From gourmet instant pastas and fresh cinnamon breads to Strauss milk, ice cream, and other delicious treats, there's always something great to discover. This is a small market located in El Granada. It is an absolute gem, the quality of what they stock is very high. we really needed some provisions and we were at the beach. we made a run for this place cuz it was close and had good reviews. The sandwich was really awesome and feeling in this key lime pie right here with the right call. The only thing is that it does take a little bit of time to get your sandwich. And they didn't get the full start because I paid for something extra on one of the sandwiches and they forgot it, but by the time I realized it we were at the beach. Spangler has a very good meat market. They have a lot of gourmet items. Their produce is adequate, but they do things like have Mexican asparagus when California asparagus is available and vastly superior.. I think they need a produce person who strives for excellence. Then I wouldn't have to go to bi- rite in San Francisco for produce or to the farmers market. However, the space used to be like a 711 run by an Indian family that was depressing to go to. Spangler's makes it possible not to have to drive 6 miles to half Moon Bay to go to New Leaf. So I'm very grateful for their presence and only hope that they get even better over the years. read more

super small but well stocked neighborhood market -- they use every inch of the space in a smart way. Blink twice and you'll miss the mini pharmacy/hygiene section in the back! I keep seeing a wide array of fresh produce but I haven't checked it out much yet since I always only stop in for drinks and sandwiches/snacks. Tons of healthy and/or organic beverages, nice chocolates and desserts, meats, snacks, and pantry items.. and they have a massive deli counter with delicious looking sides, antipasto, cheeses, seafood/meat (smaller and gourmet cheeses across the section)! And lest I forgot.. 1/4 of the store is full of wine while the other 1/4 is full of hard liquor -- basically anything you could want. Build your own sandwich or choose from one of many options on the board. Seems like they often switch up the hot offerings in the other veeery far right deli counter window. Looooove that they offer a tofu banh mi on the menu alongside the classic pork version. I've had it like 5 times now, each as amazing as the last. Have also gotten the tuna avocado roll + spicy tuna roll + vegetable roll and am almost shocked at how good they are. honorable mentions to the mac and cheese & the scalloped potatoes. There is something fun to discover around every corner here, and is the peeerfect place to stop by to grab some stuff for a beach picnic. They have super yummy sandwiches at the deli inside the market. If you're ordering sandwiches, grab a sandwich order form and circle what you want and hand it to them at the counter. Good place to order sandwiches, a few grab and go sides as well as drinks. It's my one stop shop to grab an entire picnic when we decide to go on an impromptu trip to the beach. I've been going to this Market when they were in the strip mall on Highway One and 92. They have since moved to their current place on Highway one (Cabrillo highway), I think it's been more that three year now. The sandwiches and to go items have been consistently good. The bread is so fresh, light and airy on the inside and perfect crispness on the outside. They have many bread options, as well as the deli meats which are always tasty and fresh. We usually order the tuna fish, pastrami or veggie sandwiches. I'm always impressed with how neatly they pack and label the sandwiches and the staff is friendly and helpful. I've ordered our meals via Uber Eats on occasion when I've been enjoying the beach too much to get off my butt. And they didn't disappoint then either, the sandwiches were spot on and again neatly packaged! Thank you!! read more

Tried to do an update, but I don't think Yelp carried my previous comments forward. This is our go-to market, but I wanted to update something for a while. One of the things that makes Spanglers great is the homemade soup station. They always have AMAZING soups. But...they set the station up all wrong, which is the purpose of this update. If you get soups...and you should...be careful. They do NOT leave enough space between the pots of soup and the top of the next higher shelf. Because the use long ladles, you can't actually pull a full ladle of soup out and put it in their tubs. Well, you can, you'll just get soup everywhere. I've recommended they move the tubs below to the empty racks below, but they just don't seem interested. I guess they like cleaning it up all the time. read more

Went to meet up with friends at OceanCiders and wanted to fill up with a solid dinner beforehand, so hubby and I took a nice little walk to Spangler's after some doing some research for good eats nearby. It was a quick 5-minute walk from the lot where we parked. The market was cute, clean, and stocked with loads of goods. The deli counter is in the back left area of the store. The guy at the counter took our order and the sandwiches were ready relatively quickly. During that relatively short wait, I grabbed a bag of chips and some seltzer water. I ordered a Prosciutto and mozzarella on sourdough. Sounded amazing. When I settled down in front of the fire pit at OceanCiders and cracked open my sandwich, I discovered that it was as amazing as it sounded. The sandwich was loaded with prosciutto and the mozzarella was legit, thick-cut slices. Extra napkins would have been nice because the sandwich got a bit drippy from whatever sauce was on it. We LOVE visiting this cute, amply stocked little gem when we are visiting HMB! We discovered it three years ago on our stay and actually visited this store a couple times for goodies during our hotel stay and took some unique food items home I've never seen! This store has a beautiful meat and produce area, plus it's the place to go for all types of beverages--water, beer, wine, kombucha, craft and regular sodas. It's a great place to pick up supplies for a picnic lunch by the Bay---gourmet cheeses, cured meats, and bread, plus a plethora of crackers and munchies! Their deli is stocked with delicious in house made salads--pasta salads, etc, and their deli sandwiches are very good, fresh, and a great buy at $10! Oh, and they have a great selection of desserts and ice cream...they also offer a delish brand of California local ice cream made in Santa Cruz called "Marianne's" that's a pretty good deal for what it is and the flavors are so hard to chose from!!! I took a drive down the coast today and stopped off to grab lunch here based on the sandwich reviews. I found marketing quickly in the small parking lot and quickly figured the lay of the land. I grabbed some eggs and a drink and then found my way to the deli counter for lunch. I got the standard prosciutto mozzarella sandwich. I'm a sucker for anything prosciutto and this sandwich was one of the best I've had of the type. What makes it different and that I loved is the creamy sauce instead of the usual oil and vinegar. I live in SF but I'll have to start finding reasons to come back. read more

Ok! I know most of reviews are 4-5 stars but I like positive reviews. Great places are meant to be shouted out at the top our lungs! Spangler's is no exception. This community market is by far one of the most thought out, well planned and remarkably staffed grocery stores on the coast. A gem for El Granada but ALL of HMB is lucky to have a place like this in town. From the deli, to the butchers, the cashiers and the stocking staff, EVERYONE is pleasant to talk to and be helped by. Dan and his team are Grade A quality, just like the groceries they sell in this shop. I've had numerous encounters with all kinds of inquiries and every time I'm never disappointed. That's also because I go into it knowing the situational circumstances too. If this team can't do something for you they provide you with an option. This is what I like the most about all of it. Ive asked them to shave meat for hot pots, inquire about certain household items and they even came through with a last minute coleslaw order for my work potluck! All of it with a smiling face. The store also has ingredients and items you wouldn't think a little shop would have too. I've been able to pop in for fish sauce, tamari and even oyster sauce! Another great thing is the local sourcing they provide on so many of their produce, fish and bakery items. This is a major plus. Did you know? They bake some of their own pies too?! I've been coming to Spanglers since I moved to Montara (a small town near El Granada). I was having a tough time finding any quality meats and fish and was so happy to find this little grocery store. The guys at the meat counter are super helpful and friendly. Tip: they will trim or get you any cut of meat you might be looking for. Both meat and fish have been superb and it makes it hard to justify eating out. The prepared food section is also very good with the lasagna being a go to. I am taking away a star because of the somewhat awkward checkers. After buying my groceries I said "thanks" and the checker replied "you're good". This has happened on almost every time I am there. I find it weird that they make me feel like I am doing them a favor. It is quite a contrast to the meat counter where the guys are super friendly. Anyways, I can recommend! EDIT/UPDATE Since I last posted this review I have been back a few times. As per usual the meat and fish are fantastic but also the checkers seem much more friendly. Added a star back! This market is the real deal. If you're a local, the owners will take time to get to know you and only provide top-notch high-quality food. Whether it's their amazing produce section or their deli, you are guaranteed the best of the best in the area. In particular, if you ever need a quick meal with good restaurant-style food to go, you can always stop by their hot bar ( which is clean and behind glass ) I stand by this statement, but I THINK THEIR ROAST CHICKEN MAY BE SOME OF THE BEST I HAVE EVER EATEN! Tasty sandwiches that use quality ingredients. My Chicken BLT on rye was excellent and used applewood smoked bacon long with the best of veggies for a satisfying experience. Selections of fresh baked goods made daily at their sister business The Press. A nice sized meat counter with quality second to none in the area. A great selection of dairy, fruits, veggies, dry, and canned goods of excellent quality and variety. Other things for sale perfect for both the tourist and the local on the beach and in the home. Obviously a Spangler's Market being a new store has some things to improve on their grand opening day. But this one has been as good and any in recent memory. read more
