    Homeless just behind our site.
    Robert S.

I guess Ill start with, there is lots to like about this RV Resort. The sites are exceptionally clean, I had no issues with the staff (others have mention negative reviews but everything was fine for us), the pool/spa, dog run, bathrooms were all fine if unexceptional. The park is walking distance to shoreline drive and entertainment. All great so far. The not so great is largely out of their control. Homeless just outside the fence (cops literally drove by and did nothing, loud motorcycles all day down the bike path, and the need to cover up the waterfront views because of it. This is what caused my rating, not the park itself. I would suggest sites through the middle, not along the waterfront or shoreline drive. The middle site have a nice grass area between them and will be a bit quieter. If the city would clean things up and keep the motorcycles off the bike trails, this could be a 5 star place (note that we also heard gun shots both nights while there.). Its too bad.

Very clean & well kept RV spot. Nicely located for venturing out into the city & surrounding area. Staff works hard & are diligent in keeping the place organized & tidy. Downside, the spot is surrounded by a chain link barbed wire fence and has on-site security at night. Having security is a plus, BUT the fencing speaks to the potential issues if such precautions were not taken. The barbed fencing does detract from the outdoor experience. Otherwise, good spot to spend a night if you're swinging through the area.

Friendly staff, small clean gated RV park, quiet. Restrooms and showers were clean. Close to shops and restaurants. Convenient bike and walking trail. There were some homeless along the trail but weren't too worrisome, we just walked past them. We took the trail several times a day. Can't beat the cooler temps here during the summer. We will definitely be back.

Sunset from spot 1. Preferred spot 50.

I've got very mixed feelings and reviews about this RV park. We came to stay for two nights and had a wonderful experience. Great location, loved our spot and everyone was very nice. We loved it so much that we decided to shorten our stay at Dockweiler RV park and come back for a few more days. When we called to make the reservation, we asked if spot 50 was available again and were told we can't pick our spot until we check in. Okay, no problem. When we got there, spot 50 was available - score! While we were there, my husband got called for work meeting he needed to fly out for and we both thought this would be a great spot for me to stay while he was gone. When we went to extend our stay, we were told we would have to move because that spot was reserved already and the new reservations had priority over us. We were confused by that since we were told before that you couldn't reserve a spot. We were also told our new spot was the only one available for the weekend. The place never filled up. Half the spots were empty. Left a bad taste in our mouth since we had to pick up all of our stuff and move even though we were planning on being there for a week. They definitely treated us as a non-priority and it stung. If my husband hadn't needed to fly out of LAX, we would've left. It's a shame because we really love the location, but their policies are inconsistent. Then the day we checked out, my husband had a work call at 12 and asked if we could sit in our spot for another hour. We were told we would have to pay another day's fee. The park was practically empty. No offer to let us pay for the hour or just be nice and let us sit there for a bit. Everything was packed up and ready, just needed to get on a meeting for half an hour. We've had empty parks allow us to hang around longer when it's clear we aren't in the busy season. I went in to the store/office to look for a specific item before we rolled out and there was no - thank you for staying with us or anything. Anyway, great location, beautiful and well-kept, but very disappointed in how we were treated in the end. They need to get their staff on the same page and have better customer service from certain team members.

We have been on the road 3 months now and literally around the USA. Golden Shore RV Resort is the nicest campground we have been on this adventure. Generous sized sites, well maintained, lovely grounds. Located next to the bike path is you are bikers. While there are homeless people nearby, this was not a concern. We will be back!

Our site backed up to the marsh and s was so peaceful!

Located at the mouth of the LA River, it's surprising to see such a large natural area right in the heart of downtown Long Beach. Although the Los Cerrritos wetlands in east Long Beach are much bigger, those wetlands are restricted access, so Golden Shores is really the largest salt marsh accessible to the public. The wetlands include several different salt marsh grasses (like California cord grass and salt grass), as well as pickelweed. Mudflats and open tidal channels provide a diversity of habitats that provide foraging grounds for many different birds. This is a great place to watch egrets, herons, ducks, terns and a variety of shorebirds. You can watch these birds through the fence that keeps you out of the marsh. This fence is kind of ugly, and it clearly tempts the uncivilized elements of our city to dump their trash into the marsh. I've called the city of Long Beach to report about this illegal dumping. There are plans to remove the fencing and improve the upland areas, as part of the LA River Greenway. There are some interpretive signs that inform you about wetland ecology and wildlife. The upland areas are landscaped with a mix of native and non-native plants. The LA River Bikepath goes right around the perimeter of the park, and the Passport Bus stops nearby at Catalina landing, so it's easily accessible without a car. There's a nearby parking lot too, if you must drive. Also: This is a great place to get a view of the Queen Mary. Most people never view her from this angle.

Good things: We thought the bathrooms and showers were very clean. The food at Moes was good as were the drinks. The store was well-stocked with toys, food, and clothing. The pool and jacuzzi were great, and the kids loved them. Kids' activities and games were plentiful, and they also enjoyed the playground. Staff was helpful in the office. Security was present and doing lots of rounds the first two nights (did not see them the busy Friday night). The camp was VERY, impressively, quiet at night. Middling things (mind you, the campground is not in control of these!): the sand is not soft sand like at the coastal beaches. Kids will probably need shoes for the shells and rocks, and it's packed super hard. The campground is under the flight path of John Wayne airport, so expect to know when it's 7 am each day since that's when the planes begin roaring overhead. Not-so-great things: the sites are super close together. Yes, you will be packed in like sardines, especially in the "standard" back row sites, which were completely filled when we visited. It is hard to back in when trucks are parked along the road, in front of the tiny sites- there is VERY little room for error. The sites are ALL DIRT, which I did not think would be so bad until I lived it. (Never again, unless I buy some turf at some point.) When campers dump their waste, expect to get some whiffs. (Many reviews note something about the angle of the dump/hose- we don't have a bathroom in our trailer so I can't attest to that issue.) Finally, the single biggest deal breaker for us was the allowed use of wood burning fire pits at sites. Since everyone is crammed in there, people burning wood on Friday night resulted in the paths and trailers and even the bathrooms being filled with smoke. They should only allow gas burning fire pits! So yeah- if we return it will only ever be mid week and preferably in the off-season.

The employee appeared completely untrained, offered no helpful information, and acted inconvenienced by a basic customer inquiry. I hope management takes customer experience more seriously moving forward and provides better staff training.
