This place is so cool. I don't know how I have missed it! The interior is a step back to the 1950s. The walls have the most unique touches of Asian art. The red lighting makes for horrific selfies but definitely sets a fun vibe. I absolutely adore this little speak easy. And when you leave you have an epic view of Union Station. At 5:50 on Christmas Day, this place was packed. But as soon as a spot opened up, you were welcome to it. The rotation of seating was fairly smooth and the people standing looking for seats found one in under 5 minutes. This staff works fast and nonstop. They were moving swiftly to get everyone served and set. They do have a food menu including a champagne and caviar special. This is somewhere to bring someone when you want them to feel special and experience a completely different side of Denver. We had a French 75 and a Sidecar. On a past trip to Denver we were checking out a historic hotel and stumbled upon a speakeasy inside. It felt like you had stepped into the perfect "pre prohibition" underground speakeasy. This is a classic prohibition-style cocktail bar in downtown Denver. I'm pretty sure I read something about this being the longest-standing prohibition-style bar in Denver, which if true is pretty cool! The ambiance is so cool - red lighting, art deco wall decorations - really makes you feel like you're back in the 1920s (or what I imagine that was like, anyway). They have a great classic cocktail menu with some creative things too. I was impressed by the menu. I was prepping for dry January/starting early, so I wanted something non-alcoholic. They have a few mocktails, but can't get very creative beyond that if you have special preferences due to ingredient limitations - so that was my only complaint, because there was really only 1 thing that sounded good to me on the mocktail menu. I did try sips of my friends' drinks (one got a beet cocktail & one a glass of wine) - both of those were really good! Overall good experience! You'll definitely want to go here at least once! read more

I loved visiting the Cruise Room during the pre- pandemic era because they played 1920-30s style music that really added to the vibe of the Oxford and the history of the space. Now, they play rando modern music and it's lost the lustre. On a side note: we stayed at the Oxford in the summer of 2020 and the hotel went above and beyond to make it a truly magical experience. So it's quite disappointing that the new owners of the Cruise Room have not honored the depression era vibe that made this space a quaint time capsule. read more

The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that we were unsure if we were supposed to seat ourselves or if the host or server was going to tell us to do something. We stood around for a while at the entrance and the servers/hosts were just having a conversation and didn't acknowledge us until my friend went over and asked if we could just seat ourselves. This is a cool Denver experience. You will totally miss this bar unless you know about it. You have to enter the Oxford Hotel then immediately turn left - there is a door to enter. The space is very dark and intimate. The red lighting adds a special glow and ambience that can take you back in time. There is a beautiful cocktail menu. I enjoyed the French 75. The space is very small and they do not take reservations. I highly recommend that you are prepared to stand, come very early, or at "odd times" to have a seat. The night breeze was crisp, I stepped out looking for the infamous Cruise Room and as I walked back and forth on the sidewalk I came to realize the Cruise Room was inside The Oxford Hotel. Upon entering the lobby of the hotel, you are taken back to a 1930's glitz and glam era. Look to the left and be enticed by the mesmerizing red glow inviting you to experience the bygone time of refined entertainment, prohibition and classiness all in one place. It takes a minute for your eyes to adjust to the lighting and when they do you can not help but notice the small details on the walls, seating, bar area, patrons and the second door leading into the back of the lobby towards the WC. The libations have the strength of their Prohibition Era beginnings and the small plates of food provides just enough to balance that potency. The bar staff were busy as we arrived and seemed not to notice us as we took our seats, but do not be deceived they are keenly aware of the surroundings and their timing for service was impeccable. This place...this place is a VIBE. Didn't know what to expect when we were headed here but boy was it a surprise. It's a bar located next to the lobby of The Oxford hotel. This ambiance of this place sets you back to the early 1900's and it was around at that time as well. The lighting, decor and attire all scream 20's. We ended up sitting at the bar and had some fantastic service. I ordered the Sidecar and it was as perfect as a side car can be. No variation, sometimes you just want a classic. The service was also 10/10. As a side note, the hotel is gorgeous and I will look into staying here at least one night next time I'm in town. Also their Christmas decoration is on point. I wasn't sure what to expect at the Cruise Room. The reviews can be spotty, and a lot of industry people you talk to in the city kind of roll their eyes when discussing it. I can understand why, it's a bit of a kitschy place in a hotel that doesn't necessarily attract the cocktail bar type crowd. It's a little busy, a little cramped, I get the reticence. On a Saturday night? Absolutely not. But, could I see being a semi-regular for a post-work drink while being transported back to post-Prohibition 1933, the vintage art deco enveloping you along with era appropriate music? Absolutely. This review is for a Wednesday evening, and sure, it was unbelievably packed. There were two bartenders running around like crazy, taking orders, making drinks, bussing tables, and performing routine crowd control. And, even so, our drinks came out pretty quickly and extremely made. I'll point you to the Blossom Sour, a really nice take on a whiskey sour using Japanese whiskey, lychee and honey. It's a unique combination where nothing gets in anyone's way, the lychee and honey play really nicely off the lemon, while the whisky and bitters accentuate the sour bite. The egg white adds a nice mouthfeel, though here is where I perhaps wanted just a little more. So yes, it's a little kitschy. And I can see it being a nightmare on a weekend. But don't sleep on the quality the bartenders are capable of - definitely worth stopping in! read more

Somehow I hadn't made it around to the cruise room despite it being a staple in Denver and having so much history! This is a quasi-speakeasy, giving vibes of prohibition but without the full hidden door concept. You walk in and the ambience of red everywhere hits you. It's fun, but hard to see inside! The cocktail list is pretty extensive and I opted for something creamy on a chilly, wet evening. The presentation was so beautiful! Even with the red lights, it made such an impression. We ordered some potatoes which came with this amazing sauce- we had to ask for seconds on the sauce and our server happily obliged. I wish the menu was a little more extensive and priced more reasonable but for such an institution, I get it. The Cruise Room was a lovely experience. Located inside The Oxford Hotel, this historic bar is definitely something to see. Only open limited hours, something like 5-10pm, I'd highly advise checking it out right when it opens or you will be waiting for a seat. It's first come first serve and no hostess, which can often be frustrating. We arrived at 830pm one evening and had no chance at getting a seat. Arrived at open another day and we had our pick. I chose The Cruise Rook because I was excited to try their wide variety of martinis on the menu. Unfortunately, it appears they've recently updated their menus and removed their specialty martinis. Perhaps they still make these, but we were not offered. I ordered a simple martini and it was fabulous. We also ordered some food options including their oysters and fried mushrooms. The latter were the most interesting mushrooms I've ever tried! Very woody, earthy and good. Definitely make a point to have a drink at this historic stop. read more
