I completely understand this isn't the hotel's fault, but felt the front desk handled it poorly. I arrived at 2 PM after calling to ensure I could have an early check-in. They let me know the system had gone down so they couldn't check anyone in and wouldn't be able to start manual check-in until 4 PM. I got my name added to the list for when they began manual check-in. However, when I asked to check on the status, they said I wasn't on the list. I saw my name and number on the list, but they said it looked like my last name was spelled wrong so they needed to add me to the end of the list. Overall, this was an extremely disappointing experience.

Well I had an interesting experience at check-in this week at the Courtyard By Marriott Culver City…read more- where the hotel staff shined bright. My flight was very late so I arrived just before midnight... and the power was out at the hotel due to an emergency Southern California Edison repair nearby, which the hotel made clear was outside of their control. Regardless, aside from some lanterns at the front door, the hotel was completely dark. My Uber driver laughed and wished me luck. Then an employee guide with a flashlight appeared out of the darkness, she asked my name and in a millisecond she handed me my pre-prepared room key. I was to be on the 6th floor but she assured me the elevators were working, presumably powered by their backup generator but I'm not sure. She offered to walk me to my room but I demurred, insisting I would find my own way. Right after that, the elevator door opened and off I went... down rather than up - where I met another employee who entered the cab at the lower lobby level. When exiting back at "1", this employee gave me her own light which was a great help. I finally popped upstairs and found my room from there. Then inside my room on the desk, with the lamp they gave me, I found a lovely note saying I was the guest of the day along with free waters, nuts, chocolate and gummies. The note said they hoped my stay would be memorable. Uhhhhhh yeah. They sure did check that box! The next morning in the lobby I found a sign with my name on it as 1 of 3 guests of the day. My selection was almost certainly random but in the moment it made my day. Or rather, my night. I was floored by how kind and thoughtful the staff were at this hotel during a very odd circumstance. I'm not sure exactly when the power had gone off but they clearly had sufficient notice to get everything so organized. The power ultimately came back on at 2:04 am, bringing with it all the lights in the room, which woke me up and roused me to turn everything off. Still, in the literal darkest hour this hotel team shined. The service was amazing. Well done, Courtyard By Marriott Culver City! And don't worry, future guests - I'm told what I went through isn't a regular thing. Let's hope!

They didn't reserve us a room so all they had were rooms on the freeway side. If we wanted a quiet room, we'd have to get two queens. So we took this room. Second, we get to the king room. I get all my stuff out to shower and discover the toilet doesn't flush. So they move us to a two queen room. Third, we get to the two queen room and the thermostat doesn't work. Completely blank interface on the wall, no battery inside and no way to turn down the blasting AC. By now it's 11pm and we're exhausted and just want to sleep. I go to wash my face and the water trickles out of the sink so I get to wash my face with cold water. Super fun. What isn't broken in this hotel? Well after my husband gave an earful to the manager the next morning, they comped the room. Appreciate that, but also never staying here again.

The next day Dani who is the director of rooms sat with me and rather than just hearing a complaint engaged in active listening. As I described my frustration I could see that she was literally putting herself into my place. Our discusssion centered around solutions ranging from partnering with local late night delivery restaurants, expanding the late night menu and talking to the on-site restaurants. As I get older I think of businesses the way people think of doctors. They are essentially in a practice of sorts and some value customer feedback and some don't. Dani expressed a high level of EQ, which impressed me, professional aptitude and from what I've seen her staff loves and respects her deeply. The hotel staff is truly special as I felt like I was checking into a boutique hotel rather than a chain. Hyatt has that about it and The Shay exemplifies how to make you feel like your stay is important. Rebecca, one of the Guest Service Hosts had me smiling from the time I arrived till the day I left with her delightful persona and caring demeanor. Carmela and Luther were also cheerful, warm and just the sweetest people. There are two restaurants at the hotel and Zaytinya is its Mediterranean draw. Simply one of the best dinners Ive ever experienced as a Pescatarian. Our server Leon was incredibly attentive and warm.

The check -in price was smooth and they shared with our group that you can get 10 min or less than 2 mile ride share (i forgot the exact details) to surrounding area. This nice perk comes in handy because not too far from the hotel is a very trendy city vibe with restaurants, trader joes and EREWHON! Our room was upgraded to the pent house and i feel the design of the penthouse was better than the regular rooms. So i will give that tip to hotel design to treat all rooms fair ! I would definitely come back here due to ease of location to a local nice tourist vibe in culver city and to rest of downtown LA and proximity to the public train system if that's your vibe.

Traveling from East to West, I assumed it would always be warm on the California coast, but unfortunately, I was wrong--I blame TV for that! However, staying at the Mayumi hotel made up for it. It was comfortable, relaxing, and secure, which is exactly why I chose it. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by an atrium filled with burning fire pits, mellow music, and swinging chairs. They even have a kitchen where you can cook your own food, not to mention a happy hour on-site with a free drink every evening. This spot made me feel incredibly relaxed, which was just what I needed to write music and finish an amazing book. The staff is inviting and caters to every need. They also offer bicycles that you can rent for free to enjoy the California scenery. I've stayed here numerous times because of the location, the amazing staff, and the overall vibe.
