I've been to this place about 7 times. Every time, we have to ask for a waiter. This last time we has to ask 2x and still no waiter. Maybe its because we sit outside. Who knows. All I can say is the service at this place SUCKS. I live a few blocks aways but I won't ever come back. The owner should hire people who know how to provide good service. Including the hostess, and the waiters. 4 years and the service is the same. Terrible. And to top it off, this last visit nobody was seated inside. Just a few people at the bar. Outside, 1 couple. Thats it. After a 15 min wait and 2nd ask for a waiter, another family arrived, they sat inside and were served water within a minute. WTF? Consistently CLUELESS people working at this place. Always a great meal whether it's eating in or picking up. Their food is always fresh and tastes great. They have wine Wednesday which is half off bottles of wine, too. Pizza is okay most of the time. The service is hit or miss. The tall blonde woman that usually works the front is always very nice, but some of the young girls that work there act like they couldn't be bothered whether they're on their phones or talking to friends that have come by to sit and chill. The last time my husband and I went in there it wasn't busy at all but still took a good 5 mins before someone would seat us and then an hour to get our food. Our "waitress" who sat us then never returned (we had to ask her where our food was) was busy talking to a couple guys that weren't ordering food. Previous owner had NY pizza pretty well dialed in by the slice, which was nice to find in SoCal. Recently stopped by for a slice and a glass of Rose. Wine was awesome but the pizza has changed. Gone is a good NY pizza by the slice. It's a personal pizza and covered in cheese. take a bite and all the cheese from the entire slice comes off. this is not real pizza anymore. Pizza was delivered cold! The delivery person left the pizza outside my door without bothering to knock to inform me that it had arrived. The status on Grubhub was that the order was running late. By the time I checked outside, the pizza was cold, and the cheese was no longer melted. I called Crust to report the incident. I thought the spice only had beer and pizza, but I went on a Wednesday night when they have wine per bottle at 1/2 the price and I had really good calamari as an appetizer and a nice chicken dish with a wonderful dessert. Crust is a good name for this pizzeria because the crust on their pizza is perfection! It tastes just like in Italy, a crisp, thin white crust with little black bubbles from the pizza oven. Too bad the topping we had didn't match up to the crust. Angela and I went to an Italian happy hour and ordered the pizza and a No Ca pinot noir (not the house red). The wine was very very good; the pizza was good, really really good crust, but the topping was not. It had mozzarella (I guess there was some; couldn't really find it), pears and pear tomatoes. The problem was that when you put pear tomatoes on a pizza and put it in the oven, the tomatoes make it too watery! There were about 12 of us and we were seated at a long rectangular table so that the ones at the end couldn't talk to the ones at the other end. Would have been better to seat us at some smaller tables. Also the chairs were very uncomfortable, hard, metal chairs. The service gets 5 stars. I find the pizzas to be a over priced even taking into account that they use high-quality ingredients. So, I just don't find myself ordering pizza from here. But there are still a few things I do order on occasion. I really enjoy their roasted artichoke starter. The salad it comes with is a generous individual size and quite good. So, for me, I sometimes order this as my full dinner. I also like their beet and California wedge salads. I will probably keep ordering these in the future. read more

I love pizza. I love avant-garde creations that push flavor profiles and make pizza feel new. That's what I expected when looking over the menu. My grand-father in law wanted to try this place so I didn't do so much research. We ordered for pickup and I was so let down. In short: this place is WAY over-priced for the final product. On an ingredient by ingredient basis they use premium stuff. You could taste the quality of the cheese, the tomatoes, and especially the sausage, but the end product diluted the individual ingredients contributions to the overall pie quality. There is a lack of balance between the ingredients playing together and it turns into a mess. The amount of cheese and the density of the dough overwhelmed everything. It was like they made a dough specifically to carry an entire brick of cheese. Melty cheesy pizza sign me up, but when there is so much cheese it congealed before being eaten it's too much. We got three pies. (1) What was their take on a margarita. (2) the bacon, sausage, jalepeno pie, and (3) the sausage, pepperoni mushroom pie. The margharita was good, but the other two might as well have been the same pizza. Look, if you like this place that's fine. I see some redeeming qualities, but not enough for me. I find it repulsive that they charge as much as they do for these pies. We would have been better off ordering Pizza Hut. read more

This place used to be awesome. Not anymore. I took my family there one last time tonight, and was completely disappointed, again. Service was honestly horrible, it took 15 mins to even be acknowledged of our presence at the table. We ordered our favorite pizza, the Kelly and a salad. 1h20 mins later, still no pizza. Hungry and with starving kids falling asleep at the table, we asked for the bill and for the manager. The manager shows up, she could not have been more worthless or clueless. She apologized for the delay, followed by "it's the best I can do". Really? You have local, loyal customers in your place and let them leave starving after 1h20 with no customer service appreciation whatsoever? "Crust", you used to be a town favorite, I now wish you would just shut down and leave the space for a restaurant that cares about their craft and their community. read more

What a find! I've stopped in with both family and friends and have to say i'm glad they're here. The first stop was a few days after they officially opened. Back then, their menu was just pizza and salads (from what I remember) along with a few appetizers. Since then, they've added pasta dishes that make it a real plus for families. First time through, I ordered a small "Monique" (a mix of cheeses, sausage, tomato and fresh basil. Very tasty! My wife ordered the "Yana". A nice assembly of cheeses, prosciutto, sliced pears, glazed pecans and baby arugula. This time around, I had the "Jennifer" (mix of cheeses, artichoke hearts, tomato, roasted red pepper and red onion on olive oil). My wife ordered the Mediterranean pasta dish. Kids had angel hair pasta with meat balls and marinara sauce. Those meatballs are awesome with a spicy kick. Overall the menu isn't stuft with a gazillion options. It's very simple but with delicious choices. We'll definitely be back again. Aside from having good food, service has always been consistant. read more

We live in Carmel Valley and heard the buzz about Crust all the way down here. So on a recent Saturday evening we made the trip up north for dinner at Crust and frozen custard at Rita's. The Sprouts parking lot was more crowded that we expected but it was still plenty easy to park. We sat right down and ordered up the white bean hummus appetizer to start. We enjoyed it but could have used more triangles, although the cucumber slices were a nice fresh touch. I didn't love the menu itself - by using "people names" for the pizzas, customers need to read every word to get even a sense for what's on each pie. That was an annoyance, albeit a minor one. We had the Jennifer (ricotta, mozzarella, goat cheese, artichoke, roasted red pepper, fresh basil and sweet red onion) and the Monique (mozzarella, ricotta, sausage, fresh tomatoes and fresh basil). The artichoke was the star of the white Jennifer pizza and we loved the heirloom tomatoes on the red Monique. I also liked the generous amounts of cheese on each pie. Much appreciated! For us the service at Crust was inconsistent - our server was great at the beginning but then disappeared when it was time to ask for the check. It was like she didn't want us to leave. It also took way too much time for the dirty table next to us to be cleared. Overall we really liked Crust - it would be a great regular family pizza place for us, if only we lived closer. I felt guilty moving next door for dessert but quite frankly having Rita's in an adjacent space does make us more likely to return. We saw lots of Crust patrons move over to Rita's, so I'm guessing this is a common strategy. read more

Stopped in for a pizza for home for the Super Bowl. The Hostess/Bar Tender/ Waitress, Sara, was charming. Service and food were great for a local "red sauce Italian" restaurant in Carlsbad. Will certainly return to try the other menu items. Hopefully the rest of the staff is as good as Sara. read more

I absolutely love this neighborhood gem. The atmosphere and attentive staff are wonderful along with the food. We've been ordering take-out due to covid. Yes, we miss the dining experience but at least we can savor the delicious flavors of their food. I'm sure they're open for outdoor dining again, but my family doesn't want to take any risks. I am within walking distance of this restaurant and have been ordering from here for the last four years. Although the food has always been a little hit or miss, we do order pizza from here when we have large gatherings. I am so disappointed that I will never order from (or recommend) this place ever again. We had an issue with our original order whereas the kitchen only packed half the order. I drove back to the restaurant to pick up the right order. That was fine, things happen - but once I was ready to eat, I realized that the gluten free pizza and the gluten free pasta dish were NOT gluten free. I would never have known except that my dish looked so much like the regular gluten dishes. The guests in my party compared the dishes and confirmed. I called the restaurant to let them know they have an issue in the kitchen. As someone with celiac, I felt lucky I was able to identify the food on my own where someone else might not be so lucky. The restaurant hung up on me. Three times. I absolutely could not believe it. I was not even upset when I called. I just wanted to give them a heads up. All I can say is wow. Please take care to make sure your customers that have food allergies are taken seriously. Without that trust, you can't build a loyal clientele. read more

I understand the waiters are attending other customers, but the waiters were all at the bar laughing and not getting orders. They didn't even bring us water or asked for our drink order. We have been going to Crust for years and have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. When went there for dinner on 12/9/2023... When we walked in, the smell of sewage was overwhelming... we almost left. We decided to stay and had great food. One of their restrooms was always locked...a plumbing issue? Sometimes, if the janitorial staff of a restaurant puts a mop in a toilet and then proceeds to mop the floor you can get the same smell. We love you... Please fix the bad odor. read more

lunch was good, -- very, very good BUT dinner was even better. the complimentary FOCACCIA and MARINARA was a blessing. we arrived ravenous and really needed something to tide us over until entrees arrived. loved the long, slow-simmered, not too sweet, red sauce. WYATT, my ten-year old, had the MEATBALL SLIDER trio. didn't want to risk losing a finger "sharing"-- he guarded them with all the ferocity a hungry, ten-year old boy can muster. melted mozzarella and pesto on eggy (probably challah) buns. they got devoured in short order. JULIANA, my twelve-year old, had the CHARCUTERIE BOARD -- coppa (or maybe capacolla), a dry salumi, almonds, honeycomb, apricot jam, pear slices, 3 cheeses (guessing a port salut, a creamy blue like SAINT AGUR and a small wedge of PARMESAN) and toasted baguette slices. really fabulous. the wife-unit had one of the evening's specials, a BUTTERNUT SQUASH RAVIOLI. the pasta was tender and the sauce had just a touch of acidity so all the flavors popped. i liked the earthy sweetness of the squash. would have preferred the parmesan to be finely grated (found the texture to be slightly off-putting) and about whole sage leaf garnish (would have preferred a chiffonade) but the dish was truly delicious. the menu says "in crust we trust" and they should. the ELLE pizza (mozzarella, sausage, bacon and jalapeños) was over-the-top amazing. the crust had an absolutely PERFECT crispy, chewy texture. one of the best pizzas i have ever had. WOW !! WOW !! WOW !! for desert we had the chocolate LAVA CAKE (molten chocolate cake, spumoni ice cream topped with whipped cream). CHART HOUSE's is still the industry standard but theirs was pretty good. shout out to DEVON our server. she gets an A++. great job guys. hats off to CHARLIE MEOLA and his crew. really a fabulous dinner. read more

Also loud nasty bartenders/waitresses who confuse your orders or delay putting them in because they are busy talking it up with their friends. I ate here last night for dinner. For a friday night, this place wasnt busy at all. This restaurant seems to be family oriented, as many of the patrons were adults with younger children. I ordered the 10 inch margherita pizza and shared an order of wings with a friend, and some bread with marinara sauce. Here is my verdict of the food: Wings (3/5) these are not your standard spicy buffalo wings. These are a sweet honey glazed version served with cilantro ranch. While the chicken was moist and crispy the way I like it, the sweetness of the chicken did not contrast the dipping sauce it was served with. Pizza (4/5) the margherita pizza here was very good. They used generous amounts of basil on their pizza that didnt overwhelm the taste of the san marzano tomatoes, and the fresh mozzarella made the pizza taste lively as well. Only complaint is that the sauce had a bit too much garlic. The prices of the entrees at this restaurant were quite reasonable, ranging between 10 and 20 dollars. This makes it attractive to the clientele. Lastly, one thing that was different about this place was that some of the waitresses here didnt have a uniform like at other restaurants. One waitress wore what resembled gym clothes, which may feel somewhat unprofessional to some people. I might give this restaurant another try, but to be honest, it was just okay. read more

Still the best pizza around! It's the crust...so perfect! The toppings are also high quality and tasty. Since there is no inside dining, we sat on the small patio, but they have patio heaters. Thought the waitstaff could have been a touch more attentive, but perhaps they were busy w/takeout orders. Regardless, if you want a seriously good pizza, this is the place to go. Always better to eat a hot pizza on the premises, but even takeout is great. They also have a great draft beer selection and good wines. read more

This has become our local go-to spot for high end casual dinning. The ingredients and quality of their food is on par with many local fine dinning restaurants at half the price. They keep a regular rotation of high end craft beers which I especially enjoy. (BP Navigator is a new beer I absolutely can't get enough of). This was our first actual meal here (we came to a pre-opening function a few weeks ago), and it occurred on their second day in business (I believe they opened on the 23rd). I had two kids with me and no wife, but I was confident because the portable DVD player was in effect. I was hoping to be able to down a couple of beers and catch up on my iPhone addiction, but alas the DVD player lost its charge and I had to actually engage with my children over a meal...darn. I was so jealous of the nice couple directly behind me who enjoyed their entire meal without saying a word to each other, but were face down in their smart phones the whole time! I digress, the meal started with a lukewarm tap beer (the glass was cold, but the beer wasn't). The server went through the beers they didn't have, and the list included the one beer i really wanted. I chalk both of these up to new opening issues. I ordered the hummus which came with pesto, bell peppers and cucumbers with pizza crust to dip. There were only 4 pizza crusts, so my kids ate two, and I had to fend them off the others (they didn't have any hummus though). My recommendation would be to double the pizza crust for dipping. I didn't ask for more, but it would have been cool to have them. My 3 year old son had the pasta (rotini) with a giant meatball and it was way too much pasta, but he did polish off the meat. My daughter had the cheese kids pizza and she ate half of it. I had the pizza whose name I cannot recall, but it had goat cheese, peppers, sweet red onions. The onions were not "sweet" but were typical red onions. I like onions, so I was cool, but it was not as advertised. The pizza that I ordered was the same size as my daughter's, and I ate it all no problem. I had to ask for pepper/cheese (this should be compulsory right?). The server missed my empty beer until it was too late to order another. I asked for the check and the damage with tip was $50. I will be back, but I look forward to them working out some of their kinks. The place was very crowded and everyone was smiling ergo the 4* rating. read more

No no no no!!! I dont want to sound mean but omg Crust needs to get it together. Me and boy friend came here desperate to eat something and nothing else was open around the area. I was craving pizza and well well Crust is a pizza place. We went in and it seemed like it was going to be a goof experience....wrong!!! Idk if it was because crust is kind of new or it was late and the waitresses wanted to go home or just the whole vibe. There is no music playing but instead loud yapping and crackling of woman getting drunk and perhaps complaining about there ex husbands. I feel bad for the people that work there and have to deal with snobby people. It Was seriously so loud i could barely talk to my boy friend sitting right across from me. The pizza was ehhh... With all the weird names how hard is it to just call it BBQ chicken pizza. Perhaps they need to be fancy because of there status of being La Costas rich pizza restaurant....
