I was seeking a salty snack as we passed through Half Moon Bay. Didn't find any old salty snack...found one of our faves at Cunha's Country Store: The Daily Crave Lentil Chips in aged white cheddar flavor! Yes they were pricier here, but this shop is right in the heart of touristy downtown Half Moon Bay on Main Street, so not unexpected. I wasn't shopping for anything else but did spy an aisle of local jams, beverage fridges, candy, lotto tickets, and much more. Seems to have a little of everything. read more

Great for a stop to get sandwiches before heading to the beach! Got a veggie sando- avocado, lettuce, tomato, Swiss and cheddar cheeses on a fresh Dutch crunch roll. I decided to stop by here on a Tuesday after a grocery/deli in Pescadero was closed. I had a hankering for a really good, mixed meat deli sandwich. I'm sure glad I came here! The deli counter is on the left as you walk in. I decided on the number 8. That one included mortadella, salami and provolone cheese. Their dutch crunch roll was fresh and perfectly paired with it. Upon my first bite, I loved the taste of all the Italian meats blending togrther with the cheese. Delicious! I took it out to eat at Poplar Beach nearby (Right off Hwy 1 or Main St, follow Poplar out to the beach). Even better. They had some assorted salads (potato, pasta or macaroni) for sale also but another time when I will be sharing. I grabbed a lemonade instead. They also sell a variety of Portuguese baked goods. Wow - what happened? The prices have gone way up. A pint of ice cream here is 3 dollars more than at other local groceries. Pretty disappointed. Also, they got rid of a lot of their produce and many things in the freezer section seem to have freezer burn. Nice people, but sad to see the prices becoming unreasonable. Stoped here last minute while walking back to our car for a quick coffee. I ordered the Choco-Banana Mocha in a small iced. Then she gave me the ticket to pack I noticed i was charged for a medium. I asked her if it could be small because I didn't want a lot and she said "iced" is a dollar more that's why there's a price deference. I said ok that's fine. When she handed me my mocha come to my surprise my drink was hardly even cold and no ice. Pictures for reference. It taste ok but definitely wouldn't get coffee here again. Great little store located in Half Moon Bay where you can purchase sandwiches and/or snacks, drinks, etc. Make sure to check in on Yelp for 20% off sandwiches! Cunha's Country Store was open on New Year's Eve, and I called in ahead of time to place my sandwich order. They had a short line for sandwiches when I arrived around noon, so call ahead if you want to avoid waiting. However, there were plenty of items to take a look at in their store if you do have a short wait for your order. They have a lot of different imported candy, chocolates, and chips, and I purchased a few different candy bars to try (prices ranged from $1.99-$2.99/each). Cunha's has the potential to be an amazing grocery store, but it just isn't right now (and hasn't been for the past 6-ish years). I live right around the corner and often I'll need an ingredient or something random, and repeatedly they will either not have it, or have it in stock but it's poor quality or even expired. I'm talking simple things like carrots or a spice or heavy cream. I'm not trying to bash them, I just think that they could be so much better if they had quality produce, a larger array of items in stock, and also pricing that reflects reality (some items are priced too high). Yesterday 9/30 my boyfriend and I came into Cunhas to browse. We found artichoke bread from a bakery that was closed that day, being sold here. We bought two loaves, and decided we were finished shopping checked out. Cashier never talked to us or greeted us, when I tried talking with her she ignored me. Gave my boyfriend and I stank face so I thought "ok whatever, she hates her life or job, she's young. It's rude but it's whatever. cool. Idc, I have my bread and it's my birthday." We pay, leave, come home to Lathrop CA--an hour away and carry one. We're getting ready to make lunch/dinner preparing to bake bread and........it's molded. To be far, we bought two loaves and baked one when we got home but it was already dark and night and we didn't think to check for moldy bread because we shouldn't have to. The only reason we saw this was because it's 3 in the afternoon and sunny and beyond noticeable. I've been coming to half moon bay since I was 10, just turned 40, and literally every time I or my family have come in here, which is rare, the staff is either rude or something is wrong with the food. We only came here because literally every other place we go to was closed. This crap was 9 dollars a loaf. I know for a fact that I'll personally never come back here again. I'll just eat crow if every other place is closed.The food in house isn't good enough and everything else is just liquor. Just an extremely over priced corner store read more

Love this little market! Getting ready to leave HMB and felt like a good sandwich instead of clam chowder this visit. The pastrami is made by them on site as well as their pulled pork and tri tip. We did not try the either but I was inquiring about their sandwiches to figure out which one I wanted. After settling on the Pastrami, the lady being the counter said it was their most popular. I must say I was excitited to try it out. The sandwiches came out in a very reasonable about of time. After taking the first bite of the double meat sammie, I could tell they were made with a lot of love. The Dutch crunch was fresh and flavorful with the perfect amount of mustard layer. Together with the fresh pickles, pepperoncinis, lettuce and the double meat caused an explosion of savory goodness in my mouth. Both my wife and I were very happy with the meal and I had to go back and let the lady know how much I enjoyed it. Great store, great sandwich shop, great coffee and great market. read more

This is a nice little store with quite a bit of shopping variety. You can find authentic Portuguese pastries from Silva bakery here, I especially like the custard tarts and the biscoitos de canela. Those are incredible. Parking can be a little difficult, especially on the weekend, but they've got their own little parking lot next to the store, but it fills up quickly. If you are looking for a memento of your time spent in Half Moon Bay, they've got shirts, cups, hats, and sweaters as well. Inside it gives a feeling of an old town little store where the community would shop. The service is good, and I recommend this place if you're looking to get a snack or even just pick up a souvenir. read more

Love the deli here! They have a regular menu and some daily specials, also a little cafe where they serve açaí bowls. We tried their the bbq brisket and the pulled pork on dutch crunch, sandwiches are about $10 and come as a huge portion. I love their selection of Portuguese food and groceries, especially since I can't always make it down to San Jose. They carry essentials like Portuguese olive oil, cheese, bacalao, cookies, and of course, the famous "Bom" salt and marmalade. Just wish they had an even wider variety to choose from! i come here for one reason, and one reason only....artichoke bread! as soon as i walk in the store, i see a tower of freshly baked bread, shipped straight from arcangeli in pescadero, just sitting on the display table, waiting for me to take them home. i often take 1 but sometimes 2 home, if i cannot decide which one i want! my favourite is the garlic artichoke pesto, the perfect trifecta of savory flavours infused into a loaf of bread. i often get the garlic artichoke so that i can savor just the 'chokes, and sometimes i get the artichoke cheddar if i'm feelin' like cheese. most of these are partially baked so you can take them home and shove in your oven for 10-15 minutes til their more crispy on the outside...or, if you're impatient like me, pay for the bread, grab a table outside and start noshing away! this quaint country store also has a sandwich bar, right in the front, so you can get a sandwich, chips and drink if you like. they also have an assortment of fresh fruit, and lots of snacks, perfect if you're spending the day at the beach nearby! service is always friendly, typical for a smaller city/town and i often see the same folks working here which is kinda nice. they have a dedicated parking lot right next to the store, but it's pretty small so be prepared to park along the street. read more

The kindest staff ever! This store has an excellent selection of Marianne's ice cream and frozen treats. They have a little of everything you could need, from food to essentials. Plus they have special desserts and breads. The best is they were super kind when my toddler broke something in their store. I really loved this corner store. I was incredibly surprised by the selection of items. Fresh cuts of meat, butcher shop, sandwich deli, all type of groceries even some unique items, with fresh fruit options. You could even buy shirts, sweatshirt and liquor. We got the roast beef & Swiss sandwich. They use Boar's Head quality deli meats. The sandwiches come with all of the fixings including lettuce tomatoes pickles and onions. You get to pick your own roll, the Dutch crunch is very tasty and obviously crunchy. It cost $10 and is well worth it. A quick stop by this spot before going on a few walks in the local parks was a brilliant idea. Not only were we able to grab a keepsake shirt and some beers for the trip, we were able to order some amazing pastrami sandwiches that stayed perfect as we hiked a few miles through the redwoods. There was a bunch of "local" honey I wanted to buy - Snyder's Honey, others I don't know if they are really local. Lots of Cunha store-brand jams - sound interesting. They sell Duarte's frozen pies in the freezer section. Artichoke Bread - I saw it, didn't buy. I was heading to HMB this last Saturday after work and planned on grabbing a sandwich and heading to the beach for some chill me time. I was bummed to see that my usual go to sandwich spot down the street closes so early so to yelp I went. I found this little gem of a place and purchased more than I went for because they have allll the things! I ordered a cheese and all the veggies sandwich on a wheat roll and walked around aimlessly. I also purchased mini canned wine (don't judge), and a vegan cookie (yusssss) and that's when my day got a whole lot better. Fast forward to eating the goods and the sando was perfect the bread and veggies were fresh and my cheese was cut straight off the block. No complaints at all here. Also noticed it was a family working not sure if they own it or just work there but they were all friendly and I like supporting small businesses so this place is a win for me! read more

In half Moon Bay for the morning. Needed to grab lunch on our way back over the hill. Stopped at Cunha's to grab a sandwich. Looked like a well stocked grocery store. They had a great selection of sandwiches so I ordered a peppered turkey with pepper jack cheese. Grabbed a Joe's mango lemonade and bag of kettle chips. I was a little disappointed there wasn't more selection when it came to the chips. Was able to get in and out within a couple of minutes. The sandwich was good. The bread was fresh and chewy. The meat was tasty. For a sandwich in the go, Chuna's is a good choice. read more

This is an old general store established very much at the dawn of the last century which now is international gourmet grocery and deli. Parking is for the most part street only as the tiny surface lot next door is both harder then you'd think to get out of and has only six spots. Usually what this means in real terms is that if you can't get a spot right in front, then you'll be down the street a block or so. There is a lot to like here. The deli is highly regarded (tri tip for the win!) and the dry good section is epic. They have a lot of both local and international stuff in stock. They have one of the better selections of European grocery items especially uk type stuff including for reasons that no one understands, marmite. The tinned fish alone pretty much takes up an entire aisle. Well, I say tinned fish. What I mean is pretty much anything that lives in the ocean and can be put in a can-so there are also cans of polpi (octopus) squid, mussels, crab, salmon, mackerel, oysters, milk fish and of all things sea cucumber(pro tip-sea cucumber is not a vegetable). The chocolate section is a wonderland of euro import sugary goodness. There is a lot of local wines, jams, creams, butter, and ice cream on deck. It's not all good news because well, nothing is perfect including (especially) a perfect stranger. There really isn't any fresh fruit/vegetable section to speak of and the store suffers from a lack of organization at times. It can seem cluttered and less clean then you'd like especially the farther in you get. You might consider checking the code dates on whatever you purchase. Overall however, this is a good verging on great spot to get any local/imported/gourmet oddities that can be hard to find or a super awesome sandwich. read more

Located on a corner in tiny but charming downtown Half Moon Bay, Cunha Country Grocery is well suited to its whereabouts. Main Street HMB can draw a respectable amount of tourist foot traffic (like myself) on a nice, sunny day. Offering a collection of uncommon goods ranging from the kitschy to the intriguing, this store is well stocked for the out-of-towner. Ground floor is the grocery & upstairs is the "Emporium." The girlfriend & I stopped in for something cold to drink after miles of scenic strolling in HMB on a hot Saturday afternoon. The cooler section had a wide & appealing variety of beverages that could fulfill this purpose. With drinks in hand waiting to checkout, I noticed yet one more item of interest that the girlfriend would appreciate. She loves cats. She loves black cats. There was a bottle of Riesling the shape & color of a black cat. Had to get it, so I got it. With the hydration situation resolved, I wanted to go upstairs to check out the Emporium. The Emporium is like the modern interpretation of the durable goods section of a general store plus a big room filled with wines. Cunha Country Grocery is 2 floors filled with interesting knickknacks & other useful goods. For anyone roaming about downtown Half Moon Bay on a beautiful day, Cunha Country Grocery is worth a look. read more

I'm sad to say the owners and/or operators need to take a fresh look at their store...many half empty shelves with seemingly older merchandise not replenished by owners or vendors so check the dates. They either didn't have the veg I needed or it was wilted. I know how hard it can be to get a small grocery back once it is gone so I hope this one can be saved. read more
