If you are looking to add stress to your wedding planning then Crystal is the person for you. I had contacted Crystal back in April 26 for my wedding in September. The first question I asked was if my date, September 10th was available. After scheduling a trial session (it was supposed to take place this Saturday), I get an e-mail today, 46 days away from my wedding date, letting me know that she is no longer available. Here I quote from her e-mail: " I had a client come in for a bridal hair trial yesterday and she loved her hair and makeup so much that she put down a deposit for her wedding date. Unfortunately, it is also on September 10th. When I first talked with her a few months ago, she had not yet set the date, so I did not think it would conflict. " So my question is, if you knew since April you had a wedding for September 10th, why would you book another wedding for the same date on July 24th? If I could give zero stars, I would, but unfortunately Yelp does not allow that. Completely unprofessional, I wouldn't recommend her, that is unless you wan to add unnecessary stress to your wedding planning. read more

I stumbled upon this new salon thanks to LifeBooker. I actually used to see Crystal two years ago when I was frequenting a salon in Los Gatos. At that point she was considered a "junior stylist" Much to my surprise, after only seeing "senior stylists" and paying the corresponding price, I received the Best Blow Out/Style of my life! She gave me what I would call "porno volume" ... my hair literally belonged on the cover of Maxim. I am so excited to learn she has her own Aveda salon now! Crystal is absolutely adorable. She provides really great service and really cares about her clients. One of those stylists that will actually hold a conversation with you during your appointments! I received the Keratin Express Smoothing treatment this weekend, for a special Yelp introductory price. I have thick, coarse hair that was dyed over a year ago and is super frizzy at the ends. I gave her a call to schedule the appointment, but had tons of questions because I'd never had Keratin treatments before. She was very patient and friendly and answered all my questions before scheduling something for that weekend. She also called to confirm my appointment and reminded me that it was cash/check only. I was nearly 30 minutes late to my appointment due to poor navigation and Crystal was an angel about it. A client came in at the end of my appointment but she never made me feel rushed. The actual treatment itself was very quick - because of all the natural ingredients there were no fumes and no odor. She washed my hair a few times, applied the treatment, blow dried and flat-ironed it. Unlike previous stylists, I never felt in danger of being burned with the flat iron, which was really great. I left with pin straight, shiny hair. After shampooing (with sulfate free shampoo as advised), my hair has returned to its natural awkward wave, but in a more relaxed form - it's definitely calmed down some. Blow drying took less time and I didn't have to do any fancy manuvers with my brush. I still had to go over my hair with a flat iron but it took less time and doesn't feel as dry. I'm a little disappointed that my hair is not really that straight but I'm still pleased with the results; it's sort of like intense conditioning that cuts down on styling time. My hair is still frizzy (but less so than before), especially towards the ends but that might be due to the nature of my recent hair cut. To be honest I do not think I will be investing in the full Keratin treatment for ~$200 if I will be receiving the same results. It doesn't seem to be a miracle for me. However, the level of service that Crystal provided makes me sure that I will be keeping her in mind for future services. read more

If you are looking for a top-notch, talented, knowledgeable, and all around great stylist, Crystal is your girl! She has been cutting and coloring my hair for almost two years now, and I have never been so happy with a stylist. I have been to high end, $$$$ stylists around the country, and she is one of the best (and an excellent value too!) I'm typically the type of client that has no clue what to do with my hair, so I need to find someone I can trust. Every time I go to Crystal, she is asks me the right questions to find exactly what it is that I am looking for. She does a great job of blending color (I have had both full and partial blonde highlights), and I can go 6+ months without it looking outgrown. She is also conservative with her cuts, and trims small amounts at a time to make sure it is not cut too short. I have also had Crystal style my hair and makeup for events, and every time I get several compliments. She is good with a natural look, but if you are feeling adventures, ask to see her own blended color eye shadows--they are incredible! LOVE my haircut by Crystal! I came here for a simple cut with long layers, nothing deviating too much from my norm. I have really thick, course hair which is tough to tame. Crystal asked me how much time I spend daily on hair (which I said minimal- just blow dry with a brush) so that she could give me a manageable hair style. I loved how she tried something different with the layers and cut them a bit shorter in the front. Besides being fun, enthusiastic, and super friendly, she also knows how to work with my hair really well and I'm always happy with the way she cuts and styles my hair. A lot of hairstylists in SF and surrounding area are way out of my price range! I contacted a few stylists from San Jose but with travel fees, ended up the same prices as the ones in SF. I consider myself quite lucky for finding Crystal! She is so sweet, her work is amazing, and VERY reasonably-priced. Crystal styled the hair of me, most of my bridesmaids, my mom, and aunt for my wedding. I had two trials with her since I wasn't sure what I really wanted the first time around. I probably acted a bit demanding as we tried at least 5 similar hairstyles, but she was very flexible and professional the whole time. On my wedding day, she was early so got me Starbuck's hot tea. Her assistant was also really nice! We ended up late in getting ready, but it worked out since our cable car transportation broke down (long story). Anyway, I LOVED everyone's hair especially mine!! I'm pretty picky when finding the right person to get my lashes done and Crystal did such an amazing job. She made me feel very comfortable and she is very professional. I told her I wanted a natural look but wasn't sure what was best for me. I got haircut, highlights and deep conditioning with Crystal for the first time and I must say she definitely cares about her clients. She listened to me and gave me suggestions but she also considered everything I said I wanted for my hairstyle. I had an incredible experience with Crystal in Burlingame the other day. She cut and colored my hair exactly the way I wanted. I have very fine blond dry hair and am wearing it longer than usual these days. She did a beautiful blunt layer cut and the lowlights/highlights are the best I've ever had. Unfortunately I can not recommend Crystal. I recently purchased a Living Social Deal for a haircut and color with Crystal. It was a great price and I was trying to save money. Before purchasing the deal I went to meet Crystal, she seemed to be very confident. My hair cut and color turned out to be a 31/2 hour night mare. It was clear that Crystal did not have the experience or knowledge. As Crystal kept trying to correct her mistakes my hair became shorter and shorter. I finally asked her to stop, the cut was getting worse and worse. I have never had my hair so short before. I had to go to another stylist to correct the cut. The stylist exact words were " Wow! Who Cut The Hell Out Of Your Hair" My hair is now extremely short . I started with shoulder length hair and asked for a below the chin bob. DO NOT LET CRYSTAL CUT YOUR HAIR!!! I LOOVE Crystal! I have never gotten highlights in my hair and went to her based on a friend's recommendation. Every other salon I visited said I could not do anything without bleach- (something I did not want to do)- however Crsytal worked with me and gave me a new look, highlights and cut and all without the bleach and I LOVED what she did. Crystal did a wonderful job with my hair and make up for my December wedding. She helped me find a hair style that worked for me and made me feel beautiful and glamorous. She also did a wonderful job with my mother and mother in law, as well as my bridesmaids and even included my flower girl with a very age appropriate look. I liked that Crystal brought out the natural features of everyone and did not make them look fake or over-done. It was really nice spending time with her prior to the wedding, and I really appreciate her calming presence and positive attitude (and I loved that she was intelligent and able to provide humor and conversation while she worked). Crystal is AMAZING!!! HAIR: First of all - my hair is a disaster. It's a curly, frizzy mess and I hate getting it cut because it is so difficult to deal with. But Crystal knew how to handle it right away. She knows what she is doing. She cut it in a way that framed and complimented my face and not only that, but she showed me how to style and take care of it so I could keep it looking great. She explained to me in detail what she was doing as she was cutting, which made me feel very comfortable. She was also very easy going and fun to talk with. If I had any questions she happily answered them and in much detail. It was a great experience - oh and she gives you a scalp/neck massage! I would go back just for that. I felt like I was in a spa! Key points: She knows what she's doing! Clean, respectful, professional. MAKE UP I enjoyed my time with Crystal so much that I asked her to do my hair and make up for my headshots. If you are a performer, you know how stressful these can be! They need to be perfect! And they were. The thing I love about Crystal, is that she listens. I told her what I wanted/needed and she did it. If I wanted to add or take something away, she did it and it looked GREAT. I've worked with make up artists before that just don't care what you want or need. But if you are hiring a person to do your make up, you should be happy with it. And I was VERY pleased with the results! We did three looks (Natural, Dramatic, Sexy). She stayed with me and the photographer the whole time - making sure my hair was in place and touching up make up when needed She was a great cheerleader too! I was very nervous but I felt like she was there with me and making sure they turned out great. Which they did!.The pictures turned out AMAZING. She knew exactly what she was doing and what was needed for these shots to look great. Key Points: She knows what she's doing! I went to Crystal for a wedding trial. She was very sweet and I had read amazing things about her. Unfortunately, my make up was not at all like the styles I had shown her and it looked completely unfinished. You could see brush marks on my lids! My hair was pretty at first but within an hour the style completely fell apart. My fiance and MOH said I looked like a mess :( Needless to say I didn't book her and it was $150 down the drain. read more
