Terrible customer service. Be prepared to wait over 30 minutes if there's a person ahead of you.

I was able to drop off my motorhome on a short notice at Cummins Service Center on loop 610. I had a bad oil leak and I knew that but needed an estimate for my extended warranty company. A technician called me back the next day to tell me the extent of leakage in multiple places underneath the vehicle and from the top of the engine and that the warranty company would cover most of it. He precisely told me the job would take 18.2 hours of which 3 hours are diagnostic only. He told me the warranty company would only pay for 13.7 hours based on their books so I needed to pay for the difference of 4.5 hrs at the rate of $171 an hour. I told him to go ahead because I needed my RV back which I live in full time. He gave me 3 days estimate for work to be done. On the 3rd day he called me to ask permission to tear into the floor of the bedroom to get to the top of the engine and informed me that damage could happen that they wouldn't be responsible for. I asked the nature of leak from the top and he said minimal comparing to the bottom so I told him not to perform those items. Later that day another person called me from the shop to inform me that the work is done and I could pickup my RV and he gave me the total I would have to pay of around $2,000. I told him it doesn't make sense and to verify and so I had to wait until next day. He called back next morning to tell me that total I'd pay is about $1300 and I told him I'd come pickup the vehicle. When arrived at the location I had to wait an hour before someone could talk to me. When the customer service person came, he gave me the details of charges but there were no details of how many hours the job took, just one total for labor plus detailed list for parts, additional fees and taxes minus discounts they gave me. I asked if I can get detailed list of hours charged and the guy wouldn't do that but when I divided the labor total by their rate of $171 an hour I came up with 18.57 hours. I began to argue with customer service because he was being shady about what hours were charged then called the person I have been talking to and then said ok will take off another $300. I refused and wanted exact hours charged but again he wouldn't provide it. I had previously wrote down the estimate on first day and calculated the difference to be $613. Customer service agreed and I paid the difference of $742.52 but only because I have cancer and have already been there almost 2 hours and started to feel exhausted. So eventually they charged me and the warranty company 15.2 hours for all work done, over 4 hours of that I paid out of pocket. I am still positive that I was over charged and it was evident from the start they intended to steal the hard earned retirement money of a disabled veteran. I am still looking to find out how many hours exactly it would have taken to get the job done and I will pursue it legally. Do not take your vehicles to this location and be sure what's being done anywhere you go. read more

So, never having owned a motorhome before, I tend to jump in to the deep end of the pool first, I bought a used Tiffin Phaeton 40' motorhome in December 2015 and headed out on a trip from Houston, TX to Destin, FL and back. After the trip, I stopped by the house to drop off some stuff then started up the diesel pusher to drive it back to the storage facility. That's when the low voltage light came on and the temperature started to rise. Panic set in, just bought a expensive new toy to have it break. I called Cummins Southern Plains and talked with Chris. He explained what they would do and what the initial diagnostic charge would be. I had Coach-net (great value) tow the motorhome over to Cummins, where Cummins allowed me to leave it until my scheduled appointment. When my appointment date arrived, Chis let me know what work was being performed and that they had to order a new belt before they could complete the diagnostics. I would have preferred that they ordered the belt sooner, since I had told them the belt was broke. Once the belt arrived, they completed the diagnostics and found that the A/C clutch was locking up; which meant replacing the clutch, compressor, manifold, etc. I'm glad I joined the Cummins Power Club ($20) for RV'ers, as this provided a nice discount on the final bill. As I mentioned in my previous post, I dropped my 2002 diesel Bounder 39Z motor home off at Cummins Southern Plains, located at 7045 N. Loop 610 E. Freeway, in Houston. That was The first week of January, 2016, I just got it back after the third attempt. I live on the far west side of Houston, so these round trips are both tedious and costly. Sad that service companies cannot take the time for quality control such that they get things right the first time. As mentioned, they conned me into replacing the engine wiring harness. What they did not explain was that they might end up resetting the electronic control module (ECM), the brains of the outfit. Turns out that happened and that they likely didn't know they would end up resetting it or did not follow the correct procedure. Remember, picked it up on 18 Jan after some $3k in cost with no apparent fix. They replaced the $135 sensor that was acting up, and you-reek-a, that did the trick. What I didn't notice upon pickup on 29 January was that the odometer had reset to 0. That's kind of a big deal as tampering with that is against the law in most states, even among consenting adults. I called and talked with Jamie right after I got home to let him know that the cruise control was intermittently cutting off. I could immediately reset it, but this happened about 5 times on the way home. Over the weekend I took the coach out again to confirm the cruise issue and again it would kick off several times in a 30 minute period. I called and talked with Jaime again on 9 Feb. He said he was sure the cruise issue was not something they caused during the repair. Just another coincidence. Most likely one of the switches near the throttle pedal was failing or something like that. He did say that the odometer reading zero was caused by them resetting the ECM (yea!) and they would get that fixed. Researching the cruise for Cummins, the ECM has some set points (neat names like 'droop' setting) suggesting to me that this could be part of the issue. Took it back in around 16 Feb as the earliest appointment they had was 24 Feb. Sometimes they can squeeze in easy stuff, like resetting the ECM. On 23 Feb, Chris called with a long story about how the odometer gets its signal from the ECM and they can't fix it. He was clear that they did nothing wrong. What? What he could do was pull the ECM, send it to the manufacturer for a reset of the odometer mileage for the low, low cost of $700. He admitted that the next time someone incorrectly reset the ECM I would get to pay that again. So, I thanked him, told him to pack it up and I would just take it home. Meanwhile, I contacted Fleetwood, the coach manufacturer. They were very clear that had the proper procedure been followed, there would be no problem. The proper procedure is to pull all the information from the ECM into a file before messing with it. In the event of a problem, the ECM could be restored *completely* to its prior state. So, the only way this problem could manifest is by the techs incorrectly handling the ECM. And, without the set points, etc., for the cruise, this was likely the issue there as well until that part of the ECM recalibrated itself. So, the final insult was the $368 bill for them to look around a bit, appear sagely puzzled, and tell me that nothing was their fault and everything was fine. Did I say I was done with these guys? Right. It was like a tar baby once I put the coach in there - couldn't let go, kept getting more tar on me. I hope your experience is better than mine. read more

Recently I've made two different visits to Southern Plains to have some warranty repairs done to my RV (on a Spartan chassis). Both times, I've found these guys to be excellent to deal with. The customer service is very friendly, and most importantly, the repairs have been done quickly and correctly. I recommend them. read more

Brought our mh in for lack of power didn't have an app but they plugged us in to elec so we could have ac while we waited everyone was very pleasant and they got us back on the road quickly. Would recommend them read more

I took my RV to a local diesel service repair garage, they quoted me an outrageous $7k to replace my fuel pump, I explained it was probably filters, they said no its the pump.. I then trekked across town to Southern Plains they changed the filters and the problem went away, great company to do business with, I will always use them from here on.. read more
