This Culver's is of the main road. So it's kinda hidden. Which is good as it wasn't crowded for dinner at 6 o'clock. I had the crispy chicken sandwich with fries. The crinkle fries were crunchy and hot..fresh. I love crinkle fries when hot and crispy. The chicken sandwich was also crunchy and hot. But they didn't add and mayonnaise which made the sandwich dry. I can't believe a Culver's opened up in Skokie! This ButterBurgers chain has been around since' 84, and besides their famous burgers, they have salads, soups, fried chicken, and frozen custard. I had a hankering for their Cheese Curds when I was home - these are made with un-aged yellow and white WI cheddar, and the nuggets are deep-fried golden brown; think of mozzarella sticks, but being oh-so-much better and in nugget/bite-sized form! They usually come with either ranch or marinara, but neither came with - they were just fine with the ketchup, though, or all on its own. The staff are pretty friendly, and one actually walks around and makes small talk with you! You order up at the cashier, are given a number tag, grab a seat, and the food is delivered. We have been going to Culvers alot lately. We are Orthodox Christians and we fast from all meat products for 50 days during Lent. This is the first year my daughter's fasting and she is very stressed out as a pre med college student. We went to Culver's around 9:45 on Saturday. We ordered 4 items- 2 orders of fries, a cod fish sandwich and fried shrimp. I checked he bag and there were 4 items in the bag. I get home and instead of the shrimp we received a bacon cheeseburger. So my daughter was super upset. it was late and I didn't call to complain. I called the store on Monday and I got shamed for not calling earlier and that I should know better(I told them I have owned restaurants for over 27 years and that with all their company procedures that they have they still made careless mistakes. I understand everyone makes mistakes but how you handle them is another issue. The person on the phone aggressively shamed me. Honestly we went there for convenience. The product is sub par. I can get better quality shrimp and fries and fry them in non seed oils . That is what I usually do and should of done. Being in the customer service business I have had to deal with many customers. If my employees or myself handled matters in this way we would of been out of business in a second. It is so sad that these franchises backed by large corporations are taking over and taking business away from mom and pops. Normally a big fan of Culver's. Food is generally very-good, service is usually polite, friendly, and quick. This visit was marred by one of the people working there (Jason) feeling the need to publicly reprimand the cashier (Alex) about how he mistakenly rang in our order for custard. This was after the young lady actually making the dish had asked a quick question of us to clarify. Bad form. Pull the lad aside or wait 15 seconds until we had headed back t our table to mention it. Very un Culver's like experience.Alex recognized the awkwardness of the situation and felt a need to apologize, letting us know it was his firts week on the job. My siblings and I have a tradition of going to Culver's nearly every Sunday night. The staff knows us by name and knows our usual order! That being said, we love Culver's! The Butterburger has a delicious fluffy, buttery bun with perfectly cooked beef and very fresh tomatoes, onions, pickles, and lettuce. The crinkle-cut fries are always warm and crispy. The real reason we come to Culver's is for their concrete mixers. No other places that sell frozen custard come close the Culver's! Solid burger place! Let's start with the good stuff. With the situation going on right now, did a takeout. Now, I had double deluxe? Two parties with two cheese. For toppings, I did everything. I like to have my burger with all the toppings for that variety of flavor from different ingredients. Taste was great! Bun was buttery enough, not as buttery as popeyes so those who thought popeyes sandwich bun are a bit too oily, this should work out for you. Now, I only had the burger this time. No shake, no fries. Just the burger. But I gotta say, the taste of the patties were on point. The patties were rich in flavor, and I was able to have that grill taste from them. For those of you who are familiar with In-N-Out, I think it's fair to say they're like midwest version of them. Burger is slightly bigger than them, maybe a bit pricier. However in no way am I saying they were expensive, just a bit more than in n out. Double deluxe one I had was 5.49 before tax. If you don't want to have a fastfood burger but doesn't want to opt for the fancy gourmet burger, this is it! I was, however, extremely disappointed yesterday, when I asked for barbecue sauce for my pork tenderloin sandwich and had to pay extra for it! I could understand if I was randomly ordering sauce only, or if I wanted dozens of sauces, but seriously, shouldn't you get 1 free sauce with a sandwich? My last visit to Culver's was great! I went with my nieces who are 6,7, and 10 years of age. Once we get to the register all my nieces change their mind about what they want. Mike our cashier was so patient with taking their orders. All the crazy changes they requested, Mike made it seem like it was no big deal. Every change we asked for he was able make it happen. We ordered a bunch of shakes, and Mike offered us a few cups of water.... It was as if he could read my mind. Once we got seated, Mike brought our food to our table. The order came out correctly which was a relief since the orders were changed at least 2 times. Our food tasted great, and we were all happy with the portion sizes. After our meal, Mike comes to help clear our table but let's us know about all the coupons on the bags of the kids meals. He tears off a coupon and explains to the girls if the turn one coupon in the can get a free desert, if the collect 10 coupons the could get a free kids meal. All, the girls were excited about the promotion but I was more impressed with Mike's service. He was on top of everything. This last visit completely changed my outlook on the Culver's brand. The food is great and the service is unforgettable. We have been back 3 times since and are continuing to collect our coupons. Thank you Mike, and the Culver brand for the great experience. If you have been to one Culver's you have been to them all, the food is always top notch. I love the double butterburger with cheese. I do like the French Fries, but in the interest of my waistline, I skipped that. I also got a scoop of their frozen custard, and made my own Root Beer Float with the Culver's Root Beer. It's their own special Root Beer, which is tasty on it's own, but if you add their frozen custard to that, it is a very smooth drink. Again, I skipped the fries. Would also like to add that this Culver's in Skokie, was nice and clean all around, and the staff was great, and the service was fast, the food was excellent. I am not a big fan of fast food but my family likes the custard here and I will have a butter burger from Culver's every now and then. Those are decent. Nothing else on their menu appeals to me, although my daughter likes their chicken tenders and they seem popular with all the kids around here. My husband used to LOVE their fried chicken, so much that we would drive to the location on Dempster before this one opened close to our house. Now that they've discontinued their fried chicken altogether, he doesn't do Culver's anymore. They lost a loyal customer! So we come occasionally for the custard. Among fast food chains, this is one of my favorites. I'm so glad they opened one nearby. The service is always friendly and courteous. The food is made fresh and their burgers are much better than other burger fast food joints. I just wish their fries were better, but they have good onion rings and cheese curds are the best! I've tried their fish sandwiches, pot roast sandwiches and even their version of a Reuben and I just don't recommend the Reuben. Their fried chicken is good and their crispy chicken tenders are one of my son's favorites. What can I say, I've loved Culvers since I first had it on our annual church camp retreats up in Wisconsin. We would get to eat there once a year on the way back home, and I always always looked forward to it (back then, I was a huge fan of their crispy chicken sandwich). Years later, when I heard that Culvers was coming to Illinois/literally 8 minutes away from my house, I was allllllll for it. Heck...I actually used to work here for about a year or so back when I had just graduated from High School as one of my first official jobs. While they're known for their butter burgers, after having burger-ed myself out long ago, I come here just for their fried cod and of course fries+cheese curds. I have NO idea what it is, but I've never had fried cod as good as here regardless of the location. I love Culver's double cheese burgers. I'm so glad they moved into Illinois. It was always a treat to go there when on the road somewhere in Wisconsin. Now I can go there anytime I want. They actually do cook the burgers to order and thats mostly what makes them so good. I had intended to take mine back to work only a couple minutes away but I made the smartest decision of the day and ate that burger in my car...why wait I thought! Since they do cook burgers to order it creates a log jam after you order and pay. They steer you to a drive thru waiting area and they run it out to your car when it's ready. It's worth it. I had the chili with my order today and would not get it again. Wendys is much better. Great menu with fried Walleye and of course that custard.
