Room from the entrance. I already messed up the bed on my own.

Decent-ish motel for the price. However, there are some flaws, big enough to make this my last visit. Beds are stiff and noisy. The shower took several minutes to warm up. I thought there was no hot water at first. There is a heater, but no air conditioner. There is a back window that we can open to let in some cool outside air. However, there is no screen on the window. And the walls are crazy thin. I can hear the guy next door snoring his head off as if he was in bed with me. If you plan on having "relations" with your significant other here, be prepared for the entire motel to hear you. It's too bad too, because there is a lot of charm here. The outside, small and simple, is heavily decorated with plants, flags, surfing paraphernalia, lounge chairs, and lots of fun blue colors everywhere. The outside charm covers up a disappointing interior that, with a few improvements, could be a really nice little motel. Edit: Need to rename this place the Car Alarm Motel. Two car alarms went off in the middle of the night for a good 10 minutes. Can hear them clear as day through these walls.

reasonably priced, good conditions, walking distance to everywhere (activities / things to do), just wished they served coffee or had a breakfast bar.

Im going to be as kind and honest as I can. This was a very sketchy and scarily unsecure motel. I literally had to prop a chair under the doorknob (Pictures attached)which opened to the parking lot and busy street right behind a gas station. It was a very cute roadside motel with a bit of charm and I have to say althoe I was shocked by the window service check in - no lobby, no lounge no nothing -you dont even walk in - its like a drive through window!! The man inside the window was super pleasant and friendly. But .. The bad vibe began there- it felt like a place people go for a few hours to get high. And the people hanging around in the parking lot looked really rough. The door knob of my room was really wobbly when i used the old fashioned key to open it and there was NO security lock! Im a single female who flew in for a weekend workshop nearby and I just needed an affordable place to stay for one night. I wanted to feel safe and I didnt. The room was bare floors and dingy. There was no lamp only a bare bulb from the ceiling. I went to take a shower and was disgusted by the mold and mildew on the shower curtain. Decided to get in bed and the pillow case had two food marks on it that we werent stains they were fresh- just had not been laundered; meaning the sheets and the pillow cases probably were same from the person before me. By then the man was gone from the drivethrough window so i went back and decided to sleep in the other bed when I noticed the window was open! I took a quick look around to make sure no one else was in there then closed and locked it. I had a decent nights sleep only because Im brave and trained in martial arts but i did not feel secure through the whole experience. I would NEVER stay here again and if I had kids with me Id run! They have the nerve to charge $170 per night They really need to put some care and cleanliness into the rooms here and it wouldnt be so bad- Im adventurous- I just dont want to be mugged either.

The room is clean and sunny. The furniture is a bed and a plastic chair.

The tub is the highlight. One comment would be that when we checked in with Anthony, who was so sweet to our toddler, also kept telling us we were getting upgraded to a very nice room. We got all excited. It was a normal room. The "very nice upgrade" just meant that we were on floor 5. I barely call that an upgrade but ok. - we asked for a crib, and we go a nice crib with a cute little baby soap kit from noodle and boo- very nice touch. And baby robes for the kids- my toddler loved it. My toddler was on a rollaway bed and they were super accommodating about it- great experience on that front. - balconies are tiny and I never saw anyone out when I sat out - pool staff was super nice. It was a chilly weekend and the pool could have been warmer (I couldn't get in, but I really don't like cold water). - the beach chairs are also very nice and we were surprised to find them available - they were extremely pleasant about our friends visiting us every day! - the lobby waiter during the day was almost inexistant. We had to go to the bar to ask for drinks. The woman at night was great. Now for the food...: - coast has a great breakfast, the lemon ricotta pancakes are excellent (though stupid expensive for pancakes) - pico is a good spot for shrimp cocktail and calamari. Hasn't seen shrimps that big in a long time. - overall the food was good everywhere but way overpriced.... The kids menu are ridiculous... hard to justify spending $28 on kids pancakes. That being said, the portions were the same as adult portions... maybe make the portions smaller, and price more accessible? Overall we had a great stay, and while on the expensive side, we agreed we would come back. Nicely done!

This happened on 7/28/2024. I walked home and within a few hours, I began projectile vomiting, among other things. I definitely know it was the breakfast steak, which I usually never get. I thought it would pass in a few days, no big deal. It did not, and it turned into Sepsis and Pancolitis within a week. I was bleeding internally and by the next Sunday, I called the paramedics to my home because I could not stand up. I almost lost my life. I spent almost 40 days in the hospital over the next 4 months - it's now May 2026 and I still need one surgery that my insurance does not cover. I had every complication under the sun. I lost my home, my new office that I just signed the lease for with an ocean view, my vehicle, my good credit, but most importantly, my good health. I had never been admitted to the hospital before in my life. I am a Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, so I lived a very healthy lifestyle, working out frequently, clean diet. I contacted ETC Hotel group, Edward, who owns the Coast Restaurant in Shutters along with Casa Del Mar next door. They had no response for me. I am forced to get a lawyer now. I was supposed to join LAXPD that year. I already finished testing. This has, clearly, been put on hold. Edward was the one who did not get back to me. I emailed corporate and his personal email. Update: June 9, 2026. Hello Elica Y. I am highly offended by your response. Please, no response is better than a lie. There was no comprehensive review. Your insurance company, United, requested information from my lawyers which has not been sent out yet. In fact, according to my bank statements, I dined at your restaurant, Coast, the evening before AND the morning of this incident. Chef Vitorrio would always bring out food for me as we were very friendly and I was a local. Do better. Say nothing.

I've been to a lot of hotels with this style. Water pressure was probably a 6/10. Turning the knob for the initial morning shower sucks cause it's cold and you get hit with the cold water before lol. I needed a place that could comfortably accommodate my dad, my dog, and me while allowing me to shuttle back and forth to the hospital easily. The Ambrose ended up being just about a two-minute drive from the medical center, which made an enormous difference. When my mom had surgery there a few years ago, I stayed closer to the ocean. Even though it was only about a mile and a half away, the traffic made it take 15 minutes each way to get to the hospital. This time, being so close made everything so much easier during a stressful few days when I was going back and forth constantly. The property itself was clean, quiet, and very comfortable. It was also incredibly convenient to have Tartine right across the street for coffee, breakfast, and quick refreshments. There are also plenty of nearby shops, restaurants, grocery stores, and even specialty markets like Erewhon within minutes. Most importantly, the hotel was very accommodating for my dog Grace, which was essential for our stay. All around, it was a wonderful experience, and I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it--especially for anyone who needs to be close to UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center.

The housekeeping staff was fantastic too. The gentleman who was responsible for our room always asked if we needed anything and if he could provide any assistance in making our stay even better. We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite. The great thing about the suite setup is that the living room with a pull out couch is separated by a door to the bedroom; you could watch TV in one room and not bother the people in the other room. The TVs in each room were oversized and there was a decent sized mini fridge (Target and Trader Joes are just down the street - hello wine and beer!) The walls were thick, as was the main door and hotel noise and street noise was minimal. They have a pool on the 3rd floor that doubles as the covered drop off/entrance area and it was very nice. The breakfast buffet was solid (include made to order eggs), but it was too expensive (approx. $33 per person-tip included.) The best part about our stay were the pillows. Down pillows! The most comfortable pillows I have ever slept on! The beds were solid too. What else? You're a couple of blocks from the Santa Monica Pier and Beach. You're within an 8 minute walk to McDonald's for breakfast (cheaper than the hotel buffet!) and your about a 10 minute walk to the 3rd St Promenade. Our daughter absolutely loved her first trip to the beach and this Hilton property and its staff had a lot to do with that! *Tip 1* Head to Trader Joes to stock up on booze for your room fridge. *Tip 2* They don't have a microwave on property to reheat leftovers or snacks. I asked the bartender to leave the bottles on ice at the counter with some glasses so I could pour for my guests myself. He refused, insisting that he needed to pour the drinks. He then deliberately poured larger servings than I wanted, clearly trying to make us finish the bottles faster so we would buy more. When I asked him to pour less champagne, he laughed and said, "Oh, you want to maximize the bottle," which felt disrespectful and inappropriate--especially on my wedding day, and while everyone was already spending money on drinks. My brother-in-law paid for a couple of bottles of champagne, closed the check, signed it, and left. About an hour later, the same bartender came to me and asked me to pay for those bottles, claiming the check had never been closed and suggesting I ask my brother-in-law for the money. At that point, I was extremely upset because I personally saw my brother-in-law close and sign the check. After speaking with the manager, the truth came out: the bartender had mistakenly closed a different check using my brother-in-law's card. When he realized his error, instead of admitting it, he tried to cover it up and make me pay. This caused unnecessary stress and wasted time on what should have been one of the happiest days of my life. In addition, we had called in advance to ask if we could bring our own cake and were clearly told yes, it would not be a problem. However, when the cake arrived, we were suddenly told that outside food was not allowed. This contradiction added even more frustration for me and my guests. Because of this experience, neither I nor my guests will ever return to this place, no matter how nice the location is, unless that bartender is no longer working there. His behavior was unprofessional and disrespectful, and he should be focused on pleasing customers--not creating conflict. The manager was polite and cordial, but he should have addressed his employee's mistake directly instead of involving me during my wedding celebration.
