The service is horrible from every angle in this store. The food is close to expiration every time I shop here. I bought meat once and took it out to defrost and by the time it thawed the meat smelled like eggs. Til this day I refuse to buy meat from them cause every time I do its rotten. They don't check their produce regularly. THEY DO NOT TAKE APPLE PAY !! They advertise it and then when you use it they say "we don't take the Apple Card" however I have used my chase and TD debit card through Apple Pay and it still doesn't work !! So they need to take that advertisement down because they DO NOT USE APPLE PAY. Unless your hispanic they don't give a fuck about you either and unwilling to help. When it comes to finding items in the store. It's always "it should be in this aisle" and is never there! I came across this C-Town Supermarket when walking around Bronx's Little Italy and needed something to drink, so I stopped in here and also checked out the rest of the store while I was at it. I was able to find what I needed, though it's a fairly smaller supermarket and has enough selections that I could live with. Can't really comment on the other departments, however, but I don't think I had any of the problems that others are talking about here. I live in the neighborhood and this is my go to store for basic groceries. Pros 1. The prices are fairly reasonable. 2. There sales are up to date and they will honor misprinted ads. 3. They offer delivery service and they deliver in a reasonable time frame. 4. Haven't came across any rude cashiers or workers in the 10 years that I have been shopping here. Cons 1. There fruits and vegetables are not always the best. I will usually go to another store for those items. 2. I do not trust there meats, especially chicken. I have had to return chicken on many occasions. It has smelled old many times. I began to poke holes to smell before leaving the store but they now spray the wrapping with this product that I think masks the smell (it smells mildly like bleach). When I get home and take it out the packaging, the smell of the old meat is sometimes over powering. I decided not to buy meat from them any more. 3. Since the neighborhood is mainly people of Spanish decent, many of the products and brands are geared for them. They have a small selection of food from other ethnicities but not a good variety. read more

The policies of this supermarket are only beneficial to the workers/company. The dates on food need to be constantly checked. They will not honor an exchange if after the day you purchased certain perishable items. I believe they intentionally add days to packaged meats (chicken, beef, pork) expiration dates to sell the product. Dirty. I go to cook it 2 days later, policy is thrown at you. It's still "good" for 3 more "sell by" days. Moral of story: check the dates... Give it a quick sniff... Or just bypass it and go to Modern for perishables... A few blocks down. read more

I've heard tell that C-Town may be cheaper than nearby Modern Food, but I couldn't really tell you myself, because I only patronize C-Town when I have no other choice. Compared to the smaller, recently renovated Modern, C-Town is downright dingy inside, and feels totally outdated, like it hasn't changed since the early nineties. Mainly, though, I hate C-Town because of one bad experience I had there two years ago. I bought a package of chicken wings, taking them straight home and putting them in the fridge. The expiration date was still four or five days off when I opened them up two nights later to make dinner, but the wings gave off the foulest most rancid odor. I was pretty annoyed, but I still had the receipt so I made the long walk back to the store to exchange them. There I was informed that the return policy for meats is same day only, something that I have never seen at any supermarket I've ever been in. I've seen my mother bring back unexpired spoiled meats, where it's been exchanged without a word, so this was a big shock to me. Call me a cynic, but to me, this policy indicates that they know that their meat products are suspect and go bad quickly, and instead of improving their refrigeration system (both in transit and in the store), they've instituted a one day return policy that makes spoiled meat the customer's problem, not theirs. This is blatantly taking advantage of a low income, under educated consumer base, who don't know better than to take such crap from one of the only supermarkets around. Frankly, I think its despicable, and I told them so. I told them they could keep their rancid chicken and that I was going to get a new package from the back of the store. I did just that, walking out with my new chicken wings despite the security guard's objections, voiced entirely in Spanish. A nice bilingual couple backed me up, and he eventually gave up, but I was still seeing red. It was an absolutely enraging experience. If I were you, I'd stay away from C-Town. They don't take care of their customers, and who knows what kind of swill they are selling you! read more

C-Town in my neighborhood just got a facelift and it looks great! Very clean and organized. The deli line takes forever. Also, they didn't have any Thai food here. I was looking for a Pad Thai seasonings/box and they didn't have anything. Hook it up with more international foods C-Town! Other than that - fast check out, small but easy to navigate and clean grocery store. read more

I hate this super market. I just bought half a chicken to make chicken soup, and with the sell by date still two days away, it stunk up my whole fridge. Apparently the return policy is same day only so I'm not going to bother getting my 4.50 back. I can say I will be spending the extra money at Modern from now on instead. read more

C-Town is disgusting. Unfortunately it is the only supermarket in the area. In my three years living here there has never been a time I've been in this C-town and not been disgusted. Besides the filthy conditions and general smell of the store, I have had several personal experiences that have resulted in my reporting the store to health department twice. These experiences range from picking up meat from the meat section only to discovered the meat wasn't actually wrapped, just sitting in the tray, to finding a live cockroach in a roll of toilet paper purchased at the store. This place is repulsive! Rude service, and that awful for mentioned smell. Wish I could contact C-town corporate but guess what? They don't actually have a working phone number. I buy my meat else where, anywhere else in fact. And I only go there when absolutely needed. Will be calling the health department again soon. read more

If I could rate this store a ZERO or a NEGATIVE number I would! It's not somewhere that you would travel to if you don't live right by it. There is not a great selection, and the prices aren't ideal.The people that work at this place are the rudest people i have ever encounter in my life. Anything with an expiration date goes bad within a week. I give this one star for being close to our house and another star for having canned foods that i could eat. other than that, stay away from anything fresh or that is meat, unless it's canned or is in a sausage form. Numerous times I've bought frozen food here that had really bad freezer burn. At the Deli department previously worked two nice young men who were honestly very nice but most importantly professional and prompt Now like everything else in the store the Deli is a Joke! the lines at the deli are beyond ridiculous. I have noticed lately new girls at Deli every week who by the way have no work ethic have no clue what they are doing and are always flirting with customers instead of attending to the outrages lines. There is also a new manager at the deli whom I very briefly encounter whom by the way is useless barely speaks any English and has no knowledge whats so ever about the deli I was recently looking for product that I usually purchase there but that day I couldn't seem to find.. I approached the suppose manager with the issue and he had no clue what I was talking about let alone where it was I literally spend 10 mins looking for the product on my own on till I finally found it. I for one will never shop at this place again the small business markets in the area are so much more pleasant and don't act like you coming into their store is a complete burden to their lives. read more
