A Toyota 4 runner is one of the most common and easiest cars to do an oil change . He warned me about the oil filter housing breaking because it's too sturdy , and that he would prob have to replace it with a 30 dollar aluminum . I'll give him an extra star just in the small chance that this isn't an upsell , but speaking to my usual Dealer in Austin , he's very confused by this . I have my doubts . The car is 40,000 miles . Driven very moderately . "This isn't rare enough to call BS outright, but low miles + breakage almost always points to service error" I was okay to spend a little more for given the reviews but this has all sorts of red flags ..wasn't all that quick either . Spent nearly $700 on a brake job that was done so poorly I had to go to another mechanic to redo rotors (had issues after initial visit then returned for second visit to fix... then screeching wheels? I initially went to Firestone for my daughters car, engine needed to be replaced. They would NOT work with the warranty company, extremely overcharging and seemed to know very little. Upon arriving I noticed the entire lobby area was under construction and had a freshly painted smell. The gentleman at the front desk was short and to the point about asking what I was there for. Not rude, but not friendly. My oil was changed fairly quickly (20 minutes or so) and I left. Tbh I'm not going there to be pampered, so I don't fault this place at all. Though on this occasion, with the construction, flat personnel interaction, and lackluster experience, I'm rating 6.9/10. I am writing a review based on an experience I had this past May. Honestly, this is a great place to have your car checked, maintained, and fixed! From the initial phone call to acquire information to the last steps before driving off, James, the owner, has been superb in addressing my needs and concerns with his assurance and extensive knowledge of various car troubles. I had gone in initially to have my front wheels and hubcaps checked. They were very loose and were in danger of falling off. James patiently explained to me the issues involved and gave me a reasonable time period as to when I could expect to pick up my car. Granted, I had approached them in the afternoon and James mentioned they would not be done until early the next morning. I was given a prompt courtesy ride back to my apartment, definitely no complaints there! My only gripe with the whole experience is that the mechanical checkout they perform on every vehicle to determine car issues was only done on the problem area I had mentioned initially. I had expected them to perform a full checkout and notify me of other potential, hazardous problems. If they knew they would not be able to complete a full checkout by the time I expected the car to be fixed, I wished they could have at least first given me a heads up. Otherwise I would have given them the full five stars. Nevertheless, the service as a whole was exceptional! A 10% discount is given when an appointment is made online and their workmanship warranty of 2 years/unlimited miles is the absolute best in the area! I waited for a couple months before writing this review to see how my car held up and everything has been as they were when they finished working on my car! This garage is definitely a must-try for all your car problems and maintenance. I arrived at this location, my first time to request their services for calibrating the equipment in my car. The lobby is closed in response to the Coronavirus, so I wasn't allowed to go inside. An employee is required to remove the device from the car so I was asked to stand around in the parking lot for about 15 minutes while I waited for the handheld unit to be calibrated. For an employee to remove the device, they simply need to reach in the car and manually remove the device, then the employee will ask what the current milage on the car is. The manager, however, got into my car, sat down and started touching every button, the gear shift, the steering wheel and obviously all over the seat. I think, during a pandemic, especially one that forces the lobby to be closed to customers, that employees (especially the manager) should have better sense than to be making so much unnecessary contact in my personal space - it's mutual respect. Especially at a point when Covid cases are increasing in the area, it was way too much contact. So when the manager got out of my car, I grabbed a Clorox wipe and pumped a bunch of hand sanitizer on it and went to town cleaning my car real quick so the alcohol could dry and the  handheld device wouldn't detect any alcohol. Again, the lobby is closed right now, no services, amenities, trashcans, etc. are provided and this business clearly hasn't done anything to adapt to the current environment. Since there was no trashcan, no dumpster, and no lobby access, I decided to drop the Clorox wipe under my car. A technician named Brian came running out and started yelling at me for littering. I calmly asked where the trashcan was so that I could dispose of the wipes, I had already been looking for one... Instead of coming to a resolution and directing me to a trashcan, Brian instead implied that where he worked was trashcan and that I was being disrespectful to him. I didn't really understand what he meant or why he was so angry. I immediately walked over and picked up the wipes, I had them in my hand and again, I asked Brian where the trashcan was so I could throw them away. We had started walking from my car towards the garage, I thought to find a trashcan, but Brian had already flipped his lid at this point and wanted to go full fist over this. Brian called me disrespectful multiple times, then got within inches of my face to call me a "piece of shyt" in attempt to intimidate me. At this point the manager/owner caught wind of this and came into the garage. The manager pointed to where the trashcan was, so I went to throw the wipes away then went to head back to my car. Instead of reprimanding Brian for confronting then escalating a customer conflict, the manager instead grabbed my handheld unit, in the middle of calibration servicing, and refused to finish servicing the equipment for my car. The manager put the device back in my car, while I pretended to call the police, then went back into the lobby. I sat in the parking lot, stranded, for about three minutes trying to get the handheld device to turn back on. At this point, I decided to call the cops for real because I'm now stranded at a car repair facility with a car that the manager broke [when he ended calibration service in the middle of the process] and an wacko employee that has full support of the manager who, in his defense, I don't think really knew what was going on, he was defending his employee - BUT he kicked me out way before knowing that I was attempting to comply with Brian's request and for that, the manager is clearly the ring leader of this circus of ignorance called Prime 1 Car Care. From this point, the only option is to confront the manager and ask "why isn't the handheld working?"  The manager said he was unsure why it wasn't working [probably a lie, he knew he interrupted the calibration] and again refused to service the handheld unit momentarily.  I return to my car calmly, waiting for the cops to arrive, when the manager has an apparent change of heart and comes out, says he'll go ahead and calibrate the device. So he goes off to calibrate it and the cops show up and get statements from everyone.  As soon as the cops show up, Brian starts hollering towards the cops so they can hear him say "This is the guy that littered, he has one of those DUI things" so at this point I realize Brian is treating me so poorly due to an assumed perspective of my character. The police had to accept the criminal trespassing complaint that the manager filed but were dissuaded enough that I received no ticket for littering. read more

I came here on Wednesday around lunch time to get an inspection for my vehicle registration. As soon as I parked, I was greeted outside by one of the mechanics asking what I needed to get done. I told him, showed him my insurance, and he told me I could wait inside. Within ten minutes, I paid and was back in my car. For years I had my go - to Guy when I lived in the galleria but when I moved to Sugarland I had several less than fantastic experiences until I found Prime One. I have taken all my cars here for years for both large and small repairs and I've always been extremely satisfied. For me dentists and auto repair fall into the same category. I hate to go, but when I do, I want to have someone experienced and trustworthy. James is the owner and is always on site. That means a lot to me. You do NOT wanna be driving around the H with inoperable AC. Since the summer months and ungodly hot weather has crept up on us with no rain relief, I'd been rolling around in my ride pretty much AC-less. Passenger side blew semi-cold air and the driver's side blew hot, disgusting humid air. And it was inconsistent at times, never dependable to save me from 100+ degree feeling temps. Ew. Let's just say Prime 1 Car Care definitely saved the day. I'd been driving around like this for 3 months or so. First, my mom without my knowledge took my car to the the Honda dealer to get a diagnostic from them. Yes, I know, big mistake, but she was trying to help me out. The dealer quoted me at $2,200 for all these problems with my AC system and said I needed to replace my condenser that I had all kinds of leaking tubes...the whole nine. I already knew that this was a load of bull. As you know, the dealer ALWAYS marks up on the prices of everything. My bf referred me to James, the owner of Prime 1. On meeting him, he was very friendly, professional, and respectful. He did not have that "oh, here's some chick, she doesn't understand man things, like cars" attitude. He took the time and care to really explain to me all of what was going on with my vehicle, and not in a condescending manner, which is what really stood out to me the most. He quoted me at about half the cost of the dealer to fix my car AND gave me a more accurate diagnostic of what was really going on. From what I can tell so far, the AC is running like it's supposed to. Honda's have one of the coldest blowing AC's of any car out there and after I took it to Prime 1, it's back to where it's supposed to be, cooling me off at 45 degrees. No longer do I have to worry about my face, well, my whole body melting in to a puddle while I drive around H-town. Thanks, Prime 1! read more

Like a good hairdresser, a good auto care place is really hard to find - REALLY sucky and annoying when it's bad... but SUCH a relief when you find The One. Like all the previous reviews said (thanks once again, Yelp!!), the owner James answered all my calls, was at the counter when I walked in, was super friendly, warm, quick, efficient, and a good value. You get a loyalty card - ANY 5 services and you get a free oil change! =) I was in and out in under 30 minutes for my simple oil change - I DID call ahead in the morning and again afternoon when I was about to go in the check their schedule. That's just good sense. I would definitely go back again - it's just the sort of place and owner that you feel you can trust - whereas you AUTOmatically have you guard up at dealerships, etc. PS: The ONLY one star reviewer below is kinda a.. how do you say it... self righteous and non understanding IMHO. I was kind of appalled reading what she wrote. The place had an uncontrollable POWER outage - give the guy a break! She actually says " I'm a paying customer, I shouldn't have to worry about his perspective." Just because you are a paying customer does not mean you deserve princess treatment everywhere you go and get to discount every other human's perspective. The fact he asked her to try to think from his perspective?? Haha. I find that kind of honesty and candidness refreshing and homey, not 'rude'. Anyway. If you prefer to pay a leg and an arm for dealerships to suck up to you while charging you for two times more than what you're getting, go for it. I would suggest that you rent locally from U-Haul or another Penske rental location. This guy, Skaggs, pretty ignorant guy at Prime 1, over-charges me, even though I returned the truck, the same day, in fact, I had it less than 12 hours and he charges me a full 2 days. First got there, it took forever for this white pc. of trash to finally help me. What does he do? He doesn't go out there to check truck, he doesn't place the hand truck in the vehicle, he typed a few keys, which I'm sure is a hard day's work for the guy. In fact, I wouldn't have caught this guy's mistake had I not checked my bank records. SO, DON'T RENT FROM THIS GUY! HE'S A CROOK... Whenever we have car trouble, i take my car to Prime 1. I believe James runs an honest business which is hard to find. I have brought both my vehicles here from brake jobs to a/c issues. I came here to do my car inspection. I recently hit the curb and not knowing my tired was a bit slashed up and I mentioned this to the person at the counter and he said to me that it may fail the inspection. I was the first person there when they opened up and I asked if he could quickly take a look so that I would know if I need to replace the tire before the inspection because I would ultimately have to do the inspection over again. I asked how long it would take and he said I would have to wait at least until after 9:30AM to pick up my car which was quite a long wait considering I was the only one there. He actually told me no he couldn't take a quick look at my car and that the inspector needed to do that and suggested I go over to Firestone on Hwy 6 to have them inspect it and come back. I drove to Firestone and they said thats kinda strange that he would do that, all he needed to do was walk over and take a quick peek which the technician at Firestone did for me and said well we do inspections too. So I did it with them instead no brainer and I got out sooner than I would have here as detailed in my conversation. read more

I walked in right when they just opened for the day and the rude counter guy with poor customer service says it will take almost two hours to do a safety inspection.
