I got there early and they were able to get me started. Use their app to update your info ahead of time (I did it while standing there, just took a few minutes, but could save you time.) I hadn't donated in awhile, so they filled me in on changes (the app, some exercises, etc.) Everything went smoothly. Hang out for snacks afterwards.

I am an emergency physician in Ohio. And last night the Red Cross helped us save a life. We had a…read more40 year old man come in with esophageal bleeding after a liver transplant. We used 48 blood products from the Red Cross including blood, platelets and FFP. The man survived to get to a transplant center and is doing well. We had to go on trauma diversion because we had no blood products we used everything in the Red Cross was able to get us blood products within five hours so we could then help save traumas again. Donating really does save lives. This man can now possibly live a full life.

This most recent visit felt like a complete bait-and-switch. I walked in, went to the computer, and was told I couldn't donate today. The front desk told me I needed to do a 'protein test.' I waited about 20 minutes, and the phlebotomist then told me I would be donating and would be getting paid today, and my hopes were up. But then I was told later that I was only giving blood for the test and I'd have to wait up to 10 days before I can donate--and I didn't get paid today. The staff gave conflicting information, and I left feeling like my time wasn't handled fairly. Communication and conduct were also mishandled. While a new employee was shadowing the phlebotomist, I made a completely PG comment about her culture (Muslim) and that America is the land of opportunity. Another staff member later approached me and claimed I was being inappropriate and made people uncomfortable--but the inconsistency is that a person next to me used profanity and was not called out. The way I was singled out felt unfair and poorly handled. It also isn't the first time this location has turned me away. The previous visit I was turned away essentially for being on time--specifically because I was '1 minute late' even though I arrived at my scheduled time. And on another donation attempt, my left arm was bruised and it's still showing lingering discoloration/yellowing from the earlier issue. Overall, they had unclear policies, conflicting staff messaging, inconsistent handling of behavior, and a negative physical impact on me. I'm tempted to find another plasma donating service as it's clear to me I'm not the only person being wronged by them.

She woke up this morning and said we should go and donate blood....she wanted to see how it all worked, was interested in the process, and it was a wonderful thing to do. We found a place and we went. We signed into the little kios and sat down to wait. After a while a lady comes out...looks and seen that we didn't have an appointment...says "well...im not in charge today anyway." A man walks out and looks at the book and says "one of u can wait until 12:45 (it was 11:30am) and the other can come back at 3:30." They both were rude and acted like they were doing US a favor by taking OUR blood. Angry we left.... I am still confused about this. No wonder there is such a blood shortage for people IN NEED out there. It blew the whole experience for my daughter and I am very disappointed that this all happened this way. Such a wonderful and thoughtful thing to do on a freezing cold day, but apparently we should have just stayed in were it was warm.
