For my cleaning appointment in January, 2026, I saw a new doctor who indicated I needed a filling replaced - fine. Saw her again in February and the filling replacement turned into me needing a crown. When I went for the temporary crown, I again saw a new doctor. Since then, I have had 3 appointments scheduled for the permanent crown, all of which have been cancelled at the last minute and rescheduled. When I first started going to this practice, there were several doctors. Now there is only one. They provide very poor service, are expensive and their lack of being able to retain hygienists and doctors as well as last minute cancellations has made my decision to never return once I have the permanent crown completed. I have already found a new dental practice for my next cleaning this summer.

When I got to my appointment I received x-rays and was then told I would have to make a follow up appointment to do the actual extraction which wasn't until the next week. The doctor was gracious enough to be willing to stay after hours to do the extraction in the evening but instead I left and found another dentist that was able to do the tooth extraction same day and for less money. Really hoping they don't send me a bill for the x-rays considering the other dentist didn't need x-rays to know that the tooth needed to be pulled and no real services were rendered.

After searching for a dentist in the Mason, OH-Mainville, OH area, I found that this practice has a lot of great dentist. The front desk staff are always very friendly, they explain all of your benefits from your insurance plan, and they always ask if you need detailed receipts for your HSA plan. Also, after initial consultation, they print you a summary of work needing performed and costs of each service before and after insurance has been applied, so you can plan out the dental work that you can afford. I didn't have the most knowledge on each dentist, so I didn't have a preference when I scheduled my first appointment. I was given Dr. Gene Schlank. He is a very skilled dentist that used to teach Dental Medicine at the University of Maryland. I explained my issues and the suggestion from another dentist in the area trying to push gum grafting on me. Dr Schlank explained that it's easy to suggest this procedure if you don't really look into why the gums are receding. Instead of gum grafting, he suggested a bite guard after letting him know that I do grind my teeth, which is a primary cause of gum recession. This was a lot cheaper than having gum grafting. I value his opinions because he's not just trying to push unnecessary procedures just to get money. He explains everything he's doing in my mouth before it happens so I'm not surprised. I highly recommend this place and especially Dr. Schlank!

Unfortunately the office was closed so I called the Mortenson corporate office and told them I was in severe pain. A medical specialist there said they would contact the dentist and get a prescription phoned into the local pharmacy. About an hour and a half later I called back and was told that the crown needed additional grinding. They then told me that the dentist said she would not call in a prescription for me. I asked the medical specialist to please escalate my request for pain relief to a higher authority within Mortenson Family Dental but was told that no one would call in a prescription and that if I wanted pain relief I should go the Emergency room. Suffice to say the dentist in question along with the medical specialist at the Mortenson corporate office came across as very impersonal showing absolutely no concern for the pain I was in even though the pain was a direct result of the dentist's negligence in the proper fitment of the crown. I have since found another dentist outside of Mortenson Family Dental who did the additional grinding on the crown to finish the fitment job. In closing, based on my experience, I would not recommend Mortenson Family Dental or any other corporately run dental group.

When I was younger my dentist was not very gentle and the pain from anesthetic shots and the grinding form numerous fillings were engraved in my brain instilling the afore mentioned fear. This fear continued as an adult until about two months ago when I went in to see Dr. McIntosh for a consult on straightening my smile. You see my pediatric dentist was an apparent idiot as he never recommended me for braces despite my overbite saying it was too small to make a difference. As the years went on this problem caused teeth to grow in differently and crowd etc etc and in the last year my smile started to appear crooked...... Dr. McIntosh is in the process of fixing my smile without making me undergo the two years of braces that the general orthodontist recommended. She too told me that in order to fix my bite perfectly that the braces were the best way to go but since my bite itself doesn't bother me I opted to get them cosmetically fixed and to use a retainer. So far I am so happy with the results!!!! More importantly I want to note that Dr. McIntosh and her staff have re instilled my faith in dentistry. After just two appointments with her I quickly decided to make her my general dentist for the following reasons! 1) Her staff is so friendly, patient, and don't speak to the patients in a demeaning or condescending fashion. Unlike so many other doctor and dentists offices I have experienced I never feel like I will walk out of Dr. McIntosh's only to have the staff whisper about how I was late or how I was loud etc etc etc...... 2) The environment is so friendly!!!!!!!!!!! a)Dr. McIntosh equips her rooms with a television for long procedures and has a list of movies from which patients can pick to watch or they are welcome to bring their own. There is also the option to listen to any radio station you may want to. b) The staff makes sure you are completely comfortable during your visit by offering you such things as: blankets to stay warm while being checked out; coffee and waters while you wait along with the traditional extensive array of magazines; the not so traditional alcove with a video game system for kids to play on while they wait; fresh gourmet cookies paired with cookie sleeves imprinted with her offices information in case you need to grab that cookie as you leave. 3) The technology at her office is up to date allowing the staff to take digital pictures and project them almost instantaneously onto the television screen above the dentist chair so you can see exactly what the doctor sees as she goes over your teeth. 4) Dr. McIntosh herself is personable, caring, and a perfectionist. You can tell that she cares about each of her patients and takes pride in her work. She rather take up more of her time at her expense then make a person leave her office with teeth she is not proud to call her own. She is warm and understanding and goes the extra mile to make sure her patients feel no pain or discomfort and are happy with their results!!!!!!!!! PS...........I love the dentist now:)

Despite that, I recently received two invoices--dated January 2026--for services performed in 2024 and 2025. These were the first and only notices I ever received. The statements show no insurance estimate, no insurance payment, and no prior balance, which strongly suggests the office either never submitted the claims or submitted them incorrectly. Preventive services should have been fully covered, and any failure to bill insurance or notify the patient for nearly two years is a provider issue, not a patient responsibility. When a dental office assures patients that insurance is in network, then sends surprise invoices years later with no explanation, it creates a serious trust and transparency problem. I hope they address the internal billing issues that led to this situation so other families don't experience the same frustration.

To this day, many years later, I still have no cavities. I feel this place is just about grabbing as much money for you as possible and seems to want to do unnecessary dental work. Would not recommend them at all and if you do go and they tell you that you need a bunch of dental work, GET ANOTHER OPINION before you waste your hard earned money.
