RHR Double Cheeseburger and Fries. Add pickles and grilled onions

It's pretty dangerous that this opened up near my home. staff is so friendly and attentive. I can't get enough!!

Wearing the name of an iconic North Side favorite that began as a small "shack" on Devon Ave. in 1952, Redhot Ranch remains true to tradition. There are absolutely no frills and the "décor" is virtually unchanged from the prior occupant of this space. The menu is short & sweet, and they accept cash only, no credit cards. Apart from the presence of an ATM, everything is old school. No computerized nuthin', no QR codes. You order at the counter the old-fashioned way. A worker calls your name when your order is ready and hands you a paper bag. You can recite the entire menu in one breath: Hot dogs, burgers, cheeseburgers - single or double; Polish, fried cod sandwich, fried shrimp, and fountain drinks. A generous mound of crispy fresh-cut fries accompanies everything. Their special sauce is King. Prices are rock-bottom; burgers+fries are HALF the price of Five Guys. The Missus and I ordered double burgers. Similar to other popular burger chains, theirs are prepared smash-style on the griddle. The end product is quite tasty and with a great texture. It's either very juicy or very greasy, depending on your point of view. If you prefer to eat a healthier meal, this is not the place. With an Oberweis ice cream shop under the same roof, you can enjoy a shake or malt with your meal and a frosty dessert without leaving the building!

Three weeks in - probably need some more time to get efficient compared to the other RHRs. Good thing - plenty of seating whether on RHR or Oberweis side. (They probably don't mind spillover since some folks get things from both or one after the other.) Big parking lot - fish sandwich was a sadder (soggy, colorless, dare I say flavorless) compared to ones we've gotten at RHR Ashland (Lakeview). Half lb shrimp and double cheese were right on. Fries if anything might have been a little soggy. No Mtn. Dew in the Pepsi fountain lineup. Is it missing from the other locations? Umbrellas present and open at all four outdoor tables. Got a double scoop at Oberweis to wrap things up. First time there - will have to see if they'll split flavors on single. Our double was a lot on top of RHR.

This used to be THAT BURGER JOINT, but it's been (very lightly) converted to the Red Hot Ranch. The kitchen, the tables, and even that ORDER HERE sign are all reused! I don't know the reputation of RHR, but apparently it's got a good one. The prices are great! You can get a lot of burger and fries for under $10 (as of the date of this review, of course). Reminder - cash only. I tried the double cheeseburger, the polish sausage, and the fish sandwich. The cheeseburger is kind of the classic smooshed sandwich you get from a greasy spoon! Delicious and beefy and did I mention greasy? It's somewhere between the pricey artisan burgers and the mass production fast-food burgers. The polish is more like the Vienna Beef style polish, so it's more of a hot dog texture. Not my thing, I prefer the grilled style polishes. The fish sandwich is substantial though, so that's a nice one. Everything came with fries which was like a potato and a half worth of fries. The staff prepared the food quickly and accurately. There is seating indoors and some spots outdoors too. Generous parking too and I came Friday night and it was crowded, but not full.

This is the newest Red Hot Ranch collaboration with Oberweis Ice Cream. The first things that bought me joy was the classic Vienna Beef umbrellas out front. I totally forgot that this place is cash only, but they have an ATM ($2 charge). I walked up to the counter and was greeted promptly. I ordered the RHR double burger and a hot dog. Both come with fresh cut fries. As I waited for my order, I went to the other side and bought a shake. The RHR side is very rustic with wood paneling and boxes of potatoes that would be used that day. Oberweis and RHR is split right down the middle. I received my food and sat down. The burger is a smash burger done right with little crispy edges with with minimal toppings. Lettuce, onion, tomato and their special sauce. I definitely recommend a double as the single is never enough. The hot dog is a depression style dog. I love that it's a snap dog with only onion, relish, hot peppers and mustard. The hot dogs were a hit. The fries were crispy while being fluffy and well salted. I'm glad this place is now in the north burbs.

This was a good burger at a good price. Service was polite and quick, ambiance is very casual. One thing to note--they only take cash, so make sure you have done with you. Parking is easy--there's a lot with plenty of room. This place is attached to an Oberweis, which is to say, this and the Oberweis are the same building, right next to each other. So it's easy to walk to the next counter and get dessert.

I got the polish that comes with onions, mustard, and sport peppers. It comes with fries as well. It was so good! There's a drive through and plenty of covered outdoor seating. The menu only has hot dogs, polish, and tamales. Simple yet so tasty. They also have soft drinks and milkshakes.

I'm so disappointed. I was looking forward to a Chicago style fastfood spot in Skokie. I went on a Saturday night. Only 2 people ahead of me in line when I walked in. I ordered 2 cheeseburgers and fries. Somehow I came out almost an hour later. Worst part was the food wasn't even hot. Burger was ok at best. Fries were soggy.

Just sucks. Cheddar for fries is processed. Slow and mediocre. They don't know how to do a proper Chicago style dog.

Since then, I have off-and-on ordered from nearby restaurants yet with an interest in revisiting Dear Franks at some point. It was not until I recently discovered its veggie and plant-based items on the menu when I made it a high priority to visit, being that I am now a vegetarian. After attending training at my job which sits no more than a mile from Dear Franks, I made my visit. Its location sits along W Touhy Ave amongst a mixture of restaurants and shopping stores that are relevant to the community of Niles. I was acknowledged shortly after I walked in and up to the counter to look at the menu which was plastered above the counter. It took me some time to look at the menu because the menu online differed from the menu onsite above the counter. I had a taste for a veggie hot dog, but I did not see it featured on the menu above the counter, figuring that it was no longer an option at the time. So, I ended up ordering their veggie burger, fries, and a drink which was completed within several minutes. While paying, I could not help but notice Turano products near the register. Turano baking company, a family-owned bakery that produces authentic and delicious breads. I drive by Turano's daily enroute to my primary job and it is hard not to notice its building exterior, which has a commanding presence. Being that I have had the interest in visiting Turano's for some time now, I ended up purchasing a Turano - chocolate chunk cookie to go along with my veggie burger, fries, and drink. Maybe now after purchasing the chocolate chunk cookie, it will urge me to visit its location in Berwyn. I chose to dine-in at Dear Franks since I had plenty of time in my day, plus I figured that I still had time to beat the traffic on Edens Expressway enroute back to Chicago. The inside of Dear Franks appeared clean, and the atmosphere gave off a sporty vibe with pictures of Chicago sports teams, and iconic sporting moments in history of those teams featured. And there are a number of tables with seats available inside of the dining area, plus a television plastered on the wall near the entrance for viewing pleasure as you eat. The crinkle-cut fries were the first item I started off with eating. Though not as good as Portillo's crinkle-cut fries, ketchup certainly complimented them well. From that point on, I could not resist eating them all after the addition of ketchup. I moaned in enjoyment after my first bite of the veggie burger; it was garnished with everything I requested such as ketchup, mustard, lettuce, and tomatoes! It was very satisfying indeed. Taking note of everything I experienced: service, ambiance, and food, I have to say that it was a good experience. And with that I would gladly re-visit Dear Franks of Niles again whenever in the Niles area. Service: 4 | Ambiance: 4 | Food: 5 ~Nourish your soul. ~ Thomas G

I am satisfied with their response and improve my rating from 1 to 4 stars This isn't a negative review of the food which was the standard chain quality (good but don't splurge on it much for health reasons). I was in the area for a play and picked up a local friend. I went here because an acquaintance (who since died) gave me multiple gift cards to Portillos which I needed to use. I had 4 cards, not sure how much was left on them. We got $27 worth of food and I started handing the cashier the cards. She told me to scan them on the read light reader. Only one had a scannable bar code. She was not sure how to read the others. My friend suggested she swipe it on keyboard, she didn't seem to know this already. Card 1 red light scanned ok. Card 2 swiped ok. Card 3 she swiped and it didn't register, unclear if it worked. Card 4 brought the total to 0$. She wasn't going to give the last 2 cards back and asked for the other two. My tried to clarify that card 4 might have value left, she confidently said no. I was suspicious since the total couldn't have exactly matched my bill. The next day I looked at the receipt and it clearly said there was money left on the card, over 8$. It's unclear whether card 3 had money or she just didn't scan it. I'm presuming this was poor training but it has an element of malicious intent since she was so confident I had nothing left on the card and requested keeping all the cards. If you have gift cards beware going here unless staff are trained. Receipt attached for proof. If the business is reading this, can I cat my money back? Card 3 was for $10 value but not clear if it was touched or not.

The menus are expansive and you order at the counter when you walk in. There are plenty of tables for dining in, and a few were taken while we were there. There was a steady stream of phone orders coming in for pick up, and the restaurant was busy overall. We were helped right away and the staff at the counter were so friendly. I ordered a Maxwell street sausage as a meal ($5 additional for a drink and fries) and my partner ordered the American Gyro sandwich and also as a meal. We grabbed a table and our drinks from the fountain machine and only waited a few minutes for the number on our receipt to be called with our order. The food here is so fresh and delicious. This is one of the best Maxwell street sausages I've had around, the bread was perfect and soft inside and crispy on the outside with the sausage split and grilled and perfectly sweet caramelized onions. The fries looked like they came in frozen/pre-cut but were fried up perfect and a generous portion. The Gyro came stacked with meat, it wasn't dry, and had great flavor. Because the food was so delicious I decided to grab a piece of baklava to go, which I was assured was homemade and delicious - and they were right. So sweet, fresh, textured, rich, luxurious.
