Here I am again walking into crunch fitness. Month five of still not having more than five coat hangars. The blonde middle aged woman working the front desk hates her job. She actually has an attitude when you complain that four of the 6 stairnasters do not work . The place is dirty , nothing ever works . It's not worth the $15 a month. I have never joined a gym and stuck to it till I went to Crunch PARAMUS - for the price it's excellent- I don't know what bells and whistles people are expecting from a 10-50 dollar membership!!!! They have great equipment, amazing classes and instructors not to mention Convenient times to take classes ... if you are kinD and understanding to issues they approach you in the same way and go above and beyond to put a smile on youR face and be apologetic but if you go with a nAsty attitude!!! Well let me see how you will answer to such folks!!! I have been a member of other gyms who charge over $100.00 and have not seen anything that says their gym deserves to charge more!!!! PROS: This is a semi-hard core gym. It has a cross fit section, large machine and free weight sections, and has all the equipment you need. The bathroom is clean and the workers are very friendly! CONS: There aren't enough barbells or barbell clamps. There are twice the amount of equipment that demands barbells then there are barbells. The bathroom was cramped and the parking lot was small. Despite the sections being large, there were several parts of them that were cramped. OVERALL: This is a great gym and i recommend becoming a member here. Parking and space inside may be issues, however, its still one of the better gyms in the area. read more

Don't sign up. The gym is great but the management .. not so much. I'm giving it 1 star because it was the lowest option. They have a personal trainer that have sexually harassed fellow employees and clients. Management became aware and no actions were taken place and the gym kept the trainer on staff without repercussions. On the other hand, they fired an outstanding Zumba instructor with a strong following because his Zumba followers had a great time in the class but the gym wanted to quiet the members. They also have poor management that don't understand the meaning of "customer service". You feel like a bother when approaching management with inquiries about anything. They treat their employees like dirt. I've witness good, honest people leave because of the management. I would never sign up to a place that doesn't treat their employees with respect. read more

MUST READ for anybody considering personal training. Hopefully nobody gets exploited the way that I and others have. I have never had any problem with any gym, including crunch in Waldwick, for over 5 years. Before the summer, I agreed to a 3 month personal training package. I was told it could be paid in installments, and didn't need to be paid up front. I told the front desk that I would be away for the summer, and wouldn't be able to train till I get back, and that I would like to pay the package over time. I was told that it wouldn't be a problem, and that i could pay over time. Instead of receiving any notification, Crunch billed me the entire balance, despite telling me I could pay over the time of the membership. I only took one personal training session before leaving for the summer, and as soon as I left to visit my family I got billed fully, against their word. One month after getting billed in full, I would then get billed for another ENTIRE personal training package, month after month ON TOP of my membership fee's, something that we never spoke about once. Because I entirely paid off the balance in full (Which I should've never paid knowing how they would exploit this), they put me onto a renewed personal training package, which they never told me when I signed up, as they want to be sneaky. Crunch says you need to come in person to pay, so I sat, with my family across the country watching hundreds and hundreds of dollars add up with no way to cancel. As soon as I got back, after only 3 months, Crunch said I owed them all the money for the personal training packages that I never agreed to do while on vacation, and that there would be no way to cancel, unless I paid off all of the previous balance (which I paid in full, despite them telling me I could use a payment plan for). Mind you, that for only 3 months of being away, they now say I owe 900$, on top of the 900$ I already paid, just in order to cancel being billed another month. Not only this, but they say since my billing date is too close to the following month, I have to pay for next month as well. This is the worst gym I've ever been apart of, as they completely exploited the information I disclosed to them about my travel, and chose to not to communicate, and lie to me about payment plans, which would ultimately drain my balance. I even communicated to my trainer before I left that my car needed serious repairs, so I can't even get to the gym. Now I owe close to 2000$ after a few months, and will get billed $300 a month until it's all paid off. I never agreed to this, this was never communicated, and worse, they chose to not communicate and instead verbally assured my ability to pay for the only package I agreed to, knowing fully that I would get exploited. I reached out to the email provided 2 weeks ago, no response. I called their phone number, no help. I hope that others can see this and truly think twice or even three times, for any type of service at this gym. read more

This gym changed ownership in 2013, and I was a member as this happened. I finally left in January of 2014 since the parking situation was getting too difficult for me to deal with. It's very hard to find parking here during the busy times - early morning or around 6pm at night. The gym itself is spacious but nothing to rave about. Much like the parking lot, it's very busy and waiting for equipment is commonplace. The staff can be very impatient at times and the service is pretty much nonexistent (perhaps they are short-staffed?) If you like crowded poor quality gyms and can deal with rudeness from both staff and patrons, this is the place for you. read more

For $10/month you can get a membership here. They have just about everything I need here. As far as I've seen it never gets crazy packed. It does get busy but not to point where I would stop coming. They do not offer towel service. This is unfortunate because that is something I've come to enjoy at other gyms, but if that is what I lose so that I only have to pay $10 a month, so be it. The place is very clean and a lot of the equipment is new. I would have liked to see higher quality barbells but those are hard to come by at commercial gyms. The staff is very nice, so that is a plus. They offer a few different membership options that allow you to get tanning and classes for free but I've yet to try either. Overall I like this place primarily because it meets all my needs. Plenty of free weights? Check. Machines? Check. Locker room? Yup. Great price? Definitely. read more

The gym itself is decent. Besides the constant parking problems and beyond terrible staff. I had nothing but problems at this gym. I signed up for personal training last October with Jacob, who was awful. He would cancel on me at the last minute. I would still go to work out only to find him there at the gym chilling with his baby mama! To top that off, he would still charge my account like we had done the session. After having complained and to find out I wasn't the only one he was doing this to, he gets fired. (I also want to note the trainers are only available 9-5. So if you have a regular full time job good luck finding any time to work out) So, I'm then paired with the personal training manager, Oscar. I told oscar I had 3 herniated disks in my neck/back and needed to be extra careful (this is the exact reason why I wanted PERSONAL training). I worked out with him twice and then he pushes me off to "boot camp class." Basically just throws me in there. Inevitably, after a few times at boot camp class I end up hurting my back. So I have to stop going. I'm now so furious and am past the 3 month requirement and I tell Oscar twice in person I want to stop my auto bill. I also texted him AND I have texts from him saying it was cancelled. So now at this point I have over 20 sessions of unused training that is just racking up. Which was another reason I didn't want to keep getting charged each month. Low and behold my card was charged again and again. I contacted the gym and was told the store manager Terry would get back to me the next day...she didn't. So I called two days later and told them I wanted to speak with the store manager, I specifically said NOT Oscar. Of course who do they put on the phone? Oscar. He tells me she's not in and apologizes to me and says he doesn't know what's going on with my account. Hence why I wanted to speak with Terry in the first place. He then promises me up and down I will hear from Terry the next morning. As I'm sure you can predict, I did not get a call from Terry the next morning. In fact when I ended up calling that afternoon she was there and had never even gotten the message to call me! I was furious, livid, beyond words at this point. She rattled off a bunch of excuses and didn't even apologize until I said I wanted my whole account canceled, not just personal training. Do. Not. Come. Here. The staff at this gym is beyond atrocious. Just spend the extra cash and go to 24 Hour Fitness. read more

Eh. Started going to this location again due to changes in my schedule. Was intending on making this my main gym. My membership is an all-access pass. Showed up mid-week to just do an easy jog & had misplaced my tag. One other time this happened, I was able to get into the gym without any issues after giving the guy at the front desk my name. This time, there were three people at the front desk with one of them. One of them was the owner. Owner was a class-A you-know-what about the whole deal. I try to be an easy customer, you know? When her people at the front desk had a hard time looking my info up at the counter, I pointed out to them, to try to help, that it was something that had been managed beforehand when I had the issue in the past. My last name is a hard one for people to spell & I figured that there was something like that going on. Owner tells me, in a nasty tone that did NOT change, "Oh, he probably just let you in." Then they tell me that they have to call the gym that I had signed up at to get my membership number. Fine, no problem. Girl has me write down my name on a piece of paper. While she's calling, the girl tells me that I should write the membership number down in case I need to refer to it again. This makes sense to me, so I agree and get ready to write it down. At this point, I don't really have issues. I'm thinking it's my bad for misplacing the tag again and am trying to think of where it is. Just want to deal with it and get going inside. The owner with her eyes wide & STARING straight at me... squawks LOUDLY behind the girl: "YOU COULD JUST USE THE PHONE APP!" The girl turns around to look at her, and I look at both of them kind of incredulously. I use the phone app, yeah. But never to check in. I didn't even know you could do that. I had only used it to reserve classes & had never seen that bit. Useful feature, right? Then the next logical thought occurs to me. Hmmm. Couldn't we have just avoided this altogether if they had asked me about this in the beginning? Was there really a need to go through this drama? I am just a customer trying to get a jog in while the car is being worked on. I looked at them both and pointed this out. I said something along the lines of, "Well, looks like I don't really need to write this down, right? And we didn't really have to call the other gym up for my number, either." Looks like we dropped the ball here. I went on my way. When I was walking out, the owner waves me over to the counter and hands me my tags. She says, "Looks like someone found this in the parking lot. Maybe they dropped when you left the gym yesterday." I thanked her & left. Overall, this experience didn't totally turn me off to the gym as my needs have been changing. However, I decided to look into downgrading my membership & ended up doing a comparison to my old gym again. My old gym had great service but no option of classes which was why I had signed up for Crunch in the first place. In considering things like cost & what I need now, customer service experiences are really what make the difference between staying here and moving on elsewhere. Unfortunately, this experience makes other gyms look more attractive especially when you already have experience with them that weren't quite like this. It doesn't really become about the price at this point as I had already been paying the NYC price for an all-access pass. My view of this gym is that it seems like a new-ish franchise where the management is still working out kinks & learning how to run the place well. My recommendation would be to not treat your customers like trash next time because they are capable of moving on elsewhere. When they do, things like customer service matter more. There's more than one gym in this area with decent, accessible equipment, with customer service that isn't poor, and with BETTER parking options. Do better next time and you won't lose customers to the competition. read more

I joined Crunch in January of 2014 as part of my New Year Resolution that I swore to myself I would keep this time. Overall, I would say that I am a fan of Crunch Fitness in Paramus. I pay $20 a month to join in classes and use the facilities. The Zumba instructors are on time and go for the full hour; none of that "I'm getting tired/ out of music so I'm going to end our class early" business. Also, if they are late, they make up the time i.e., if they are 10 minutes late they go 10 minutes past the class end time. However, in the past 7 months that I've been a member it has only happened once and I attend multiple classes a week (3-5 classes). I would have to say that the best asset to Crunch is Sam! She truly is amazing. I take her Pilates reformer class every Wednesday. She really knows what she's doing and takes care of you. She's hands on and let's you know what you're doing wrong and what to change to do it right! I think this is so important because if you're allowed to work out without the proper form, you run the risk of injury. It's also obvious she cares about the equipment. To me, it just shows her passion for what she does. She clearly cares about the quality of her instruction and performance. Sam is also very encouraging, you really do feel motivated to take care of yourself and have confidence that you CAN achieve your goal. The only thing I have to complain about is that parking can be a problem during what I call "Fitness Rush Hour" around 5-7 on the weekdays but there is parking in the lot just across the way. Having to walk a little further isn't that big of a deal, especially when you're there to exercise. My only true gripe is when I signed up, I was met by Oscar, a personal trainer. We tried to schedule a time for my free personal training that comes with my membership and to his defense I had a somewhat small window to work with - Monday or Wednesdays after 5pm. He didn't have any immediate availability and told me that he would call be but he never did. read more

Let me start by saying my issue is with the Paramus location specifically. I have been trying to switch my home gym to Clifton for almost 2 months now, I dislike this location so much I've only been there 3 times. It's dark, and not motivating . There are not adequate cleaning supplies for the equipment. There are very few spray bottles maybe 4, and the bathrooms are rarely clean. I have spoken to multiple people to try and get my home gym switched to Clifton but have been getting the run around for 2 months. I have physically went to Paramus to get this done but they "couldn't locate the paper work". Jesse the manager has yet to do the proper paperwork to assist me after numerous promises to do so. The only person who as been helpful was a staff member by the name of Eric. I pay for peak membership and can't bring a guest with me to the Clifton location because Paramus is dragging their feet. Ok so I am updating my original review as it was written in the heat of the moment. My usual gym is crunch Fairlawn, but i started taking the spin classes In Paramas at 5:45am. Needless to say my first experience was not a good one. But since then I have gone back , and the gym has been open at 5am and the spin instructors Karen and Stacey are awesome. At 5:45am they are very motived and focused. The gym itself is kept on good clean shape. And i see Rachel (Mgr) on top of things. Classes were great and being greeted at the door by Niko (hope I spelled that correctly) was something I'm not used to since when I walk into La Fitness in Paramus - nobody even looks up from their cell phones to even say hello. Niko explained everything I needed to know and made me feel comfortable walking into a new gym for the first time. Amazing classes and a lot of classes. Instructors mix up the workout and are very professional. My teenage daughter left her wallet in an unlocked locker for 30 minutes on Friday, May 24, 2019 and the cash was stolen. Yes, this was a stupid, naive mistake. Of course there are no cameras in the womens locker room. I was hoping that Crunch would review video of people entering the locker room and follow up with my daughter but they haven't. I'm already a gym elsewhere and use this gym a couple days of week as an alternative since it's minutes away from my job. I joined this particular because it had decent hammer strength machines which are basically all gone, classes, and sauna. I took a couple of classes wasn't impressed by the instructors. Sauna their is none in the women's locker it's just an empty room that hasn't been repaired in months. Equipment SUCKS the cable machines are all tacky and stick or jams. It's all this Hoist Machine ideally for beginners but not ideally if you like to train old school. It's starting to feel like another planet fitness/CrossFit type gym and now I'm debating if just cancelling and looking into another facility. I'm paying the highest membership and receiving half the perks. Disappointed in this gym and don't recommend it the staff always look like it's a social gathering at the front desk and can't be bother because their conversation is much more important of what the member needs. sneaky billing practices! Crunch Fair Lawn moved or closed on July 31/2019. Other locations outside of fair lawn is out of the question for me. Last billing was July 15 that means membership should be active until August 15. I only got half value because they moved to Paramus (same owner) before August began. I never asked for refund for half the month because I could not go to another location once you moved to Paramus. When I came to paramus crunch office to cancel on August 5, they told me that now if I want to cancel I have to pay on Aug 15 - Sep 15. Not only that ethically you have to want to refund members half month because you were closed in Fair Lawn, you actually want me to pay for extra month when you are closed in Fair Lawn. What kind of scamy billing practice is that? Customer support for the Crunch franchise is the worse I have seen, there is no corporate customer support phone number. read more

I got a pass so I could check out the classes at Crunch Fitness in Paramus. I circled the parking lot literally 6 times and could not get a parking spot and left. Went back the following day and the same thing happened. Needless to say the parking has never improved at this gym and if anything with more businesses and people in the area its worse than ever. To say that i am furious about their billing practices is being kind. Crunch Fair Lawn closed. i received no letter, email, or phone call. i don't use the gym much in the summer because i run outside. i found out about the closing from my friends on facebook and by that time it was too late to get to the gym to close the membership. when i called them, i was told that the membership was transferred to the paramus location, which isn't an option for me. so i called billing and explained the situation and they said i had to call the paramus location to cancel the membership. so, i called paramus and was told that i have to come in to the gym in order to cancel it. which is ridiculous. i don't have the time to schlepp to some gym where my membership got transferred without my consent. i've been a member since they opened and to say that i will never recommend the gym franchise to anyone is an understatement. read more

I cannot express in a review what we went through with this "people" my 4 yr olds son was hurt in their nursery causing him to be taken to the ER however they refuse to tell me what happen even going as far as saying nothing happened but my son said he fell hitting his chest and was helped up by "the lady" who I later learned is named "Niko" she was rude and could care less that my toddler was in the way to the ER while on the phone but once I arrive to fill out an incident report (which their GM Terry then decided not let me fill out) she was customer service agent of the year. FYI I was told by Terry their GM that their camera system does not work and hasn't for 10 yrs so keep that if your a member of this gym or thinking of becoming also know that if you leave your child in their care while you work out you could be headed with your child to the ER right after and they won't give a hoot and try to wash their hands of everything. I would like to thank the Paramus police department for helping me get them to give me a report to fill out. Was also told by 1 of their employees that there's lot of theft but since the cameras don't work it basically goes no where if you file a complaint with them. These people are not their to help you! They don't have a camera room which means they have no monitors to even view what's going on so in conclusion. They have cameras that is transmitting a live feed however it's not being recorded and there's no place in the gym to view it so basically they have no camera system making this an unsafe place to be in and a unsafe place to leave your child in (the nursery). I had been a member of World Gym for 10 years prior to them turning the business over to Crunch Fitness. World Gym was one of the best of its time. Their equipment (Hammer Strength, Icarian, and Precor) was top notch and the vibe in there was great. Gym etiquette was at its finest. The gym was always clean. You could feel the energy every time you walked through the doors. Since its recent acquisition by Crunch Fitness this place has been a sinking ship in terms of quality, both equipment and members. It's inexpensive membership cost has invited all walks of life through the doors. Nearly all of the equipment has been replaced by some brand called Hoist and Star Trac. These manufacturers are garbage for those of you who don't know. All of the equipment has been moved around and rearranged making the place A LOT tighter and uncomfortable. People are always on top of each other or walking over one another. GYM ETIQUETTE HAS BEEN THROWN OUT THE WINDOW!!! NOBODY RE-RACKS THEIR WEIGHTS!!! There are weights all over the place. This drives me INSANE!!! The dumbbell rack has become a complete mix and match of weights. Plates are just thrown around all over. People just leave their weights up on the bars and walk away when their finished with their set. This not only creates a mess, but it makes it hard to tell if someone is actually finished using the weights/machines or not. Clean up after yourselves! This is gym etiquette 101!!! I recently saw an old lady go bezerk on some guy for using a treadmill. Most of the other treadmills were available, but she yelled at him saying she was holding that particular treadmill for herself for when she was done with her other workout which would take about 30 min. GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE GYM LADY! Cleanliness of the gym has faltered. It's become common to see overflowing garbage cans, trash, and towels thrown around the locker room. Soccer moms are always speeding through the parking lot like a bat out of hell. I'm actively looking for another gym to go to. Can't happen soon enough. These guys aren't doing anyone a favor by offering a $10/mo membership. I would rather pay more (like I used to for World Gym $50/mo), but have quality equipment and a clean facility. this gym is average, nothing special. HOWEVER, be very very wary of using their one month offer. despite speaking to the worker to make sure VERY clearly about what I would be paying, they still managed to screw me out of almost $100. my workload skyrocketed after the first free month, so I decided to cancel but was A ok with paying the first payment of 24.95 for the second month cuz I had signed up. but then I was going to cancel. but because I was a couple of days late in making the FIRST payment (which I was hoping to do in cash but got charged without ANY notice) for some absurd reason I now have to ALSO pay for the third month AND the annual fee! what the FUCK is the annual fee for? it's a monthly fee and just an extra payment once a year for what shits and giggles? they do not email out bills, NO notice before or after charging you, and not nearly clear enough when they get you to sign up/sign. I guess my lawyer should have read my gym contract. if you're going to join, you MUST write it in your calendar and follow up bc they will call you for their promotional classes but they will not send you a warning, receipt, or copy of your bill. nothing. they just charge away once they have your CC info. read more

The staff is great. I especially love Niko and Eric at the front desks. They are always super welcoming and even when I don't want to be there they make me want to be there. The gym is clean and really stepping up the game. All of the new equipment and the turf is AWESOME. I can't wait for the spin room to be up and going. Personal Training: I've had two trainers at the gym and they are both AWESOME. I'm going to talk about Eric because I've seen him longer. Eric puts his all into each and everyone of his sessions with clients. He always starts my sessions with a lift that I know and then pumps up the weight, having me beat personal records week after week. Then he usually teaches me a new lift (that I end up loving more then my usual lifts). Even on the days I don't have him he is always fixing my form or adding a more challenging workout. He pushes me every day I see him at the gym, he truly loves what he does and is very good at it. He has me on track to hit every goal I have to get healthier and more fit. Simply put Eric is not only a great person but also a great trainer. The only thing I don't like is when they re did the the locker room they took out the sauna. read more

I was paying $20/month at Crunch Fitness. For the price I was paying for gym membership and classes, it was a very good deal. The problems came when I wanted to cancel my account. I had to move to Arizona abruptly and tried to cancel via the phone. They wouldn't let me and made a big deal out of how hard it was. It's not hard. The person on the other end of the phone asked me to update my credit card information over the phone because I just got a new card and was technically still a member and needed to pay off the upcoming months. First off, I'm calling you to cancel not figure out how to drag this further. This rubbed me the wrong way. You can take information as sensitive as credit card info over the phone but you won't take a cancellation? I called at least 3 times before someone competent, a manager, could come to the phone. Relief! Not. This person told me that they needed to fax me a cancellation form. Fax. I asked her if she could just email me the form, or scan it in, or take a picture.. anything. She said they couldn't. What century are we living in? This has dragged on a few more days and I couldn't be more happy to close my account. Average gym. They don't have the $10 plan anymore so its either $14 or $20. With the $20 you get to bring a guest whenever you want.

Was a member here for years when it was World and saw the quality of the gym deteriorate before Crunch took over. Thought it would get better with new owners. All they did was bring in new crappy equipment that is mostly broken or does not function properly and take away the old equipment which was in PERFECT working condition. Who cares if it was old!! And no one re-racks weights either!!!! Put your stuff away. Now on too the cleanliness. Correct me if im wrong but the guys they hire to clean the place, shouldn't they make sure they wash there hands after they urinate? I watched the same guy do it multiple times over the course of 2 months, both on Sat mornings. I mean come on, gyms are a breeding site for bacteria and germs. And now the people cleaning the equipment are just spreading piss around. Finally, when I canceled my membership which was month to month, I had to notify them 30 days befote the next billing cycle.....fine, fair enough. I was one day past and the front desk said there's nothing I can do the system.wont allow me to.process it any other way. Good riddance to this place. If you want a cheap gym whos members have no ettiqute then join here. If you are even semi+ serious about working out then run for your life and join retro or golds. read more

They play music way too loud even though most people bring their own head phones. My complaint isn't about the type of music only the volume. read more

Joined this gym 6 months ago looked clean and functional. Over the last six months cleanliness deteriorated, over crowding in the mornings, no gym etiquette. Also, they've been late opening in the mornings, not to mention the steam room or the sauna which works one day and not the next. Actually, the steam room in the men's locker room has been out of service now for over a month and it doesn't look like its getting fixed any time soon. I guess you get what you pay for. . If finances are tight this gym will provide the basic necessities without the amenities they advertise. On the hunt now to relocate to another gym. read more

Three stars for the quality of the machines. at least 5/10 times a ridiculous amount of treadmills are broken. Same with ellipticals. Five stars for the service. The staff is always friendly and I have to give Nico a shoutout because she is AWESOME. Always greeting me and always friendly. Work can be draining and I go to Crunch right after. Its nice to be greeted by such nice people. But yeah. Get new friggin machines! read more

I like this gym. The staff is friendly. They greet me every morning and wish me a good day when I leave. The locker rooms are clean. The showers have a changing area attached, which l love. There are also two separate changing stalls that are not attached to the shower. The bathrooms have toilet seat covers. Again, a small detail that l really appreciate. The sauna is super relaxing. There is a steam room too. The lockers are huge. And there is plenty of space to get dressed. There are plenty of mirrors including full length mirrors. As for the gym, l find the classes to be intense. The few l have tried give me a great, challenging workout. The equipment is good. It is not a perfect 5 stars because the class schedule doesn't have early morning classes and the TV's sometumes have a bad reception. Other than those small issues, i like this gym! read more

I've been going to crunch for almost 2 years now and I love taking the polities class with Sam! She's amazing at what she does and really knows her stuff. I've seen more changes in my body ever since I started the polities. I recommended everyone to try it, you won't regret it! read more
