Love the exterior decor. The gentleman running the front desk was very kind and let me not just check-in two hours early, but even let me pick which room I wanted. While the rooms are not amazing, and do not come with A/C, it did the job I needed it to. Be close to the beach and give me a place to hold my stuff. The rooms are certainly outdated and in some serious need of an upgrade inside them. My shower had a leak, some parts of the walls in the bathroom had pretty obvious patchwork. Cons: No air conditioning. No room service. Front desk guys till a Covid nut job. No amenities in the room just soap and mini fridge. No microwave. Decent-ish motel for the price. However, there are some flaws, big enough to make this my last visit. Beds are stiff and noisy. The shower took several minutes to warm up. I thought there was no hot water at first. There is a heater, but no air conditioner. There is a back window that we can open to let in some cool outside air. However, there is no screen on the window. And the walls are crazy thin. I can hear the guy next door snoring his head off as if he was in bed with me. If you plan on having "relations" with your significant other here, be prepared for the entire motel to hear you. It's too bad too, because there is a lot of charm here. The outside, small and simple, is heavily decorated with plants, flags, surfing paraphernalia, lounge chairs, and lots of fun blue colors everywhere. The outside charm covers up a disappointing interior that, with a few improvements, could be a really nice little motel. Edit: Need to rename this place the Car Alarm Motel. We kept up by cars driving past all night, people talking right outside the room and as soon as the sun came up there was no way to keep the room dark. The rooms are very old the for the price. Im going to be as kind and honest as I can. This was a very sketchy and scarily unsecure motel. I literally had to prop a chair under the doorknob (Pictures attached)which opened to the parking lot and busy street right behind a gas station. It was a very cute roadside motel with a bit of charm and I have to say althoe I was shocked by the window service check in - no lobby, no lounge no nothing -you dont even walk in - its like a drive through window!! The man inside the window was super pleasant and friendly. But .. The bad vibe began there- it felt like a place people go for a few hours to get high. And the people hanging around in the parking lot looked really rough. The door knob of my room was really wobbly when i used the old fashioned key to open it and there was NO security lock! Im a single female who flew in for a weekend workshop nearby and I just needed an affordable place to stay for one night. I wanted to feel safe and I didnt. The room was bare floors and dingy. There was no lamp only a bare bulb from the ceiling. I went to take a shower and was disgusted by the mold and mildew on the shower curtain. Decided to get in bed and the pillow case had two food marks on it that we werent stains they were fresh- just had not been laundered; meaning the sheets and the pillow cases probably were same from the person before me. By then the man was gone from the drivethrough window so i went back and decided to sleep in the other bed when I noticed the window was open! I took a quick look around to make sure no one else was in there then closed and locked it. I had a decent nights sleep only because Im brave and trained in martial arts but i did not feel secure through the whole experience. I would NEVER stay here again and if I had kids with me Id run! They have the nerve to charge $170 per night They really need to put some care and cleanliness into the rooms here and it wouldnt be so bad- Im adventurous- I just dont want to be mugged either. read more

Stayed over the weekend with a group of friends. I was initially drawn to this motel because of the price, location, and options. They also have free parking and wifi. The room I booked had three beds, which was perfect for my group of four. I looked at the pictures which were nice and I saw the mixed reviews, but I thought I would push those bad reviews aside and give it a chance. The exterior of this motel is lovely, but it conceals an ugly inside. The building is run down and dirty. There is a lot of noticeable patchwork. The bedding smelled old and musty. The towels were small and scratchy. The room was dirty: looked like someone smashed a couple of bugs on the ceiling. Parking was horrible. It's a tight fit all around. Customer service wasn't the best. An old gentleman checked us in. However, he helped a couple check in just before us, and as I was walking up to the window to greet him, he closed the window and turned his back to me for some minutes. I understand if he was trying to finish the previous transaction or whatnot, but he didn't even acknowledge my presence. This motel just left a bad taste in my mouth and even though I paid for two nights, after the first night, I couldn't imagine staying there any longer and checked out early. read more

I was skeptical to stay here due to the reviews but I had a entire different experience. Stayed here for 3 nights and couldn't be more pleased. It's a very minimalist place. You have a bed, shower, toilet, fridge, and tv. Only thing that would have been nice but was missing would be a microwave. The entire place was tile which was nice. It was very clean!! Housekeeping staff and check in staff were all very friendly and helpful. I'd definitely stay here again. Room, 5/10 I did find a long black hair in my room and there was a flickering light outside my window, but the staff over there was quick to fix it and make my second night better. Pet friendly 10/10 , only 40$ for my pet to stay! So over all, I would give this place a 6/10 only reason I'm deducting points is because of the room. But I would return if need be. read more

Ok, this place is a trip. It room is definitely minimalistic, but clean. Tile floor, low-end paint job, and low-quality bed. But, it's clean and very funky. I imagine this is how a beach motel would look in Jamacia. Parking great. But located near a busy intersection and a gas station. For the $$, an additional $40 for a Marriott is probably worth it. But if $40 is a lot for you, go for it. Best for dudes on travel, not so workable for families or couples. Just my opinion. Staff is excellent. Very nice and friendly man checked me in. Rooms are a bit dated, but that's also the charm of the Palm Motel. We enjoyed our stay here, but if you expect modern rooms with all the modern conveniences, then you should probably look elsewhere. I was visiting Santa Monica to see some friends over Christmas. I usually stay with them but this time they had relatives in so i chose a budget accommodation because i m between jobs. I was a bit worried with some reviews i saw about linoleum floors etc but i didn't have much choice! Well i m happy to say that i was pleasantly surprised. I mean it s a simple motel but my room was clean, with nice tiled floors throughout ( i hate carpets!). It looked well kept and clean ( i m a bit ocd when it comes to clean). The style of the motel is unusual for California, it reminds me the white houses on the greek islands... Some of the guests were from Norway visiting, we had some great conversations and made some new friends. Overall I had a great time in Santa Monica and i would definitely use Palm Motel again if necessary! read more

I stayed there for last night and I had an overall very good experience. The staff was very friendly from start and very customer oriented. Check in was fast. The Price was very reasonable for what I got: The room was clean, new Flat Screen TV; Big Bed; Nice furniture; spacious room and the floor had nice tiles and it has free WIFI., which is a must for me. I have stayed there a few times in the past and I must say the Palm Motel has a character of its own. The White/Blue Bungalows are Greek style like, with lots of flowers and Palm Trees outside, which made me feel like at home. In the morning they serve free Coffee and Cookies. Clean and simple, no extra pillows or furniture. It is close to all of the Santa Monica Big Blue Bus Lines, most of the stop at the intersection of Pico and 14th which is 40 feet away. The 17 th Street station for the Santa Monica Metro (subway) Expo line is a less than two mile walk, or bus 41 or 42 will take you right there to it, or it is a cheap cab ride. Get a TAP card, (which is good on the bus as well) and go anywhere in the Los Angeles area with the hassle of traffic or parking. The Santa Monica College, one block away, has two swimming pools that are open to the public at a nominal fee. The SM college has a large hub of the Breeze Bike Share bicycles available. Perfect place to visit car free. read more

This Motel looks pretty cute and appealing from the outside. Everything is kept nice and almost clean. The only thing to be criticised are the pigeons. The owner always feeds them so they get more and more. They poop everywhere and are pretty noisy. But besides that, the outside is very nice. The rooms are not even a bit as nice as the pretty appealing outside. First, the bathroom. The shower is worst. The windows are moldy, as well as the ceiling and the walls of the shower. The bathtub had black dots of dirt and everything seems like it's just cleaned by the water of the last person showering. There was even a cockroach behind the toilet. While trying to catch it we realized even more how dirty the whole bathroom was. Coming to the two rooms, it gets a little better, even though there was another cockroach. The beds were pretty ok but extremely squeeky. The floor was clean. The ceilings, the door and a shelf were just painted over, so the whole room was like one mass. But that's just fine with the prize you pay for it. The second room was just a bit bigger than the bed in it. You could only get into the bed from the bottom part of it. In general I'd say that it's a nice opportunity to stay in Santa Monica having a pretty good prize compared to other hotels/motels. But you also don't get too much for your money and it's not the cleanest place at all. I enjoyed Santa Monica but not the motel. So we switched the motel after two nights, paying a little more but having a nice and clean, even bigger room! read more

The people here are wonderful. We asked for help in our room because the TV wasn't working, we left for lunch but as soon as we got back we were given a new room with a working TV. Never been the type to take the time to write reviews, but the things my girlfriend and I experienced at this place were unbelievable. Both of us completely aware of the price comparison to surrounding hotels, motels etc. All of this aside, first thing..the keys to the rooms are standard lock tumbler with no "do not disturb" placards supplied. Not that big of a deal, just didn't leave valuables in the room. Second thing..tons of pigeons, all in the walls of the parking over hangs next to/between the rooms squawking all night long. We wake up on the first morning there to see someone throwing bird feed! Third thing..used tooth brush in the bathroom cabinet. At this point we just decided to chalk it up as a bad place and continue our trip. Then later that night I go to use the freezer and find a half eaten rotting ice cream tub! Fourth thing, which made me decided to write this. I get home, go to get something from the bag I packed and had inside the room the entire time, all freshly washed clothes when I packed the bag so I know it didn't come from where I stay.. a BLACK WIDOW comes out of the bag with me. I would definitely spend the extra money going elsewhere after my experience. Tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, but one thing after another just got old really fast. read more

I dont recommend this hotel to anyone, unless your on a really really strict budget and got no where else to go, i read reviews and even though i saw alot of negative comments i decided to give this hotel a try, so i got there an hr earlier than check in was greeted by im guessing the motel manager with a rude attitude letting me know i cant be there until one not even parked inside the complex so i had to drive around for an hr with all my guest we were 6 ppl ,as im going into the parking lot there was 2 rats that had been runned over and looked like theyve been there for acouple days, really gross. so as we are going into the rooms the cleaning ladys were there and left the floor all wet not to mention the bathroom floor looked like they drop water and didnt mop it up, so then we left and came back we all wanted to shower and there was no hot water , we got hot water for literally 5 min and after only cold water. the whole night we could here rats through the walls and the parking was horrible because there was no parking for us there we had to park on the streets, overall we got disgusted that we relised they dont change the sheets for new guest they just make the beds know because us and another couple checked out early and they just made the beds and mop the floor thats really gross just dont go here period , you will be better off sleeping in your car than here. never do reviews but this time i had to was so dissapointed. read more
