I moved from…read moreAustin to Charleston over four weeks ago and utilized U-Haul as my moving company of choice for everything from Mo to the truck to the storage unit. I have not had one single thing go right which cannot be coincidence. I have called there no less than 15 times with the promise of elevating issues. Everything from the original movers arriving too early and the truck wasn't available on time so we burned two hours but they promptly left after the four hour time.. The storage unit when we finally arrived in Charleston was exactly what they said my four bedroom house needed, but they had rented it the day before, so they moved me to a different property in Wamba Creek. My experience at that particular storage unit in Wambach Creek has been nothing. Short of ridiculous. From the front desk to Elijah, the Director of the actual facility, nobody communicates. I have been overcharged for insurance which I have addressed and it has not been fixed. They locked me out of my storage unit because they thought that I had Live animals being kept in there, which was not the case. They just followed me in and out as I was moving items. They are not conveniently open at all, for a business, where people need access, they are open from nine to 3 o'clock on weekdays. I had to take days off of work to accommodate their schedules because they had errors in their access card coding. At the end of the day, one month later, my 26 foot U-Haul truck is still sitting on their property which I do not have access to because they jammed the back even though I had a log on it and that is illegal. I was supposed to return it a month ago but I can't because they could not provide me with adequate storage. Space And then when they did they locked out my access card. The storage space was supposed to be free for the first month but I've been charged numerous times and gotten bills to pay for the next month. U-Haul is the worst logistics company I have ever dealt with and I sit here today as a brand new person in Charleston that has zero access to her clothing her furniture her medication everything I own is in that U-Haul truck or in that storage unit. Do you think anybody ever calls me back? The answer would be no I asked for this to be elevated every single time and not once has anyone called me. Do not use U-Haul for anything, you might find a nice person here or there, but at the end of the day, my move to South Carolina has been an absolute disaster and cost me $10,000 and I still had to pay them which I paid upfront so they got their money and now have all of my items from my home my clothingmedication that was absolutely dire that I take every day, but no one cares over there. Absolute worst customer experience ever and I am still battling them.

But very unhappy with their business practices. I received an " inital rental discount" rate and the contract reads it can be changed at any tine with 30 days notice given. Needless to say after the initial 4 months they increased my rental amount by 69%. I called and the manager said he would "see what he could do" and return my call - welp its been over a week and havent heard back. IMO they lure you in with a low rate then jack it up assuming you will just roll over and pay it rather than move your stuff. Do not recomend and will be moving to another facility. Even if I have to pay more then my "initial rental discount" rate at another facility, at least I won't be giving my money to Extra Space Storage.

They also offered to let me switch if after move in I needed a different size. Furthermore, the storage units are very well air conditioned, there are multiple bathrooms in the facility and the bathrooms even have changing tables. Mike was amazing and patient with me. He has helped me on multiple occasions. He also insisted on ensuring I knew how to use all the codes for easy access. This is one of the rare occasions where I wish I could give a sixth star.
