The seemingly wholesome story behind Crust is what got me through the doors in the Main St. location this morning--but the actual experience is what'll keep me away. Upon entrance, there was no greeting from the worker behind the counter, only a dead stare. Being that no other customers were present and the space is quite small, I was slightly uncomfortable from the onset. After quickly selecting an order from the menu, I was told numerous times that things were out of stock: ALL of their bagels, most croissants (besides chocolate), ham, & tomato for sandwiches, etc. I understand being out of one or two things, but the main inventory that makes up your menu--and on a weekend? While waiting for the order, I watched as the employee (who was dressed as if they just got out of bed) making the sandwiches FaceTimed on the phone with a friend. It was so unprofessional and unsettling that I just wanted to get out of there ASAP. As for the coffees, I ordered one small and one large but received two of one size, unsure of what it was TBH but I didn't really care. I am now out $30 for two coffees, extremely bread-y sandwiches, and off-putting service. read more

Just left Crust- this is a review for their weekday service. Super nice staff, so maybe there's one person reviewers keep getting that's a stinker? The woman that helped me was awesome and she pointed me toward the best danish I've had in my life. I also got an iced coffee- not my style of coffee, so I'm not going to knock them for that. It's very bold. The cheese danish was flaky with a balanced sweetness and it was the size of my head. I was completely impressed with this place. That being said, a weekend will bring less product depending on what time you go in because the bake shop cannot bake infinity items. They will run out because their stuff is so good!! Oh my goodness... This was a plan B option on my morning dog walk, and I am so glad I stumbled upon this place. The pastries are wonderful, the staff is exceedingly helpful and the service they provide is exemplary. They let me keep my dogs inside with me as I waited for my food (service animals in training), which was greatly appreciated. Highly recommend everything on the menu (I got a spread to share with my family, everything we tried was splendid). I trust them with my life and my increasing pant size. read more

What a find! Staying at the nearby Marriott and were looking for something better than what they had available before setting off on our long trip to NY State. Yelped and found this little gem. this is a nice clean, newish and super trendy bakery using local ingredients and works with other Worcester restaurants and businesses to supply them breads and baked items. Its small inside and seating really only permits tiny couples or individuals. If they have outside seating and the weather permits - go with that option! I had come here for discerning palette that wanted not just any breakfast sandwich - but a GOOD one. THis is where Crust hits the mark. The bagels, rolls and OMG THE CROISSANTS are to die for. Absolutely outstanding Almond croissant.. I can still taste it and its been close to 2 years since Ive been back! THey make them with Ham and Gouda as well which were the winning item of the said decerened palette. NOT health food! just damn delicious. Great cream cheese selections too. Coffee and espresso drinks were also made with a small batch roaster brand of coffee which I CANNOT love enough. Such a lovely place to stumble upon. My recommendation if you can - call ahead and see what they have and have them set it aside for you or assemble sandwiches ahead of time. I'm a huge huge huge lover of local bakeries and I'm glad I found my new go-to bakery in Worcester. Crust has 2 locations - one on West Boylston (newer) and one on Main St. Their main bakery off Main St (ha) actually supplies the goods to the West Boylston location, so if you're not local or are really wanting to get something in particular, I'd recommend going to the Main St location in case the West Boylston runs out. Like other typical bakeries, you can get breads, pastries, croissants, cookies, scones, but they also have a decent amount of lunch offerings. For those of you not local to the New England area, they do have apple cider donuts (ahhhh). I wasn't too crazy about their cold brew coffee (didn't seem as potent and not very rich in flavor) but their other coffees sound good! They have many souvenir/retail options. And you can order online in advance via the Toast app/website. Service is very friendly. And they're doing a good job of distancing, sanitizing, and offering sanitation stations to be COVID compliant. I would definitely recommend Crust! read more

After driving past Crust many times, I finally decided to try it and was not disappointed! A wonderful ambience and AMAZING food. I got the chocolate pecan bread pudding (shown) and the Spinach Rarebit (not shown-it was kind of like a soufflé on bread) and both were some of the most amazing pastries I've ever had. I rarely write Yelp reviews anymore, but wanted to put one in for this great local business. Their Instagram is testament to the work they put in to their baked goods. They have a great variety of items and put lots of creativity into their selection. Everything I've gotten from Crust has been excellent (both baked goods and espresso beverages)and I've always found their customer service to be friendly. Found my new favorite croissant place! The egg salad left some flavor to be desired and honestly it felt a bit overpriced but it's "artisan" & fresh so that's to be expected I guess. I paid about $18 for an egg salad sandwich, small chai (which was 8oz not 12 as posted) and almond chocolate croissant which was DELISH- would have loved more chocolate, haha! If you're looking for some fantastic sourdough bread try Crust. I'm hardly an expert but this somewhat heavy loaf has that special 'tang' artisan bread has. Made with love ... it's a beautifully decorated thing to enjoy. Yummm The coffee's very good and you can buy some of the beans right there. (A very nice touch if you ask me.) My wife had the 'everything' bagel which she said was delicious. They have two stores, one at 118 Main and the other at 1 West Boylston St both in Worcester. I'm looking forward to trying their sandwiches which look really tasty. I took one of their loyalty cards as I plan on visiting often. Maybe I'll see you there, one never knows. read more

This review is for their second location on West Boylston Street: Stopped by here on Saturday morning and they had a steady flow of customers. Super cute and clean inside. They offer fresh baked goods (Apple Cider donut was delicious!!) along with coffee, teas and lattes. They have milk alternative options such as oat milk and breakfast and lunch sandwiches. I really wanted to give 5 stars but couldn't based on the fact I did order oat milk and didn't receive that and had to ask for my donut after receiving my breakfast sandwich. Another woman was waiting quiet some time for a bagel and cream cheese as well. HOWEVER-- what I did receive was very tasty and made with great ingredients. Once I asked for my donut... they were very nice and quickly grabbed it. I just hate bothering them when they are so busy! Overall, I will definitely try this place again and look forward to it. Heard good things about this place, so my expectations were high and sadly they were not met. Came in on a Saturday morning, cute shop and friendly employees for the most part. I ordered avocado toast and a cold brew my friend ordered a pastry. The pastry was very good, the issues lie with the avocado toast I ordered did not specify that it came with hard boiled eggs. I do not enjoys eggs and I can't bear the smell of them when I opened the box I saw the eggs on top and was disappointed. I could no longer eat this so it was a complete waste. The cold brew never came out ,we were waiting for over 12 minutes and they weren't busy at all. I then said something to someone and she acted like I was bothering her instead of helping me, then the women who rang me up apologized and then said I don't even think you were charged for this, basically telling me I didn't even order the coffee when in fact I did and I paid for it. Very strange. Overall it's great if your just getting pastry but as for everything else maybe try somewhere else. read more

Nice little spot w an outdoor area. I ordered an everything bagel w roasted veggie cream cheese, toasted. Bagel was ok, although not toasted well enough and a bit rubbery. The veggie cream cheese was excellent. My biggest quip is that they don't put the cream cheese on the bagel for you. It's the ultimate lazy move, and to boot I was the only customer there, so it wasn't heavy morning rush. That's enough to ensure that I most likely will not return, I can make my own bagel and cream cheese at home without the drive and $3 price tag. They did have an awesome looking drink menu and some other very tasty looking pastries, just skip the bagel and cream cheese. read more

This place has a really good selection of local products accompanied by baked goods. I ordered the Vermont turkey on their focaccia bread and a cider donut for later. The sandwich was really big and ended up saving the other half for lunch the following day. The cider donut was too dense for my liking. The flavor was good but it didn't have a cake-like interior like most cake donuts. I'd return for their sandwiches and to try out some of the other pastries they offer. read more

I live close to Crust(main st worcester location) so have had numerous occasions to purchase from them and always find attentive friendly staff and wonderful treats from their breads, savory rarebits and empanadas, monkey bread, homemade pop tarts, kouign amann..the list is endless and I've never received anything but excellent inventive baked goods. I will agree it is not inexpensive but you really can't purchase a dozen or more of any artisan bakery items in the city for under $50. read more

I've tried the iced matcha latte and iced chai latte on 2 separate occasions, and they were EXTREMELY light-handed with the drinks. Both times it looked like I was drinking a glass of milk (for like $5-6 no less). My friend got a matcha latte as well and hers looked a lot greener. Is there no standard recipe? So I work in the downtown area and thought I would stop in and get a cold brew and a little something to nibble on. Once we walked in the person behind the counter greeted us with a look of distain, we said good morning, she did not respond in kind- a young girl with tats on her forehead, face and body. I don't know her name as it was not prominently displayed anywhere on her person - we placed our order and she gave us our order. The person I was with noticed that the milk that was used in her drink appeared to have curdled, I noticed the same thing with her drink - the same girl behind the counter said, no it's that they use condensed milk, and it just looks like that when it mixes with the coffee.. I would have agreed with that statement EXCEPT we both got cold brew coffees and the condensed milk was also cold so it's not like there were two different temperatures mixing. The woman I was with requested a different drink and instead of the girl offering to give me a credit back because the first drink was more, I requested a larger drink to offset some of the cost...she did so but without communicating with us. (I presumed we further pissed her off) I asked for a croissant as there were many in the basket.. yet she gave me the LONE croissant sitting on a tray..literally by itself which made me wonder why that one. Once we received our drinks and food, we said thank and she said NOTHING. I mean NOT a word. We walked out and we both looked at each other and said WOW! We will not be back. It's actually quite disappointing because there are not many places downtown but after spending $15+ I will continue to go to the places like Starbucks because at the very least they understand that customers are necessary for their business. read more

Heard about the monkey bread so I had to get some they were delicious the girl behind the counter was not a happy to be there. I went there again and the same girl was behind the counter and she could not hear me because the music was blaring and she told me I can't hear you because the music is too loud but she did not lower it she did not smile she did not say hello. This is definitely not the place to order an espresso beverage. It sounded as though the barista was slaughtering a squealing pig when she attempted to froth milk, and the drink was as sour as one might expect when milk is boiled instead of gently heated. Given the other reviews we still had hope for the pastries but our chocolate croissant was not crispy and seemed a bit stale. Maybe just an off day? That doesn't explain the exorbitant prices, though. $8 for a loaf of bread?! Glad we tried it as we do love bakeries but once will be plenty for us. read more

My wife and I stopped in here before heading out on a road trip visiting family, after having a delicious brunch at Armsby Abbey. Why a two star review? The service here is just as poor as the Abbey. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a friendly young woman who was being belittled over something about cleaning by her coworker. I was looking at the jams and jellies etc and asked what chai base they use. Before the nice cashier could answer, her coworker who was sweeping in the back gruffly responded that they didn't have any chai. So rolling with the punches, I didn't even look up and said "Ok well I'll have a latte" to which the coworker in the back again gruffly interrupted the nice young woman and said "All we have is drip coffee". So we took two of those, which were fine, it's hard to screw up drip coffee. They were out of all of their bready baked goods (which is either a really good sign or terrible planning since it was only 11am-ish on a weekend) and they just had some small tartlet looking pastries. I picked one up (by the wrapper) and asked what the price was and the gruff young woman came rushing past the cashier and literally grabbed it out of my hand and said, "If you're not going to buy that don't touch it, we have to throw it away now" to which I replied that I was going to buy it and picked it right back up and smiled at her. She walked away and the rest of the transaction was pleasant. *** Now I can let a disgruntled workers attitude go but what is a real SIN is how can you call yourself a cafe and not have an espresso machine to make espresso based drinks?
