Note to self: going to Culvers drive thru during peek lunch time on a Saturday is a horrible idea. We had to wait at least 15 minutes for our food to be brought out, but it was fresh (nobody wants cheese curds that have been sitting around forever) and delicious. I usually go to this place for ice cream but today was bad. All I ordered were two regular sized concrete mixers and one had chocolate cake in it through the drive thru and they gave me a #28 sign to put out my window. 15 mins goes by and all the cars are passing me so I finally went inside and asked why I was waiting a long time for just ice cream. They said we don't have a number 28 and I said well I was given it and already paid. They asked what I got and one of the girls go "what's a regular size" I said idk it's your menu. It says regular concrete mixer on the menu and then the girl wasn't sure if they had chocolate cake mixer either. She finally found it and spilled it all over the counter and picked up the pieces that were on the counter with her bare hands and put it into my ice cream. Family came in for ice creme. Asked for raspberry sundae and berry cobbler. Both had no actual fruit. Just had syrup. Went back and asked for raspberry. They said they had to defrost. This used to be my favorite Culvers restaurant but not anymore. The manager running the store at 5 PM on Thursday May 9th was horribly rude and unprofessional. They were out of iced tea and I asked at the counter for them to fill my cup. This manager said they didn't have any made and it would take 25 minutes to make some. The side look she gave me indicated I should not ask her again. Later my daughter asked her for ranch dressing for our cheese curds. She was going to charge us 35 cents for ranch. Later, my daughter tried to ask her if the iced tea was ready yet and she completely ignored us and walked right on by. My burger was missing lettuce and tomato but she said it was my fault for not ordering it in the first place. I watched 3 other ladies take their burgers up to the counter for similar reasons. I heard this manager call someone b*tch and talk loudly about other employees. We could hear everything she said in the dining room. FYI she was the manager with no front teeth. Culver's is one of those magically rare places that exists somewhere in between fast food and an actual diner-style restaurant. The premises is meticulously maintained by the amazingly courteous staff. For an out-of-towner in Ankeny on business, the staff is full of recommendations for your Culver's experience. They also play fantastic pop music from the 50's onward with special attention on the music of the 80's. You couldn't and wouldn't dare to compare this to a McDonald's or Burger King. This is a fine dining quality burger at a fast food price and convenience. Their food is unbelievably fresh, and the beef is never frozen. The patties are good sized and cooked to perfection and the lettuce, tomato, pickles and onions are fresh, crisp and delicious. You have a range of options regarding condiments and unlike the profiteering mega-burger joints, they are complimentary. Culver's also offers Chicken Sandwiches and Tenders as well as a Reuben Melt and Pot Roast Sandwich. Their shakes, Malts and Concretes menu run the full gamut. If it weren't 2° outside, I would be leaving with a milkshake fo sho. Lastly, their beverage section is ample. For goodness' sake, they have DIET ROOT BEER. Amazing. Another final thought: the staff is HAPPY. This is not something I see everywhere I stop. They truly seem to enjoy their jobs and coworkers and, especially, their customers. I think it's all a matter of expectations. it's a Culver's it kind of fast food burger joint with fresh burgers and they work hard it preparing your order how you like it after you order it ...not in advance. I've had their cod fish sandwich before and their classic butter burger and their fries. I've enjoyed both of those sandwiches hot fresh and prepared how I like it with no problem.... the fries are really good very hot very fresh. As for drinks I've go back and forth between their root beer which I enjoy very much and usually they serve with no ice which is how I prefer it, if that's how you like it I would just make sure you order it that way. of course I enjoy their milkshakes usually I don't get anything exciting just a strawberry and or chocolate. Because their custard based they have a much richer flavor I think than ice milk type shakes have at other places. I think they may allow people to go inside now but I did the drive-thru was very quick and staff were dressed with Masks had gloves on and seemed to have their covid-19 act together. read more

I have been going to this Culver's for years now and they have had the best service every time. Sure, they aren't perfect, no one is. The last time I had an incident was in 2019 when my burger was cold/warm instead of hot. They immediately fixed it and offered a refund and free items, which I declined because I know they didn't mean to do that. The staff is amazing and they basically, every time, make and get the food out to customers perfectly and fast. Most of the time it's very busy, so I enjoy the staff's hard work. The service has been terrible the last couple months. I know with covid staffing problems everyone has been hurting but not to the extreme extent as what is happening at this Culver's. No other restaurant compares. Our last two visits included receiving incomplete orders at the drive through. I thought the last time was a fluke. The order wasn't right on the screen. I corrected it and she said it would be fixed. I pulled up to the window and the order still wasn't correct. I went over the whole order and corrected it again. She repeated it correctly. They swiped my card a second time after some 10 minutes of trying to figure out how to edit an order. I left with our food and found we were missing items and had to return. The car in front of us was missing items also. It's painfully clear that the staff don't know what they are doing or don't care. Today it appears I also was double charged on my card. The presentation of my deluxe was bad. I've never seen it look so mushed and unappetizing. The cheese curds appear to have been dumped loosely into the bottom of the bag. There was liquid cheese sauce on the outside of several items in the bag that made a mess on the seat of my car. The food was barely warm. I spoke with the manager that didn't seem surprised or concerned about the issue or offer much of an apology. I was told I need to come back with a paper statement showing the double charge of $24. It's not an awesome policy. What a headache. Nothing was offered for my hassle. Can't say I'll be thinking about visiting Culver's anytime in the near future. read more

The cheddar burger was not very good, the condiments on the burger weren't correct, and I couldn't hear the guy at the cash register. I kept having to lean forward and asking him to repeat himself. But the good is wonderful, pumpkin pie shakes are delicious and so are the amazing butter burgers. I will be going back because it's one if my favorite burger places. As usual the service was excellent and I didn't have to wait long for the food. However, I found out why the food was out to our table so quickly! The burger wasn't cooked all the way. It was eatable but when that is all you get (no bun either) then you want it to be cooked right. I have to say that this is very unusual for this location. The friendliest staff I have ever encountered at a fast food chain. I was in there, outnumbered by my two small children and trying to keep them from braking things and making a huge mess. My daughter ended up spilling milk all over. They said no problem and gave me a new milk even though I didn't ask. Wife and I went to this Culver's in Ankeny, IA for lunch. While in line to give our order, the manager or whatever he is was hollering and screaming at the people behind the counter. This was not good for us to see happen and did not look very professional on his part if he is the manager. We seen one couple sitting close by gather the food and left the store.
