I did run in just to get some cream puffs. I heard they were fabulous. I got three mini cream puffs and decided to also get a mini blueberry pie. Service was fast, attentive and easy to work with. I got out fast. so in terms of service. services is great, fast and no complaints Cream puff was phenomenal. The pastry had like a nice Crisp too. It was not soggy and the whip cream was super stiff. Not too sweet. Just the right amount of flavors the pie very good perfect for four people. We cut it into four pieces. We enjoyed. It is just a really good home cooked quality pie, and cream puff. Painful experience. First thing my girlfriend said is "this place needs a good scrubbing. Table wobbled, went to another one... Same thing. Coffee was burnt beyond drinkability. My rye toast simply wasn't toasted. Came out as bread. The hashbrowns weren't actually cooked, some were still cold from frozen. No real table service, had to get up and get a container to take all the food home for my dog. Ate last night's popcorn, after getting a coffee at Quiktrip. Should've remembered my restaurant pro Tip: if you come in at 11 am on a Saturday and no one's there....There's probably a reason. read more

I absolutely love the carrot cake I would come in at least once a week to get some. I recently stopped because the cake was moldy inside. I brought it back she told me it was a brand new fresh that day carrot cake. I got it home stuck my fork I it and once again MOLD!!! So if it was moldy 2 times in a row, how many times have I eaten MOLDY Carrot Cake? Prob a lot !!! So never again. Check your bakery items. They look delicious but often times there stale or moldy. Cream Puffs are not fresh every day and the cream is often stale and doesn't taste good and that's the whole point of eating a CREAM Puff!!! read more

I just had a horrible experience here. As soon as I sat down, the bus boy started mopping and used too much bleach in the cleaning water. I overheard another older couple say something amongst themselves. I ordered the taco salad and when it arrived I could tell right away the taco meat was dry, flavorless, and mealy. I broke the taco shell and meat went all over the place. I took a couple bites, but had to stop and leave the place hungry. read more

Classic Americana truck stop. Good solid stick to your ribs fare. The chicken fried steak was tender and delicious. Real mashed potatoes and homemade gravy an excellent side dish. Homemade chili is delicious. Exceptional banana cream pie was wonderful topper to our meal. Service was great read more

I really had a bad experience at "Hwy Café and Bakery" this morning. I ordered the Southern Breakfast that comes with 2 eggs, potatoes, a sausage patty, a biscuit and a cup of gravy. I asked the waitress (a 70 something woman) for well-done American Fries. After the breakfast came the American Fries were barely deep fried, were yellow and mushy, exactly how I DON'T like American Fries. The eggs and the sausage were OK but the gravy was bland and tasteless and the biscuit was a clump of what crumbled like compressed sawdust, again with no taste. That 70 something waitress never came back to check on me, so I didn't have a chance to send the order back to cook the potatoes more. I left most of the breakfast un-eaten, a minimal tip and went to pay the guest check. The person at the cash register was, you guessed it, that 70 something waitress. I asked to have a blueberry fritter to go and she wrapped up an apple fritter for me. When I told her again that I wanted a blueberry fritter, the waitress opened it's smart mouth and said "Sorry, you look like an apple fritter kind of guy to me". I paid for the food and left without telling that 70 something smart mouth to stuff it where the sun don't shine, her sarcastic humor was not appreciated, especially after being such an incompetent waitress. So two strikes against this restaurant, I'm never going back! read more

I went there last week. It's in the old pinecone space and we kept seeing the open sign so we stopped by. A lot of the same staff that worked for pinecone are there and the service was great. Food was great I got a corned beef skillet and it was great. Ordered hot tea and enjoyed that as well. Grateful to have our little spot back in action even if it is new ownership. The menu is full of a lot of options (apologies I forgot to take a photo of it). It was great to be back in our booth and supporting another local business. Greetings. Highway Cafe is a very open and rustic restaurant inside of a truck stop. The moment I walked in I was greeted by their staff and was invited to sit wherever. After taking a seat I ordered their Chicken ranch wrap and water. The food came surprisingly quick in about 8 minutes. The Chicken ranch wrap was good, I'd like to mention the ranch is more like a buffalo bleu cheese sauce in flavor. I'm happy with the size and flavor it was more meat heavy aswell. After finishing my meal I decided to stop by their bakery which is all made in house. I got their Cheese cake brownie and I was very surprised on how well it was made. The cheese cake portion was perfect, and the brownie portion was very good however there was less then I'd like of the brownie. In all a very good stop and I will hopefully be dining there again. So....we went back here to give this place another try. Of the four of us, my omelet was about the worst I've ever had. The others said their meal's were good. Mine....not so much. The fried potatoes were mostly raw. The larger ones would not yield to a fork A knife was required! The meat lovers omelet had some of the egg not cooked. I even asked for it to be really really well done. Didn't come that way. Yuk!! Maybe just my luck, don't know but they will have to drag me, kicking and screaming to return. All four of us had to make at least one hurry up bathroom trip. Not a good time. read more

Disclaimer--I typically just swing by here for bakery, but that said their bakery is great! Donuts are enormous, and their fritters are a particular gem. I hear the eclairs are also delicious, however the person I got two for ate them without sharing, so I'll just have to believe them. read more

I had a bad experience here as I ordered the 'Waffle with meat' and the waffle had a strong onion taste to it and then I was charged for a waffle as well as meat which significantly increase my bill and when I pointed out on the menu what I had ordered and that I had been over charged, the man at the registered slammed his fist down on the counter and told me to have a good day. read more

We had been going to the Pine Cone restaurant for years, my favorite place for breakfast anytime. When the Highway Cafe opened, we were thrilled to start going to Deforest for food again. The food was delicious, service was great, and the Monster cookies to die for! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

Worst meal ever! Soup was cold, the "hamburger steak" was a burnt hockey puck. When we voiced our concern the owner said well it's the end of the night, this was at 8:30 PM and then she said here's your bill! Did not care at all that we were unhappy or offer to correct the meal . We will never go back . It's so sad since the old owners left . I would give this a zero rating if I could. read more
