Absolutely amazing experience. I came here recently for a friend's birthday dinner and everything was great from start to finish. The staff was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive without ever feeling overbearing. Everyone we interacted with made sure we were taken care of, and the service really made the night feel special. The food was also amazing. Everything we ordered came out fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. It was one of those meals where everyone at the table kept trying each other's dishes because everything looked so good. The only reason I am giving this place 3 stars is for the excellent server we had and the best fries I have had in a long while. Our waitress was charming, upbeat, super friendly and offered excellent service. The chip style fries that came with my wife's fish and chips order were exceptional! Some of the best we've ever tasted a rare way to make fries. My fries with my $24 burger were also very good, Belgian thin fries in a classy metal bucket. Great. But....lets talk about the failures here that lose at least two stars. My burger wasn't a very large piece of meat and the bun was stale! Literally dry and tasteless. I was so disappointed with my burger that I had to mention it to the waitress. (We got no offer for any complimentary items). I wasn't looking for a 'freebee', but it would have been appropriate to offer something? My wife's fish were not tasty to her and she was very disappointed, especially for $31. We were highly disappointed with Cultivar and will not be returning again. The Spinniker is a better high end restaurant in Sausalito. Our bill ended up being $160 with some wine, tip, tax. This is a ridiculous amount considering the lack of quality of their food. But again, our server was terrific and the fries were exceptional, hence 3 stars. read more

Was excited to try this place out but am so disappointed with the experience we had here. First, If you're not aware of the area in Sausalito, it can get pretty busy where parking can be sort of a nightmare once the public parking lot fills up and most of the time street parking is also scarce. But my rating isn't about the parking situation at all but rather a heads up for visitors. When it came to service, this place seemed promising with the way everyone was attentive in helping us with our party that included two wheelchairs. They helped get us to our table and removed chairs that we no longer needed and left us to our own devices. While we were not a fully seated party (we were missing just one person), we were ignored by our server for about 10 minutes before he thought to ask us what we wanted to drink. Even then, he was still distracted by a table that was seated in a booth next to ours. Even when asking for simple things like a spoon or straws from what we assumed were busboys or runners, we were met with attitude and almost a disdain for an easy request. Our waiter was also very unusual where he was finally getting our orders when he completely turned away from our table in the middle of us verbally ordering to greet another table that just sat down and started a conversation with them before saying he'd be right back to them and letting us continue our orders. To say our service experience here was less than bizarre is an understatement. The one real positive interaction we had was with the chef who came out to give us the appropriate silverware and discard bowl for the cioppino. When it came to the food, it was also disappointing. I should have taken the hint by looking at the demographic and lack of ethnic diversity of the restaurants patrons that the food would be a reflection of that. The charcuterie was disappointing but maybe that's because we also hold the standard of such an appetizer to that you'd find at Belotti in Rockridge. Too many pickled veggies that the cheese and limited salami choices were overshadowed. When it came to entrees, it was even more disappointing. Things were bland and not great. The only thing that looked good was the chicken dish which only one person in our party got. They have a sucky burger which is even more disappointing since that should be one of the most reliable menu staples of any given restaurant. We tried to forget our dinner by drowning our sorrows in dessert and ordered the butterscotch pudding and the strawberry shortcake. Only one was enjoyed which was the pudding by two in our party. I'm verbally groaning thinking about this shortcake while writing this review because it was even more so disappointing than our dinner. For the cake part, they served the driest hockey puck of a biscuit. It was infuriating especially since it was the one dessert I was counting on feeding my grandparents who have texture and temperature issues with the other one we had ordered. Overall, this place will not be in my future recommendations or places we will be returning to. The location is great but that's all I can say that's positive about this. read more

I felt maybe I was a bit critical in my last review. .. I thought perhaps it was just a bad day for them so I went back to try their evening menu. The second experience was a disaster. 1. DRINKS: They served me their "special" old fashioned, which was terrible...way too sweet... so I sent it back... I later found out that they used brandy instead of a bourbon or whiskey... 2. FOOD: We ordered their margarita pizza "extra crispy " as instructed by a friend who said the tend to come undercooked.. it came to us way undercooked... crust chewey and doughey.... We sent it back and the second one was better. ...actually pretty good. I do want to add this: i still may return someday because things can change. Management at good restaurants read reviews, acknowledge problems and often fix them. For me, Cultivar lands around 3.5 to 4 stars for brunch right now, but I'm open to being wooed on a future visit. We had a tasty, spendy, weekend brunch experience here, the day before Mother's Day. The biggest draws were the buzz of the crowds, pretty marina views in the distance, and country club-like outdoor cafe seating, alongside outdoor couches, perfect for lounging and enjoying rose and pizza on a sunny day. It has an Edward Hopper meets Scandi feel, and a very attractive bar area. Service was professional but slow. Dishes were solid & made with quality ingredients. Our meal included a well executed omelette with wild mushrooms ($27), smoked trout and spinach eggs Benedict ($30) with a good hollandaise, and a coffee service complete with raw sugar cubes that was brewed strong enough to make me wish I could afford a weekly waterfront brunch. My main hesitation was pricing is roughly 1.5 times other comparable brunch spots. The waterfront setting, higher rent & newly designed interiors may justify that for many: they are already pulling larger crowds on sunny Sausalito days. read more

Was finally able to come by last weekend and take in the beautiful ambiance of this gorgeous place. It was a busy Sunday evening and everyone was out and about. We luckily got the last seats at the bar. While we didn't order anything to eat this time, I did get a beautiful cocktail at the suggestion of the bartender. I believe it was the Vees Knees, beautiful and light...perfect for an early Sunday evening. There was ample opportunity to people watch at the bar...all ages, all dress codes, all positive and fun. Everyone was smiling and having their own conversations and open to meeting new people, how much better can it get? Even if just for appetizers, you can trust the staff for great recommendations on the strip or fantastic main courses served in house! The duck poutine is so good and quite filling. Also, the fried shrimp with green beans is a surprisingly tasty pairing- Especially if you get one of the pieces with the shrimp fried ON to the green bean. Also, when you order the oysters, you get a cute and delicious little side of this shrimp salsa situation with freshly fried tortilla strips. This place was really good and super nice inside--great atmosphere overall. The gnocchi was delicious, especially the one stuffed with cheese--that was definitely the best thing I had. The pizza was good the day we got it, but honestly even better the next day. The wagyu was just okay, nothing too special, but the drinks were really good. One thing to note is there's no dedicated parking for the restaurant, so you'll have to either pay for street parking or park closer to the ferry and walk over. When we went, the weather was perfect, which made the whole experience even better. I'd definitely go back, mainly for the gnocchi. read more

They did comp our pizza that got lost in their system when our server clocked out for the night and left without telling us or apparently anyone else. I'm a long-time fan of the Chestnut Street Cultivar location (love the back patio and cozy fireplace ambiance, not to mention the grilled cheese and tomato soup!) and was excited for an excuse to cross the bridge and check out the Sausalito location. A completely different vibe, and yet the familiar (and expected!) quality -- and new surprises. Table favorites included the branzino and the "North Bay" pizza with prosciutto, fig jam, goat cheese AND a duck egg. Sparkling rosé pairs perfectly with everything in life. Great service. Attentive without interrupting time with friends. A beautiful evening out and looking forward to a return visit to try out brunch. read more

Terrible service meets mediocre food. In fairness, good wine. I'm a local, had been waiting in excitement for this location to open and up until this experience had been rooting for their success. Unfortunately the experience I had was so awful, that I now am just as eagerly awaiting their almost certain demise- you can't treat customers like this and survive when there are much stronger options in the area (shout out to Poggio). Sat at the bar and received terrible service. The bartender was more interested in ignoring us than helping us, giving attitude to us when we asked for menus after sitting there for 10 minutes without being acknowledged. Busy? No. There seemed to be more employees than customers. This was just a sign of more to come, with terrible service with an unfounded attitude thereafter. At the end of our meal, the owner happened to be there and we shared this feedback with him, again still wanting to help them improve and succeed. The owners attitude was completely apathetic and it became clear to me that the place is likely doomed as a result. There are too many options with better food and service for me to give them another try. I'm now looking forward to whatever will come next to occupy their space, as I'd be surprised If they last very long here. The tacos and ceviche were bland and uninspired to boot. Building on the success of its SF/Marina location, Cultivar recently added a second location in Sausalito, and it is a fantastic addition to the Southern Marin dining scene. We had an exceptional dinner ranging from ricotta stuffed squash blossoms as a starter to a gnocchi that was surprisingly light and delicious. Service was attentive and knowledgable, and seating offers both inside and covered outside options. Also, a nice set of custom cocktail options, some of which were creative mocktails. The only downside is that it is located a few hundred yards from where the tourist ferry docks, so the area can get crowded with pedestrians happily not paying attention. Overall, Cultivar is a winner and will be distinctive in the Sausalito dining scene because it has the quality and service that will attract a loyal following of locals vs Sausalito's default tourist-geared model of mediocrity. read more

Really enjoyed our evening at Cultivar Sausalito a couple weeks ago! Our server (think his name was Carlos) was super warm and welcoming and there was great live music being played from a balcony above. Set the tone for a great evening. My cocktail (Paper Plane) was perfectly made and my two friends enjoyed their wines. We started with the house rolls which were insanely good! We had to keep ourselves from ordering more and ruining our appetite. We ordered items from the "Farmer's Market" menu which were definitely highlights - fresh and good veggies. Hope they continue offering that! I didn't try it but one of my friend's had the game hen which she loved. If I had to give one suggestion, I'd say replace the kale salad with another kind of salad. Absolutely Horrible Experience -- Unacceptable Service My friend and I came to Cultivar in Sausalito for dinner because the restaurant is beautiful and the location is wonderful. Unfortunately, the experience was absolutely terrible and completely ruined our evening. From the very beginning, the service was extremely uncomfortable and unprofessional. Our server, Caesar, stood over our table waiting for us to order even after we politely told him that we needed a few minutes. We asked him twice to please give us some time, but he continued standing there and making us feel rushed. We eventually ordered drinks and dinner. My friend ordered pasta and I ordered ahi tuna. The way Caesar brought the food to the table was shocking -- he practically threw the plates down. There was no "please," no "enjoy," no basic courtesy or hospitality. We asked for cheese, and he literally placed it on the table in the same abrupt and careless manner. But what happened next was absolutely unbelievable. My friend and I went to the restroom. We were gone for no more than 10 minutes. When we came back, we were shocked to find two completely different men sitting at our table. I immediately said, "Excuse me, this is our table. Where is my food? Where is my wine? What is going on?" Caesar came over and said, "Ma'am, calm down. We thought you left." I was completely stunned. How could you possibly assume that we left when there was still a Celine bag sitting at our table, along with our belongings? And then I realized -- my bag was gone. The manager came over, and thankfully I eventually found my bag near the entrance of the restaurant. But what made the situation even more disturbing was that my bag had been moved from our table and placed near the entrance, and our food and drinks had been cleared away, while the table was given to other guests. My bag contained my personal belongings, documents, money, house keys, and a very expensive Celine bag. Who gives a restaurant employee permission to take a customer's personal belongings from their table and leave them by the entrance simply because the guests went to the restroom for a few minutes? If we had actually "left," as Caesar claimed, would we have intentionally abandoned a Celine bag containing our valuables, documents, money, and house keys at the table? Of course not. This was not just bad service. It was an extremely inappropriate and disturbing situation. A restaurant employee should NEVER move a guest's personal belongings without asking, especially valuable belongings containing important documents and keys. It is incredibly disappointing because Cultivar is a beautiful new restaurant in a great location, and it has so much potential. Unfortunately, the terrible service, the rude and careless behavior of our server, and especially the incident with my personal belongings completely ruined what was supposed to be a nice evening with my friend. I have never experienced anything like this at a restaurant. Absolutely unacceptable. I would not return and cannot recommend this place based on our experience. read more

Went for Mother's Day brunch and it was fantastic. So happy to see this place open in downtown Sausalito. It's just what Sausalito needed there. I hope to see more of a restaurant revival, and less empty art galleries! They did a really nice job with the space, it looks great inside and out. It feels bigger than it is. It is comfortable. The food was delicious, service was excellent, and the prices are reasonable. Really enjoyed the cinnamon vanilla french toast. We will be back to try more on the menu! read more
