We are two very picky people and judge all vets against our best vet in NY. Hadn't found anyone close to our holistic vet (Sarah) in Blauvelt in over ten years ... until now. We don't do unnecessary tests or procedures. We don't like being pushed to get vaccinations that aren't necessary. This place is just like that. Nothing was pushed. The vet agreed to not give him an unnecessary vaccination due to this age. We agreed to a panel of tests based on the urinalysis but the vet stepped us through each possible issue and made us feel at ease and there's no need for more testing or making any changes. We didn't like the small rooms or the office space but to get a vet we like makes that irrelevant. The staff was super. The vet also told us about the other vets so we know if he's not there, we feel comfortable enough to go to a different vet in the practice. Our little guy is 14 years old and was treated with care and knowledge. I got the name of this place on nextdoor.com but I confirmed what they all said on Yelp. We felt great seeing the complaint about how this place was during the covid crisis (on Yelp) and knew it was the right place to go :) . So, thanks Yelp users. read more

Dr. Higgins and the staff at Emmaus Animal Hospital are beyond wonderful. I always feel heard by them and they treat my cat with such love, care, and concern. Most recently they helped diagnose my girl and get her on the treatment she truly needed after being misdiagnosed at a local pet ER. I came into the office earlier this month to unfortunately say goodbye to my dog of almost 15 years, Dottie. This was my first time going through this process, so I was nervous for my dog and myself. The staff couldn't be more compassionate, gentle and understanding during my time at Emmaus Animal Hospital. I wish I could give this staff 10 stars. Dr. Rick Grgurich explained the process gently and carefully to ensure Dottie and I had the smoothest transition possible. They allowed me to take my time and properly say goodbye without feeling rushed or invalidated. The staff lit a candle in the lobby for Dottie to signal other customers to be respectful and quiet during this time. That gesture meant so much to me. When we left the vet I received a personal, handwritten card from Dr. Rick expressing how sorry he was for Dottie's passing. Putting a pet down is a tough process regardless, but if you do find yourself in the unfortunate position I couldn't recommend Emmaus Animal Hospital enough. read more

Very disappointed with the way the "Covid19 Crisis " is being handled at their establishment. I can go out to eat, go to the liquor store, grocery store, bar and 7/11 but I can't take my dog in the office. Been going here with multiple dogs for years!! Spent plenty of money. i couldnt ask for a better vet. mike had been coming there since he was 4 months old. they always seemed to be able to fit mike in ,so they could take care of him. Sad to say Mike had Cancer of the bladder and we were able to give him the most wonderful 8 months of love... We miss him so much. I took my dog here for 6 years before moving out of state. After 2 sub-par experiences at another vet's office I brought Jax back to Emmaus Animal Hospital. It's a 75 minute drive but completely worth it because every doctor we've seen over the years is fantastic. They are diligent in every aspect of care. This review in in regards to a recent sick visit. Jax has overall been very healthy but I recently moved in with my boyfriend and both our dogs came down with diarrhea. To compare both quality of care and cost for the exact same ailment this week at my vet versus the one he takes his dog to: Jax, 8y/o, 90lb German Shepherd Pit bull mix, seen at Emmaus Animal Hospital -wait time: none -time with vet: 15 minutes -Sick visit and stool testing - $70, -metranizadole 500mg x 21 pills (10,500mg total): $25 Lexi: 4y/o, 6lb Yorkie, seen at Banfield Animal Hospital (PetSmart) -wait time: 17 minutes -time with vet: under 3 minutes -Sick visit and stool testing (and a laundry list of fabricated charges which included a $11 fee for taking her temperature and two separate office visit charges of $72 to walk in the door and $56 sick visit): $408 -metranizadole 250mg x 3 pills (750mg total): $22 Emmaus Animal Hospital is the best choice for veterinary care! read more

I had an appointment today at Emmaus Animal Hospital. After waiting 45 minutes, I was put in a room and the tech came in. After 70 minutes of waiting, the vet still had not see my dog. At 15 years old, its hard for her to stand for that long and she was getting agitated and at that point so was I, so I left. Honestly, if I had shown up 70 minutes late for an appointment, I'd never expect the vet to see me so why would it be acceptable the other way around? It seems to me that they don't have much respect for my time. If an emergency comes in and/or they are that busy, its as simple as letting their scheduled appointments know that they are running significantly behind and we can then choose if we prefer to wait or reschedule. I was also put off by the dirty/grimy floors and floorboards in the exam rooms. read more

They're very thorough, they listen, they take the time to get to know you and your pet. My cat is 19.5 years old have had him since he was 6 months old. First vet visit was at a chain pet store for exam and vaccinations, after 3 annual visits doing that with the 3rd visit resulting in my cats tongue turning purple and not being able to breathe ( caused by multi year rabies vaccine along with multiple shots of variety of vaccines), then a emergency visit to save my cat at some nearby animal hospital in Whitehall ( stay far far away from that rip off place over $875 for less than an hour) I thought NEVER again time to find a good rated/reviewed vet in the area for my fur baby. My search led me to Emmaus Animal Hospital. I didn't live in Emmaus but was 15 drive and after our initial visit I then knew why they were so highly rated. They took the time to thoroughly review Sammy's history, explain to me what mostly likely caused his near death experience and well restored my faith in quality vets. Over a decade of healthy happy no incident annual check ups but then, an after hours accident resulting in Sammy having a torn ACL and being in excruciating pain ( I called them 1st but not 24hr) was at mercy of nearest emergency animal hospital who took xrays and said Sammy would need surgery which they would keep him over night and do surgery next day, estimated cost $6000-$8,000! I said I would like a 2nd opinion from our family vet who is now closed but they didn't recommend pushing a sense of urgency ( there was no internal bleeding just torn ACL but he was given kitty morphine for pain and it was around 5am). It didn't feel right them pushing us right into signing up for surgery with no 2nd opinion. I took Sammy, my xrays and called E.A.H as soon as they opened. They told me to bring Sammy right up was 3 or 4 hours post incident, they reviewed the xrays and tests that were taken ( oh cost at Valley Central EAH was over $1,000 the ones that didn't want me to get a 2nd opinion), they recommended a consult with a surgeon they highly recommended for her knowledge and expertise who specializes in dealing with specifically what was happening with Sammy. Consult was only $75 and was able to get surgeon to do consult over phone while I was at their office. She said a large heavy dog would absolutely need surgery however in her experience she has seen cats ACL mend on its own over 6 weeks IF they are not heavy jumpers. Since Sammy was considered light weight around 10lbs and very sedentary since he was about 13 yrs old at time, I took her advice gave pain meds over next few weeks and monitored if his walking was improving over time. So for office visit (2nd opinion & review of tests/xrays), consult and meds I think it was under $150 as compared to the RIP OFF VALLEY CENTRAL Emergency Animal Hospital quote of $8000, well I think it needs no more commentary other than if you are looking for QUALITY care for your beloved pet at affordable pricing look no more... come here. As an update over the years I moved to Bethlehem and even though my drive is about 30 minutes it is well worth it. Recently at least 5 yrs after torn ACL, Sammy had blood in his urine and stool and was clearly not himself seemed to be in pain, took him to see Dr Obenrader ( although all the Dr's are great there) at Emmaus Animal Hospital. I really thought due to his age, I thought this was it and I was a complete and utter wreck. Many other places after knowing his age may have just recommended me putting him down but they talked me through the options (at almost 20!yrs old you do have to consider or at least guesstimate what costs will be to identify and try to cure your aged pet vs the other option but again they went through costs with me and for all necessary testing, office cost and meds was a little over $200 ( was bladder and bowel inflammation and infection), well they cured my baby and he is back to normal! Can't thank them enough. After thorough run of testing apparently Sammy has good heart and lungs, no thyroid disease which is prevalent in senior cats, and no tumors or internal masses but does have some signs of early kidney disease but other than that God willing will have him for as long as God sees fit. Very very happy customer and family and am eternally blessed to have them as our vets! read more

Years ago I brought my dogs here but had a horrible experience with a vet who is no longer there. So at that time I changed to another vet who was 40 minutes away. But in Feb. when I couldn't get an appointment there on a Sat. I called Emmaus and they agreed to see her. At the appointment they asked why we had left and invited us to return. So recently I did. My dog wasn't herself and I called to see if I could bring her over. Again they said 'yes'. My plan was to switch her that day and request records from the distant vet. Everyone deserves a second try. Dr. Obenrader, Sr. was horrible to deal with. He was rude and yelled at me to "get out." He accused me of "playing games", having the other vet but bringing her there. I could not get a word in to explain anything. He was angry, yelling and terribly unprofessional. Sometimes second tries don't work. read more

I absolutely love Emmaus animal hospital. This is by far the best veterinarian clinic I have ever been to. I trust them with everything they say and they are never pushy. The owner is in the business because he truly loves animals. My dog can be protective of me but they take care of him and comfort him. The owner always gives amazing advice and always asks for me to follow up to let him know how my dog is doing. Their prices are more than reasonable especially for an animal hospital. I live approx 45 min. away from Emmaus Animal Hospital, and it is worth every minute of my drive to bring my dogs here. I have been bringing my dogs here since the early 1990's and would never change hospitals, the service and care that we receive here cannot be matched. I don't have a prefered doctor when I call, I like them all, we receive excellent care from all the vets that see our dogs. They also offer anal gland draining and nail clipping as a service, I believe its called a tech visit, the visit is priced less then an actual vet visit. Our cocker spaniels need this done more often then getting to the groomers. read more

I moved to the area in February and have since been bringing my older cat and new kitten to Emmaus Animal Hospital. I have seen two different vets and they have both been kind and have taken time to explain everything to me. There has only been one instance so far with staff that left me disgruntled. When calling for an appointment I was not sure of the name of the last vet I had seen, and the attitude of the staff came off as rude over the phone. In person the staff, techs and vets have all been nice. It looks like the the office still uses mostly paper for booking appointments and charting, so it comes off a little dated, as well as the offices/decor. The wait times have been small or average for me, and the prices seem reasonable. There is always plenty of parking right out front. Overall, I wouldn't have a problem telling someone where I took my pets if they were looking for a vet. read more

My son and daughter-in-law brought in their much loved Rotty, Oscar, to be euthanized on the evening of 12/11/13.An already difficult and emotional experience was made even worse by the total lack of compassion and professionalism of the staff on duty that evening. First they were ignored by the staff for quite a while, and then were sent to a tiny room to wait with a large dog who was in pain. Eventually the euthanization was carried out with the dog on the floor in this room. To summarize, a total lack of respect for the animal, the family, and the situation. read more
