to see "our waiter", said he should be right with us and walked away. No apology, no offer to get us started with a drink... nothing. "Our waiter" finished gabbing with the table of six and proceeded to walk right past us. We grabbed our coats and walked out. The older hostess lady said nothing but a younger male host asked us what happened (he had seen me come up before). The older lady hostess tried to make it sound like she had told the waiter to service us which we told the younger guy was absolutely not true. Looking over your shoulder is not "telling the waiter" anything. The younger guy offered us a free drink to stay but sorry, the damage was already done. Poor service. Too many other choices on the seacoast to waste time here again. read more

I was excited to go since I had enjoyed CR Sparks in Bedford tremendously. A friend and I went for Restaurant Week. It was disappointing on many levels. First, the ambiance. If you're Biff and Muffy, and you're taking the grandparents out to dinner, you will love this place, as will they. It's so preppy 1980s, a little too Connecticut country club for my taste. Our waitperson offered up the menus and informed us that we could also choose from the restaurant week menu if we wanted, but the way she said it was very ominous, as if choosing from that menu would be our undoing. The regular menu was quite pricy, along the lines of the Wellington Room - but that is where any comparison ends. Because we were hungry, and there was no bread forthcoming, we ordered crab cakes. The mixture was tasty, but they were not piping hot, not crisp, and not exactly cooked in the center. Of course, then the bread came out. We did order off the Restaurant Week menu. We asked that the Caprese salad come with olive oil instead of the balsamic reduction, as my friend dislikes balsamic vinegar. Wouldn't you know, hers came with the reduction. I had the maple bourbon pecan crusted chicken. I've been cooking with pecans for 30+ years and have never before bit down on slivers of shell...until tonight. The sides were roasted potatoes and asparagus which were good but plain. The chicken was on the sweetish side, but otherwise bland and unremarkable. My friend ordered salmon which arrived accompanied by two white sides, cauliflower and orecchiette. It has to appeal to eye first; this didn't. We were both given the same dessert even though I distinctly ordered two different ones. I thought the waitperson was listening, but apparently not. I could understand this if it had been a very busy, crazy night, but the place was empty. The mixed up salads and mixed up desserts - our waitperson was just checked out. With drinks, which were on the expensive side, our $29 dinners came to well over $100. It wasn't worth the money OR the calories. Restaurant week is all about turning people on to what you have to offer; learned my lesson and would never go back here again. read more

The service is good. The drinks are amazing. The food ...FLAT. We were highly disappointed at the quality of all the food we ate. Favorite restaurant of my Dad's, we had brunch there today. Dad and his fired has shrimp and grits, which they said was good and they ate every bite. I had crepes which were fresh and tasty. They came with maple syrup, but I only used a bit because they were so sweet on their own. The location is convenient, and the setting is beautiful. read more

Chuck has brought his same winning formula to Hampton and the Seacoast! Dinner for 4 adults was very, very good. Our server was excellent and she was knowledgeable about the menu and Specials. 3 of us chose the Pre Fixe and I ordered from the menu. The drinks were very good as were the appetizers. I have mixed feelings about this place. Was recommended by some friends...starting with the good: the Gnocchi appetizer we shared as a taste for the table was to die for. Basically just as good as you would imagine from the description. On top of that, they make a great martini here. Go with blue cheese olives and it's a perfect cocktail for dinner. However, I couldn't give more than three stars because the bad: $24 tagliatelle entree was the blandest and most boring pasta dish I have ever consumed...I had to shower it in salt and pepper just to get some kind of flavor out of it. It says basil pesto on the menu, but there was zero basil, zero olive oil, and it was the furthest thing from a pesto I've ever experienced because it had no sauce whatsoever. It was just unseasoned cooked pasta with some veggies, pine nuts, and a sprinkle of Parmesan. I really hate complaining because overall the atmosphere of the place is great and it seems like it's worth giving another try, but that tagliatelle was basically just cooked pasta with little else. Had early birthday dinner at CR's last night. The ambiance is smart and comfortable, very New Hampshire. We started with pumpkin ravioli and the Waygu meatballs. Outstanding. A few of us had chili rubed pork tenderloin. It was very tasty and perfectly cooked. Our server Kim was very knowledgeable and professional without the attitude. The ambiance in this restaurant is top notch. Five out five. The food is very good. The menu changes seasonally and js not overwhelming with choices. The wait staff is excellent and the bartenders are as well. I would give this five stars but most would put this in the pricey category. That is really the only negative I have found. Worth the trip. Went for.Christmas Eve and had a reservation. We wanted to have a drink at the bar first. Pressured into being seated early and rushed through dinner. Obviously they were trying to get as many reservations in as possible instead of providing a great dining experience. Big let down, not relaxing at all! We haven't been since it was Bonta and I'm so glad we were there early on Friday night. We sat at the bar - bartenders Jimmy and Anna were great - Anna helped with wine choice - there are some good wines on the list.
