I don't recommend going here unless you have a lot of extra disposable income. Just today I spent nearly $600 on a check-up, YES a CHECK-UP, for my dog. I hate to have to switch my dog and cat's care (especially when my dog is 12 years old), but I can't afford thousands in vet bills each year. They used to charge $75 to look at a stool sample for your pet, so I stopped bringing stool samples and now they bundle the cost of the stool sample test in with the yearly blood test, so you're charged for it whether you get it tested or not. read more

Visited Cummings with our pet. Pet was limping(which turned to be just a pulled muscle). Almost immediately we weren't comfortable with the way the vet was handling our pet. So we kindly asked for them to handle our pet differently. The vet continued to examine our pet their way causing our pet to cry out in pain. We again told the staff we weren't comfortable with the way the vet handled our pet. Cummings solution to our concern. "Since you have a problem with our Vet you can no longer come to Cummings?" Also using scare tactics to get a pet owner to agree to unnecessary tests is unacceptable. Pet owners should be politely informed that all test are not required and they do have the right to say No! Which they do! Lesson learned for me. Went in for a pulled muscle. Walked out after paying over $600?! They knew too! The receptionist said, "wow you have quite a bill today!" Cummings does not operate in the interest of the Pet owners. They are very business oriented it's all about the money, nothing else. read more

We left our beloved dog, Molly at this facility after our own vet told us she was experiencing kidney failure. Molly was at Cummings for five days. When picked her up we were informed that she hadn't eaten anything for the entire time she was hospitalized. Nothing. The tech told us that they had a policy against force feeding the animals. Our Molly was incredibly weak when we got picked her up to bring her home. She wouldn't eat the things she normally craved prior to this hospitalization. So we're using a syringe to feed her beef broth. That would hardly qualify as "force feeding". It was merely tedious and time consuming. Last Sunday my girlfriend and I got the most adorable puppy in the world. Sadly a few days later he came down with Parvo. The staff here was beyond amazing throughout the hole process. He was under their care starting on Thursday until Saturday. At that point the recommended a 24/7 facility do to the severity of our little guys disease. Long story short, Jax's parvo never got better and we woke up to a call today saying he became septic as well so today we had made the hardest choice of our lives, and put him down. If you are looking for a vet who truly cares about your pet- and their well being this is the place to go. They are not in it for the money at Alll, they are a staff who truly care about their patients. You could hear the disappointment in their voices when we called and told them the news. Would not recommend! While they are good vets, they definitely price gouge in my opinion!! They have numerous vets ( at least 8-10 ), HUGE staff, and new modern building. So who pays? The patient gets the bill!! A yearly visit is MINIMUM $300-500. They talk you into unnecessary testing, treatments and meds too. My 14 year old dog had "old dog" disease that they wanted to do an MRI on to rule out stroke- WHY?? Then they wanted an echocardiogram because of a faint murmur- WHY?? Oh and at a ROUTINE YEARLY CHECKUP they charged $5.00 for a BP check!! Really? What vet does that? I would think it's PART OF THE YEARLY EXAM!! It's become you can't have a pet unless you are rich!! Sad bec a lot of people can't afford the vets anymore. Cummings vet practice is sadly WAY TOO EXPENSIVE and I would recommend you ask prices FIRST! read more

We took our 4 month old puppy to Cummings Veterinary Clinic since it was just minutes away from our home and they had great reviews online (I now suspect employees and relatives wrote those). He had already been treated for roundworms, but still had diarrhea. They took his stool sample and ran a flotation test for other parasites. When the vet came back into the exam room she said he had hookworms and offered to also run a test for Giardia for an additional $50. We decided to treat the hookworms hoping that would take care of the problem. Well, the vet prescribed a medication to treat the hookworm, but unfortunately Cooper did not get any better. After several mix-ups with appointments and his record, we eventually took him to a different vet in N.J. There we found out that the vet administering the flotation test at Cummings would have seen the Giardia parasite at the time she saw the hookworms. And wouldn't you know it, the vet at Cummings prescribed a medication that treats hookworms exclusively, but not Giardia, even though most other medications for hookworms also treat Giardia. They purposely kept our puppy sick for another 3 weeks just to charge us for an additional office visit, an additional test, and additional medication. To intentionally keep a 16 week old puppy sick to make another $154 is true greed. Shame on you! read more

I have been going to see Cliff Cummings at Cummings Vet since 1993. That is quite a few dogs and cats over that period of time. Cliff changed practices a couple of times along the way as well. Cliff has helped us with rattlesnake bites and legs that were caught in foot traps on state game lands. Can't say enough good things about his staff, facilities and always keeping your pet's welfare first and foremost. Cliff has a very well outfitted operation with laser therapies, dental, orthopedic and general surgical rooms. the operation is kept impeccably clean and the hours of operation are also good with evenings and Saturday appointments available. read more

We usually see either Dr Danyi or Dr Derr, who are both great! Our dog loves everyone there and can't wait to go into the bldg! I've lived in a few different states and been to many vets over the years, and Cummings is definitely among the best I've seen in every category. I've seen several of the doctors at this office with my cats. All have been extremely compassionate, thorough, and informative in helping me to understand what's going on. I've definitely felt that these vets truly care about my animals, and at many times have really exceeded expectations. The offices are also clean and modern, and the staff is always helpful. I recently had to euthanize my sick, senior cat, and the vets at Cummings made sure the entire process was handled with compassion and care. Back in June our dog was very lethargic, drooling, wouldn't lay down. Took him to Cummings and they sent me home with him saying it was a stomach ache. They did xrays and said they didn't see anything. That same night, he wouldn't even sleep he was in so much pain. Took him back the next morning, they did blood work which was authorized by us and then MORE xrays which was NOT authorized by us. They charged us another $500 for something that was not authorized for them to tell us they couldn't help us, because now they all the sudden saw something in the xrays and he needed surgery due to an obstruction. So now, up to almost $1,000 worth of bills and told to go else where. We told them we didn't want to pay them, and the woman at the desk told us we couldn't have our dog if we didn't pay. So we did and she told us to dispute later. We drove all the way to North Star and there at the new hospital, they admitted him and he was there for 7 days. We almost lost our 1 year old lab due to their misdiagnosis. Turns out there was NO obstruction; he needed NO surgery, he had a severe infection in his armpit due to a insect bite of some kind. But Cummings could not determine that from the blood test? Because of their mistake we spent another $7000 in hospital bills for our dog. They almost killed my dog and I would NEVER recommend them to anyone! We disputed our charges and they must have LIED to the company because now we are stuck paying bills for such terrible service. read more

Be aware they are going to put their bottom line before your pet's well being. I started using them about 1 1/2 years ago after moving into the area. My first suspicion of an issue was when every time I went it seemed my dog needed new vaccines. My second suspicion was when they told me I should pay to test my dog for excessive cortisol levels because his hair was thinning (this was weeks after I had paid for a $200+ bloodwork up for his dental). He had just been shaved and has had allergy problems his whole life (which seems to be the main cause of hair issues). Though the kicker was they supposedly suspected he had excess cortisol but had no problem giving him a cortisol shot with the vaccine he was getting due to aforementioned allergies. Who gives cortisol to an animal you actually think has excess levels of it? The straw that broke the camels back though was when I ordered my flea/tick/heartworm meds online from an accredited pharmacy. I had done this in the past with no problem but now they wanted me to fill out a waiver. So I did that, but then that wasn't enough I also needed to get the prescription and mail it in myself they would not simply confirm it directly with the pharmacy (something every other vet I've ever gone to has had no problem with and is actually required in some states). When I mentioned that I never had to do this before they said they'd look into it, but a few days later I still hadn't heard anything so I finally went and got the prescription so I could get the medications. Their refusal to just approve the prescription directly with the pharmacy means my animal needs to wait an extra week to get his medicine (thankfully I ordered well in advance but they don't know that). And just in case there was any question over whether this was truly about protecting me from the evil of online pharmacys and not trying to bully me into buying directly from them I was told they would have approved the prescription directly if it was something they did not sell. They also have their own online pharmacy that they, of course, have no problem with you using. Along medication lines it is worth noting that when my dog had said dental he was prescribed a bunch of medication that I did buy directly from Cummings. Soon thereafter he started throwing up and when I called them about it I was told to just stop all the medicine (again odd that he supposedly needed the medicine before and now all of a sudden didn't). Meanwhile the online pharmacy I wanted to use has been providing me medicine for multiple years now and that medicine has never once made my animal sick. This is on top of just the frustrating things like long wait times and them rescheduling appointments on me at the last minute. read more

We have owned dogs in 4 states over about 30 years and dealt with a number of excellent vets and clinics. There is no doubt that Cummings is a great facility. The entire staff is well trained and pleasant; they also are obvious with their affection for your pet. The facility is immaculate and the 5 vets do an excellent job of keeping abreast with he states or your pet's wellness or treatment. While we generally choose the same vets for our dogs it is simply a matter of convenience for all involved. It is impossible to find a finer veterinary clinic. read more

The building itself is very nice. When I was waiting in the lobby it reminded me of a movie or something because it's very clean and white. There is elevator music playing and all the girls at the desk are wearing white scrubs and speak in soft tones. It seemed a little odd to me, but all the girls were very nice. The doctor was great and the staff were all attentive to my pet. I would only mention that it's quite expensive. I took my beagle in for an ear infection and I spent $340. That's a lot for a condition that isn't severe. I don't doubt that he was in good hands. I simply get the impression that their good care comes at quite a cost. read more

We recently took our pup to get a routine teeth cleaning at Cummings. We dropped him off at 8am and was told they would call if anything additional had to be done (extractions, etc.) 6:30pm rolled around and we received a call that our dog was ready for pick up and that they had to extract 3 teeth! Typically I would think the hospital should let the owners know BEFORE extracting any teeth. When we got there, we expressed our concern to the receptionist Kathleen who was very understanding and apologetic. She suggested that we do not pay for the extractions; to only pay for the cleaning and that she would pass it off to management. We were assured we would be receiving a call the following day from the Hospital Manager to review what had happened and to confirm we should not have to pay for the extractions since we did not approve it. A week and a half went by and still no call from management. We followed up last night as we did not want to receive an outstanding bill months down the line with late fees. Finally, my husband received a call back today from Dave who insisted we pay for the tooth extractions and who made it out like we had a problem paying the bill. Over a week ago we were told not to pay it as the Secretary felt awful and explained that was not typically the way they work. We had no problem paying for the extractions from the get go but it was suggested to us that we should not pay since we were not notified and since we did not approve the extractions. We appreciate the staff taking good care of our dog but unfortunately the whole situation and how it played out left a very poor impression of Cummings. We have many family friends in the area that use Cummings and we will be sure to let them know about the unfortunate experience we had. read more
