After a long day of prom shopping in Crystal Lake, my mom, my sisters, and I stopped at Culver's hoping for an easy, comforting dinner. We ordered four kids' meals, all with different sauces--ranch, ketchup, mayonnaise, and honey mustard. Somehow... we didn't get a single sauce we asked for. Not one. Not even ranch. Normally Culver's is reliable, which is why this was extra disappointing. Kids' meals kind of depend on sauces, and eating chicken tenders completely dry after a long, exhausting day was not the vibe we were going for. By the time we realized, we were already home and too tired to go back. Food itself was fine, but missing something this basic really took away from the experience. I hope this was just an off night, but double-checking orders--especially something as simple as sauces--would go a long way. read more

I cannot believe the lack of customer service and courtesy at this location. My mother and I enjoyed a lovely fish dinner there and had a lot of leftovers and when asked for something to put it in to go, we were given a very small box in which all our food wouldn't fit and the items would leak through. I went back up to the counter to complain and was ignored as the manager Alex was training someone new so she just ignored me. When I finally scope up and told her those containers were worthless and wanted something better, she swore at me. Finally an older gentleman helped me. Even 2 teenage boys at the counter told her she had an attitude. Shortly thereafter she huddled with all her employees like to tell them not to say anything about what just happened. I tried calling corporate 8x with no avail. This company is a joke. When I fo talk to someone I will make sure Alex gets reprimanded. That's no way to treat a paying guest! read more

I've eaten a lot of Butter Burgers over the years, at many different Culver's locations, and the Single "Deluxe" I ordered recently from this location was by far the worst ever. Biting into the sandwich, there was virtually NO BEEF patty ! At best, it was like 1/8 inch thick ! The center of the sandwich, it looked more like a spread, it was so thin. The sandwich tasted like lettuce, tomato and onion which is pretty much all it was. There WAS a sad, pathetic, paper thin excuse for a hamburger patty there but might as well have been nothing. What is there not to like about Culver's? The past few times I've been there, it's clear that they're taking a page out of Chick-Fil-A's customer service model... I've heard more than a few "It's-my-pleasure" responses when saying thank you. The butter burgers are delicious! The produce is fresh and crispy every time. The french fries are thick in size and golden crisp, not unlike Wendy's, but without the skin. Plus, Culver's has frozen custard and they rotate the selection monthly. Lastly, I'm on their mailing list, so they send me and the family free birthday custard codes for all our birthdays! A lot of other restaurants only collect one birthday for rewards. This location is also a newly remodeled location, so it's clean and shiny and the drive-thru experience is greatly improved. read more

I've noticed at Culver's the food is always consistent no matter where you go. I love the Cod Dinner. The Cheese Curds are awesome. The Burgers are always good, although it appears they have shrunken over time just like the meat in a Big Mac and a Whopper. I'm not surprised about this. The problem I have with Culver's is the help. It's always high school kids that you know don't want to be there. Now, there are some really great kids that take the job serious, but sometimes you run into some kids that just don't care. Most of the time when you experience the bad service, there is no adult management around to keep any of the workers in line. Culver's isn't cheap. You should be able to stop in for a nice meal and walk out satisfied without being agitated by bad service. read more

I like Culver's when I have a craving for a burger and fries. Way better than most fast food chains with a drive-thru. However, today marked the second time in a row I've been very disappointed with my order. My order was simple, a cheeseburger basket, no tomato, no mayo. I got home to find a single burger on a bun. No toppings, no cheese. How does that happen? Train your staff appropriately and ensure the orders are correct. If not, you'll be losing a lot of customers. read more

They don't offer happy hour!! All Culvers are 2-4pm or 9-10pm...the cashier said they don't offer it at all (Strike one) They made my order and messed it up (Strike two) the guy who fixed it was very quick to fix it and was very nice which is the only reason I gave 2 stars. Then my custard had an extreme amount of cookie dough in it (the flavor of the day)... every bite had 1-2 pieces and about a quarter of the remaining cup just had had straight cookie dough in it...way too much! I wanted custard with my cookie dough. Yuck. So my experience was bad then my custard made it worse. I definitely won't go back to this location again. read more

Pretty standard Culver's. Stopped in here after a long day at Three Oaks Recreation area. The one at Three Oaks was so busy and we were trying to avoid additional crowd. Hence we stopped here instead. The food was pretty standard Culver's food (it was good). But the tables were a mess. Spilled food and ketchup and stuff. We had to check out a few tables to find a clean one. We had quick, fairly friendly service. No complaints. read more

Good fast food. When your tired of the other burger chains, this is where you go. Above average food and great table service. The burgers aren't served in a box or wrapper, but on a tray brought to you by a server. The freshness can be noticed right away. They have a couple of new items on the menu, which are prime rib sandwiches and they look great. For this visit, we just stopped for ice cream, which I should say is frozen custard. Vastly superior to ice cream in my opinion. Smooth, rich and creamy, it goes down great but the taste lingers on your tongue longer than regular ice cream. The turtle sundaes are out of this world. They consist of pecans and caramel sauce and their custard. I had the hot fudge sundae and the wife had the turtle. Nice, clean location worth coming back too. read more

Quality fast food! You have to wait longer than you would at the golden arches or burger king, but they hand make everything and nothing is frozen. The chicken tenders with the honey mustard sauce are fricken amazing! I also recommend the prime rib sandwich and any of their shakes. They have a different custard flavor of the day and have a new sandwich and soup special that rotates. You can check all these on their website before visiting. The cheese curds are tasty, if that is your thing...it's not mine. The fish fry is pretty tasty, too. Obviously, the butter burger is what they're known for, but I rarely order one. Coaching is one thing, yelling at and demeaning employees in front of customers and their peers...UNACCEPTABLE! You do NOT yell at a young employee in front of customers and their peers. These are young minds of which whom many are just starting to enter the work force. These kids don't think like a grown adult or manager. Maybe you should take the time to coach instead of yell. Invest some positive time into your employees instead of belittling them. If you need to scold for whatever reason, pull them to the side or take them in the office. They still don't know any better and need coaching. This kid was yelled at because he was finished cleaning tables and didn't jump on cleaning trays while there was no tables to clean. The worst part was, it was done in front of customers and peers from half way across the restaurant. Manager was behind the counter and kid was just past the beverage/condiment section so you know he had to yell pretty loud. What a shame. read more

We rarely if ever eat at fast food places but my fiancée simply loves their custard, and I've become a fan of it too. It is not uncommon for us to dine somewhere else in the area and then after a quick glance at their Culver's app on our phones decide to swing by the drive-through to share a single scoop of their 'flavor of the day'. In fact I'm pretty sure our wedding will have Culvers custard to go with our cake :) If forced to actually eat an entire meal here I've often had one of the various salads which are much better than the McDonald's salad crap I've seen. The avocado can be on the mushy side but the rest of the veggies seem to be pretty fresh and overall it's not bad. The chicken is a bit on the buttery side, as expected, but still better quality than other fast food place's chicken. We usually share an order of the cheese curds as tossing health aside you just have to live sometimes and get some deep-fried cheese. Once I tried the butter burger and didn't care much for it, but I eat so few hamburgers that when I do have one then this is not the place I'd want to use up my self-imposed allocation on. So for an all-up dining experience I'd have to say this is closer to 3 stars, probably 4 when comparing only to other fast food chains, but if we are only taking about custard and cheese curds then it's a solid 5, so I'm splitting the difference at 4 stars. read more

A meat special on Friday during Lent, gee how thoughtful. We went for fish dinners but the prices are so HIGH, we decided on fish sandwiches instead. At least the fish sandwiches were tasty, both the cod and the walleye. Then we went up to order dessert and the cashier, who was rather rude, I feel messed up the order by overcharging for a topping that should have been included in the flavor of the day, but was adamant it was correct. In the end it was likely miscommunication between us, and I didn't feel like arguing. The cherry on top was not receiving any caramel in the flavor of the day, which furthered my opinion that she had created the order incorrectly. I don't see us going back on any Friday until at least after Easter, at which time I'll stick to their salads. read more

First and only Culver's I've ever been to in the chain. Seen 'em around, driven by most of them. Just stopped in this one to see what it was all about. Well, it's fast food. The fish entrees are pretty good. Costs a bit more than regular fast food but the quality is a bit better too. I like that they have caffeine free diet pepsi (as my wife likes to call it, the "why bother soda") out where I can get my own unlimited refills. They take your order, give you a number, and then walk the food over to your table like Carl's Jr. does. Whoo! This location has a few patio tables outside too. read more

We took our family there recently. We've been to other Culver's Restaurants and was glad to see the restaurant was clean like the others. The service and food were great and we spent some time talking to the General Manager and Owner, Nick. I think he genuinely cares about his customers and knows many regulars by name. They were really good about coming around and cleaning up your trash also. Even though it's a DIY place, sometimes if they see you are done, they will offer to clean it up for you. It's a great place to bring the family with a variety of food and great service, without having to pay tip like you might at an Applebee's or Chili's. I love their Walleye and Prime Rib sandwiches! This cluvers is the worse, cluvers that exists. I have eaten at many clovers in two other states. Including Illinois a total of 3 states. Always ordered the same meal. This clovers in Crystal Lake makes the worse food. No flavors, not cooked propertly, everything I have ever eaten at the Crystal Lake clovers is not properly made, to the clovers standard. What a horrible customer service experience. Walked inside for 2 concrete mixers to go. There are at least 8 workers visible in the front and at least 3 in the kitchen. 1 register open and that person is taking the order of the current customer, collecting payment and then filling the order themselves. This process takes at least 5 minutes to complete. Then the ask for the next persons order. During our wait many of the customers in line with us were discussing what was going on and why the long wait. We made eye contact with many of the workers but none of them spoke to us at all. When I gentlemen behind me asked if someone else could take an order as the line now reached the door, one employee responded that he was waiting for food from the kitchen for the drive thru and couldn't help and the other person standing next to him staring at the kitchen said that he was the "9" and couldn't help either. ????? One worker finally got the female manager's attention while she was cooking and apparently eating in the kitchen and then, after a 15 minute wait, another register opened. This was one of the worst examples of customer service I have ever experienced. I will not be back and would recommend that others stay away unless you are ok with a "no help abyss" when at a restaurant. read more

I can only give two stars because of the unpredictable quality. On some nights the food is hot and fresh, and the staff polite. I don't go for the health options: It's burgers, fries, (or onion rings!), and frozen custard; mostly fried foods. Patrick is always a delight to talk with. About 2 out of 5 times (over the years; ok, we eat out a lot) the shift manager is grumpy, the custard is "gritty" and the burgers. . . less than fresh. If it weren't for the fact it is one place my daughter loves, I would probably stop going. Onion rings and cheese curds are hard to mess up ever. Hey, grumpy shift manager: how much does it really cost to make more sweet tea after 7:00 PM even if you end up tossing it? Is it really worth the . . . maybe $8 you're saving? You can save more money by better managing staff turnover. For a $33 meal for a family of 4, it's on par with other eateries, but I can get a more predictable dinner elsewhere. read more

It's a fast food burger joint. The food is decent moderately priced and with so many locations in my area its quite convenient. What sets this location off from the others is two employees. They are twin brothers Michael and Patrick and they're often working the dinning room here. They consistently go out of their way to make sure each and EVERY patron is greeted. The say hello, when you walk through the door. They make sure you're comfortable after you've been seated. Once you get your order they check to make sure you got what you ordered and are happy. They keep the dinning room presentable and well stocked. They're friendly, courteous and consistently the best reason to come here and the one reason I give this location such a high rating. read more

The people that work at Culver's are extremely pleasant. The comfort food that is served there is affordable (though loaded with calories). An adult is allowed to buy the Team Scoopie meal which is a smaller serving size. Switch out the included drink with a cup of coffee, pair that with the included sundae with topping, and it's pretty filling. read more
