Was looking for a place to eat after hiking, and the photos and menu sounded delicious. The restaurant was packed but we managed to get a table right away. Our server was chill. The energy in the restaurant is lively and loud. There were people watching the game at the bar and many parties chatting it up around you. It's a great atmosphere and perfect for a night out. Started off with chips and salsa. The chips were on the thicker side, which I think made the chips crispier if you're into that. It came with two salsas (salsa verde and red salsa). The salsa verde had a fresh, bright flavor with a nice tang. Ironically, the red salsa was a lot milder. It had a slightly sweet, bold flavor but still tasted a bit watery. I ordered the fish tacos, but found they were a miss for me. The accompanying sauces didn't add much to the flavor profile. The toppings and sauce were watery, leaving the overall taste bland. On the other hand, the lamb birria was a hit, but I think I would have preferred a traditional beef birria instead. Had a strong gamey flavor I couldn't ignore. The food did not live up to their presentation. I did enjoy the atmosphere and service, but the food fell flat for me. If I could describe this experience, it would be disappointing. read more

It's funny how many Marin restaurants can be just average and stay in business for years. Maybe it's a talented chef, maybe it's the location. In Copita's case, I think it's the location, because the food has been underwhelming every time I've visited. The setting is fantastic, and the service is consistently friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, the Mexican food just isn't memorable. The ahi tacos were fine but lacked flavor. The asparagus salad was fresh and delicious, but the Brussels sprouts were overly charred and drenched in vinegar, leaving them with a burnt smell that overpowered the dish. I also expected a more seasonal approach, so seeing pomegranate on a summer menu made me wonder about that commitment. The chips weren't anything special either. They weren't thick-cut or particularly flavorful, and I found myself wondering if they're even made in-house. I'll probably return because it's such a great place to sit and enjoy the atmosphere, but if I'm going strictly for the food, there are plenty of Mexican restaurants I'd choose first. We had a lovely experience at the bar. The bartender Paul was absolutely fantastic and provided exceptional service. Paul was extremely knowledgeable about food ingredients and made the meal very special while still making sure he had time for the rest of the full bar. The place itself is bigger than it looks from the outside but the front doors open up to provide some outdoor seating as well. Great to keep airflow and the place feeling alive without being too cold right on the water. We had a lovely experience and I cannot wait to come back and enjoy even more. We came here for lunch and the service was swift and food soooo delicious! I ordered some tacos and tortilla soup which was way more filling than I expected. It was so flavorful and one of the best tacos I've ever had outside of Mexico of course. They gave a free appetizer of some cucumbers which was nice, and their water came in a tequila bottle which was so cool! The bathroom was very tiny and I had a hard time figuring out the sink. Honestly, the best part of going to this restaurant is the friendly service and the wonderful ambiance of Sausalito. It's worth it to go and chill with a margarita. Wasn't too impressed with the Quesabirria (after reading others' rave reviews), which I thought would be served with a tasty consome, but seemed to be served with two salsas, instead, and wasn't that flavorful. I had the same opinion of my wife's fish tacos (cod). The best thing was the ceviche appetizer. Watermelon salad was fine. Margarita was fine. TLDR: Come here for the vibes and views, not the bites. I stumbled upon this place when spending a day in Sausalito. The cute decor and views overlooking the harbor drew me in. I was immediately seated and my order was taken. I appreciated that they had an array of zero-proof drinks, as I wasn't in the mood to drink this particular day. I decided to go with the "Kickin' Back" for my meal. While it was tasty, it was very ginger beer forward (I had expected it to have more of a fruity, pinapple taste). The portion was also small as it was filled with a large portion of ice. For my appetizer, I went with the "Coconut Campechano" ceviche. I had never had ceviche that was infused with coconut milk and I can safely say that I loved every bite. This was very filling and the seafood was very fresh. I definitely recommend this dish. For my main, I went with the Baja Style Cod tacos. The fish, once again, was fresh and wonderfully battered. The taco itself with the toppings, however, did not wow me and honestly, was a bit dry. I ended up just eating the fish out of the taco and leaving the rest. Overall, it was good for a day out in Sausalito but I wouldn't say the food taste was mind-blowing. read more

I knew this place would be good when I saw the fire rotisserie. We tried the 24 hour carnitas and the half rotisserie chicken. It came with freshly made tortillas and we ordered a guacamole. Everything was delicious! Next time I would get a margarita instead of a beer. Make sure you have reservations it was full at 6. He got delicious drinks ready for the whole restaurant and would still take the time to talk to us about our food orders with perfect recommendations. I recently went to Copita Tequileria y Comida with my partner. Sadly, this experience was not as pleasant as my first visit a few years ago. Our visit was on a Sunday afternoon in Feb 2026 around 3:30pm. We were happy to be seated right away. The server was attentive at first but after we placed our food orders, he never checked on us. The restaurant was less than half-full throughout our visit. Food/Beverages The tortilla soup was okay, not as memorable (less avocado and less chicken this time) as my first visit - just a solid okay. The queso starter (perfect for children or gooey, melted-cheese lovers) was also a nice dish. We had the red Sangria and the seasonal pomegranate margarita - both great drinks. The tequila and mezcal choices seemed very good but nobody was interested in asking if we wanted a second drink. Interestingly, we asked our server to let us keep our menus b/c we would be ordering more food after our starters, but we finished the tortilla soup and queso fundido and chips without anyone checking on us. Eventually I was so disappointed with the lack of service, I asked another server passing our table for the check. We believe our server changed positions from server to bartender but there was no introduction or explanation given to us - we were just abandoned. The location is fantastic but I was quite bummed because I had such a positive experience a few years back. I would not be surprised that high traffic during peak seasons keeps the business afloat but I would rather give business to an establishment that is interested in returning customers, no matter if they are locals or tourists. The couple of times I've been here its been a great experience. The energy and vibe was fun, always engaging and meeting new people. What further augments the atmosphere is the music in the background is like modern Latin music. Service from both the bar and wait staff has been prompt and friendly and added to the experience. I'm a huge tacos fan and they have a good assortment of choices, but each time I end up choosing the Shrimp Enchilada's. It has white gulf shrimp with salsa macha & poblano peppers topped off with caramelized onion & roasted tomato & queso. A total recommended dish! I'm also a tortilla soup fan and the bowl here at Copita's is a very solid dish and encourage others to try. The BUNUELOS which is a Mexican doughnut with fudge and sugar dust is a dessert option to finish off your meal.
