So disappointed. Specifically went to the Sauk store for a pork tenderloin sandwich. Didn't see it on the menu & when I asked the kid taking our order he said no & looked totally confused. (It's on the app menu) So I ordered a mushroom Swiss burger & while the sandwich tasted okay it was dripping in grease. Not the normal delicious buttery grease but like cheap burger grease. I must have sopped up 6 napkins because it was so nasty. Toppings in our flavor of the day cups was sparse Dinner choice was between Culver's or A&W. After many years, Culver's is still my favorite restaurant! The food is exceptional, with many classic dishes that satisfy year round and some seasonal delicacies to spice things up. The custard they serve is AMAZING. I have NEVER come across a rude staff member. Everyone member of their staff works really hard and treats their coworkers and customers with respect. The only thing that has bothered me at this restaurant is customers being rude to the staff. Although many people leave a mess, intentionally or not, the staff is always right on it. I love Culver's but how hard is it to double check things before handing them off to the customer? FOUR TIMES IN A ROW they have neglected to put ALL the items I paid for into the darn bag! It's senseless, and no matter how busy you get, that was never an excuse before. Seems like extra busy should mean extra care towards the customer. We're busy too. And in Sauk you have to drive a ways to get to Culver's, so all that time and gas is wasted as well. I am frustrated and cannot accept that this cannot improve. Whoever ran the store in the past managed just fine. Stop apologizing unless it's followed by a change in behavior. How hard is it to ask the food runners to compare the receipt with the order to ensure everything's there? I pay for this. It's their job, not mine. DO BETTER! read more

Well if you're this close to the corporate Culver's headquarters, you have to get yourself a butter burger. The people are so kind that work here. I had a huge order to place, one of those orders that you do for a group of people. It was a mess of an order, and I felt bad being "that guy", but the lady who took my order couldn't have been more sweet. The food came out fast and fresh. I have always been a Culver's fan! We were vacationing in Wisconsin Dells and saw that the "original" Culver's was only a 20 minute drive. In my mind, I was assuming that it might look different from the current Culver's restaurants. However, it looked just like all the rest. It did have signage that said it was the original Culver's. Check your order before leaving, including the beverages. This location routingly fails to include everything you ordered. For Drive Thru and Curbside Pickup they do not mark the beverages, so you'll need to taste each one to find out and they may have given you the wrong order. If you don't receive what you've paid for, it is a fail. Today I had to drive back to get the items they didn't include in the bag. I made the mistake of leaving again without checking myself. I get home, start giving everyone their food and still, incomplete. I didn't bother going back. I miss the days when Culver's had excellent service. Now they're like McDonald's. Am beginning to really like this chain of restaurants. Always clean, staff is always very friendly, and the food is decent. This location is no different yet excels in everything I mentioned above! Very very happy. Had the normal butter burger platter and it came out within two minutes of ordering, lightning speed compared to other fast food establishments, no names mentioned golden arches. The last 5 times I've been to Culver's, I've had the cod dinner, and only 1 of them five times the fish was actually good. The other times, the oil that it was cooked in was way past its prime. It had terrible taste, and the texture on fish was even off because of the oil. I called and complained the first two times. On one of them calls the guy who answered the phone, he told me they were purposely using the oil longer because it was costing too much to change it. Which made me mad cause the price of the dinner has gone up and they expect the customer to pay more for a worse product. I did try Culver's a few times after that, but the fish was the same gross. I didn't bother with calling. I haven't been back now for almost 4 months. I used to get a fish dinner at least once a week before, sometimes twice. I don't eat red meat, so I don't have anything to say about the burgers. My dad seems to like them but misses the jumbo burger. I've been going to Culver's since they opened in 1984. read more

I ordered and waited for almost fifteen minutes even though I clearly saw several employees standing around doing essentially nothing, and when I did receive my food, I nicely handed the number tent to the manager and he snatched it away hard, and giving me attitude said with that tone, "Have a nice day". To me, the best part about Culver's is the variety of food. Yes, they're famous for their butter burgers, but I think they're chicken tenders and fish sandwich are the best I've ever had. I also love their pork tenderloin sandwich and the cheese curds are very good. This location in Sauk City happens to be the original Culver's location, and there's even a plaque on their front patio that says so. Culver's is a fast food joint that serves never frozen beef burgers that are made to order, and has lightly buttered toasted buns. Typical combos include a ButterBurger with fries and a root beer. I ordered a single patty ButterBurger with fries and a diet root beer. The burger itself had a very odd shaped small patty and wasn't centered, so my burger was lopsided. The cheese had already melted, so it was hard to re-center it. Overall the flavor was a very standard fast food burger, and wasn't as delicious as an In-n-Out burger. My friend says he orders the mushroom and swiss usually, so if I had another chance, I'd give that one a try. The fries are very standard cafeteria crinkle fries, at least from what I could tell. But let me tell you about the fried cheese curds - they were great. If you can afford the calories, definitely order a side of fried cheese curds. One thing that comes with having burgers made to order is the wait time. If you are inside, they'll hand you a number card that you place on a stick on your table so that the waiters will bring out your food. And if you're going thru the drive thru, you'll need to first pay, then pull up to an empty drive thru spot further up, and they'll bring out your food. For that reason, you'll see a lot of families come to eat at Culver's, because they can usually afford the time. If I were a working professional in Wisconsin, I'm not sure I would take the time to wait for a pretty standard fast food burger for lunch. If I had another chance to stop by, I'd want to give their custard a try because that's another thing that they are known for. But if I were to recommend anything to order, it would be the fried cheese curds. read more

The food was as good as any other culvers, which is to say very good. What is with Culver's lately? I travel around the state for work and stop in at various locations for lunch when I feel the need to fill my gut with a belt busting lunch. Today's experience at the Sauk City location was just horrendous. I ordered the Colby Pub Burger. It was 3pm. I waited and waited, and at 3:15 a tray arrived. the lady was nice when she brought it out, but good Lord, 15 minutes for a burger? When the thing arrived, it should have been served by Sims Exteriors. It was burned to a crisp and the patties resembled a box of shingles, not meat. Fries. Cold. So cold they gave my tongue freezer burn. I hoofed my lousy tray of crap up to the counter where the manager met me. She was cool. Gave me a refund. I didn't have to argue for it. That's why there are 2 stars. Lately Culver's has gotten lax in the quality department, and high in the price department. Whether it be Sauk City or other locations, I'll think twice before stopping. The flagship Culver's! After an afternoon of exploring the Wisconsin River region, we swung through the drive-through for drinks and a little snack before heading home. I noticed an employee doing the rounds outside (inspecting signs, trash cans, seating, etc.) as we came in and later learned he was the manager as he handed me a "free cone" token when he heard me order a scoop of custard. The inside and outside was incredibly clean....Seriously clean. This is the first Culvers ever and maybe that is why it was so nice but for real....impressed. read more

Starting off with the only complaint I have with this location, which is that it can get crowded. Other than that, this is a great location with good fast food! In my experience, if I ever had an issue or mistake, I would let the workers know, and they would change, fix, or compensate me right away. Custard is so good! Workers are friendly. Let me tell you a story about the best Cheeseburger I've ever had the pleasure of consuming... It all started today, September 1st, as my girlfriend and I began our road trip home from a fun day on Lake Sherwood with family & friends. Over the past week, Culver's was frequently on my mind due to the fact that I tried it for the first time a week prior (Madison location). I ordered a Single Butterburger and a Crispy Chicken Sandwich. Anyways, we were hungry and decided to stop in at the Sauk City Drive Thru on our way home. I was craving a burger, so naturally I decided to go with a Double Butterburger (I found the meat to condiment/bread ratio on the Single Butterburger to be insufficient). I ordered the burger with Cheese, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Pickles, and Mayo. After taking delivery of my purchase, I parked the car and opened the Butterburger Box. I lost my breath;I had no words. It was as if a Televsion advertisement jumped from the TV screen onto my lap. All I could muster was a single "...wow". I picked the burger up and rotated it in my shaking hands, noting the symmetry and admiring the warmth and plushness of the bun... Nothing was out of place. The two patties were exquisitely centered on the bun, with the cheese perfectly melted on the exact center of each. The lettuce and tomatoes were comfortably and securely nestled within. Next came the first bite... I was in shock. The warm bun was toasted along the edges, providing a heavenly, tantalizing texture as my teeth began to sink in. When I reached the patties, I was promptly greeted with an excellent sear and charred taste. Most of all, the condiments were applied and arranged in such a perfect ratio that it couldn't have been accident....this was calculated. As I was finishing my burger, (During which I was moaning with each bite, much to the annoyance of my girlfriend) I noticed one final thing. There was no mess, no dripping...just a perfectly clean box sitting on my lap. No napkin needed. A minor depressive episode hit me after I swallowed the last bite. I realized there was nothing left. I annoyed my girlfriend further by muttering "WOW" at least 60 times after the meal was complete. I just couldn't comprehend the perfection that blessed my taste buds for a measly six or so dollars. Now...here I am creating a Yelp account to leave my first ever review. From this point forward, I'll be visiting more Culver's locations around the Madison area, silently but ruthlessly comparing their Double Butterburgers to the blessed perfection I had in Sauk City today. I hope that I'm pleasantly surprised. Also, to the kitchen staff at 9:15PM on September 1st, thank you for this experience. You all deserve a raise. read more

Oh Culver's, how I miss you. I remember when you were the first and only Culver's alive, and how the family would stop for tasty treats on the ride from Waunakee to Devil's Lake. Good times! I keep trying to rave about your butter burger goodness to anyone who will listen here on the West Coast. They all go on and on about "In-n-Out" being the best burger place in existence...but knowing they've never sampled your mouth-watering burgers with a frozen custard shake and an order of onion rings on the side, well, they simply don't know what they're talking about. My boyfriend and I stopped here on our way out to Minnesota and we were not disappointed. We frequently venture to Culver's near us in Michigan and we were excited to know that this was the original Culver's location. Our burgers were excellent and the custard was even better! This food is amazing. Although Culvers is recognized for their butter burgers, I always get their chicken tenders. They are crispy, but not too crispy. The chicken is cooked perfectly. It is literally perfect. Their French fries are amazing too. They have the perfect amount of salt and crispiness. Also, their cheese curds are literally perfect. Their food lives up to all the commercials. Their ice cream is creamy and has a great flavor. There are literally so many options at Culver's and they are all so good.
