    Nugs with Ranch

Its as local as a cow chip throwing contest at the state fair and as satisfying as the sweet release of built up anal pressure when her finally drop her off back at her house 5 hours later. It's as Des Moines as it comes and its built for you and everything your Iowa corn fed body, stock or aftermarket, wants. The carvings are real and you, just like me, will succumb to the weakness that just the though of it instills into your brain. It may not be as exciting as hot tub bong rips with Kim Reynolds and a couple of the local, surgically enhanced professional girls, catering to your every need but its damn delicious. Sometimes local is what is needed and who says that local isn't up to the same standards as better known fare. I've had them all and by all, I mean all that are "said" to be the epitome of burgers. In and Out, Shake Shack, Whataburger, Five Guys and while they each are pretty good, I'd put our very own B-bops ahead of each of them. You can trust me on this because of my very refined palette. Anthony Bourdains favorite guilty pleasure of burgerdom was In and Out and that's only because he never tried B-bops. Is it the best burger in Iowa? Of course not but it is the best fast food burger in Iowa and every other state I've ever eaten a fast food burger in. It's not sexy food and the whole 50's vibe I find nauseating but hey, that's what the 2 drive thru's are for. I'm sure some of you don't mind the whole American Graffiti thing at all and that's cool. I don't judge, except when I'm paid to, like when I judged that "who has the hottest grandma" contest in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Talk about smoke on the water. There was fire alright, it just wasn't in the sky. You know its going to be good when the brown bag you are handed has grease spots on it. They used to use white bags with their logo on it. I appreciate, I prefer the brown bags. It just seems less corporate, more real. So what makes B-bops so good. Freshness, beginning with the bun. I have never had a bun that was anything other than soft and fluffy. Granted, the bun is just the vehicle to hold and transport all that goodness to your longing pie hole...or is it. The bun can make or break an otherwise outstanding burger, just like a bad crust can destroy a good pizza. B-bops buns are soft, fluffy, lightly toasted vessels that hold within them and deliciously juicy beef patty, perfectly charbroiled, covered in melted cheese and your choice of ketchup, mustard, mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle. This burger stands on its own with none of those just as well as it stands with all of them. My current incarnation is a single cheese with no veggies except lettuce. Next week it will probably be something completely different. And guess what it doesn't matter to them because they will prepare it however you wish. If you get fries, add some dipping sauce like ranch or cheese. I normally go ranch. Occasionally, if the mood strikes like it did this evening, I'll add a 6 piece nuggets because they too are damn delicious and I'd bet that they are made with actual chicken. B-bops is to the Des Moines fast food burger scene what 23 carat gold leaf is to our capital. It just has to be.

The #8 burger, with some French fries!

I've always have heard that B-Bop's food was really good, so I finally got around to trying the Altoona one back in December 2020 & it was really good! https://youtu.be/XH2XWQ9zf8Q

A good classic old school burgers and fries, the double drive through is kinda neat. Price isn't too bad either if I recall correctly.

Fun place to eat. Food is always hot and fresh. In addition, the drive-up has great service, too.

By far the worst Bbop's location in the Des Moines Area 3 of 4 orders wrong. Cold food.

Bartender was attentive and prompt. The fried cheese pickle egg rolls were delicious! Sweet potato fries were as good as any I've had. Water and ice tea as expected. Unfortunately, the mushroom Swiss burger didn't live up to my expectations for a place with "burger" in the name. Mushrooms and cheese were good. The burger patties were overdone and not much flavor. It's still a good enough place that I will be back to give them another shot.

We have been there before with friends for drinks and enjoyed the restaurant and good service so decided to check out their burgers. We were in around 5:15 on a Saturday night and immediately seated in a large booth. Our server was friendly and attentive and efficient (checked in briefly 3 times and let us say if we needed anything) all throughout the meal. The burger menu isn't super extensive but satisfying to all palettes- a classic/simple/just the basics, to specialty (see picture). I did sample the means for other offerings and there were many diverse offerings. Apps and dessert tempting but all I was craving was a good burger. I wasn't sure about Mac and cheese on my burger but it was a nice addition. I took some off the burger and enjoyed as an extra side/ it was creamy and mildly flavor so as to add more texture than actual flavor to the burgers. I should mention I had not eaten all day as normally I could never eat two burgers, however they were more thin than thick and tasted perfect on what tasted almost like a steamed (and soft) bun. I enjoyed the signature pickles on the side and added a little signature bacon jam to the burger which was a nice flair of flavor. My husband's burger was the perfect mix of cheese and mushrooms and flavor. Nothing special about the Tots or fries except a generous amount of both and their presentation in a mini fry basket. We waited about 10-15 minutes for our food but between water and drinks served it was a quick wait, especially for a Saturday night. This is a pleasant restaurant whether eating in a quiet booth or for watching bets while eating. Lots of options for couples or larger groups. There isn't much parking close to the restaurant but we found spaces at the hotel right next to it. Worth the drive. Craving satisfied.

When I DID want something from Wendy's - I would drive into Des Moines to the Wendy's on Euclid. (quite a drive from Altoona JUST for 'fast food") Tonight - the temps dropped to the teens - I decided I wanted a bowl of chili. WENDYS CHILI! I drove around the building twice to see if the rude "manager" was working - didn't see one guy - all female employees and thought to myself, "well, tonight must be safe" - I ordered TWO large Chilis (one to put in the fridge for tomorrow) - pulled up to the window to find a nice lady with a pleasant smile filling my order - WHAT A CHANGE FROM TWO YEARS AGO! I asked if she was a manager - she said she was, I told her quickly how I had not been back in 2 years because of the former manager - she said, "HE was one of the first we fired..." THAT put a HUGE smile on my face! I will be returning to THIS Wendy's more often!

Baconator combo only ketchup & mayo with a vanilla Diet Coke and a #9, just the #9 - 4 chicken strips, not to be confused with the #9 combo option as shown on the menu. There are cameras in the restaurant. Employee threatening to punch me in the face because he refused to give me the correct drink. I wasn't even being an a$$hole yet. Like, they're busy, I get it. I also know it takes all of 30 seconds to switch out the syrup. I asked him at least 5 times. I'm not leaving without what I ordered. The syrup IS out. I'm not drinking soda water that I did not order. You can see it, it looks like iced tea. Literally this guy takes my money and refused to correct the error. He wouldn't even take the incorrect beverage back. I dropped it in the parking lot, I did pick it up. He was all dramatic, putting his hands up like I was going to attack him or something, it was the best acting job I've ever witnessed in real life. It's all on the video footage as well. He tried to tell the manager that I threw it. I absolutely did not. To say it was insane is putting it mildly. The manager went to the lobby to fulfill my drink order and did absolutely nothing to deescalate this vile employee, likely because he's intimidated by his employee. Still not what I ordered, but I just settled. Medium Diet Coke is also NOT what I ordered. It was the dark brown we all know Coke, Diet Coke, vanilla Diet Coke looks like. He refused to even give me a receipt that I asked for. After he threatened to punch me in the face and was screaming at me, flipping me off, I left. HUGE learning curve, just because the machine says it's not out of syrup doesn't mean the machine is correct. This was a joke. "The machine would tell me if it's out of syrup." Clearly your machine is broken. Imagine that. Depending on a machine instead of visuals, taste and brainpower. I just wanted the large vanilla Diet Coke that I paid for. Real simple. I will NEVER go back to Wendy's. Not any of them. I didn't even eat my food. This place cannot be trusted. Even worse, when I was telling my daughter what had transpired, she described the guy to me! He's known to be like this to customers. Yes, he should 100% lose his job. He's in the wrong line of business, or they should move this lunatic to the BOH.
