I'm sad to update this review to such a low rating, buuut... I'm just being honest. I guess I had some good experiences before, but in the past couple months, things have been incredibly disappointing here, and each time I've left feeling like I just wasted a ton of time and energy (and money!!).
I just went to see Dr. Carney today. I had a flu-like illness over the weekend and am in the beginning stages of bronchitis. I was not in love with the idea of going to the doctor, but I was really just trying to do the right thing and be healthy in time for Christmas. (Plus, when my doctor-trusting parents badger me about it, I want to be able to say I've gone to the doctor...) I had whooping cough as a child, and now almost every time I get sick, I get terrible bronchitis that lasts for several weeks. I explained all this to Dr. Carney and let her know I was really just trying to nip this in the bud, and when I said I just want to be healthy and enjoy the holidays with my family, her response was "Umm... good luck."
She then explained to me that I definitely did not have the flu over the weekend because I had gotten my flu shot. Because that shot takes care of every single strain of flu? Please. Even if it wasn't the flu, that's fine, but you can't tell me that because I got my flu shot, it's impossible for me to get any strain of the flu. Then, after I explained about the awful, um, "productive" cough I've been having, she made me cough for her on the spot to prove it. When I was like, "Well, I don't have the urge to cough right now..." she made me do it anyway. Obviously, it was not the urgent, strong cough I've been experiencing... because what person in this position can just cough like that on command?? Ridiculous.
What really incensed me was the way she talked down to me the entire appointment. My husband, who went with me, was SHOCKED by how much she belittled me and assumed I was an idiot.
Finally, my biggest beef with her is that not once during this or previous appointments did Dr. Carney ask me about my diet or exercise habits. Not once did she say, "Well, antibiotics can't help you, but you should try to avoid sugar and white flour until you feel better." Not a single mention of what I can do to help myself feel better and heal naturally, just a condescending facial expression and a recitation of how viruses don't respond to antibiotics.
Since this review is for the doctor's office as a whole, I'd like to give 1.5 stars if I could. I do really like the receptionist. And there is plenty of free parking. Other than that... not impressed.
I won't be coming back. read more
